About a month ago, Deborra Lee Furness issued a pretty ballsy public statement about the end of her marriage to Hugh Jackman. Hugh and Deborra separated in the fall of 2023, and it’s widely believed that they spent the better part of a year and a half negotiating their divorce after 27 years of marriage. I also believe Deborra made her statement after she and Hugh completed their divorce settlement negotiations and were waiting for the judge to sign off. The timing is important – it’s pretty reasonable to think that Deborra probably has to sign an NDA as part of the divorce, so her statement – in which she said flat-out that Hugh betrayed her – was a bombshell. Jackman and his team reacted poorly, and they furiously tried to clean up the mess. But it doesn’t change the fact that Hugh dumped his wife of 27 years for a married woman, Sutton Foster. Well, anyway, the divorce has been finalized.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness have officially finalized their divorce. Online court records from New York’s Suffolk County Supreme Court show that a judgment of divorce was filed on June 12, and later uploaded to the website on Monday, June 23. The case status is now listed as “Disposed.”

Furness, 69, filed for divorce from Jackman, 56, on May 27, roughly two years after the pair initially announced they had amicably ended their marriage in September 2023. Her divorce filing indicated the terms of their divorce were uncontested and would only need a sign-off from a judge.

After Furness’ divorce filing, she said in a statement that her “heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us. This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.”

“It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom,” Furness added in her statement.

It’s sad but I like that Deborra and Hugh took their time to really negotiate every part of their divorce, and apparently Deborra is getting a good chunk of the money and assets they built together. A few weeks back, there was a story about all of their property and how they’re divvying up their real estate holdings. It was widely rumored that Hugh would get their NYC penthouse, but it looks like Deborra actually bought him out of the property and now it’s solely hers. Too bad for Sutton, who reportedly wanted to move into the penthouse as soon as Deb moved out. I would guess that Deborra probably holds on to one of their properties in Australia too, don’t you think?

Last week, Deborra-Lee Furness officially filed for divorce from Hugh Jackman, roughly 20 months after they announced their separation. The divorce filing was a formality – Hugh and Deborra had already worked out the financial and real estate issues, either through mediation or simple negotiations with their lawyers. The big controversy was that Deborra made a public statement as she filed for divorce, in which she called out Hugh’s “betrayal” – the betrayal of carrying on with Sutton Foster, the betrayal of dumping his wife of 27 years for a married woman. Jackman was reportedly “extremely disappointed” that Deborra said anything at all, especially when her statement blew up his carefully crafted image as a wholesome, nice family man. Well, as I suspected, Deborra only released her statement because she knew the divorce would be finalized within a matter of days.

I assume the judge will sign off within the next week. People keep saying that Deb and Hugh worked out the financial stuff pretty easily. Apparently, Hugh is keeping their Bondi Beach condo AND their $21 million New York penthouse. Reportedly, Sutton Foster has already moved into the penthouse. There’s no mention anywhere of who gets their home in the Hamptons – I hope Deb kept at least one of the major properties? Additionally, the Mail reported that Deborra will receive a “handsome spousal support payment.” Which I hope is Britspeak for “a high-eight-figure divorce settlement.”

Meanwhile, Us Weekly had an exclusive about Hugh and Sutton. An insider told Us that Hugh “is still with Sutton, and they are trying to navigate this delicately. She has been very supportive….It’s hard to unravel 30 years of a relationship, so he is trying to handle it with as much dignity as possible. He wants to respect Deborra-Lee and not intentionally hurt her.” Too late, bro. I think she was pretty hurt when you began carrying on with Sutton.

The thing about Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness is that they were Australia’s golden couple for decades. Deborra was a famous actress within Australia when she met Hugh, who was at the time an up-and-coming talent but nowhere near as famous as Deb. When they got married, she pretty much retired from acting and she became a full-time mom and supportive wife to Hugh. Hugh and Deborra were friends with pretty much everyone in the Australian film/television/theater community. All of which means that Hugh and Deb’s divorce is huge news in Australia, a country with its own peculiar tabloid system. The Aussie tabloids are doing their own reporting on everything that’s gone down. Deborra issuing a statement about Hugh’s “betrayal” started all of this – the media can now freely report that Hugh left Deb for Sutton Foster, and they can position Deborra as a sainted and beloved figure who got dumped by Jackman (which is actually the truth, imo).

So, what’s the gossip in Australian media? There’s a lot of talk about money, and Aussie sources suggest that money was the biggest issue as Deb and Hugh negotiated their divorce. Reportedly, Deborra is happy that she is getting what she thinks she deserves, and she should have more than enough to support herself from here. Apparently, Hugh is keeping their New York penthouse, which has become a matter of contention because Hugh is apparently moving Sutton Foster into the penthouse. Reportedly, “Deb is shattered knowing Sutton is making the penthouse her own – the place she poured her soul into.” Meanwhile, never underestimate Jackman’s damage control. One of his friends conveniently gave an interview to an Australian radio show on Thursday:

While speaking on the Thursday, May 29 episode of Australia’s Ben Fordham Live breakfast radio show, Gus Worland — who said he’d known Jackman, 56, since kindergarten in 1973 — was asked about Furness’ statement, in which she reflected on the “breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage” and navigating the “traumatic journey of betrayal.”

