Olivia Wilde: ‘Girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls’

Olivia Wilde recently shared some of her beauty secrets with People magazine and I can only hope if I follow them I will look as radiant as she does. Olivia used the interview to do a little shilling for Revlon, for which she is a spokesperson, but she does offer some pretty helpful tips. She says that Jason “doesn’t love it” when she wears red lipstick to channel her inner Sophia Loren, but I’m sure he can look past that. It’s like a tiny scratch on a Bentley. Here are some highlights from the interview: On men and makeup: “All men are terrified of lipstick. But girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls. So I wear whatever I think looks best.” On her beauty inspiration: “I like to be bold on the red carpet, and the benefit of working with so many brilliant makeup artists is that I get to ask a lot of questions and say, ‘okay so when I go out next week to that birthday party I am going to try my own version of this with my own tools.’” On her day-to-day look: “I don’t leave the house without a little foundation, concealer and mascara [on]. I think that for a lot of women it’s not about disguising yourself, it’s just about giving yourself a little bump in confidence.” On the power of makeup: “The older I get, the more I get to know what works best for me. Makeup is not about changing who you are, it’s about understanding your face and highlighting your best features.” [From People] I love Olivia, but I have to disagree on a few things. I did an informal poll of my Facebook friends and random Tinder connections and not one man told me he was “terrified” of lipstick. Maybe Jason had some sort of traumatic experience with lipstick as a child. Also, the only woman I get dressed up for is myself. I have also been known to get dolled up to woo the opposite sex, so I think she may be barking up the wrong tree. She is right about using makeup to highlight your best features. She’s obviously a pro at that. Sadly, it was announced on Wednesday that Olivia’s HBO series, Vinyl, was cancelled after only one season. The show, which followed the ups and (mostly) downs of a rock ’n’ roll record label in the 1970s was produced by Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger, and I thought it was pretty good. And, of course, there’s all kinds of unresolved storylines, damn it. I hope Mick’s son, James, who played a punk singer, shows up somewhere soon. He’s a hottie. I hope Olivia’s merkin stylist can get another gig somewhere as well. Olivia took the news in stride, using Twitter to thank fans for their support. She tweeted, “Thanks for all the kind words about Vinyl, my friends. We had a BLAST, and made something special. Party on.” Thanks for all the kind words about Vinyl, my friends. We had a BLAST, and made something special. Party on. ❤️ — olivia wilde (@oliviawilde) June 23, 2016 Don’t worry about Olivia though, she’s keeping busy. She recently made her directorial debut, helming the video for the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s new song Dark Necessities. Too bad she couldn’t talk Anthony Kiedis out of rocking his “Sonny Bono 2016” look. That boy needs a makeover. Photo small: Getty Images, WENN.com, Fame Flynet

Kim Kardashian goes OFF on Taylor Swift for endlessly ‘playing the victim’

