Chris Pratt Opens Up on His Father’s Death

The 37-year-old Passengers actor admits that it took him time to finally come to terms with the death of his father, Dan Pratt, who died in 2014 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Pratt, who found out of his father’s passing while filming Jurassic World, says it wasn’t until he began filming Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 that he forced himself to fully digest his feelings.

“The truth is I ripped open some wounds that had been healing for some time,” Pratt said in an interview with British GQ, which hits newsstands on Dec. 5.

“And I didn’t want to. But I knew it was right for the moment…There are wounds that are never going to be totally healed,” he continued. “It would probably make for a better story if it was some emotional thing that I hadn’t dealt with.”

“When we face the death of a parent, you sometimes feel regret that you didn’t fully embrace what you had,” he added.

In a previous interview with GQ last year, Pratt explained why he decided not to openly talk about his father’s death.

“I knew being the lead in the movie that I was really responsible for everybody’s attitude, and so I compartmentalized it all and dealt with it in my own way, but not openly for people to see,” he said. “I got pretty angry and got drunk and almost got in a fight with a drug dealer outside of my hotel room.”

“He was a hard worker,” he gushed. “My brother and I talk about it. Part of us appreciate that he made us tough, you know, through sort of emotional scarification.”

Gilmore Girls Reviews: The Critics Weigh In

The Gilmore Girls EW cover was revealed (what’s with Luke‘s hair?) on the same day that the review embargo was lifted. The general consensus about the revival: it’s messy but occasionally wonderful. TV Line says it’s “exactly like you remember, exactly what you need” (though they’ve basically turned into a fansite), EW gives it a B+, THR’s Daniel Fienberg (who’s always a tough sell) says it is “flawed, but a must for fans,” Alan Sepinwall calls it “kind of a mess, but one we’re glad exists,” Vulture says you may find yourself “more easily spotting some of the flaws that co-exist alongside its charms,” and Variety’s Mo Ryan (who’s opinion I most often agree with) says it’s “sometimes too overstuffed” but it remains “TV comfort food.” Good enough for me!

Kaley Cuoco Admits to Nose, Boob Job

-In a new magazine interview, Kaley Cuoco readily admits that she’s had her nose and breasts done and it’s … weirdly refreshing? That’s where I am with celebrities at this point: pleasantly surprised when they’re not lying their faces off. Sigh.

-Surprise! Nick Cannon confirmed he’s expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend Brittany Bell.

Drake‘s crush on sports reporter Doris Burke might be my new favourite thing. “Dinner at my house anytime. As long as she comes alone.”

-Damn, Tom Hiddleston. When you have to dress up in an ape suit to hype your new movie, that’s probably not a good sign.

-Twist! The creator of Gilmore Girls just revealed that Luke was originally written to be a female character.

Eddie Redmayne says he auditioned for Les Miserables with Taylor Swift and she was “extraordinary.” But not extraordinary enough to get cast, I guess…

Isla Fisher poked fun of the fact that no one can tell her apart from Amy Adams by pasting Amy’s face over hers on her family holiday card.

-This is a good look at the strange disappearance of Ed, the wonderful charmbomb of a show that time forgot. Now excuse me while I go and rewatch Ed and Carol’s wedding in the finale. *sob*

-Yay! Another new Childish Gambino song has dropped. It’s Prince-y.

-I really liked this conversation between Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianna Margulies and Chelsea Handler about girl breakups. I’m not sure I agree with Margulies that women are more emotional than men. I just think that sometimes female friendships run deeper, but we don’t talk about them or analyze them like we do our relationships, so when shit goes sideways it knocks us down hard.

-This article on how TV is entering film territory when it comes to actor (and showrunner) paydays is nuts. Robert De Niro is getting $750,000 per episode for an upcoming Amazon series, while Meryl Streep is scoring $850k per episode of JJ Abrams’ The Nix, which doesn’t even have a network attached yet.

-Good dress on Nicole Kidman here.

-The international trailer for La La Land has arrived. Also, they released Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s duet, which was in my head on repeat for weeks after seeing that movie.

-Oh yeah, The Affair returns this weekend. I really liked last season — and then promptly forgot all about it.

Jessica Chastain hides people from Nazis in her giant zoo in the new trailer for The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Dakota Johnson Covers Vogue

dakota johnson vogue

I’m still waiting for that spark Dakota Johnson had in Ben & Kate to make an appearance in the 50 Shades press tour, but it remains totally absent in her new Vogue cover story. “Dakota is very funny,” costar Jamie Dornan insists, despite there being absolutely no evidence to back that up anywhere in the article.
