In Touch: Jessica Simpson is ‘hell bent on landing a Vegas residency’
When you think Jessica Simpson you think platform shoes, farts, and bags with needless fringe right? You don’t think “singer” at this point, but that’s how she got her start in the business. That and being ditzy on TV. According to In Touch, which would have little reason to make up a story about Jessica Simpson because it’s not like she’s a huge draw, Jessica wants to return to music for the next stage of her career. She wants a lucrative deal in Vegas like Britney, Mariah and Celine. Nevermind the fact that she hasn’t put out an album since 2010′s Happy Christmas. Watch out, Britney Spears! Jessica Simpson is looking to revive her singing career by seeking out a Vegas residency, In Touch has exclusively learned. “She’s hell-bent on landing a Vegas residency,” a source reveals, explaining that Jess recently built a recording studio in her LA home and began working with top songwriter-producers like Linda Perry. “With state-of-the art technology and backdrops paired with her sex appeal, she thinks she can give the other headliners a run for their money,” says the source. “After 20 years in the music business, Jess is excited to follow her dreams and become a Vegas legend.” [From In Touch] Quick name one song by Jessica Simpson. You can’t, can you? The only thing that comes to mind is a video she did with Eva Longoria which involved roller skating. I can name more Paris Hilton songs (one) than I can Jessica Simpson songs. Googling “Jessica Simpson hits” brings up her remake of “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and such singles as 1999′s “I Wanna Love You Forever” and 2006′s “A Public Affair.” I guess that’s the video with Eva Longoria, but the song is completely forgettable. I just listened to it again and am reminded that it’s a ripoff of Madonna’s “Holiday.” If this is true, and Simpson wants a Vegas residency, she has to have songs that people want to hear, it’s not enough to be able to writhe around on stage. None of her music videos have over 5 million views on YouTube. This isn’t happening for her. Jessica’s last venture was a commercial for Budget rent-a-car. Is her clothing line not doing well? Last week The Enquirer reported that Jessica and her husband, Eric Johnson, spend $50,000 every month on food and drinks and “have cases of the finest wines and champagnes delivered to their home every week,” eat at expensive restaurants and “get deliveries from places like Little Dom’s or La Poubelle.” So maybe their spending is a issue. Update: Jessica’s rep denies that she’s seeking a Vegas residency. She is working on new music. Ashley Graham in Michael Kors at the CFDAs: gorgeous or tragic?
More photos from the CFDAs, which were pretty well-attended. And what’s shocking is that the attendees weren’t just the same old models – look at Ashley Graham, who is pretty much the It Model of 2016. Ashley has been everywhere this year, and I’m so happy that she got an invite to the CFDAs. Is it too much to hope that Anna Wintour would actually dare to use Ashley in a Vogue editorial? Ashley’s dress here is Michael Kors and she looks great. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also wore Michael Kors and she looks like a game show hostess. Literally, I think Vanna White has worn this. Julianne Hough in Michael Kors… is it wrong that I really like this? Tilda Swinton looks so comfortable. Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte. Kiki has gotten her sartorial mojo back in a big way post-Garrett Hedlund, but I’m not crazy about this – the off-kilter peplum is awful and the shoes are the worst. Alexander Skarsgard & Alexa Chung are still together but they didn’t walk the carpet together, for reasons. Alexa wore Tom Ford Prabal Gurung and it’s awful. That ruffle hurts my soul. Beyonce didn’t walk the carpet, but she came out to receive the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. And this is what she wore! She looks very Solange-y in this ensemble. Rihanna’s street style: are you feeling her ’70s-style Dolce & Gabbana caftan?
Here are some street-style photos of Rihanna out and about in NYC on Sunday. She was apparently running some errands or doing some shopping. This is how Rihanna “runs errands.” She wears a bright Dolce & Gabbana caftan, Stella McCartney platform shoes and no Dior sunglasses! Incidentally, that sunglasses-story last Friday has made me review my previous opinions on cheap sunglasses. Maybe I will try an expensive pair of sunglasses one day, just to see what they’re like. As for Rihanna’s D&G caftan… it’s summery, it’s beachy, it’s glam and like most of what Rihanna wears, it probably only looks good on Rihanna and no one else. Don’t get me wrong, I long for the day when “caftans-as-outerwear” makes a triumphant return. People always roll their eyes at ‘70s style, but I love the ‘70s look of caftans and prints. What I hate here is Rihanna’s shoe choice. Those Stella McCartney shoes are just THE WORST. Speaking of shoes, Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma is still going strong. Puma released their third collection with Rihanna a few days ago and the sneakers sold out in just 35 minutes online. I’m telling you, Rihanna has the Midas touch when it comes to style/accessories and more designers should pursue her for collaborations. Duchess Kate wore buttery Emilia Wickstead for her Bhutan arrival: lovely?

These are pics from the Duke and Duchess’s arrival in Bhutan today. For the plane exit (which I’m sure counts as an event for these two), Kate decided to wear an Emilia Wickstead coatdress in a muted butter yellow. The dress costs $169, because of course it does. While it doesn’t look like it was very windy today in Bhutan, I still think that someone got through to Kate and finally, at long last, convinced her to take precautions with her hems. Now if we could only get her to stop slouching. After the arrival, Will and Kate joined the Dragon King and Queen for a special reception in Thimpu Dzong, and Kate changed into another outfit – you can see the ensemble here. She paired a £340 Paul and Joe blouse – with a built-in cape – with a long, straight skirt that looked somewhat traditional for Bhutan. That was fine, I think. But she paired the ensemble with her nude court shoes and it just looked ridiculous. Update: here’s video of Kate walking in that Bhutanese inspired outfit. Jessica Biel in Roland Mouret at the Spirit Awards: fabulous or fug?
The Independent Spirit Awards are usually pretty loose and come-as-you-are, which means you usually don’t get Fashion Girls just showing up for the hell of it. Like, that’s what the Vanity Fair Oscar party is for. So I’m not entirely sure why Jessica Biel came out for the Spirits – she presented, but was she even IN a film in 2015? Let me check… yeah, she was, but no one saw her sad 2015 films. Still, Biel came out and she tried to “win” the fashion show in this Roland Mouret dress. If I’m being honest, I kind of like this. I love the colors, and I love the low-key vibe. I just want to rework it a little bit. The skirt should be longer and the top part needs to be a touch tighter, and she shouldn’t have tried to match her eye makeup to the dress. Also, check out her shoes! Rachel McAdams in Solace. God, I want her to look amazing at the Oscars. While this, to me, doesn’t make it up to “amazing” status, it’s pretty good. I like that she went for something slightly different, and this is the most I’ve ever like this shade of pumpkin.
