British reality star Vicky Pattison lets her dogs lick the inside of her mouth

I love dogs, as if you didn’t already know from the eleventynine articles I’ve written about them. They’re filled to the brim with personality, love, and an unerring ability to take up more than half the seat or bed you’re sharing, despite being a fraction of your size. I’d venture so far as to say that I like dogs more than any of the dogs I’ve lived with ever felt about their own species. My Girl was always supremely indifferent to any potential friend who showed interest, while My Guy hops into warrior mode, growling and going on his hind legs to paw at the air with his front legs, in a display that invokes more laughter than fear. Although I give my canine companions a lot of leeway, I like to think that I’m not too far gone in my love. Thankfully, British reality star Vicky Pattison has validated my point, by exhibiting behavior I would never ever do. She just appeared on a dog-centric YouTube show in which she let her dogs lick the inside of her mouth. Bad girl, Vicky!

A reality star left viewers horrified when she let a dog lick inside her mouth.

Vicky Pattison shared a joint Instagram post with Butternut Box, a pet food company, on Aug. 22. In a video, part of the brand’s new YouTube series, Walkies, Pattison, 37, could be seen letting a dog get a little too close for comfort.

Sitting outdoors, Pattison was joined by her dogs, Max and Milo, and another woman, when one of the canines approached the star and started licking the inside of her mouth.

“I’m so sorry,” Pattison — who is best known for her appearances in Geordie Shore, Ex on the Beach and Judge Geordie — said.

As the other woman admitted, “Thing is, I do that too,” Pattison cheered with excitement and added, “You know, it makes them happy.” She then leaned in for another kiss from the pup.

In the comments section of the post, many viewers were shocked by Pattison’s actions. “What. Did. I. Just. See ????,” one watcher wrote, as another Instagram user commented, “Can I unsee this?”

“I love my dogs like my kids but nooooooo I couldn’t ????,” added one more viewer, while another couldn’t help but make light of the moment, writing, “The dogs get better kisses than me ????????.”

Others couldn’t help but look at the situation from a health perspective. One user said in a comment, “I love dogs, but they can carry dangerous bacteria in their mouths.” Another added, “My dogs eat each other’s poop ????it’s a no from me ????.”

After seeing the backlash she was receiving, Pattison — who is also a radio presenter and an author — reacted.

“This did not go down well ????,” she teased in the comments section of the post, between more critiques being sent her way.

[From People]

Yeah, I’m with all the commenters who expressed a desire to “unsee” that image (which unfortunately is seared into my brain). It’s a step too far, for me. Granted, there are some things I indulge in with my dog of questionable sanitary health, namely letting My Guy (and My Girl before him) sleep in bed with me. Some of my animal-loving friends still wince at that, and I get it, but… snuggles! And yes, I let my dog kiss me — but on skin! My mouth is always closed, and snouts get rerouted when they try to invade the nostrils. I do that because I am the one in charge! That’s what gets me whenever a person says of their pooch, “it makes him happy.” So do any number of unsavory activities, that’s why they’re dependent on us to provide boundaries. My mother used to say that another dog in the family always greeted her with French kisses, to which I’d remind her, each and every time, “It’s only a French kiss if you open your mouth, too.” I suppose I’m a bit of a hypocrite in thinking that skin licks are that much more hygienic than open mouth ones, but that’s the level of cognitive dissonance that feels logical to me!

Tyra Banks eats in bed and will regularly eat days-old crumbs

Tyra Banks is the guest host on Today with Jenna and Friends this week. So far, she’s taken Jenna Hager Bush wig shopping, shared her FAFO style of parenting, confessed to getting her Victoria’s Secret Angel Card taken away, and given her mother a really sweet tribute that brought her to tears. One topic that they covered was so controversial that even Jenna couldn’t believe it. Tyra admitted that not only does she eat food in bed, but she’s also big on eating any days-old crumbs that she finds, whether it’s in her bed or on the floor.

