Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Got His Oscar — Too Bad No One Tuned In To See It

Categories: celebrities

Last night was Hollywood’s biggest celebration of films and their actors, and it was a monumental night. I mean, I’m guessing it was — I didn’t actually see it. Instead, I was watching the Tina Fey & Amy Poehler movie Sisters, which was way better than I expected and had me LOLing throughout. Apparently all I missed on the Oscars was a bunch of white people winning awards, Sam Smith making an ass of himself (more on that later), and Leonardo DiCaprio finally getting that beloved gold statue. Turns out, I wasn’t actually alone in avoiding all things Academy Awards last night — the 2016 Oscars had the lowest ratings in eight years.

From CNN:

The show drew a 23.4 overnight rating on Sunday night, according to ABC.

The ratings for the three and a half hour broadcast was down 5% from last year’s 24.6 overnight rating and would give the awards its lowest overnight rating in eight years.

It should be noted that overnight ratings can be inaccurate in terms of measuring viewership and more detailed numbers including viewership will be released later on Monday.

The low overnight ratings are surprising seeing that this year’s Oscars were one of the most talked about awards in recent years. This was due to backlash and protests over the Academy’s lack of diverse nominees.

The Oscars are boring as shit, just like every other mainstream awards show. You can bring in whatever host you’d like, have any comedians make dumb joke you’d like, and it’s still going to be boring. That’s just the nature of the beast. Sure, we want to see what everyone wears on the red carpet and who gets to take home those gold statues, but I’d rather just read about it afterwards than have to sit through three insufferable hours.

I am pretty stoked for Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander, though.

Tom Hiddleston will pee on you in a heartbeat if you get stung by a jellyfish

Tom Hollander is best known – by me – for playing Mr. Collins in the Keira Knightley version of Pride & Prejudice. He also has a part in The Night Manager, starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie. They filmed TNM all over Europe and the Middle East, and the cast seemed to have a rare day off while they were filming in Mallorca. So they all went swimming together. And Hollander got stung by some jellyfish. And that’s when the story gets really interesting. You see, Tom Hiddleston is a good friend. He will pee on you in a heartbeat, that’s how lovely he is.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Tom Hollander – who also appears in ITV drama Doctor Thorne – said the incident happened in Mallorca while the whole cast were hanging out. He recalled: “Here I was sitting by the seaside with Hugh Laurie who is one of the most entertaining people you’ll ever meet in your life and Olivia Colman, Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Debicki…

“The jellyfish incident was a sad tale because otherwise it was paradise until we went swimming and I, because I’m a gentlemen, lent Elizabeth Debicki my goggles which I’d brought to Mallorca because I knew about the jellyfish problem but she didn’t have any so she wore them and I swam into all the jellyfish. And I don’t know if you’ve ever been stung but it’s really, really painful. Guess who peed on me? Tom Hiddleston, he saw this, he is heroic and sort of Bond like. He’s officer class, he’s someone you want to stand next to as you go over the top in the First World War. Out of the corner of my eye someone with sharp strokes cutting through the water, Hiddleston had seen I was in trouble, he came out to me, I was standing on a rock submerged in just a few feet of water and he said, ‘It’s alright. Stand back, I know what to do’. And he said, ‘Where is it?’ I said ‘It’s all warm now.’ Tom had done what he needed to do which was to p**s all over me. And I’m sorry to say, it doesn’t actually work.”

[From The Express]

I’ve always thought that the urine-on-a-jellyfish-sting was true, but I looked it up and apparently there’s no scientific basis for it. In fact, urinating on a jellyfish sting can actually make the sting/pain worse. Which I didn’t know before now. Hiddles didn’t know either, which is why he peed on a friend. Poor Hollander! Not only did he get stung by a jellyfish, he’s now going to be stalked by Dragonflies because he’s been marked/sprayed by Lord Dragonfly.

Jessica Chastain in Elie Saab at the Spirit Awards: pretty or ill-fitting?

