Did you guys know that Barack Obama hates ketchup? His hatred for the condiment has been documented for the past fifteen years. It feels nice to have this kind of low-stakes political scandal, right? “Donald Trump is a longtime associate of a convicted human trafficking rapist” versus “Obama has an abiding hatred for a popular condiment.” Back in 2011, Obama got in trouble (Obama-era trouble) for saying that no one should put ketchup on their hot dogs. He’s also anti-ketchup-on-eggs. But as Obama clarified in the recent interview on his wife’s podcast, he’s simply anti-ketchup for everything. He thinks the condiment is for children, and that adults should never willingly consume ketchup.

He knows it’s a controversial stance! Michelle even says that his age limit for “consuming ketchup” keeps getting lower. Now he feels like no one over the age of eight should use ketchup! The thing is, I agree with him slightly. I still like some ketchup on a hamburger, but that’s about it. Ketchup doesn’t go or shouldn’t go on hot dogs or French fries or eggs or whatever else. Plus, these days, there’s a whole big world full of amazing condiments. You know what I’ve been using more of as I get older? Garlic aioli. It goes with almost anything, you can use it as a dip or a sauce or a condiment. I also love tomatoes – instead of ketchup, just put actual tomatoes on whatever you were going to put ketchup on.

In January, Michelle Obama notably skipped two state events, events which she “should” have attended as the former first lady. She skipped Jimmy Carter’s state funeral and she skipped Donald Trump’s second inauguration. At both events, Barack Obama attended solo. He even sat next to Trump at Carter’s funeral, which is the seating protocol. After Michelle skipped those two events back-to-back, there were so many rumors about the state of the Obamas’ marriage and something something separate lives. Michelle later said/indicated that she skipped those events because of Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. Michelle feels like she’s earned the right to skip some of the state events now, especially because of Trump, and none of it is a reflection of her marriage. Well, these days, Michelle is doing a podcast with her brother Craig. This week, Barack was the pod guest. He and Michelle started joking about their faux-divorce right away.

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are addressing rumors about a divorce head-on in an episode of her podcast released Wednesday.

“She took me back!” Barack Obama said on the “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” podcast. “It was touch and go for a while.”

“It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together,” said Robinson, who is Michelle Obama’s brother, to the couple. Michelle responded, “I know because when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”

Robinson recounted a story when a woman at an airport approached him to ask about their marriage. “‘What did he do?’” Robinson said she asked him.

“These are the kinds of things that I just miss,” Barack Obama said. “So I don’t even know this stuff’s going on and then somebody will mention it to me and I’m like what are you talking about?”

Michelle Obama continued on saying, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I’ve thought about quitting on my man. And we’ve had some really hard times and we’ve had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”

I giggled at “she took me back!” I’m including the video below – Barry’s delivery is perfect, especially “it was touch and go for a while!” Yeah, they’re fine. I think they’ve also reached that stage in their marriage where they appreciate some time apart, but they still come together and enjoy being together most of the time. Anyway, remember when we had lovely people in the White House? Remember when Michelle planted a garden? Remember President Obama’s dad jokes every year at the turkey-pardon? *sobs*

Here’s a bit of tradition I didn’t know about art in the White House: the two most recent presidential portraits are typically displayed in the Grand Foyer. Up until Friday, the two portraits hanging in that designated spot were of Obama and Bush; Biden’s official portrait is not yet complete, and I believe they’re still sourcing all the orange oil paint for Trump’s. Unsurprisingly, the current president doesn’t feel beholden to courteous customs. As 45, the orange menace replaced portraits of Clinton and Bush with (very much not recent presidents) William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Now as 47, Trump has upped the ick factor by replacing Obama’s portrait with, I sh-t you not, a painting of Trump’s July 2024 assassination attempt. Aside from being generally appalled, Obama-era White House photographer Pete Souza noted that the new “artwork” gets a lot of foot traffic from public White House tours.

The White House swapped the official portrait of former President Barack Obama for a painting based on a photograph of the sitting President Donald Trump, after the July 2024 assassination attempt.