Tyra Banks isn’t afraid to reveal her bedroom antics. While guest hosting the “Today with Jenna and Friends” broadcast on July 28, the model and “America’s Next Top Model” creator said she has no problem with eating in bed — and enjoying the leftovers days later. Banks, 51, confessed to eating crumbs from days-old popcorn while telling Jenna Bush Hager about her pastime of watching TV in bed with her mom.

“We do ice cream in bed; we do popcorn in bed. … The great thing is a couple days later…” Banks said as Bush Hager interrupted: “You do not!”

“A little bit,” Banks replied as she mimed picking up bits of popcorn and eating them. “Jenna, I clean crumbs by eating them. Because if you put them in the trash, you’re going to get roaches or something. So you just clean it up with your finger or you just eat it.”

“I’m not into eating in bed because I don’t like crumbs,” Bush Hager asserted.

It’s safe “if it’s on your ground. It’s your feet,” Banks argued. “I have a no-shoe rule in my home. So that I can eat off my floor.” She also delved into how long bits of food might be left before she gets around to eating them: “A few days if it’s not super perishable. Like a popcorn? That’s, like, astronaut food. It lasts forever.”

Banks then admitted that she is a “do as I say, not as I do” kind of mom. “I see my son do it, and I’m like, ‘Don’t do it.’ And he’s like, ‘Mama, you do it.’”

Banks shares a son, 9-year-old York Banks Asla, with former partner Erik Asla, a photographer. As the show cut to a commercial break, the two continued debating just how hygienic Banks’ antics are.

[From USA Today]

Yeah, no. I am on Team Jenna with this one. This is gross, right? You sleep in your sheets! As for eating off of the floor, I can adhere to the 30-second rule, but beyond that…even if you take your shoes off, your feet are still dirty from being inside of that shoe. And don’t get me started on what your feet are naturally exposed to if you’re wearing sandals. On Tuesday, I went into several airplane/airport bathrooms while wearing flip flops and had to take a shower when I got home, even though it was midnight. You also cannot catch every crumb! We have a very strict rule in my house that you can only eat at the table. The coffee table is only allowed on special occasions and you can never take food into your bedroom. Ahh, am I being too prudish? Now I don’t know!

Airplanes Hygiene Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams shares photo of another passenger’s bare foot on her first class flight

My mama raised me to always cover my feet while traveling by plane. Even if you’re wearing sandals, you’re allowed to commit the cardinal fashion sin under this one circumstance. Why? Hygiene!! I mean, in this day and age I don’t fly without a mask on, to protect others and myself. So the same principle applies for keeping your feet covered. Well, Michelle Williams just had to take a couple days off from her Broadway show, Death Becomes Her, to fly to Chicago for a family funeral. And someone was sitting behind her on the return flight — in first class — whose mama did not raise him the same as mine, because Michelle caught his bare foot touching the cabin wall. That they both touched. And Michelle was NOT having it! She snapped the wayward, unsocked foot in a post on Instagram to vent her vexations:

Michelle Williams is calling out bad plane etiquette!

On Saturday, April 5, the Grammy winner and Broadway star, 45, shared a picture on Instagram of a person sitting behind her on an airplane with his bare foot on their shared wall space.

“I PROMISE YOU BETTA GETCHO FOOT FROM ME!!!!! ????,” she captioned the post. “Y’all this is happening neowwwwwwww on my flight and I am crying real tears!!”

The Destiny’s Child alum detailed the situation in the comments section, writing, “For those asking……… YES I am sitting in the first class cabin…… a lot of AUDACITY resides in that booking class…… OBVIOUSLY!! #seat3F the f is for feet ????.”

Williams added in another comment: “I elbowed ‘it!’ Now I gotta take my coat to the cleaners.”

The singer continued to speak out about the shocking experience. She posted a video the next day in celebration of being out of the situation. “I made it out. I made it out,” she sang to the camera while wearing a black sweater and green cap.

She explained that she was flying back to New York City after having traveled to Chicago for a loved one’s funeral. She was due back in the Big Apple to perform in her Broadway show Death Becomes Her.

“It tried to take me out,” Williams said of the experience in the video. “I said, ‘Wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait a minute.’ You ever think you see something out of your peripheral and you just blow it off?”

The singer noted that she was in disbelief when she looked down and saw the foot.

