Snoop Dogg complains about LGBTQ+ families in kids’ films: threw me for a loop

Journey with me for a moment to the not-so-distant past, June 2022 (I know, if only). Pixar released Lightyear, a Toy Story prequel that told the tale of the “real life” Buzz Lightyear. This was a movie primarily made for children, but it was a small-minded subset of adults who threw a hissy fit. What was the problem, Houston? Well, one of the main characters was a woman married to another woman — GASP! — and in a montage sequence there was a brief kiss between the spouses. Pixar’s parent company Disney tried to cut the scene, but Pixar’s staff and the film’s stars stood tall against the Mouse and the scene was kept intact. And Snoop Dogg has been “scared to go to the movies” ever since!! At least that’s what he just said on the It’s Giving podcast. Snoop took his grandson to see the movie when it came out (wink!) and was entirely flummoxed on how to discuss a same-sex relationship with the kid.

Snoop Dogg says he’s “scared to go to the movies” due to what he perceives to be an increase in LGBTQ representation in children’s films.

“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” he said on a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast.

The rapper and pop culture personality described taking his grandson to see 2022’s Lightyear, and being shocked to discover that one of the animated film’s protagonists has two mothers.

“They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”

Snoop recalled thinking, “‘Oh sh–, I didn’t come in for this sh–. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.’”

But his grandson pressed on, asking, “‘They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby?’”

The rapper reflected that the experience “f—ed me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of sh– that I don’t have an answer for.”

“It threw me for a loop. I’m like, ‘What part of the movie was this?” Snoop continued.

The “Gin and Juice” rapper and The Voice coach elaborated on his reluctance toward LGBTQ representation in films like Lightyear, saying, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Snoop for comment.

…The comments by the 53-year-old rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., have led to calls for him to be replaced as the headline entertainer at the upcoming Australian Football League’s Grand Final. The rapper has previously been criticized for homophobic and transphobic remarks, such as calling Caitlyn Jenner a “science project,” and using an anti-gay epithet in a 2014 Instagram caption.

[From EW]

Sigh. Taking it sentence by sentence: “These are kids.” Yes, the little sponges who aren’t born hating people but have to be taught that kind of behavior. “We have to show that at this age?” I went to school with the same core group of kids from age two to 14. One girl in this group had two moms. I can’t remember any instance, not one, of there being confusion over the situation. We were like, “Jessica has two moms. OK!” Again, see earlier comment on kids having to be taught certain behaviors. “They’re going to ask questions.” Isn’t that pretty much all kids do? Until they become teenagers and then don’t speak for five years straight? “I don’t have the answer.” That’s on nobody but you, Calvin. I did a little snooping (I will never surrender my right to pun!) and found that Snoop is likely referring to his oldest grandchild, who would have been seven at the time. I already knew a lot of gay people at that age, but obviously people are raised in different backgrounds. This kid did exactly what he was supposed to do — he asked a question. It was the adult who didn’t meet the moment.

As of this writing, the Australian Football League hasn’t made any announcements/changes re Snoop Dogg, BUT they’ve already suspended one athlete this week for using a homophobic slur. Also, the It’s Giving podcast has cut Snoop’s Lightyear comments from their YouTube post of the episode. Guys, it’s so much easier NOT being a bigot, I promise!

Canada, Australia, and Brazil issue statement supporting LGBTQ rights, US absent

Happy Pride, y’all! I hope everyone celebrated with joy, good hydration (this heat is a bitch), and a healthy dose of anger. Because while we were all marching forward in our celebratory parades, our country, under current mismanagement, has undoubtedly been operating according to the principle of one step forward, eleventy billion steps back. From Day 1 of this dumpster fire of an administration, Trump has been most loudly anti-trans, but still an equal-opportunity hater towards all but white, hetero, cis, males. To him there is no rainbow, he sees but one color: orange. So under the stewardship of Captain Crook and his Crew of Bigots, the US was notably absent from cosigning a statement in support of Pride Day this year. Canada and Australia signed, as did many countries in Europe and South America. But nope, the US sat this one out. Not feeling too proud of my country right now.