The portraits were swapped on Friday, April 11, per CNN. The new painting of Trump, 78, shows him raising his fist after a bullet grazed his ear at a rally in Butler, Pa., in July 2024, in an apparent assassination attempt. The swap was announced via the White House’s official social media account.

The replacement breaks the White House tradition, as it is customary to include the two most recent presidential portraits in the Grand Foyer, near the entrance of the executive mansion, so state guests and visitors can view them in a prominent location.

Since Trump and Joe Biden’s portraits are not yet complete, the two most recent presidential portraits on display were that of Obama, 63, and his predecessor, President George W. Bush.

Obama’s portrait is now hung across the Grand Foyer, where Bush’s had been hanging. Bush’s portrait was prematurely bumped out of the Grand Foyer and relocated to a different location next to the portrait of his late father, former President George H.W. Bush, per CNN.

…The move is reminiscent of Trump’s actions in his previous term, when he similarly replaced portraits of former Presidents Bill Clinton and Bush in the Grand Foyer. Instead, he opted to showcase former Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt.

…The artist behind the new painting of Trump has yet to be confirmed, though it is not his official White House portrait, which is normally ceremonially revealed in the years after leaving office. The new painting is based on photographs of the assassination attempt by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci and New York Times photographer Doug Mills.

Also, $10 that some office minions simply sent a press photo to one of those online sites that paintify an image for you. All to appease a lunatic with a huge ego and baby, er, fists. Well, another line crossed off Trump’s I Wanna Be A Dictator list: erecting tributes to yourself. And of course this isn’t the only bit of redecorating that DonDon has done — eagle-eyed fans of the Oval Office Swedish Ivy plant noticed in early February that the 60-year-old iconic greenery was missing from the fireplace mantle (and replaced with what else, a suite of gold objet d’art). Which led to another bit of White House history I didn’t know: the Swedish Ivy (which is actually more like mint than ivy, and from South Africa, not Sweden, but what’s in a name?!) was a gift from an Irish ambassador to JFK in 1961, where it has been displayed on the Oval’s mantle ever since. Since it grows so well, it’s been a practice for decades for little clippings to be given to staff, visitors, and more. I shudder to think where it is now. MAGA: Make America Green-less Again.

This is definitely one of the craziest rumors of the week. To be fair, the rumor started last year, but it’s gotten new life because of some recent wrinkles. Last year, In Touch Weekly published a story called “The Truth About Jen & Barack.” According to In Touch, Jennifer Aniston and Barack Obama were having some kind of torrid affair? Then Aniston appeared on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live last October, and Kimmel got her to debunk the story on-air. Aniston called In Touch a “cheesy tabloid” – so uncool! – and stated that she was not mad about the report but “that is absolutely untrue.” She also said that she’s only met Barack Obama once and “I know Michelle more than him.”

Well, all of that happened before Michelle Obama skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral and the inauguration, and Michelle’s husband attended both of those state events solo. This month, there’s been a lot of chatter about the state of the Obama marriage, and rumors are apparently flying around DC that a divorce might really happen. Then, this week, some rando on Twitter claimed that she heard something from one of Aniston’s friends that the Aniston-Obama “affair” rumor is true.

The divorce rumors of a romantic relationship between actor Jennifer Aniston and former President, Barack Obama, took a wild turn on Thursday when a user on X claimed that a leaked message, allegedly from a friend of Aniston confirming her relationship with Obama, had gone viral. Despite Aniston’s representatives denying it, the rumours have continued to swirl alongside speculations of a divorce between Obama and his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama.

In the alleged message, the friend claims that Aniston admitted the relationship in a casual conversation with friends. “He’s with Jennifer Aniston. My old manager, now a friend, is connected to her inner circle,” the alleged message read. “At a gathering with Jennifer’s friends, the affair came up casually—Jennifer herself admitted it. They were sitting with a psychic, which makes it sound surreal, but it’s definitely not a secret among her closest friends.”

