Rick Astley never gave us up – and tops the British charts once again

In “What year is this?” news, Rick Astley has a number one album – in his home country of England. The singer, now 50, just hit the charts with his comeback album, titled 50. Well, naming your album after your current age worked for Adele. Apparently, this tactic also proved successful for Rick. You young whippersnappers may only know Rick from the internet phenomenon known as “Rickrolling,” where pranksters would tempt you to click a link only to be taken to a video for Rick’s 1987 hit “Never Gonna Give You Up” (still a damn catchy tune if you ask me). The prank garnered Rick over 70 million views of the song’s video on YouTube and led to a surprise appearance at the 2008 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. England’s Telegraph complied some fun facts about Rick that are worth a read. He was kind of a big deal. The singer retired in 1993 to raise his daughter and now, 23 years later, Rick is back with a vengeance. The new album beat out Paul McCartney and popular British singer Tom Odell to take the top spot. The first single off of the album, “Keep Singing”, shows off Rick’s still soulful pipes, and the singer still has the youthful looks he rocked back in the 80s. Yes, I admit, I fangirled out a little when I saw this video. He’s still a cutie. Rick, who thought the whole Rickrolling thing was “hilarious” is slightly surprised about the success of his comeback album. He recently told the Daily Mail, “It’s all a bit bonkers. I am not allowing myself to believe that it is all happening. This time last year, I would have laughed at the thought of being number one again. And I almost didn’t care whether it hit the top or not. Because it is just fantastic to be here.” Sadly, we US Rick fans will have to wait until October 7th to download the album, which is available for pre-order on iTunes. I think it’s awesome that Rick is back. I always thought he was a great singer. I do like “You Move Me” better than “Give You Up,” but he was part of the soundtrack of my college years and I’m glad to see him again. With 80s classics like Ghostbusters coming back to the big screen – along with rumored remakes of Overboard, War Games and Police Academy, it’s kind of inevitable that we’re ready to welcome some of the decade’s more memorable voices back to the airwaves (or streaming services – I’m not that old). Kendall Jenner thinks Stephanie Seymour ‘publicly shamed’ her with a mild insult

As we discussed earlier this week, Stephanie Seymour kind-of sort-of threw a little shade on the current crop of Insta-models, meaning Kendall Jenners and Gigi Hadids of the world, the ones who get jobs because of nepotism and social media. Personally, I agreed with what Stephanie had to say – she just pointed out that in her era, the 1980s, supermodels were the real deal. She said Kendall and Gigi “are completely different than we were. Supermodels are sort of the thing of the past. They deserve their own title. [Kendall and Gigi] are beautiful girls, and I support all of them, but they need their own title.” As in, don’t call them “supermodels,” which I agree with. Then Stephanie was asked what their new title should be and jokingly said “bitches of the moment.” Well, you can guess what happened next. Kendall Jenner got her panties in a wad! Kendall wrote about it on her kendallj.com site: “Gigi sent me the most recent rant and I’m disappointed. If you’re going to tell us not to be in ‘your moment,’ then don’t be in mine! No one is trying to steal Stephanie Seymour’s thing, or trying to be her. I actually looked up to her. She has a daughter! I guarantee you that she didn’t imagine someone so publicly shaming her daughter when she made those comments about us being ‘bitches of the moment.’” “Being a ‘supermodel’ is a relative term. If people want to call Gigi and I supermodels now, it doesn’t take anything away from supermodels of the past. Obviously, I have so much respect for those women, but right now, we’re the models of this time. Significant? Maybe. Hardworking? For sure.” “When I’m older, I’m going to be so nice to anyone who’s trying to do the same thing as me. There are other supermodels who give me tips and build up my confidence, sending me notes after a spread comes out, saying, ‘You’re killing it.’ That’s the classy way to behave and I fully intend on being a positive influence on anyone younger than me, my entire life.” [From Us Weekly] “Publicly shaming”??? Stephanie made a quip and maybe it could be taken as an insult, but it’s not SHAMING. I also disagree with Kendall about how calling the Instamodels “supermodels” doesn’t take away from the past. It really, really does. Maybe Kendall and Gigi will have 15-year careers and they’ll be on every cover, etc, and then we’ll be able to say “Yeah, they were great and they were definitely supermodels.” But right now, looking at their meager careers, they should not be called supermodels because they just haven’t put in the work. And if Kendall really is going to try to build that kind of career, she needs to learn to shrug it off when there’s one person who isn’t kissing her ass. Kendall and Gigi should have just let Stephanie say her piece and left it at that. We can argue about whether Stephanie meant to be petty – I don’t think she was, really – but can we all agree that Kendall has been infected with Special Snowflake Syndrome? 13 Summer Shows That Will Keep You Nice and Pale

The weather is heating up. The sun may be shining wherever you live. And the beach is likely calling your name. But summer is no longer a slow period in the world of television. The following TV shows are either debuting or returning over the next several weeks and we won't judge you if you close your curtains and settle on to your sofa when they do… 1. Orange is the New Black The fourth season of this Netflix favorite starts streaming on June 17. So at least you can finish it all in one weekend and be free in time for July 4! 2. Pretty Little Liars Not only is it coming back on June 21, but it’s coming back for what may be its final season. You do not want to miss any of the major reveals. 3. American Gothic This 13-part murder mystery limited event kicks off on CBS on June 22. We are so in. 4. Roadies The first TV show from Cameron Crowe premieres on Showtime on June 26. 5. Match Game A reprisal of this iconic game show would be exciting enough. But it will be hosted by Alec Baldwi! Interesting. It also premieres on June 26. 6. Olivia Wilde on ‘Vinyl’ fashion: ‘People in the ’70s apparently didn’t have hips’