The comments came after Furness filed for divorce on May 23, nearly two years after she and Jackman announced a seemingly amicable separation. TV and radio personality Worland said, “It’s not just that statement, but just the last couple of years have been difficult.”

“No one wants anyone to go through what they’ve been through, and, of course, they go through everything publicly because of the type of people and the fame that they have,” he added.

Worland, who said it was “a long, long time” that the couple were together, continued on the radio show, “I just go to the kids and go, ‘What can we do to make sure that they’re going to get through this as well as possible?’”

Anyway, the more damage control Jackman does, the sleazier I find him.

It’s clear now that Hugh was carrying on with Sutton Foster while they were both married to other people, and Hugh and Sutton have been doing a hard-launch of their relationship for months now. According to a report from The Daily Mail on Wednesday, May 28, an anonymous source told the outlet that Jackman, 56, was blindsided and “extremely disappointed” by Furness’ remarks. The source claimed that “there was an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press” and Jackman “knows that he cannot change anything.”

Reps for Jackman and Furness did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

Oh, HE was blindsided? HE was disappointed? HE expected Deborra to adhere to an “unwritten understanding” to maintain his wholesome image? Yeah, f–k that. I actually wonder if Deborra issued the statement when she did because of a possible NDA within the divorce settlement. The timing makes sense – once the divorce is finalized, she won’t be able to trash Hugh in interviews. Of course, Deborra could have been trashing him this whole time – I think she’s been very classy about how she’s handled everything.

In September 2023, Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness confirmed their separation. Going through our archives, I was surprised to see how quickly everyone figured out exactly what happened. There had been rumors about Hugh and Sutton Foster for so long, and a couple of months after Hugh and Deborra’s separation, the tabloids confirmed that Hugh was/is “besotted” with Sutton. Sutton ended up filing for divorce from her husband last fall, and then by January of this year, Hugh and Sutton were doing exclusive, coupled-up photoshoots for People Magazine. Well, now Deborra has filed for divorce and given an exclusive statement to the Daily Mail:

In case you missed it, they’re basically indicating that Deborra and Hugh have likely worked through everything in mediation, and the “filing for divorce” is just the official paperwork ahead of the divorce decree. Their divorce will probably be finalized in a matter of days, I’m assuming. Deborra issued a statement to the Daily Mail, and she spoke of “betrayal.”

It’s sort of slipped under the radar, but Deborra and her side have been consistently leaking versions of “Hugh betrayed Deborra, Hugh let her down, Deborra is very upset about his relationship with Sutton.” It absolutely felt like Hugh and Sutton left their spouses for one another, and Deborra was left reeling from it. I feel so sorry for her. I also wonder if all of their Aussie friends have taken her side? Like… I need to know how Nicole Kidman feels about this.

First they were friends and work colleagues, and then there were rumors of their extreme closeness right around the time when Hugh and Deborra-Lee Furness’s marriage fell apart in 2023. Sutton didn’t file for divorce from her husband until last fall though, so it’s possible she was trying to make it work with her husband for a while, even after Hugh left Deb. All I know is that the hard-launch of Sutton and Hugh came after more than a year of speculation. Apparently, Deborra had her suspicions all along, and she feels relief that Hugh is no longer gaslighting her about his thing with Sutton.

It wasn’t sadness, but relief that Deborra-Lee Furness felt when she saw pictures of her ex Hugh Jackman going public with his former co-star Sutton Foster. The Australian actress, 68, was married to the Hollywood star for 27 years before they announced their shock split in September 2023. Soon followed rumors that Jackman, 56, had embarked on a relationship with his The Music Man co-star, 49, who was married to her ex-husband Ted Griffin when the pair first started workshopping the Broadway production back in 2020. ‘Enough time has passed for Hugh to stop playing games and hide his feelings and his relationship,’ a second insider said. ‘They both wanted to be considerate of their exes and anyone else that might be upset, but they aren’t interested in hiding. Hugh’s close friends have seen a rejuvenated glow to him and that is all thanks to Sutton.’

They said Jackman and Foster bonded over their individual marital struggles but didn’t strike up a romance until he was ‘out of the heartbreak of his relationship ending.’

I said this before, but Hugh and Sutton’s work relationship-turned-romantic relationship definitely has the feel of something which began as an intense emotional affair and then got really chaotic. Chaotic enough to blow up both of their marriages. Emotional affairs are affairs, and yeah, I imagine that Deborra had strong suspicions for a while. Hugh probably told her that she was overreacting, that nothing was happening. I still wonder if Hugh’s nice-guy image and popularity will be affected.