The 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards in LA
Jessica Chastain presented Best Male Lead at last night’s Spirit Awards (that went to Abraham Attah of Beasts of No Nation!) and she’s actually the “honorary chair of film independent.” I googled it because I do research like that, and I still don’t know what it means exactly. She’s been nominated twice before but hasn’t won, so maybe that’s why they wanted to recognize her. Chastain hasn’t won an Oscar yet either, and I feel like that she’ll get one in the next few years. I really hope so.

You can see a complete list of winners here and YouTube has clips from the ceremony.

Anyway Chastain wore this purple lace Elie Saab gown which highlights the issue she’s had on so many red carpets past – her boobs aren’t supported. You may think I’m joking, but I’m really not. It’s an otherwise very pretty dress and I like the color. Plus her styling is gorgeous. I want to do my hair like that now.

Marisa Tomei was in this twee white and floral embroidered Stella McCartney gown. It’s the Spirit Awards and this could have been a great dress if it was tailored for her properly but it just hangs there like a sack. I do like the idea of the dress though.

Juno Temple (Far from the Madding Crowd, Black Mass) was in Valentino which is SO overworked for the Spirit Awards. Tone it down a notch lady. Something nice: her hair is awesome and her makeup is super cute. I had hair like this in the 90s and I like that it’s making a comeback. Also, the birds on the bodice are cool. With a shorter, plainer skirt this might have worked. This did not need the blue lace on the skirt or down the sleeves.

Nikki Reed was in an Etro gown which I can’t decide if I like. The front looks like a bib or apron. I really like the contemporary detailing around the bust but it looks weird paired with that kind of 70s baroque print. It’s like two different personalities crammed together in one dress. Her styling is gorgeous though.

Lauren Cohan is giving me #abgoals in this Alice & Olivia white wrap crop top paired with high waisted blush colored Eloise pants. I’m just not feeling this look, it’s another case of two things which do not go together. She brightens it up with her expression though. Just try to imagine Rooney Mara in this. This makes me bummed that I have to wait to watch Walking Dead until after we’re done with Oscar coverage Monday. There are worse things than having to wait an extra day to watch a show you get to talk about for your job.

Jessica Biel in Roland Mouret at the Spirit Awards: fabulous or fug?

wenn23563753

The Independent Spirit Awards are usually pretty loose and come-as-you-are, which means you usually don’t get Fashion Girls just showing up for the hell of it. Like, that’s what the Vanity Fair Oscar party is for. So I’m not entirely sure why Jessica Biel came out for the Spirits – she presented, but was she even IN a film in 2015? Let me check… yeah, she was, but no one saw her sad 2015 films. Still, Biel came out and she tried to “win” the fashion show in this Roland Mouret dress. If I’m being honest, I kind of like this. I love the colors, and I love the low-key vibe. I just want to rework it a little bit. The skirt should be longer and the top part needs to be a touch tighter, and she shouldn’t have tried to match her eye makeup to the dress. Also, check out her shoes!

Rachel McAdams in Solace. God, I want her to look amazing at the Oscars. While this, to me, doesn’t make it up to “amazing” status, it’s pretty good. I like that she went for something slightly different, and this is the most I’ve ever like this shade of pumpkin. I kind of think the dress would have been even better if the whole thing was that shade of cream though.

Bel Powley in Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2016. I like this, I just wish it was fully lined. Right? I have a strange affection for laser-cut leather, but this needed a built-in nude slip.

Idris Elba. G—damn this man can wear a suit.

Aaron Carter Endorses Donald Trump, Goes on Insane Rant

Aaron Carter just pulled a Kanye West.

Only instead of telling white critics to stop listening to his music, the singer went on a bizarre Twitter rant that highlighted his support for Donald Trump.

“Does America want to have a president who FOLLOWS or someone who leads?” Carter asked on social media. “I vote [email protected]

Okay, fair enough we guess.