The foreign ministries of Canada, Australia, Brazil and a host of European countries issued a statement on Saturday celebrating LGBT rights to coincide with Pride Day.

The United States, which has moved rapidly to dismantle civil rights protections since the election of President Donald Trump, was not among its signatories.

The statement, whose backers also include Spain, Belgium, Colombia, Ireland and other nations, said the countries “are speaking and acting as one to champion the rights of LGBTQI people,” using the abbreviations for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people.

“At a time when hate speech and hate crimes are on the rise, and in view of efforts to strip LGBTQI people of their rights, we reject all forms of violence, criminalization, stigmatization or discrimination, which constitute human rights violations,” the statement said.

It was not immediately clear why the United States was absent. Canadian, Australian, Brazilian, Irish and U.S. officials did not immediately return messages seeking comment on the Pride Day statement and Washington’s absence from it.

The U.S., once a champion of gay rights abroad, has reversed course under Trump, whose administration has rapidly dismantled longstanding civil rights protections for LGBT people and expelled transgender servicemembers from the military.

Defenders of gay rights are concerned that the backsliding will embolden anti-gay movements elsewhere, especially in Africa, where it could worsen an already difficult situation for LGBT people.

Trump’s right-wing allies have tapped in to anti-LGBT sentiment to shore up their political support.

In Hungary on Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters flouted a law passed in March by Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government that allows for the ban of Pride marches. The demonstrators swarmed Budapest with rainbow-colored flags in one of the biggest shows of opposition to the Hungarian leader.

[From Reuters]

I couldn’t stomach watching all of Trump’s ABC News interview with Terry Moran, the one to mark 100 days (of hell). But one moment I saw has really stayed with me, because it was a soul-crushing instance of being in agreement with the Mango Menace. Terry was grilling Trump on Kilmar Abrego Garcia and the extreme/illegal deportations going on, and Terry relayed that a lot of Trump’s own supporters were shocked by the actions and saying, “What a minute, I didn’t vote for this.” Trump’s response was, “Actually, they did vote for this.” Just as a broken clock is right twice a day, so was Trump on the agreeable side of truth with that answer. Everyone who voted for Trump, voted for the cruelty, the bigotry, and the ever-pervasive stupidity. We knew this is what he’d do; we knew it would be just as incompetent as the first sentence term, but 10 times as sinister. And here we are. When this post goes up, the Republican-led Senate will be in vote-a-rama mode for Trump’s bigly budget bill, which will bigly raise the national debt by $3.3 trillion over the next 10 years, while simultaneously cutting funding to countless lifesaving programs, including many that are LGBTQ focused. Like I said above, I’m more than a bit short on country pride, just in time for the Fourth.

Pedro Pascal calls anti-trans author a ‘heinous loser’ for celebrating ruling

As if we needed further proof that we’re living through the worst timeline, last week the UK’s Supreme Court rendered a f–ked up ruling on a case brought by a Scottish anti-trans group. The be-wigged judges unanimously decided that the term “sex,” as used in the Equality Act from 2010, was “binary” and meant gender at birth. The real world ramifications of this mean that countless British trans women have been stripped of their rights, not to mention their dignity. The British anti-trans campaign was supported publicly and financially by a wealthy English author, who boasted about the ruling in a cocky Twitter post. She put that up on social media, and social media is clapping back at her hateful views. Among those who’ve recently called her out is espresso junkie and fierce trans ally Pedro Pascal, everyone’s favorite Zaddy. And yeah, Pedro read her for filth, in under 10 words, in a comment on Instagram:

Pedro Pascal isn’t mincing words when it comes to his thoughts on J.K. Rowling’s support of an anti-transgender ruling in the U.K.

