Oprah will do 2 hr sit down with Adele

Adele has a new album dropping soon and it seems she’s chosen Oprah to be the one to introduce it to the world.

Coming this November Adele will host her own CBS special in which she will perform new material from her upcoming album.

The singer, 33, will also sit down with Oprah Winfrey for a wide-ranging chat covering her divorce, weight loss and motherhood.

The two-hour special, entitled Adele One Night Only, will air on the channel on November 14, five days before the release of her long-awaited fourth album, 30.

The special, which will be filmed in Los Angeles, has been billed as: ‘Adele’s first televised wide-ranging conversation about her new album, the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son.’

No word on when the UK will get their hands on it, but you can stream it, so hopefully if they are that interested they can do that.

Adele is giving one TV interview for ’30′ and she’s giving it to Oprah!

adele one night

One of the main takeaways from Adele’s Vogue interviews was that she’s really ready to “come back.” She even said as much in one of the interviews – she’s ready to be a celebrity again. She’s prepared for it, and I think she understands how to move in those celebrity circles now, she understands the paparazzi, she understands how to deal with the pressure and the attention. We also heard, weeks ago, that Adele was in talks with a few networks and streaming companies to do some kind of big comeback special, which is similar to what she did when she released 25. Now we’ve got more details: OPRAH!

Oprah Winfrey is set to interview Adele as part of a two-hour special welcoming back the Grammy winner from her years-long break.

After Page Six broke the news that Adele had a “massive” TV spectacle “in the works” for the holiday season, CBS announced Monday that “Adele One Night Only” will air on Nov. 14, the week before Thanksgiving.

“The special will feature an exclusive interview with Adele by Oprah Winfrey from her rose garden, in Adele’s first televised wide-ranging conversation about her new album, the stories behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son,” the network said in a press release.

“Adele One Night Only” will also feature “an extraordinary concert performance that includes the earliest opportunity to hear her first new material in six years,” according to CBS.

The special is being produced by James Corden and Ben Winston’s Fulwell 73 and Onward Productions in association with Winfrey’s Harpo Productions.

[From Page Six]

A few hour special with Oprah in a garden, which will air on CBS?? Adele watched the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview and she was like “I want that!” It sounds like the exact same vibe, plus some concert footage. I’m seriously thrilled that we’re going to see Adele’s garden too, I’ve been dying to see more of her LA home. One of the Vogue pieces said her house looks like a typical English cottage too – I wonder if Oprah will shoot anything inside the house? OMG.

Adele’s ‘Easy on Me’ music video is here: sad, wistful, nostalgic & perfect?

adele easy1

I appreciate the fact that Adele gave us notice for new sad divorce music, so I think all of us Adele fans went back to 21 and 25 to prepare ourselves. Like, we can’t be thrown into the boiling water of heartbreak, we have to be eased into the water gradually. The throughline of Adele’s music isn’t just about heartbreak, it’s about nostalgia, a yearning nostalgia for being young, free and open to life-altering love. She’s in her 30s now, one divorce behind her, older and wiser and trying to take ownership of her sh-t, but the nostalgia for who she was and the decisions she made “back then” still remain.

Adele prepared us for “Easy on Me,” her first single off her album 30. She told Vogue that this album isn’t full of “Hello” type songs, but you can definitely feel the echo of “Hello” in “Easy,” not just lyrically, but in the video. Like the “Hello” video, “Easy” was directed by Xavier Dolan, whose wistfulness suits Adele very well. Here’s the video for “Easy on Me.”

She’s right, it’s not an anthemic banger like “Hello” or “Rolling in the Deep” (her first singles from her previous albums). She seems to have simplified her production and made a conscious choice to let her lyrics and voice speak for themselves. I enjoyed all of this – the song, the lyrics, the video. She’s growing as a visual artist too, she’s maturing all around.

This week, Adele posted this on Instagram – I guess this is the album cover for 30. The second slide is a statement about what this album means to her and what she was going through as she made it.