Williams added that the behavior is inappropriate, regardless of what class one is flying in. “It don’t matter to me what class you fly. I don’t care. I still like Southwest. You’re not going to shame me into whatever class it was. So, people are like, ‘Well, you shouldn’t have been flying coach.’ I was flying first class. My seat was 3F and I didn’t know the ‘F’ was gonna be for feet. I just can’t,” she said.

Later in the video, Williams expressed joy over having “made it out.”

She said, “I almost was defeated. All is well. I made it back to New York City… Listen, y’all, I was crying real tears. I was crying real tears.”

[From People]

That follow up video Michelle recorded — that she captioned “UNDEFEETED” — is hilarious! (And destined to be performed by a drag queen as a lip synched monologue in a club near you soon.) Michelle is shook by that foot! The near brush with phalanges had her singing gospel to celebrate her deliverance once she made it home! LOL. As I said above, I’m in full agreement with Michelle when it comes to the health and hygiene of this situation (or lack thereof), and I personally always travel in socks and sneakers. I think the entire cabin of a plane should be a no-bare-feet zone, and I would probably be extra peeved if I encountered one after splurging on first class. I don’t think the unwanted experience would lead me to religious song, but I guess that’s the difference between me and Michelle. Also, couldn’t a flight attendant have stepped in? Nicely and discretely?

Hygiene John Oliver Lawsuits

John Oliver sued for defamation by a healthcare executive he called out

YouTube Thumbnail of John Oliver's Last Week Tonight from the episode aired on April 14, 2024 about Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations. Video is below

Here’s a motto to live by: don’t do your job in such a way that John Oliver would devote a segment to it on Last Week Tonight. Regrettably, Dr. Brian Morley did not heed these words. A year ago, Last Week Tonight aired a main story about Medicaid fraud. Part of the story focused on patients being forced from Medicaid to managed care organizations (MCOs), and the ways MCOs find to stop providing coverage they deem too expensive (regardless of the need). In that reporting, Oliver quoted Dr. Morley from a 2017 hearing in which the doctor offered his opinion on cleanliness standards, specifically as it would apply to a patient seeking in-home care. Oliver confirmed that he had seen the testimony in full, so as to verify the context, and then proceeded to offer his own inimitable, colorful opinion on the doctor’s words. Now Dr. Morley is suing Oliver and his producing team for at least $75,000-worth of defamation… for quoting Dr. Morley’s own words. Read them and judge for yourself:

“Defendants falsely told millions of viewers of their show, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, that Dr. Morley testified in a Medicaid hearing that ‘he thinks it’s okay if people have sh*t on them for days,’ intentionally leading viewers to believe that Dr. Morley made these alleged statements about — and illegally denied Medicaid services to — a young man who has severe mental impairment, was harnessed in a wheelchair, wears diapers, and required in-home bathing and diaper changing because he could do neither himself,” reads a jury-seeking lawsuit against Oliver and Last Week Tonight producers Partially Important Productions.

Filed last week in New York federal court, the complaint from Dr. Brian Morley, the ex-medical director of health insurance corporation AmeriHealth Caritas adds of the April 14, 2024 Last Week Tonight episode examining Medicaid fraud and Managed Care Organizations: “Defendants’ false accusations were designed to spark outrage, and they did. The false accusations Defendants made were so heinous that John Oliver felt justified in telling his millions of viewers: ‘f–k that doctor with a rusty canoe. I hope he gets tetanus of the balls.’ Oliver’s feigned outrage at Dr. Morley was fabricated for ratings and profits at the expense of Dr. Morley’s reputation and personal well-being.”

…“Defendants knowingly manipulated Dr. Morley’s testimony and then knowingly manipulated the context in which they placed it such to convey the defamatory meaning,” the filing asserts, with receipts, as the kids say.

Potentially putting a First Amendment defense at risk for Oliver and Partially Important, said receipts in the filing include a screenshot from the episode of Morley’s remarks at the hearing.