Jennifer Aniston has addressed these allegations, firmly denying any romantic involvement with Barack Obama. She stated that she has only met him once and is more acquainted with Michelle Obama. Aniston’s representative also clarified that she does not maintain any personal friendship with Barack Obama, though she is a fan.

Yeah… I think this is all bullsh-t. Whoever is pushing it nowadays has made an effort to give it the whiff of believability, because Aniston absolutely would tell her goddess circle about something like this, and she absolutely would consult a psychic (and her therapist). I just don’t think there’s any affair between Aniston and Obama specifically though. It’s also curious to me that this rumor is being pushed so heavily by right-wing media figures. Is it projection about the state of the Trump marriage?

When Barack and Michelle Obama left the White House in January 2017, they decided to buy a place in Washington so that their daughters could finish high school with all of their friends. The Obamas bought a $8.1 million home in one of the ritzier DC neighborhoods and they gave their daughters that stability post-White House. Over the years, the Obamas have expanded their real estate holdings – they bought land in Hawaii and built a home there, and in 2019, they purchased an estate in Martha’s Vineyard. Once Malia and Sasha went to college, Barack and Michelle traveled more and spent more time outside of DC. I’m honestly not sure why they would even keep their DC home, since both of them reportedly prefer their other homes.

Anyway, the Obamas’ real estate and living situation has come up in recent days because of Michelle’s open refusal to attend the Trump inauguration. She made sure everyone knew about it and it unsurprisingly became a major story ahead of the inaugural. Michelle’s non-attendance also called attention to the constant rumors about the state of the Obama marriage, because Michelle also did not attend Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Sources close to Michelle insist that her refusal to attend these events is solely about her hatred for Donald Trump. And yet the “marriage trouble” rumors persist. Well, now Page Six says that there’s a lot of DC dinner chatter about the Obamas’ marriage too, especially because Michelle is never in DC anymore.

After weeks of speculation that the most famous marriage in politics was in trouble, Barack Obama posted a fawning tribute to the “love of his life,” Michelle Obama, in honor of her 61st birthday on Friday. “You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace — and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you!,” he wrote on Instagram, beneath a photo of the casually-dressed couple holding hands over dinner. “Love you, honey!” his wife quickly replied.

The former president, one of the most savvy political operators ever to take the Oval Office, posted the message amid rampant rumors that all was not well in his marriage. It began when former first lady Michelle failed to join her husband at Jimmy Carter’s funeral on January 9 — and heated up even more when it was announced she would not be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.

“You cannot tell Michelle what to do — no one can.” said a source who has worked with the Obamas, of her decision to skip the swearing-in.”That’s why she could not be persuaded to stump for Joe Biden during the last election.”

A high-society insider added that the topic “is getting a lot of DC peeps talking. The noise is getting louder. I’m told she was furious at seeing her husband yukking it up with Trump at the Carter funeral.”

But those who know the Obamas — who share two grown daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23 — say the couple have always made it clear their marriage is not a fairytale. “They don’t pretend that they have this Camelot relationship,” said the source who has worked with them. “They’re not trying to present that they’re this magical couple.”

Even so, Michelle has been “checked out” of DC life ever since the couple left the White House back in January 2017, according to a Beltway insider. That’s led to “certainly nonstop chatter that Michelle is fed up with the political circus, and pretending everything is OK with Barack all the time,” said the high-society insider. “What this will all lead to is to be revealed in time.”

While it’s been reported that the Obamas’ primary residence is in the Kalorama neighborhood of DC — where, in June 2017, they bought a home for $8.1 million — Michelle is said to spend a lot of time on Martha’s Vineyard, where they own a $11.75 million ocean-front compound. Another source confirmed that Michelle is “mostly Martha’s Vineyard, never in DC,” and multiple others said they had been on the island last summer without Barack and appeared “happy and content.”

I don’t know if Michelle has checked out of her marriage, but I guarantee that she’s checked out of DC and the world of politics completely. I would also believe that the Obama marriage is fine, but like a lot of empty-nesters, they’re enjoying their freedom now that their girls are grown, and maybe that freedom for Michelle is “not having to interact with the Trumps or any Republican.”