Never let it be said that Kim Kardashian doesn’t know how to get the maximum amount of attention. She’s the master of “getting attention.” It is basically her only real skill. She can’t dance, sing, write, have an original thought, model or style herself. But she’s good at getting attention. First off, GQ released their full editorial and interview with Kim and the whole thing is crazy. The editorial is full-on porn and very NSFW, and you can see GQ’s full package here. As for the interview… Kim talks and talks and talks. But the conversation about Taylor Swift is amazing. Kim tells her version of events for the controversy around Kanye’s lyric: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that bitch famous / God damn / I made that bitch famous.” Kanye maintained from the very beginning that he sought and received Taylor’s approval for that lyric. Team Swifty always claimed that Kanye is a horrible monster who was once again trying to destroy Taylor. Kim’s version is AMAZING. Even more amazing? GQ got Taylor’s people to make an absolutely bonkers comment too!! Kim says Taylor’s deep emotional wound is nonsense—okay, she says it’s a lie—and that there’s video proof, because a videographer was actually filming their phone call. Why? Because Kim’s husband commissions videographers to film everything when he’s recording an album, for posterity (and possibly, one day, a documentary). And this is where it gets sticky. “She totally approved that,” Kim says, shaking her head in annoyance. “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much sh-t for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.” Kim is on a roll now, speaking faster and more animatedly than at any other point during our time together. “What rapper would call a girl that he was rapping a line about to get approval?” Let’s stipulate here that Kim Kardashian West is not the kind of person who forgets that the tape-recorder light is blinking. But just because a rant is carefully chosen for its audience doesn’t mean it isn’t genuine. Swift, Kim insists, “totally gave the okay. Rick Rubin was there. So many respected people in the music business heard that [conversation] and knew. I mean, he’s called me a bitch in his songs. That’s just, like, what they say. I never once think, [gasping] ‘What a derogatory word! How dare he?’ Not in a million years. I don’t know why she just, you know, flipped all of a sudden.… It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, ‘The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.” Were they in touch after that? “No. Maybe an attorney’s letter she sent saying, ‘Don’t ever let that footage come out of me saying that. Destroy it.’ ” She sent one? “Yeah.” I ask Kim how Taylor Swift’s people could have known about the footage, if Swift didn’t even realize she was being recorded in the first place. Kim tells me she isn’t sure, but she thinks someone from Team Kanye might have called someone from Team Taylor. “And then they sent an attorney’s letter like, ‘Don’t you dare do anything with that footage,’ and asking us to destroy it.” She pauses. “When you shoot something, you don’t stop every two seconds and be like, ‘Oh wait, we’re shooting this for my documentary.’ You just film everything, and whatever makes the edit, then you see, then you send out releases. It’s like what we do for our show.” GQ later contacted Kanye’s reps to inquire about the possible video footage and threat of legal action from Swift’s team. While Team Kanye asserted that Kanye and Taylor’s conversation had been filmed and that they had heard from her lawyers, they declined to provide further proof. A spokesperson for Taylor Swift declined to directly answer questions seeking clarification on the matter and instead provided the following statement, printed here in radiant completeness: “Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West. However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect. Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since. Taylor has never denied that conversation took place. It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that bitch’ in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated. Kim Kardashian’s claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.” [From GQ] First let me say… Kanye and Kim do need to stop talking about this. Everyone else has moved on. I even believe the Kanye-version of events and I think he needs to move on. But the details provided here are just… incredible. Taylor’s lawyers trying to shut down footage of her approval of the lyrics, her manipulation of the situation to make it seem like Kanye was “humiliating” her again, and that epic clarification from her people? Bonkers. Oh, and the rest of the GQ interview is rather glorious. This is one of my new favorite Kim quotes: “All my friends and my sisters say, ‘You guys are so perfect for each other. There’s no one that would want to sit in your closet for hours with you and try on clothes.’” That’s probably true. GQ also mocks Kim’s “empire” in many ways, but even they have to admit that her empire (based on superficiality and vapidity) is making major bank. Kim also says she’s voting for Hillary, which we knew already. Photos courtesy of Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott/GQ.

Zendaya on the election: ‘It’s disappointing, sad, and scary. You have to vote.’

Zendaya covers the Jusly issue of Cosmopolitan looking like she’s trying to fix her shoe while showing off her incredible legs. I remember marveling at how she towered over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Grammys and it turns out she’s 5’10″ tall, which is not surprising. She’s got to be over 6′ in heels. The people at Cosmo sent us some advance quotes and while I would be surprised to hear them from most other 19 year-old starlets (see: Chloe Grace Moretz), it’s typical of Zendaya to sound wise beyond her years. She emphasized that young people who are scared to see the direction of this year’s election need to actually go out and vote instead of just tweet about it. That may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s true. She also detailed an incident in which a former publicist was racially insensitive, so she sacked her. (I love that term! I never get to use that, it’s so British.) On the election and voting: “There’s really crazy stuff happening right now, and it’s disappointing, sad, and scary. My generation, we really have to step up to the plate and vote. Tweeting is great — people say, ‘Oh, I don’t want this or that’ — but at the end of the day, tweeting isn’t a ballot. Just saying that you don’t like someone on Twitter is not going to turn a state blue or red. You have to vote.” On her return to Disney as the star and co-producer of K.C. Undercover: “The only way I was going to come back to the Disney Channel was if I was in a position of more power. One thing that is really important to me is diversity on the channel. It’s hard as a young person of a different ethnicity or background to look at the TV and not see anyone who looks like you. Representation is very important.” On a situation on set with someone being racially insensitive: “I didn’t like my hair and makeup one time on a photo shoot, and my publicist told me, ‘You should just be happy with it — they haven’t had a black girl on the cover since forever.’ She’s no longer my publicist.” On being in love versus casual hookups: “Me, personally? I would much rather be in love and have the full experience with the person I’m doing that with. Everyone deserves to be in love — it’s different from when you’re with someone you don’t really know. But as long as you protect yourself and get tested periodically, then by all means, go ahead and do what you’ve got to do!” [from Cosmopolitan] I like how she was diplomatic about her own dating preferences vs. people who like casual sex. She doesn’t sound judgy. I mean she gets her dad to chaperone dates, which seems a little excessive at 19 but maybe that’s her choice too. Given how self-possessed she is, it seems likely that she would have a say in that. Also, is she dissing the Disney channel or just television in general for not being more representative of society? I would say she’s talking about TV as a whole, because the Disney channel seems like it’s somewhat diverse already. I bet Zendaya has helped make changes there. photos credit: WENN and Cosmopolitan