On the show, Oliver exclaimed: “Look, I’ll be honest, when I first heard that, I thought that had to be taken out of context. There is no way a doctor, a licensed physician, would testify in a hearing that he thinks it’s okay if people have sh*t on them for days. So, we got the full hearing, and I’m not gonna play it for you, I’m just gonna tell you: he said it, he meant it, and it made me want to punch a hole in the wall.”

And here is Dr. Morley’s full quote, that his own lawyers included in the suit filing:

“In certain cases, yes, with the patient with significant comorbidities, you would want to have someone wiping them and getting the feces off. But like I said, people have bowel movements every day where they don’t completely clean themselves and we don’t fuss over too much. People are allowed to be dirty. It’s when the dirty and the feces and the urine interfere with, you know, medical safety, like in someone who has concomitant comorbidities that you worry, but not in this specific case. I would allow him to be a little dirty for a couple days.”

[From Deadline]

How can this doctor possibly think that seeing the entire statement exonerates him? Or explains the context? The context is the same! He’s saying it’s A-OK for people to go a few days with feces unwiped from their bums, including those who are physically unable to clean themselves. I rewatched the clip (it starts around the 19:30 mark), and the only possible misunderstanding Dr. Morley could argue is that Oliver covers a specific person whose case Dr. Morley did not literally testify about. But in introducing Dr. Morley, Oliver clearly says the upcoming statement was made about a “similar” case, not the one they’d just shown. Sure, the disclaimer goes by quickly, but it is most definitely there. Given the intimate, if much-aggrieved, relationship Oliver has had with his lawyers throughout the 10 years of Last Week Tonight, I have faith in his team that they wouldn’t have aired the segment exactly as they had, if it hadn’t been thoroughly vetted. So take a seat, Doc. And wipe your damn ass!

Zac Efron’s brother Dylan admits he rarely showers and doesn’t use soap

A couple times a year, we get this insane news cycle that involves famous people proudly admitting to their poor hygiene habits. The latest celeb to admit to their filth is Dylan Efron, brother to Zac. Dylan, who is currently competing on Season 3 of The Traitors, was doing the rapid-fire questions segment on the Are You Okay? show when he was asked to name something that he found to be overrated. Dylan’s answer? ”People take too many showers.” He also doesn’t think people need to put soap on their bodies every time they shower, either. Ummm…

Dylan Efron, Zac Efron’s younger brother and star of The Traitors season 3, has a hot take on personal hygiene. Dylan, 33, shared his thoughts during some rapid-fire questioning while appearing on the interview show Are You Okay? In a clip, which was posted on the show’s official Instagram on Friday, Feb. 28, the reality star admits that he thinks showers are “overrated.”

“I think people shower too much,” he says, adding, “We take way too many showers. I go in the pool a lot. Like, there’s chlorine — it’s killing everything.”

When the show’s host points out that you can’t scrub yourself clean in a pool, Dylan replies, “We don’t need to soap our bodies every time we’re in the shower, either. That’s way too much!”

A number of people in the comments section were quick to voice their displeasure with Dylan’s answer, with one writing, “I want to go back to a time I didn’t hear this take on too many showers ????.”

Another commenter chimed in: “He doesn’t shower, he’s NOT okay.”

During his Are You Okay? appearance, the travel influencer also shared his most “controversial” food opinion: “I do not like croissants,” he declares in the clip.

And when it comes to something Dylan considers underrated?

“This is so corny,” he says with a sheepish smile, before continuing: “Watching more sunsets. Every time I see a sun[set] I run outside and try to watch it.”

[From People]

Oh. My. God. Well, clearly, he is wrong here, lol. If you watch the video clip (also below), the host cringes when he gives that answer and explanation, too. You don’t need to shower because you spend a lot of time in swimming pools and therefore, the chlorine does the job for you? Too much chlorine isn’t great for you either, dude. It irritates your eyes and dries your skin out! You gotta wash that sh-t off. Chlorine also smells so bad. Well, technically, not bathing also smells bad, too. Does he smell himself? How do you get to be 37 years old and not understand the basic principle of how soap and water works? The soap is what kills the germs, ya knucklehead. I am with him on the sunsets thing, though. I’m also totally that person who has to stop, stare at, and comment on a good sunset every time I see one. But you know what makes a sunset even better? Watching it with someone who is properly bathed.