Adele on her divorce: ‘I would have been miserable had I not put myself first’

Adele BV2

Adele covers the November issues of both American Vogue and British Vogue, all to promote her new album. Both magazines dropped their covers last week around the same time, and guess what? She did two different interviews and two different photoshoots. The British Vogue interview – the one I’m covering in this post – is more about all of the changes she’s made in the past five years, losing weight, going through a divorce, keeping her personal life hidden away, and on and on. Because it’s a British publication, there is this idea that Adele kind of sold out by moving to America – California no less – and that she’s raising her son there rather than jolly olde England. Adele doesn’t care. She knows what she needs. You can read the full piece here – one of the longest celebrity profiles I’ve ever read – and here are some highlights:

The new album: “I feel like this album is self-destruction, then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption. But I feel ready. I really want people to hear my side of the story this time.”

Divorcing Angelo’s dad: “My son has had a lot of questions. Really good questions, really innocent questions, that I just don’t have an answer for. ‘Why can’t you still live together?’ I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness. It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.”

Why she left Simon: “It just wasn’t… It just wasn’t right for me any more. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew. I wasn’t miserable miserable, but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first. But, yeah, nothing bad happened or anything like that.”

Her divorce was embarrassing: “But I was terrified. People were everywhere, trying to get stories, and I just hated it. I was embarrassed. I was really embarrassed. That thing of not being able to make something work. We’ve been trained as women to keep trying, even by the movies we watched when we were little. At the time it broke my heart, but I actually find it so interesting now. How we’re told to suck it up.”

How she lost 100 lbs: “I think one of the reasons people lost the plot was because actually, it was over a two-year period… It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better. It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it. I work out two or three times a day. So I do my weights in the morning, then I normally hike or I box in the afternoon, and then I go and do my cardio at night. I was basically unemployed when I was doing it. And I do it with trainers…. People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey’. They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram, and most people in my position would get a big deal with a diet brand. I couldn’t give a flying f**k. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it? I don’t find it fascinating. It’s my body.”

Why she moved to California: “Most of my life is in a car or inside a building. I wanted fresh air and somewhere I could see the sky. Also, once I had Angelo, in England if you haven’t got a plan with a young child and it’s raining, you’re f**ked. And the kind of house I have in LA I could never afford in London. Ever…I looked at houses [in London]. It’s like hundreds of millions of pounds. I don’t have that much money at all. I’d throw up.”

On her boyfriend Rich Paul: “Yes, we’re together,” confirms Adele. It’s been a few months, apparently, although they’ve had friends in common for ages. “We’re very happy. And I didn’t get dragged along to the [basketball game the other night] because that’s his line of work. I was like, ‘We’re going to the game.’”

Rich doesn’t mind how famous she is: “It used to, but it hasn’t been this time because he doesn’t mind. Normally, I think I get scared about it because it’s very emasculating. Really emasculating. I did date before Rich, but they hated it. They’d find it stressful being out or seen with me, which meant that I guarded all of it beyond. It never evolved because we were never experiencing things together. Whereas he’s not frazzled by it at all. It feels like it’s consistent and considerate enough that I don’t care who knows. He’s great. He’s so f**kng funny. He’s so smart, you know.”

When did she actually marry Simon? “The timeline the press have of my relationship, my marriage, is actually completely wrong. We got married when I was 30… and then I left.” How long after you married did you end it? “I’m not gonna go into that detail. Remember I am embarrassed. This is very embarrassing. It wasn’t very long. I always called him my husband, because we had a kid together.”

[From British Vogue]

There are a million other major stories in there, like all of the nice things she says about Simon, how he lives across the street from her and how she’s proud that he’s her baby-daddy. I was surprised about the wedding date thing – I thought they were married long before 2018 as well? And then to split up the next year… well, Adele is taking the “blame” for it. She wanted different things, she wanted to blow up that life. Adele sounds like she really likes Rich Paul and I hope that goes well for her. Oh, and she also owned up to that photo she posted where she wore bantu knots in honor of Notting Hill Carnival. She says that she “didn’t read the f–king room” and she totally gets why “people felt like it was appropriating.”