The Last of Us star, 50 — whose sister Lux Pascal, came out as transgender in 2021 — recently shared a comment under an Instagram video criticizing Rowling, 59, who celebrated the U.K. Supreme Court’s April 16 ruling that transgender women should not be recognized as women under Britain’s Equality Act.

In the Instagram video posted by activist Tariq Ra’ouf, he explained Rowling’s role in the ruling — as she financially backed the campaign group For Women Scotland, which brought the legal challenges to court — and called for a boycott of “Harry Potter-related” projects and experiences.

Ra’ouf also called out her recent post celebrating the ruling with a cigar and drink in hand on X, as she wrote: “I love it when a plan comes together. “SupremeCourt #WomensRights.”

In response, Pascal wrote under the video: “Awful disgusting SH– is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior.”

The actor, who has long been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community and has publicly supported his sister Lux’s transition, doubled down on his support for the group attending the U.K. premiere of Marvel’s Thunderbolts* in London Tuesday, April 22 while wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the message “PROTECT THE DOLLS.”

The T-Shirt is a part of a larger campaign by American designer Conner Ives. Ives, 28, designed the piece to call attention to the global anti-transgender sentiment that trans women are experiencing in several countries. “Dolls” is an affectionate term coined by the LGBTQ community to refer to transgender women.

Pascal frequently shows public support for Lux’s transition, and she has accompanied Pascal to several red carpet premieres. Lux is an actress and activist who graduated from The Juilliard School in New York City in 2023.

The U.K.’s recent ruling is a controversial one, as it allows for single-sex services to exclude transgender women. The U.K. government said the ruling brought “clarity and confidence” for women and service providers, per The Athletic.

[From People]

I was so happy when Labour finally won a UK election, but Keir Starmer and his government can choke on a crumpet for commending this ruling’s “clarity and confidence.” May their cups of tea henceforth forever be oversteeped. And speaking of steeping, you really have to stoop to the lowest of humanity to provoke such a biting reaction from lovable, soft, endearing Pedro Pascal. He’s always been an ally, even recently responding to trolls on Instagram who wrote nasty comments to a pro-trans post of his. But in those cases, Pedro’s clapbacks were all sassy, sarcastically deflating the trolls with superbly deployed kiss and manicure emojis. So for Pedro to outright call Rowling a “heinous LOSER,” well that muggle better watch out, cause I feel like a hex from Pedro will stick.

Lastly, Pedro’s t-shirt game really has been on fire lately. He donned an “ADULT CONTENT” tee by late trans artist Pippa Garner at Jimmy Kimmel last month. And wearing “PROTECT THE DOLLS” in the UK right after this ruling is exactly the energy we all need to bring right now. More dolls, less trolls, please.

Careers LGBTQ Nathan Lane Television

Nathan Lane: ‘Homophobia is alive and well still’

My mother will only part with her cable DVR — with its perk of being able to fast-forward through commercials — when she parts this earth. She does have a smart TV, though, but the only streaming app she’s connected to so far is Netflix. Cue the text I received from her Monday night: “Do you get Disney and/or Hulu? Can I piggyback on it/them? New Nathan Lane comedy from Will & Grace producers. Already dubbed the gay Golden Girls!” The show is Mid-Century Modern, it stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham as single gay friends living together in Palm Springs, and yes, the creators literally pitched it as “the gay Golden Girls.” All 10 episodes will be on Hulu this Friday; I’ll be on site at my mother’s the night before to set her up with my account so she can tune in (though I have yet to break it to her that she’ll have to suffer through ads, except she does read this blog… surprise!). Vanity Fair just interviewed Nathan Lane to hype the show:

He expected more film work to come after The Birdcage: Movies were just to pay the bills so I could keep doing theater. Then The Birdcage came along. I thought perhaps because of the success of that, it’d lead to other films, but then it didn’t. I really didn’t. I said to my agent, “I thought more would happen after The Birdcage.” He said, “Maybe if you weren’t so open about your lifestyle, it would have.” … Yeah—and he was an old queen telling me this. So I left him. Mike Nichols sent me to CAA.