Based on various polls and primary results, Carter is not the only person who feels this way.

But after followers voiced their displeasure with his view, Carter proceeded to really jump off the deep end.

“People look for anything and any chance they can to hate me for something it’s always SOMETHING I fight back and for myself not changing,” he wrote, later adding:

“Just looking at these comment from trolls in my mentions just PROVES how immature our country has become. GROW UP in more ways than 1 thx.”

We’ll refrain from pointing out the irony in saying the country is immature… while simultaneously saying you support a name-caller such as Donald Trump for President.

Carter did say that he doesn’t agree with Trump’s stances on gay marriage or immigration, but “70%” of him is on Trump’s side, so this is the message he has for haters:

“F-CK OFF.”

When things finally escalated beyond a point where Twitter was suffient, Carter went on Periscope to speak his mind in an expletive-laden video.

“People want to call me this and that, and this and that,” he ranted.

“And they want to hate and do this and that, but guess what, bam, bam, bam!” said Carter, punching towards the camera. “I’m gonna fucking fight back, motherf-cker.”

Concluded the artist:

“Bam, bam, bam! One, two, three. The third one’s gonna knock you out. Don’t f-ck with me.”

We’re just gonna back away slowly now and say that Carter definitely sounds like the the type of person who would vote for Donald Trump.

Caitlyn Jenner Releases Own Brand of Lipstick… For a Good Cause!

Move over, Kylie Jenner.

You are no longer the only member of your family with her very own lip-related product.

Caitlyn Jenner has reined with MAC cosmetics to create a lipstick that celebrates her transition.

It is titled “Finally Free” and the I Am Cait star is posing in the first print ad for the product above.

As you can see here, the 65-year old transgender icon is donning a tight, gold dress while lying back and letting stylists make a few adjustments to her hair and her ensemble.

But this is what you really need to know about the rosy lipstick:

ALL proceeds will benefit the MAC AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative.

“MAC was the first to come to me [after my transition], and a company, I realized, would really make a big commitment,” Jenner said in an interview with MAC Culture.

“I knew the VIVA GLAM campaigns; I saw that the proceeds were going, in those cases, mainly to AIDS and HIV causes, and I was wondering if they were interested in doing something specifically geared toward trans issues, because we need funding.”

The lipstick retails for $17 per package.

“MAC is a global company,” Caitlyn adds. “It’s in places around the world where not just trans issues but women’s issues are a major subject that you have to talk about.”

The MAC Finally Free lipstick, whose shade and name Jenner helped select, will be available exclusively online starting April 7.

‘My ultimate fantasy – I never thought in a million years that it would ever happen – was to get involved with a makeup company,” Caitlyn says.

“When you’re going through all of this, that’s just, like, never going to happen, but wouldn’t it be something to be involved in a project like that? Boy, watch out what you wish for, because it came true.”

Kesha Records New Song To Thank Fans For Support

Categories: celebrities

Kesha may be banned from selling any new music that’s not on Dr. Luke’s Sony Music imprint, but that doesn’t mean she can’t write and record new music and give it away for free. Why not? She’s been getting so much support from her fellow celebrities and fans alike, so to say a big thank you for their well-wishes, Kesha recorded a song and released it online. Well, at least her lawyer, Mark Geragos released a 27 second clip of it, anyway.

“A special thanks to everyone who has had her back,” he wrote, with the hashtag #animals (which is what Kesha’s fans are called). The song itself isn’t anything overly deep, but it’s effective, with Kesha singing over and over again, “Oh I don’t know what I would do without you, oh no…”

Let’s give it a bit of a listen, eh?

I seriously hope Kesha somehow finds some resolve to this soon. The same thing of being locked into a fucked up contract happened to JoJo, but she finally managed to get out. Only this is even worse, because Kesha is being forced to work with her alleged rapist. Hopefully she can stay strong and find some legal loophole to give her her freedom back (not that she should need a loophole, but such is the way of the world these days).