Adele: ‘I’m a 33-year-old divorced mother of a son, who’s actually in charge’

244547431_408296514416205_3233930547874024549_n

American Vogue did their own exclusive photoshoot with Adele for their November cover, and they totally bungled the cover shot. The rest of the editorial is lovely and interesting, and I’ll never understand how this image was chosen for the cover. Awful. I ended up reading Adele’s British Vogue and American Vogue interviews back-to-back. She’s in much the same headspace for both, although I feel like she’s just “lighter” and more laid-back in American Vogue. She’s obviously promoting her new album, and now that she’s in her 30s, having been a relative recluse for the past five years, she says she’s “getting ready to be famous again.” Yes! You can read the full Vogue piece here. Some highlights:

Drinking during the pandemic: “It got earlier and earlier, the drinking. My first emergency run at the grocery store was for Whispering Angel and ketchup,” Adele says, referring to her favorite rosé. “Whispering Angel turned me into a barking dog. It did not make me whisper.”

Her Saturn Return: “Then I hit my Saturn return. It’s where I lost the plot.” It takes 27 to 32 years for Saturn to fully orbit around the sun and return to the position it was in when you were born, Adele explains. “When that comes, it can rock your life.It shakes you up a bit: Who am I? What do I want to do? What makes me truly happy? All those things.”

Why her marriage ended: “I was just going through the motions and I wasn’t happy. Neither of us did anything wrong. Neither of us hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me. I’ve been on my journey to find my true happiness ever since.”

What got her through her Year of Anxiety? “It was a lot of sound baths. It was a lot of meditation. It was a lot of therapy. And a lot of time spent on my own.” The gym was key: “It became my time. I realized that when I was working out, I didn’t have any anxiety. It was never about losing weight. I thought, If I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong.” She started with her lower back and stomach: “I have a bad back and I had a C-section. So I had just nothing going on down there.”

She realized she was the common denominator in her relationships: “I realized that I was the problem. Cause all the other albums are like, You did this! You did that! F–k you! Why can’t you arrive for me? Then I was like: Oh, sh-t, I’m the running theme, actually. Maybe it’s me!”

On Rich Paul: “He was always there, I just didn’t see him,” she’d said. She tells me they met at a party a couple years ago. “I was a bit drunk. I said: Do you want to sign me? I’m an athlete now. He’s just so f–king funny. He was dancing. All the other guys were just sitting around. He was just dancing away.”

On her dating life: “[With Rich], I don’t feel anxious or nervous or frazzled. It’s quite the opposite. It’s wild…I’m a 33-year-old divorced mother of a son, who’s actually in charge. The last thing I need is someone who doesn’t know where they’re at, or what they want. I know what I want. And I really know what I don’t want.”

On her weight loss: “My body’s been objectified my entire career. It’s not just now. I understand why it’s a shock. I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person. The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very f–king disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”

The new album doesn’t have a “Hello” type song: “There isn’t a bombastic ‘Hello.’ But I don’t want another song like that. That song catapulted me in fame to another level that I don’t want to happen again. I’m not saying I’ve got ‘Hello’s in my pocket. I was just conscious that I didn’t want my story on this album to sound like that.”

[From Vogue]

This was so funny to me: “I’m not saying I’ve got ‘Hello’s in my pocket” – I love her but what the hell? She’s got “Hello”-level mega-hits in her pocket and she’s not handing them out? Come on. As for Adele being hurt by women judging her body… I do think that many women felt so protective of her and then she lost 100 lbs and we were like “um WHAT.” We felt attacked! Or something. And this: “Oh, sh-t, I’m the running theme, actually. Maybe it’s me!” When will Taylor??