Julia Roberts laughed at ‘image-obsessed’ Amal Clooney: ‘She’s so absurd’

As previewed yesterday, this week’s tabloids are full of interesting/funny/untrue speculation about George and Amal Clooney’s marriage, based solely on their appearance at the Cannes Film Festival last week. For the record (since we’re on the record!), I kind of think George and Amal are fine. Their first year of marriage was a whirlwind of craziness, but they seem to have “settled down” quite a bit in 2016. Still, I always enjoy some good Amal gossip. In Touch Weekly had the longer story full of deliciously bitchy details. Some highlights: Amal’s posing. An insider says: “Cannes has strict rules about a non-movie member posing for obligatory cast photos – it’s a big deal and very rare for a spouse to join. But Amal, with George’s blessing of course, barged right in. Amal wore a look-at-me bright yellow gown amid the cast’s sea of black, she had trouble adjusting her long train in the wind so she also held up the entire process, which meant all eyes were on her.” Julia was pissed. “Julia was stunned that Amal tried to steal her show and her thunder, and that George actually let her.” So in retaliation, Julia flirted with George, and the source says, “Amal felt like Julia was flirting with George and she was seething!” Amal hates Julia. Amal hated how friendly George and Julia were on the set of Money Monster and “Amal can’t stand how Julia monopolizes her husband’s time.” After the Cannes red carpet, Amal pulled George aside and told him that Julia was being “disrespectful.” Julia “was so mad that she had a mini-meltdown about it and was overheard complaining about Amal’s rude move and George should have known better.” Julia hates Amal too. After spending some time with Amal and George in Como, Italy last summer, “Julia left with a very bad taste in her mouth.” Julia would “mock image-obsessed Amal behind her back after seeing how Amal constantly had her hair and makeup touched up and wore glamorous gowns during a casual weekend.” A source says: “Julia laughed at her because she thinks she’s so absurd.” [From In Touch Weekly, print edition] While I think this whole thing is being overblown, I do believe that there’s some shade and gossip going on at the core. Like, Julia was pissed that Amal was being so showy and look-at-me. And Amal was pissed because Julia was goose-honking all over George. I also sort of believe that Amal is severely image-obsessed? That’s just my gut-level reaction to seeing her pap strolls and red carpet posing. Meanwhile, Star Magazine claims that Amal and George looked like they were having serious problems at Cannes. A Cannes tipster reveals that after George and Amal walked the Cannes carpet together, they stopped pretending to be all lovey-dovey. “Once inside, it was obvious to everyone there that George and Amal had been fighting all day. I don’t think either one of them wanted to be there.” Arms crossed and scowl fixed, it was clear the human rights lawyer wasn’t happy with her husband. In fact, eyewitnesses say the two barely said a word to each other during dinner that night at Le Michelangelo in Antibes and cast a frosty chill over the afterparty at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. “It looked like George truly regretted bringing Amal out. Just imagine what it must have been like when they got home!” [From Star Magazine, print edition] Sure, but WHY were they fighting? Was it because of Julia? Or something else? Chloë Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham make red carpet debut: cute?