Bryan Adams Concerts Hygiene

Giant wastewater blockage causes Bryan Adams to cancel Australian show

Canadian singer Bryan Adams had to cancel an Australian show for a really crappy reason. Was it because he injured himself falling through one of Oz’s notorious trap doors on stage? No. Was it because he was bitten by a random bat while performing? Still no. Was it because Madonna was running two hours late again? No source has confirmed that. Nope, Adams had to cancel his Sunday concert in Perth thanks to fatbergs. The official term used by professional waste management systems is taken from icebergs, only instead of made of glacial ice, the mounds are comprised of fat, grease, and rags (think wet wipes) that block the natural flow of things. Perth Water Corporation crews worked tirelessly to try and avert a cancellation. But in the end the fatbergs won the day, and Adams was forced to put a plunger in the proceedings or else risk it becoming a literal sh-t show. CNN had coverage of this overflowing situation:

A giant fatberg forced Bryan Adams to cancel a concert in Western Australia on Sunday night after authorities warned it could cause the venue’s toilets to overflow, posing a potential health risk.

The sold-out show at Perth’s RAC Arena was called off just hours before the Grammy award-winning singer was due to perform on his “So Happy It Hurts” tour, disappointing thousands of fans, as workers scrambled to remove pools of water near the venue.

“Water Corporation crews are working to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which has caused several wastewater overflows” near the arena, the water company said in a statement.

“People should avoid contact with any pooled water … as it may be sewage.”

Adams apologized to fans for the short-notice cancellation.

“I’m really sorry we couldn’t make this happen tonight — I was so looking forward to seeing you all,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday. “I appreciate your patience and support and can’t wait to be back and play for you as soon as we can reschedule.”

Show organizers promised refunds for ticket holders, adding that the cancellation was out of their control.

“Last night’s concert could not proceed due to an external Perth Water Corporation issue, which was unable to be fixed in time,” booking agent Frontier Touring said Monday in a Facebook post, adding it was deemed “unsafe for patrons to enter RAC Arena.”

“The cancellation of (the) show is bitterly disappointing, and we thank fans for their understanding that while every effort was made for the show to proceed, this matter was outside of the control of Bryan Adams, Frontier Touring and RAC Arena,” the post said.

But the explanation came too late for frustrated concertogers, who said they were left waiting for hours outside the venue before the show was called off, public broadcaster ABC News reported.

“It was obvious early afternoon that there was a serious issue,” said one commenter on Facebook in reply to the booking agent’s post. “Disgraceful to make people stand outside the venue for hours before making the decision.”

Another user said: “Devastating … 15,000 people waiting on the streets for hours.”

…Fatbergs (the word is a portmanteau of fat and iceberg) form over time as items that can’t be broken down are flushed or washed down drains instead of disposed of correctly.

[From CNN]

Well there you have it, folks. Take the extra time to ensure you’re depositing waste in the proper place — the fate of artists touring depends on it! (And let’s face it, thanks to skyrocketing ticket prices, that industry is already circling the drain.) And yes of course, the issue is larger than concerts being canceled last minute after tens of thousands of patrons stood outside in 80-degree heat (it’s summer Down Under!) in what was likely a malodorous venue. And it’s already a global issue: CNN reported on a 330-ton, half-mile-long fatberg that clogged up the pipes of Birmingham, UK in 2021 for weeks! When that incident occurred, local water management advised to “leave leftover cooking fat to cool” before throwing it out in the trash, in addition to what they coined as the Three P’s of Flushing: pee, poo, toilet paper (my fourth P: points, for trying to make that alliteration happen).

Ok, I’m ready to close the lid on this for now. Aside from being a topic with yucky imagery, I do believe I’ve flushed out all the puns I possibly toilet. I mean can!

Should you go barefoot at home or wear socks or slippers?