She name-drops two famous women, two of her peers, in the Vogue article as well. She tells the story about winning the Grammy instead of Beyonce (when Bey was up for Lemonade). Adele was convinced that night that Bey would win and then it suddenly occurred to her that she might win instead. She ended up going to Beyonce’s dressing room twice (because Adele was crying) to tell Bey that B should have won and that what B is doing musically is out of this world and so important. Adele also told a funny story about how Angelo’s favorite artist is Taylor Swift, and she took him to one of Swift’s concerts in 2018 and he was amazed by the stadium full of people. Adele said, “I got really annoyed! I was like, Excuse me! This is what I do, you know. He said, When we go on tour, should I have a seat next to me with Taylor Swift’s name on it for Taylor to come?” Angelo is Snake Fam?!!

Adele released a very short clip ahead of her new album release

adele makeup2

Even when I know what’s coming, even when I know that Adele is about to drop heartache and tears and longing on us, I still get goosebumps. The last time Adele released an album, she was married with a young child. Five years later, she’s divorced, her son Angelo is about to turn nine years old, and she’s living full time in California (I think). Adele has obviously foreshadowed her return – the strategic leaks to radio stations, Taylor Swift changing the release date of her album (Red), the light projections in major cities around the world. So we knew this album was coming, and we anticipated that it would happen this week. But this is all we’re getting today:

I’m telling you, I genuinely got goosebumps. She hasn’t even opened her mouth yet! But the clip is so evocative… she’s leaving, she’s packed up her things and she’s said goodbye to some man. She still has a cassette player in her beat-up junker car. The piano. Black-and-white. The sheet music going out the window. We’re gonna cry a lot.

Meanwhile, Vulture’s sources are telling them that Adele’s people have approached multiple networks and streaming services about some kind of TV special she wants to stage to promote the album. She’s apparently talked to NBC (who aired her special the last time around), CBS, Netflix, Amazon, Disney/ABC, etc. She’s apparently still figuring out what she wants, but some are saying an outdoor concert filmed into a special. Adele: Live at the Hollywood Bowl, something like that? So far, the deal has not been finalized anywhere, so we’ll see.

Adele not only changed up her social media images, she also tweeted for the first time in nine months. Adele probably caused Facebook and Instagram to break down for hours!

Hiya babes!

Is Adele dropping her new album this week? Radio stations seem to think so.

adele makeup2

Rumors about Adele’s new album have been simmering for months, or perhaps even years. Adele is not exactly Beyonce when it comes to “dropping a complete album out of the blue and stunning fans.” Adele usually gives us some cryptic warning, so we have some idea about what’s going to happen. It feels like this is the moment for cryptic warnings! I’ve heard a few different rumors that the new album will drop this fall, and that there will be a TV special and a magazine cover. It feels like some radio stations are getting the call that a new single is about to drop too.

Rumor has it that Adele could be releasing her next album as soon as this week, and her fans are feeling very strongly about it.

On Tuesday (Sept. 28), radio host Mauler from The Morning Hot Tub and Stingray Hit List Countdown wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “New Adele. This week.” Additionally, when the Billboard Charts Twitter account shared Adele’s stats over the years on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 — including four No. 1 Hot 100 hits (“Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Hello”) and two chart-topping albums (21 and 25) — some fans ran wild.

“SHE IS F—ING COMING I FEEL IT,” one user commented on the tweet.

Adele’s last album, 2015′s 25, not only logged 10 weeks at No. 1 on the all-genre albums tally, but also won album of the year and best pop vocal album at the 2017 Grammy Awards and was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The 15-time Grammy-winning singer might also sneak in her fourth studio album right before the deadline for 2022 Grammy eligibility, which is on Thursday, Sept. 30.

[From Billboard]

Will it happen this week? Next week? Does Adele care about Grammy eligibility at this very moment? I don’t know. It feels like Grammy eligibility isn’t her biggest concern at this point. But who even knows. I can feel it my bones though – Adele is coming. Soon. And she’s been through a whole-ass divorce since the last album, so we know there will be some heartbreaking songs.