The last time we talked about Olivia Wilde she was discussing the merkin (pubic wig) which she has to wear for nude scenes on her HBO show, Vinyl, set in the 1970s. I was surprised at how many of you had strong feelings about that issue, particularly Olivia’s embarrassment at having a hirsute nether region, even temporarily. I don’t think she was saying that hair down there is hideous, just that she prefers more grooming in that area. To each their own. Some people like their hair long, some like it short. Now Olivia is discussing the fashion on Vinyl, specifically the real vintage clothing they wear. She’s representing H&M’s conscious collection, so that’s part of the reason she’s talking about this issue as well. “I’ll walk around with the wardrobe assistant saying, ‘I want that one, I want that one.’ I really have been so inspired by all the wardrobe across the board,” Wilde told PeopleStyle at the H&M Conscious Exclusive 2016 Collection event in N.Y.C., adding that not all looks work on her: “I can’t fit into any of the pants because people in the ’70s apparently just didn’t have hips. I guess that’s all the hormones in our food, but I don’t understand it. You pick up the jeans and they’re straight — there’s no butt and there’s no hips. They’re for a straight body.” The actress added that there’s also a 2016 pants trend she has trouble pulling off: Boyfriend jeans. “I try to wear the trend, but it always looks terrible, because I have really short legs,” she shared. “Almost everything we wear on the show is real vintage. And that’s a lot of effort on the part of our designer and on the part of the team,” she shared. “We have a whole kind of workshop to take real vintage items and fix them — because when you buy vintage you sometimes have to do a little bit of tailoring and cleaning. We should just be buying things that already exist as oppose to trying to mass produce everything new. Plus, it’s fun to buy things that have a story so that you can say this is a vintage Halston, a piece that has been around.” Wilde has also been going to vintage shops since she was 12, so she’s now a pro at repairing old clothes. “Now I know what to look for and know what to do when I see something that’s messed up. You can buy it, take it to a seamstress and it’s not that expensive fix it, clean it,” she shared. “It’s much cooler to have something that has history than to just buy something new.” Her passion for recycling old clothes makes her the perfect person to partner with H&M on its latest Conscious collection, hitting stores Thursday. Wilde starred in the campaign last year, and this year she’s continuing to spread the brand’s message of eco-friendly fashion. “We think that we’re going to sacrifice style in order to be sustainable, and that’s not true as this collection proves,” Wilde said. “That’s what I love about what H&M’s done this year and last year. They are really good at showing that you can wear a piece that doesn’t necessarily scream sustainability, but just happens to be taking advantage of this new innovation that they’re investing in. I think they’re very smart about the whole process and pioneers within this movement, which I didn’t necessarily know before. I think I connected H&M with my idea of what fast fashion meant to the world. I didn’t realize how much work they were putting in to changing that.” [From People] While it’s true that people in the 70s were smaller than they are now, I think that saying that they didn’t have hips is like saying women in the 50s had pointy boobs. Straight legs were just the style. Plus when you’re talking about vintage fashion, the stuff that’s left is whatever people haven’t bought yet so of course it’s the outlier sizes. I haven’t watched this show yet but I have to say that I love the vintage fashion on The Americans especially. It’s set in the early 80s and their coat p0rn is amazing. I recently read a book by a costume designer for television called How to Get Dressed. The author, Alison Freer, says that fit is key to looking polished, not following trends. She emphasizes tailoring, which is exactly what Wilde is saying here about shopping second hand. You can really see the work that goes into the clothing on television and that book gave me a newfound appreciation for thrift shopping. Rihanna wears shorts, Miu Miu fur to Black Girls Rock: ridiculous or amazing?

For six years now, BET has been doing an event called Black Girls Rock! It’s about promoting positivity with African-American women and black women and showing young women of color that there are some amazing role models in their community. Considering the consistent underrepresentation of women of color in the media, I think the event is pretty great. In years past, Michelle Obama has even come out for it. And this year, Rihanna and Hillary Clinton came out. Clinton gave a speech about her African-American female role models – you can read her speech here. Rihanna was there because she picked up the Rock Star Award. In the past month, we’ve gotten more red carpet and paparazzi photos of Rihanna than we’ve had in the previous year. When she amps up her promotion, she really brings it. While I’m happy about all of the new Rihanna photos, I do wonder the interest level? Like, do you guys want more Rih-Rih? Do you want more fashion posts and street-style posts about Rihanna? I’m really asking – honk if you want more Rihanna! For the Black Girls Rock event, Rihanna wore this… unusual ensemble. With that face and that body, she can pull off nearly anything, but this outfit did leave me with a “???” thought bubble. She wore an oversized gingham blouse, shorts and a giant fur coat by Miu Miu. While I knew that Rihanna doesn’t have a problem with wearing fur, the choice of wearing fur to this event – and wearing fur over shorts and a blouse – is really strange. Rihanna also made a nice, tearful speech for her Rock Star Award: “Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough. The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else. Role model is not the title they like to give me…but I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks.” [From E! News] Aw. Rihanna has been talking about babies more and more lately. It does feel like her biological clock has started ticking and she’s thinking more and more about settling down and starting a family. I genuinely believe she will be a kickass mom. Last things… Rihanna dropped her video for “Kiss It Better” last week, and you can see the NSFW video here. That single has a real ‘80s vibe and I don’t know how to feel about it.