Last month we talked about the common habit in Australia of walking around barefoot. Everyone had strong opinions in the comments and I loved it! Some Aussies weighed in saying, “What’s the big deal, mate?” while other of their countrywomen were like, “How dare you, I wouldn’t be caught dead!” Elsewhere there were Americans voicing fright over Australian snakes and spiders, which was rebutted with assertions that though Aussie snakes are some of the most poisonous, many of them have poor injection mechanisms, and anyway they don’t have the type of venom that leads to limb amputation, so there! And one of the biggest counter-arguments was, “But what about Americans wearing shoes indoors?!?!” So in the name of science (and my anarchistic drive to incite heated yet friendly debate), let’s dig into that, shall we? HuffPost has helpfully consulted with doctors who were largely in favor of going barefoot indoors, over wearing socks and slippers:

A podiatrist on the pros: “I’m a big advocate for going barefoot at home,” [clinical podiatrist Dr. Robert] Conenello said. “[The practice] increases intrinsic muscular strength within the feet.” He explained that the primary benefit of walking barefoot is the reinforcement of the muscles in the feet, which tend to weaken “as we age and wear shoes.” These muscles are closely linked to our overall mobility, so their deterioration can contribute to reduced movement as we get older.

A dermatologist on the pros: Dermatologist Dr. Hannah Kopelman … also mentioned that going barefoot at home can have some unexpected benefits for the skin on your feet. “Walking barefoot at home … allows your skin to breathe, which can help prevent moisture buildup and reduce the risk of fungal infections like athlete’s foot,” she explained. … “Feeling the texture of different surfaces underfoot can be grounding and relaxing, almost like a mini reflexology session,” Kopelman said. “For those without underlying skin or foot conditions, this can be a natural way to connect with your environment and promote mindfulness.”

Barefoot living requires clean floors: One potential downside of walking barefoot indoors is the increased exposure to irritants or allergens on the floor, such as dust, pet dander or cleaning chemicals, as Kopelman pointed out. For individuals with sensitive skin or chronic conditions like contact dermatitis or eczema, this could be a significant concern. While Conenello acknowledges similar risks — such as stepping on pathogens like fungi in moist environments — he is quick to emphasize that “proper hygiene can help mitigate these risks… Wash your feet frequently, dry them thoroughly and moisturize,” he advised.

Accidents can happen: Other painful risks associated with going barefoot include the potential for slipping on slick or wet surfaces, or stepping on something hard and sharp that could cause injury. As anyone who has ever stubbed a toe or accidentally stepped on a Lego can attest, such incidents can be excruciating. Kopelman points out that individuals with diabetes or poor circulation are more vulnerable to severe consequences, as “even a minor foot injury can lead to serious health issues.”

There is a risk of muscle & joint issues: Kopelman also noted that, while walking barefoot can help strengthen muscles, the repeated practice of doing so on hard surfaces could potentially lead to foot fatigue or plantar fasciitis, a condition where the tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes becomes inflamed. “Over time, the lack of cushioning can put stress on the joints, especially in those who already have foot or joint issues,” she explained.

What about socks? According to Conenello, “there is nothing wrong with wearing socks.” They’ll simply decrease the benefits associated with being barefoot. “There is now a filter between the ground and the foot,” he said. Kopelman added that socks can offer “minimal protection from minor abrasions or allergens while still allowing your feet to feel relatively free.” Direct contact with surfaces that may harbor bacteria or irritants is also minimized when wearing socks.

[From HuffPost via Yahoo]

As an adult in my own home, I’ve always taken my shoes off at the door and changed into house slippers that never leave the confines of the apartment. But I don’t wear the slippers when lying in repose sitting on my sofa. And sometimes I do pop up and move around barefoot, but in my head I always think, “Drat, I should’ve put my slippers on!” So maybe I should just let that voice go? And yes, staying on top of personal and environmental hygiene is the foundation for good health. As for socks, I’m usually too hot to bother with them — the sandal-free Northeastern winter months are a real struggle! But in a strange twist of fate, this holiday season I was gifted no fewer than four pairs of fuzzy socks. One pair is even meant to be worn instead of slippers, with grips on the bottom. Getting one pair of socks as a gift was, well, disappointing. Two was kind of funny, in an ironic way. But with four I have to wonder if the universe is trying to tell me something…

In any event, let the discourse commence!
