The Rock eats candy for the first time in 27 years on The Tonight Show

As a person who thinks candy is a food group, this story is inconceivable to me. While promoting Central Intelligence on The Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that he has not eaten candy in 27 years. After admitting he still loves his cheat days, DJ explained that candy just isn’t his thing and the last piece he had was a Twizzler while watching a movie in 1989. So Jimmy produced an assortment of treats to coax DJ to indulge after two + decades on national television. As always, DJ was happy to oblige. Dwayne Johnson shared a very interesting fact about himself with Jimmy Fallon during a recent appearance on the Tonight Show. The Central Intelligence star, who is known for sticking to a strict diet and workout regimen in order to maintain his impressive physique, admitted that he had not eaten candy since 1989. That’s right! Apparently, the professional wrestler-turned-actor managed to stay away from eating candy for nearly 27 years. When he opened up about the candy-eating hiatus to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Dwayne made it very clear that his decision did not necessarily deal with the boundaries of his strict diet. As many of The Rock’s fans and followers already know, Dwayne is a huge fan of embracing the infamous “Cheat Day” whenever the seemingly rare opportunity to do so presents itself. “I’m just not a big ‘candy guy.’ You know, I love cheat meals. Right? I love that, but I’m just not like… a candy thing.” “It’s crazy how I remember this kind of stuff, right? It’s like ‘Rain Main.’ Twizzlers is the last [candy] I had and we were at a movie theater watching a movie.” Even though Dwayne did not remember the movie that he was watching while eating the Twizzler, it’s still somewhat impressive that he was able to identify the specific type of candy that was consumed. Jimmy Fallon was eager to try and “make a little history” by tempting Dwayne Johnson to eat candy during his Tonight Show appearance – bringing his 27-year hiatus to an end. Instead of eating the entire pack of Twizzlers – or even attempting to take a bite out of the giant gummy worm – Jimmy Fallon decided to feed Dwayne the pop rocks instead. [From Inquisitr] There are a dozen other candies I would have gone with before Pop Rocks but I guess there is some poetry to The Rock ending his candy-fast with Pop Rocks. BTW – Hecate ParenTip: Pop Rocks will entertain your children for hours on a long car ride. They will bounce of the walls when you arrive at your destination but at least your drive will be smooth. The whole segment is worth it just to see DJ seductively swing the giant gummy worm Jimmy had on hand to tempt him. The Rock and Giant Gummy Worm should become a meme. Speaking of memes, Jimmy and DJ did a high school prom skit, in which they morphed into the Ermahgerd character. The skit’s okay but they look fantastic. In case you haven’t seen it already, the Moana teaser trailer, in which Dj voices Maui, dropped last week. Below is the clip of DJ and the Pop Rocks. Like DJ said, he still loves his cheat days. His cheat day meals and puppy pics are just two more great reasons to follow him on Instagram. Zendaya on the election: ‘It’s disappointing, sad, and scary. You have to vote.’

Zendaya covers the Jusly issue of Cosmopolitan looking like she’s trying to fix her shoe while showing off her incredible legs. I remember marveling at how she towered over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Grammys and it turns out she’s 5’10″ tall, which is not surprising. She’s got to be over 6′ in heels. The people at Cosmo sent us some advance quotes and while I would be surprised to hear them from most other 19 year-old starlets (see: Chloe Grace Moretz), it’s typical of Zendaya to sound wise beyond her years. She emphasized that young people who are scared to see the direction of this year’s election need to actually go out and vote instead of just tweet about it. That may sound like a no-brainer, but it’s true. She also detailed an incident in which a former publicist was racially insensitive, so she sacked her. (I love that term! I never get to use that, it’s so British.) On the election and voting: “There’s really crazy stuff happening right now, and it’s disappointing, sad, and scary. My generation, we really have to step up to the plate and vote. Tweeting is great — people say, ‘Oh, I don’t want this or that’ — but at the end of the day, tweeting isn’t a ballot. Just saying that you don’t like someone on Twitter is not going to turn a state blue or red. You have to vote.” On her return to Disney as the star and co-producer of K.C. Undercover: “The only way I was going to come back to the Disney Channel was if I was in a position of more power. One thing that is really important to me is diversity on the channel. It’s hard as a young person of a different ethnicity or background to look at the TV and not see anyone who looks like you. Representation is very important.” On a situation on set with someone being racially insensitive: “I didn’t like my hair and makeup one time on a photo shoot, and my publicist told me, ‘You should just be happy with it — they haven’t had a black girl on the cover since forever.’ She’s no longer my publicist.” On being in love versus casual hookups: “Me, personally? I would much rather be in love and have the full experience with the person I’m doing that with. Everyone deserves to be in love — it’s different from when you’re with someone you don’t really know. But as long as you protect yourself and get tested periodically, then by all means, go ahead and do what you’ve got to do!” [from Cosmopolitan] I like how she was diplomatic about her own dating preferences vs. people who like casual sex. She doesn’t sound judgy. I mean she gets her dad to chaperone dates, which seems a little excessive at 19 but maybe that’s her choice too. Given how self-possessed she is, it seems likely that she would have a say in that. Also, is she dissing the Disney channel or just television in general for not being more representative of society? I would say she’s talking about TV as a whole, because the Disney channel seems like it’s somewhat diverse already. I bet Zendaya has helped make changes there. photos credit: WENN and Cosmopolitan