He was up for Wayne Knight’s role in Space Jam? Apparently the director [Joe Pytka] saw me hosting the Tony Awards and thought that suggested I was too gay to play the part. So thank God, I didn’t have to do Space Jam. [Laughs] But I don’t know. I’ll never know what people say. Homophobia is alive and well still.

LOL: It started as the “gay Golden Girls,” then suddenly I was the only Golden Girl. Once they brought up Matt Bomer, I was like, “Oh, so what am I? His f–king grandfather?”

On the years between projects with Ryan Murphy: I had a great time, and then I didn’t hear from [Ryan] again. So I just thought, oh, well, I’m not going to become part of that repertory company. Then I heard that he wanted me to play Dominic Dunne, and we finally had a phone call. I said to him, “Ryan, I really want to become the new Sarah Paulson. I want to be your muse.”

The show sounds delightful: The fun thing about the show is that it’s a throwback to those shows we grew up on, and yet it’s sort of a contemporary version of that—it’s fresh and naughty and it’s nice that it’s about three older gay men navigating problems of the world, in their world. What happens now, it’s out of my hands, but I hope that people will like it. I think we’re going to need to laugh. We’re in a bad situation right now.

His assessment of Trump 2.0: I don’t see anybody stopping him. It’s nice to know that there are people protesting. I think some of the old white people—not a lot, but some of those people—who voted for him are regretting it. There’s a little bit of implosion going on, but it’s not stopping him. … I mean, there’s just no Republican Party anymore. It’s just this cult, and they’re terrified of him. They do whatever he says. It’s unbelievable ‘cause he’s a f–king moron. But shrewd in his way. You can’t help but be reminded of Germany in the ‘30s, that he’s convinced the majority of this country that he cares about them.

[From Vanity Fair]

Wow, that’s a lot to digest. We almost had a world where Nathan Lane was in Space Jam!! But no really, I was impressed by Nathan in this piece, and these were only a few excerpts. He comes across as a consummate performer and professional, and a sharp and insightful person. I’m sorry to say that I’m not at all surprised he experienced rampant homophobia in Hollywood, even from other gay people. His talking about The Birdcage reminded me of how kind costar Robin Williams was, deftly deflecting questions to protect Nathan when he wasn’t ready to come out. It also reminded me that I’m due for a rewatch, only now we’ve lost director Mike Nichols, Robin Williams, and Gene Hackman. Those are all big losses! And along these sad lines, Mid-Century Modern also stars theater great Linda Lavin, who passed away during filming. She plays Nathan’s mother, and he paid a lovely tribute to her in this interview.

My mother and I are rooting for this show! We need the laughs and gay characters front and center now more than ever. Let’s make Nathan Lane the new Sarah Paulson, lol.

Bowen Yang Lady Gaga LGBTQ Music

Bowen Yang told Lady Gaga her music helped him come out after conversion therapy

I really have to thank Lady Gaga for timing the release of Mayhem to line up perfectly with my already-scheduled vacation. Thanks, Mother! I listened to the album all the way through, on repeat, for the duration of the flight, and the music set the scene for a blissful week away from the worst timeline we’re all living through. Having also listened to Gaga on the Las Culturistas podcast, it seems that was always her intention with Mayhem — to make people smile, and to let the acknowledgment of our own chaos serve as a pathway to healing. Right from the get-go, it’s abundantly clear that hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are stoked and perhaps more prepared for a guest than they’ve ever been before, being dedicated little monsters themselves. And the fangirling reached its emotional peak about an hour in when Bowen shared that the release of “Born This Way” helped him come out after he’d gone to conversion therapy. Naturally, Gaga was very moved by the revelation:

Bowen Yang has made it clear that he is indeed a little monster, the moniker that supporters of Grammy-winning artist Lady Gaga have claimed.