President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral was held on Thursday in Washington DC. All of the living former presidents and the current president were in attendance. Barack Obama drew the short straw and got seated next to Donald Trump’s rancid ass. Hilariously, almost no one else acknowledged Donald Trump’s presence, and absolutely everyone blanked on Melania Trump, who made a very rare public appearance alongside her husband. I don’t think George W. Bush even said hello to Trump. Kamala Harris seemed to give him a perfunctory nod. The Clintons also avoided the Trumps. Michelle Obama didn’t even go to the funeral – people said she stayed in Hawaii, which was a wise choice.

Mike Pence and his wife, Mother Pence (I never learned her real name) were also in attendance. It was possibly the first time Pence and Trump came face to face since January 2021 – they shook hands, and Mother Pence didn’t even stand up or acknowledge Trump in any way. Remember, Mother and the Pence daughters were with Mike Pence at the Capitol on January 6th. I think the MAGA mob would have tried to string up the women alongside Mike Pence, don’t you?

There were so many GIFs and notable clips of all of the interactions. I’m including some of my favorites below. I’m curious about what Trump said which made Obama laugh – I strongly suspect it was probably something about golf or maybe something about JD Vance. One of the funniest moments was George W. Bush greeting Obama with a quick belly tap. Dubya doesn’t get nearly enough sh-t for what he did in office, but I’ve always enjoyed the fact that he seems to have great relationships with the Clintons and Obamas.

President Biden spoke in the Rose Garden yesterday. I still haven’t watched his speech and I’m not going to. I saw someone say that he sounded fine and why did the party even make him drop out of the race. As I said previously, that will be one of the biggest political mysteries/what-ifs in modern American political history. What would have happened if Democrats had Biden’s back and they held strong with him, in the same way Republicans held strong and dumb for Trump for the past nine years? What if Democrats had a white man on top of the ticket, the same white man who is the only person to ever beat Trump? Well, there’s been a blizzard of postmortems from Democrats since Election Day, most of which are just idiotic, too idiotic to even amplify. But I did find this analysis interesting, from a former Biden staffer:

Barack Obama has been blamed for the Democrats’ election loss after “pushing” Joe Biden out of the white house. The outgoing president believes he was forced to step down from the race to challenge Donald Trump by Mr Obama, sources say.

“There is no singular reason why we lost, but a big reason is because the Obama advisers publicly encouraged Democratic infighting to push Joe Biden out, didn’t even want Kamala Harris as the nominee, and then signed up as the saviours of the campaign only to run outdated Obama-era playbooks for a candidate that wasn’t Obama,” a former Biden staffer told the Politico news website.

There is a sense that Mr Obama, who once brokered a deal to install Hillary Clinton as the Democratic candidate to face Mr Trump in 2016, has contributed to their party’s last two defeats, Mr Biden’s aides also told CNN. Mr Obama started quietly manoeuvring to pressure Mr Biden to drop his bid for a second term in office earlier this year amid questions over the president’s mental fitness. Sources said Mr Biden’s aides feel this was the wrong decision, just as when Mr Obama pushed for Mrs Clinton to be given the Democratic nomination.

Inside the Biden camp, there is now a feeling the president would have had a better chance of winning over white, working class voters, who ultimately opted for Mr Trump over Ms Harris.

I covered this as it unfolded over the summer – Obama and Obama’s former staffers were a huge part of the intraparty coup and the move to push Biden out of the race. Once Biden did drop out, Obama refused to endorse Kamala Harris for days until Democrats publicly called him out for his lack of support for both Biden and Harris. In those awful weeks in July, Obama could have calmed a lot of nerves across the board as a party elder, but instead he let it be known that he thought Biden should drop out and that Democrats needed a mini-primary, rather than supporting Kamala Harris. In the midst of all of that, Obama centered himself and told everyone that he saw himself as the uniter of the party, just as VP Harris was literally uniting the party behind her.