Embed from Getty Images This ^^ is the Alexander McQueen dress Chloë Grace Moretz wore to the premiere of her new film, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. With the dress’ frayed, open knit and saloon girl fringe draped over the arm combined with an exposed sheer black lace bra, I don’t think she needed the tussled locks for the just-rolled-out-of-bed look. In Chloë’s defense, she is wearing the look as it was shown on the runway, I’m just not sure she should have. Anyway, Chloë, 19, walked with OFFICIAL boyfriend, Brooklyn Beckman, 17, on their first red carpet! The couple started dating about two years ago but were cagey about their status for some time. Well, no longer: Social Media Posting? Check. Official Confirmation? Check. Red Carpet Appearance? Check – folks, this relationship has lift-off. Brooklyn, looking a great deal like Blane from Pretty in Pink, happy posed with his girlfriend on her big night and the two shared the same amount of PDA as they did while dining with their families last month. Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham just took a major step in their relationship. The two hit their first red carpet together earlier tonight at the Hollywood premiere of Moretz’s new comedy Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. “Now, it’s out. It’s done,” Moretz, 19, told me. “Get over it. It’s real. We’re together and that’s it!” Beckham, 17, actually surprised Moretz by flying in for the premiere from London. “He’s very sweet,” Moretz said, adding, “He’s a very very genuine man. He’s a gentle man.” The two took some photos before Moretz made her way down the carpets to do interviews. Beckham was spotted hanging out behind the step and repeat before heading into the theater. Moretz also gushed about Brooklyn’s mom Victoria Beckham. Yes, they talk about fashion. “She’s a sweetie,” said Moretz, who was wearing a black ensemble from Alexander McQueen. “I love everything she does. We definitely give each other compliments, that’s for sure.” The raunchy Neighbors sequel is something different for Moretz. In fact, she even shot a sex scene with Efron. While it didn’t make the final cut of the movie, Moretz said, “We’re going to release it online pretty soon. It’s pretty wild.” [From E! News] Okay, it’s kind of sweet that he flew in to surprise her for the premiere – but that is as generous as I am going to get. Is it just me or is Chloë reading a little more importance into her relationship than, say, the rest of the world? “Get over it”? Well, gosh, give me a minute to… oh, wait – I am over it. Moreham (Chlooklyn?) does want us to know that they have only recently reunited. This may be due to the fact that Brooklyn’s relationship with Sonia Ben Ammar just ended in March. However, reminding the world she had him first, Chloë told Entertainment Tonight that they met, “a long time ago, years ago.” She also says Brooklyn’s, “… a sweetie. He’s a good boy!” (ruff!) In the excerpt above, she calls Victoria Beckham “a sweetie” as well. So I guess all the Beckhams are just a big bunch of sweeties. I may pass on the sex scene between Chloë and Zac Efron, though. Chloe may be 19 but she doesn’t quite look it to me. The good news for Chloë is Neighbors 2, which opens this Friday, is – so far – getting semi-decent reviews as a comedy. Oh heavens to Betsy – what is Rose Byrne wearing? Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Photo Credit: Fame/Flynet Photos and Getty Images

Soko wears lace Chloe doily to Cannes photocall: interesting or terrible?

Here are some photos from the Cannes photocall for The Dancer, also being called La Danseuse (French for “the dancer”). The film is being called Lily-Rose Depp’s big entrance into acting, and she stars as Isadora Duncan. Soko – best known around here as Kristen Stewart’s melodramatic ex-girlfriend – plays Loie Fuller. I was expecting the fashion-story around this film to be centered around Lily-Rose, honestly. I wasn’t expecting Soko to bring it at all. But Soko brought it! And Lily-Rose just didn’t. Lily-Rose is wearing Chanel shorts and insouciance. Soko wore this lace Chloe dress which just looks like a gigantic doily to me. I was going to shade the sh-t out of this choice, but then I looked up Loie Fuller and I saw this amazing photo of her. My point? I think Soko is homage-ing the real Fuller with this look, and for that, I can’t shade her. I’ll also say this as gently as possible but… I didn’t realize that Soko is actually quite pretty? In paparazzi photos with K-Stew and on other red carpets, she’s looked sort of grungy and like she thought our notions of beauty were petty bourgeoisie nonsense. But she took a shower and applied some makeup and she looks nice. Also: there’s already some drama on the Kristen Stewart thing. Following their split a few weeks ago, Soko slammed Kristen (maybe) as a “f—king cheater.” Now they’re both in Cannes and attending the same Chanel party. They arrived separately and things were probably “tense.” Last thing: I didn’t realize that Gaspard Ulliel is in this film. Gaspard is MY FRENCH BAE. He’s mine! I love him and I don’t see enough of him. Those dimples kill me every time. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Was Johnny Depp drunk at the ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ premiere?

Here are some photos of Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska at last night’s London premiere of Alice Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the wildly popular Alice in Wonderland adaptation by Tim Burton. Depp returns as the Mad Hatter, Mia returns as Alice, and Sacha Baron Cohen (also pictured) stars as Time. This film also features Alan Rickman’s last voice performance as the Blue Caterpillar. Personally, I’m a little bit surprised that Amber Heard didn’t join her husband at this premiere – Amber loves a red carpet, and she loves the attention she gets from being on Johnny’s arm. I guess she’s working on Aquaman (she plays Aquaman’s wife) and maybe she couldn’t get away? Perhaps. Or maybe she didn’t want to prop up a totally sauced Johnny Depp one more time. Although I will say that Depp doesn’t look completely sh-t faced in these photos. I’d say he had a buzz, but wasn’t fall-down drunk. Speaking of Johnny slurring his words uncomfortably, most of you have already seen this video, but it’s worth posting. Following Depp and Heard’s hilariously awkward video apology in Australia, Johnny declared this week that wherever he goes now, he’s going to awkwardly apologize. How drunk does he seem in this video? More photos… allegedly, Mia is wearing Prada. It’s so blah, but then again… I’ve never thought Mia had any red-carpet “presence.” She’s a wonderful actress, but a failure as a fashionista. Isla Fisher looks pretty though. Photos courtesy of WENN.