Yang had his chance to tell Gaga just how meaningful her music and her advocacy is for the LGBTQ community — which he is a part of — when she appeared on a recent episode of his and Matt Rogers’ podcast “Las Culturistas.”

During the episode, the “Wicked” and “Saturday Night Live” star spoke about how important one Lady Gaga song in particular has been to him in his own journey.

“I think I had come out of the closet again when ‘Born This Way’ came out, because I went to conversion therapy, (which) obviously did not work out,” Yang said.

He went on to recount the day the 2011 track was first released as a single, while he and Rogers were en route to a comedy festival in New York State.

“We were just blasting that song for 48 straight hours,” he added, before Rogers chimed in saying that Yang “felt emboldened to come out that weekend.”

Clearly moved, Lady Gaga said, “That’s really, really special.”

“You’re so important to a huge swath of people who only want the best things for you and for each other,” Yang gushed to Lady Gaga. “But also, those people need leadership and you’ve always been that leader culturally, artistically, in so many ways.”

Gaga, who released her seventh studio album “Mayhem” earlier this month, said she was appreciative of that sentiment but that it’s more important to her to just “do my part.”

“I believe that we will continue to show people that are filled with hatred and ignorance that they should be looking up to the queer community and following and learning about love, and learning about grace, learning about kindness,” Lady Gaga said.

“I really believe that,” she said, “and I’m not giving up.”

[From CNN]

I said it last week, and I’ll say again that I’ve found Mayhem to be a really emotional listen. All of us little monsters have been on this journey with Gaga, too (albeit from the cheap seats), and it’s cathartic to hear how she’s found a way to put all the pieces together into a creation that is uniquely her. During the podcast, Bowen and Matt are clearly ready to heap similar adoration on Gaga, but I was so impressed with how she took in the praise. She’d accept it graciously, if briefly, and always redirect to bring it back to her fans. When they ask her their signature question of when she knew she was part of the culture, she said she had few friends in high school, but the ones who did welcome her were gay, and she remembered that when the same community emerged as her biggest fans. She embraced them immediately, saying (I’m paraphrasing): “You were there for me then, I’m here for you now.” She also several times notes that she firmly believes her career and artistry are built on the stories fans and collaborators continually share with her, stories like Bowen’s.

If only she’d quit with that god-awful wig!! I could even take the bleached eyebrows, but the wig must be burned, along with most of her look for recording the pod: all black clothing, including leather gloves (they’re inside), a furry jacket, and a knit cap. It’s like she came dressed as Boris AND Natasha.

Pedro Pascal responds to ‘vile, small, pathetic’ anti-trans trolls

Pedro Pascal is a national treasure. Nay, global! Whether he’s adorably melting with gratitude over being gifted a plushie, getting choked up over recognition from his peers, or giving right back when playfully antagonized by Kieran Culkin, Pedro effortlessly exudes an authentic, endearing charm. The only minor critique I can think of to say of him, is that his method of learning lines errs on the side of “serial killer writes his manifesto in code.” But just because he’s a good egg, doesn’t mean he won’t bite back, particularly when you come for people he loves. Sadly, protective Pedro had to come out this weekend. Pedro posted a picture on his Instagram of a sign that says, “A world without trans people has never existed and never will.” Naturally, the trolls came out to denounce the sentiment and declare they were no longer fans of his. Pedro’s responses were sassy perfection:

Over the weekend, Pedro Pascal won widespread praise when he shared a pro-trans rights message to his Instagram account, which has more than 8.8 million followers. At a time when transgender people are having their rights stripped away, Pascal used his platform to showcase his support as he posted a photo of a sign that read: “A WORLD WITHOUT TRANS PEOPLE HAS NEVER EXISTED AND NEVER WILL.”

“The Last of Us” star doubled down in the post’s comments, where he wrote: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.”

Pascal’s stance is perhaps unsurprising, considering he has always vocally supported his younger sister, Lux Pascal, who publicly came out as transgender in February 2021 in a cover story for the Spanish-language magazine Ya.