Snoop Dogg wants people to boycott the History Channel’s ‘Roots’ miniseries

I did not watch the History Channel’s miniseries reboot of Roots. The miniseries began last night, and it continues over four nights. The original miniseries – also based on Alex Haley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book – was groundbreaking television when it was made in 1977. It was one of the most-watched television events in American history and it became a national talking point in a larger conversation about race and civil rights in America. The History Channel’s reboot (or “reimagining”) of the miniseries with a whole new cast is supposed to be reflective of our current conversation about race in America, about Black Lives Matter, about violence against black bodies and more. But some people are just tired of watching movies and miniseries about slavery. One of those people is Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg has no plans to watch the Roots remake, and he’s telling his fans to also boycott the show. The rapper sent out his message over social media on Monday. “I’m sick of this sh-t. How the f— are they going to put Roots on, on Memorial Day?” Snoop said in an Instagram video. “They going to just to keep beating that sh-t into our heads about how they did us, huh?” The History channel’s revival is a four-part, eight-hour series that debuts Monday. Snoop said he has no interest in new shows and movies — specifically mentioning 12 Years a Slave — that “keep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.” “I ain’t watching that sh-t, and I advise you motherf-—ers as real n— like myself; f— them television shows,” Snoop said. “Let’s create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what’s real. F— that old sh-t.” [From THR] Snoop Dogg, social critic. Is it weird that I think he has a completely legitimate point? The most recent example is the 2013-14 awards season, where 12 Years a Slave dominated and Fruitvale Station was ignored. While I thought 12 Years was a powerful piece of filmmaking and a film full of incredible performances, why was it pushed for awards while Fruitvale largely ignored? Fruitvale was a modern story (and a true story, like 12 Years) of brutality on black bodies. Both were important films that said important things. But Hollywood likes to reward films and miniseries about slavery and white saviors and downtrodden historical black folks. They don’t want to reward modern stories about the African-American experience, with multifaceted African-American characters operating in a multiethnic and morally ambiguous context. Kyle Richards on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: It’s Either Kim or Me!

Kim Richards made a return to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Tuesday night. In a surprise move that should not have come as a surprise to anyone, the troubled reality star stopped by the show’s reunion in order to … well… ramble incoherently for the most part. She acted in denial of any kind of drinking problem and didn’t address her recent arrest or litany of personal/legal issues. So she basically acted like Kim Richards. But while Kim made a few appearances on the series that made her famous this season, she is still not a full-time cast member. Might this change in the future? It’s very possible, seeing as people watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills online or on television just to see the drama that Kim brings along with her. However, if Kim Richards does return to full-time cast member status in 2017, her sister will not be joining her. Allegedly.   According to a Life & Style insider, “Kyle put her foot down” when it comes to Kim getting rehired. She has supposedly threatened to quit the reality program is Kim is brought back. “She’s concerned the fame and publicity will derail Kim all over again,” the tabloid writes. That certainly does seem plausible. Kim, who has been in and out of rehab and was arrested for shoplifting in 2015, “has finally managed to get sober and take control of her life, but she’s still very vulnerable,” the source adds. Why would she therefore expose herself to the tension-filled universe of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Do you really need us to spell this out for you? Okay, we will. Here we go: MONEY. Kourtney Kardashian: Fighting With Scott Disick More Fun Than Fighting Boredom

