Prince’s estate demands Trump stop playing Purple rain at rallies

What in the WORLD could the Trump administration be thinking by playing ‘Purple Rain’ at their rallies? I mean what message is in that song that they think works in that situation?

Regardless, a Tweet from the late music legend’s estate says it’s happening.  And they ain’t down with it.

“President Trump played Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ tonight at a campaign event in Minneapolis despite confirming a year ago that the campaign would not use Prince’s music,” the statement read.

The tweet included an October 2018 letter from Trump lawyer Jones Day that said the campaign would not use Prince’s music art any future events. That letter was in response to an initial claim from the Prince estate about one year ago that asked them not to play the song.

The estate made clear that the legendary singer-songwriter would not want his art used in a campaign event.

“The Prince Estate will never give permission to President Trump to use Prince’s songs,” the tweet read.

Will Smith geeks out hard over Bill Gates’ office decor

I will say I can’t blame him. What you’re looking at above is a giant wall-mounted periodic table with samples or representations of all the elements.  I mean he can’t have Uranium on display.

So enter Will Smith who dropped in to visit the software genius and fell in love with the magnificent wall and told him straight out “I might be stealin’ that. In old school hip hop they call it biting.” lol. Ok nerds.  I’m kidding. I would looooove this thing in my home.

Check out the fun video of the visit he posted to his gram…

Jay Z investing in compostable phone cases

Jay Z investing in compostable phone cases

This is pretty interesting.  We all know they trash is constant. I mean I complain constantly that every time I buy something I get twice as much packaging as I do product.  But then there’s the product itself and how often you replace that product.  I go through cell phone cases pretty regularly because they tend to be an inexpensive way to express myself.  So having those cases not contribute to the deluge of garbage we leave behind is a comfort.

Enter Hova. Jay Z has invested in Pela.  A cell phone and sunglasses company that makes products that will breakdown over time when thrown away.  The problem is, currently, the designs are… undesigned. They’re essentially just solid color cases. And at an average of $40 a piece, they’re not making it easy on us to join in.

But if eco friendly products by millionaire hip hop artist are what gets you going, Pela is your jam. I love the slogan: “There is no Planet B”.

MSNBC News woman’s report crashed by her own son

This is so adorable.  NBC News correspondent Courtney Kube was doing a live broadcast Wednesday morning when she got an on-air interview she wasn’t planning on.  Her son Ryan!

Kube, who covers national security and the Pentagon, was discussing Turkey’s incursion into Syria from the NBC News studios in Washington, D.C. when her 4-year-old son mosied on to the live set and tried to get his mommy’s attention.

The boy didn’t seem to care mommy was in the middle of covering important news and the producer was forced to jump to footage of Turkey while they retrieved the toddler.

Diahann Carroll dies at age 84

Diahann Carroll dies at age 84

I used to want to be Diahann Carroll.  She’s much older than me, but she was so dignified and refined. Not to mention beautiful.  I would have this recurring dream that she was my neighbor and on Sundays we’d get together and play Gin.

Carroll’s daughter, Susan Kay, confirmed her mother died on Friday in Los Angeles of cancer.

During her long career, Carroll earned a Tony Award for the musical ‘No Strings’ and an Academy Award nomination for ‘Claudine.’

But she was perhaps best known for her pioneering work on ‘Julia.’ Carroll played Julia Baker, a nurse whose husband had been killed in Vietnam, in the groundbreaking situation comedy that aired from 1968 to 1971.

Although she was not the first black woman to star in her own TV show (Ethel Waters played a maid in the 1950s series ‘Beulah’), she was the first to star as someone other than a servant.

In the 1980s, she appeared in the long-running prime-time soap opera ‘Dynasty’ for three years. More recently, she had a number of guest shots and small roles in TV series, including playing the mother of Isaiah Washington’s character, Dr. Preston Burke, on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’

Chip and Joanna Gaines announce their newest project

Everyone’s favorite reno team is at it again. Chip and Joanna Gaines seem to take on bigger and bigger projects every time I turn around.  This time it’s a hotel!

The made the announcement in a new video on their website today that they’ve partnered with AJ Capital on their first-ever hotel, which will be just a few blocks away from their Magnolia Market at the Silos.

Chip, 44, and Joanna, 41, excited shared the news with fans, and offered a sneak peak at what the space will look like.

“We are excited, we finally get to share some news with you,” Joanna says in the clip.

‘Y’all, we’re gonna have a hotel in downtown Waco, Texas,’ Chip says.  “We are ready to get started on this iconic building downtown a few blocks away from the Silos,” adds Joanna.

The couple is making over the historic Grand Karem Shrine, a three-story, 53,000-square-foot space built in 1928.  According to Architectural Digest, much of the structure remains unchanged, and it still features decorative symbols of Freemasons and Shriners.

You can see in the entryway that the Freemason mosaic is still intact.

It’s Mean Girls Day and Mean Meme’s Rock

October 3rd, Mean Girls day. The day Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron what the date was.  It’s… kind of a big deal.

So I love when two of my favorite things (Art and Mean Girls) collide to make a wonderful set of memes to celebrate this important day.

Thank you to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for their fun work.
