Jessica Alba in Bikinis for Shape Magazine

On starting The Honest Company:

“[People] usually thought of someone in my position as more of a spokesperson, someone that would sell beauty products. Most of my advisers in entertainment thought I should do a perfume or something like that. The reason why I went into business was really to create a safer and healthier world for my children and for all children. The rise of toxic chemicals in our everyday life has contributed to so many serious and chronic illnesses. I felt someone really needed to make better products that are safe, non-toxic, healthy, beautifully designed, affordable and easy to get.”

… says Jessica.

Hilary Duff: “I’d rather have someone pull my fingernails off than go on a diet”

Untitled-1

On how she hates dieting:

I’d rather have someone pull my fingernails off than hunker down and go on an actual diet.

On her workouts:

I work out with weighted balls, battle ropes, and big rubber bands. I do this think with a sledge-hammer where I swing it and hit a rubber block, and it gets out all of my aggressions,’ she continued, ‘Everyone is like “Uh-oh, Hilary’s got the hammer – get out of the way!”

On her favorite healthy snack:

Wasa cracker topped with avocado, radish, chia seeds, a little olive oil, some sea salt, lemon, and dill.

Olivia Wilde: “I am not in perfect shape. I’m a mother, and I look like one”

On her post-baby body:

“I am not in perfect shape. In fact, I’m softer than I’ve ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot. The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I’m a mother, and I look like one.”

On the pressures of getting back in shape:

“I believe in a world where mothers are not expected to shed any physical evidence of their child-bearing experience. In that same world I believe there is space for exercise to be as much a gift to your brain as it is to your body. I don’t want to waste my time striving for some subjective definition of perfection. I’d rather rebuild my strength while dancing my ass off … literally.”

… says Olivia in Shape Magazine.

On how she likes to shock her body and push her fitness limits:

“I like to shock my body by doing different things. When I was on tour, even though I was dancing two hours a night, I felt I needed more so I started doing dance movies with ankle or wrist weights on.”

… says Julianne.

On how she keeps fit:

The last time I weighed myself was 12 years ago, when I left the hospital with my newborn son, Evan, and I was 185 pounds. Now I measure by how my jeans fit. But I want to be real here and tell you that my weight goes up and down a lot. I was definitely up after the holidays last year, so I tried what everyone always says to do: running. I was on that treadmill every day for 45 minutes. I don’t do anything fancy with intervals to spike my pulse rate, because I have palpitations and my heart can’t handle the intensity. I did a moderate pace and kept it there the whole time. After a few weeks, the extra weight dropped off.

… says Jenny in Shape, which is interesting, considering that she was quoted sharing her weight on more than one occasions in the past years.

Naomi Campbell: “I don’t believe in starving myself”

Naomi Campbell: I don’t believe in starving myself | naomi campbell

Supermodel Naomi Campbell shows off her toned figure on the cover of Shape magazine this month – here are a few highlights from the interview:

I don’t believe in starving myself. I’ve never done it, and I never will. I’m even more active when I’m juicing, doing both yoga and Pilates every day.” Otherwise, her eating plan is as clean as it gets, kicking off with hot water and lemon plus an intense yoga session while including vegetable juices, herbal tea, and salads with fish or steak. Still, every woman—supermodel or not—has her indulgences. For Campbell, it’s a chocolate bar in England called Galaxy that she says she can’t give up. Something she learned she could give up, though? Her decades-long addiction to smoking. “People told me that cigarettes are harder to quit than alcohol,” she says. “I didn’t believe it, but you know what? It is harder.” She still struggles to stay off the smokes with the help of a nicotine patch.