Ah, family.  And television. AND RATINGS! If you’ve been living under a rock for the past three months, then welcome back!  Also, you missed some pretty important things, though none more important than Scott Disick’s re-entry into the Keeping Up With The Kardashians fold! “Scott has been filming for several weeks now,” a source close to the Kardashians told Radar Online. “He is being paid on a per-show basis under the assumption that he is sober. Scott goes through phases where he is a mess and burns it all down, followed by months of playing the role of responsible father. This is just how it is,” the source added. “Kris does not care about what is best for Scott anymore. She is using him for show ratings!” #Family “She knows that people want to watch Scott especially now that he is unstable,” the source went on.  “Also Kourtney gets bored when she’s not fighting with Scott and all of their drama did really well for the show last season.” Is it? A few months ago, GQ did a feature on celebrity club appearances, and accompanied Scott Disick to 1OAK in Las Vegas. One club goer was celebrating her 21st birthday at the club, and when asked why she wanted to spend it with Disick, she explained that he “is a dick, but he’s funny.” And there you have it. Olivia Wilde on ‘Vinyl’ fashion: ‘People in the ’70s apparently didn’t have hips’

The last time we talked about Olivia Wilde she was discussing the merkin (pubic wig) which she has to wear for nude scenes on her HBO show, Vinyl, set in the 1970s. I was surprised at how many of you had strong feelings about that issue, particularly Olivia’s embarrassment at having a hirsute nether region, even temporarily. I don’t think she was saying that hair down there is hideous, just that she prefers more grooming in that area. To each their own. Some people like their hair long, some like it short. Now Olivia is discussing the fashion on Vinyl, specifically the real vintage clothing they wear. She’s representing H&M’s conscious collection, so that’s part of the reason she’s talking about this issue as well. “I’ll walk around with the wardrobe assistant saying, ‘I want that one, I want that one.’ I really have been so inspired by all the wardrobe across the board,” Wilde told PeopleStyle at the H&M Conscious Exclusive 2016 Collection event in N.Y.C., adding that not all looks work on her: “I can’t fit into any of the pants because people in the ’70s apparently just didn’t have hips. I guess that’s all the hormones in our food, but I don’t understand it. You pick up the jeans and they’re straight — there’s no butt and there’s no hips. They’re for a straight body.” The actress added that there’s also a 2016 pants trend she has trouble pulling off: Boyfriend jeans. “I try to wear the trend, but it always looks terrible, because I have really short legs,” she shared. “Almost everything we wear on the show is real vintage. And that’s a lot of effort on the part of our designer and on the part of the team,” she shared. “We have a whole kind of workshop to take real vintage items and fix them — because when you buy vintage you sometimes have to do a little bit of tailoring and cleaning. We should just be buying things that already exist as oppose to trying to mass produce everything new. Plus, it’s fun to buy things that have a story so that you can say this is a vintage Halston, a piece that has been around.” Wilde has also been going to vintage shops since she was 12, so she’s now a pro at repairing old clothes. “Now I know what to look for and know what to do when I see something that’s messed up. You can buy it, take it to a seamstress and it’s not that expensive fix it, clean it,” she shared. “It’s much cooler to have something that has history than to just buy something new.” Her passion for recycling old clothes makes her the perfect person to partner with H&M on its latest Conscious collection, hitting stores Thursday. Wilde starred in the campaign last year, and this year she’s continuing to spread the brand’s message of eco-friendly fashion. “We think that we’re going to sacrifice style in order to be sustainable, and that’s not true as this collection proves,” Wilde said. “That’s what I love about what H&M’s done this year and last year. They are really good at showing that you can wear a piece that doesn’t necessarily scream sustainability, but just happens to be taking advantage of this new innovation that they’re investing in. I think they’re very smart about the whole process and pioneers within this movement, which I didn’t necessarily know before. I think I connected H&M with my idea of what fast fashion meant to the world. I didn’t realize how much work they were putting in to changing that.” [From People] While it’s true that people in the 70s were smaller than they are now, I think that saying that they didn’t have hips is like saying women in the 50s had pointy boobs. Straight legs were just the style. Plus when you’re talking about vintage fashion, the stuff that’s left is whatever people haven’t bought yet so of course it’s the outlier sizes. I haven’t watched this show yet but I have to say that I love the vintage fashion on The Americans especially. It’s set in the early 80s and their coat p0rn is amazing. I recently read a book by a costume designer for television called How to Get Dressed. The author, Alison Freer, says that fit is key to looking polished, not following trends. She emphasizes tailoring, which is exactly what Wilde is saying here about shopping second hand. You can really see the work that goes into the clothing on television and that book gave me a newfound appreciation for thrift shopping. It must be a blast to get to dressed up in period fashion for your job. As long as it’s not a merkin. Embed from Getty Images photos credit: WENN.com, FameFlynet, Getty and Pacific Coast News