…And his most recent post isn’t the first time that Pascal has expressed his support for the LGBTQ community as a whole on social media either, with the star regularly posting during Pride months, as well as sharing a photo of the Progress Pride flag in March 2023, when trans rights were, once again, under attack.

Despite this, some of Pascal’s followers were not happy with his latest trans rights post and felt the need to let him know about it in the comments — where Pascal had the most perfect responses. Replying to one person who wrote: “You were my favourite actor… I’m unfollowing you… Bullsh-t,” Pascal sarcastically replied: “noooooooooooo ????”

“Man you were one of my favorite actors until this… ????,” somebody else wrote, to which Pascal quipped: “that’s too bad. Wait, no I don’t give a sh-t.”

And when another user commented: “That’s going to be an unfollow,” Pascal casually replied: “later, gator!”

Another troll wrote: “Gay sh-t ????????????????,” and Pascal sent back “????????????????,” and when somebody else added: “unfollow ????????????????,” Pascal took it in his stride and simply wrote: “bye!” before adding the disco dancing emoji.

Needless to say, fans have been left obsessed with Pascal’s sassy responses and took to a Reddit forum to heap praise on his no-nonsense pro-trans stance. One of the top comments simply reads: “‘noooooooooooo ????’ is iconic,” to which somebody else agreed: “Right??? I love it so much.”

“God, I love him. These people aren’t only vile, but they’re incredibly stupid, Pedro is very close with his sister and has always been outspoken about transgender rights,” another redditor wrote.

[From HuffPost]

Yes, Pedro is close with his sister — he even skipped a 2023 Cannes premiere of his film to attend her Juilliard graduation, and she was his date to the London premiere of Gladiator II last year. But what’s great about Pedro is, you just know he’d be an ally with or without having a direct family connection. He’s here to love and support fellow humans! Yet he won’t waste time or energy on those who spew hate, except for posting quick comments back to let the trolls know they can’t dampen his day. As if to say, “Hey, this is your problem, not mine.” What a mensch, with just the right amount of spice. This man must be protected at all costs!! Especially now, as I’m writing with what remains of my psyche after having just watched the current president’s joint address to congress, during which Sleepy Mango heinously attacked trans people. If we’re to survive all this, we need more men to take after Pedro.

Hunter Schafer’s passport was changed to male when she got it reissued

Hunter Schafer is so ethereally stunning. If I were a producer on Amazon’s The Rings of Power, I would be bending over backwards to write a new elf character just to cast her. (And if Hunter does show up in season 3 — Amazon, I’ll accept payment in mithril.) Hunter was at the Spirit Awards last Saturday as a leading performance nominee for her indie horror film Cuckoo. While walking the blue carpet, Hunter chatted with E! about some news she’d broken on TikTok the day before. In a candid eight-minute video, Hunter explained that she’d just received her reissued passport, after losing it last year and completing all the necessary paperwork. Paperwork where Hunter clearly checked off her gender as female. She was aware of Trump’s inauguration day executive order insisting that government agencies only recognize gender assigned at birth, yet also knew that Trump blusters a lot. In her own words, Hunter thought: “I’ll believe it when I see it.” Yeah, well, she saw it on her new passport, which changed her gender to male.

Hunter Schafer is finding power in her voice.

After the Euphoria star revealed that her new United States passport listed her gender as male despite holding female-marked government documents for years, she shared why she decided to speak out.

“It was a sort of spur-of-the-moment thing,” Hunter exclusively told E! News on the Film Independent Spirit Awards red carpet Feb. 22. “I’m still processing what’s happened. But in the moment, I felt like it was important to share what was going on.”

The 26-year-old, who came out as transgender in the ninth grade, shared the update in a Feb. 21 TikTok Story after receiving her new passport.

“To specify,” she added, “my gender marker was first changed in my teens when I first got my driver’s license and then my passports following — all have been female since then.”

Hunter said that when she applied for a new passport after losing her in Spain last year, she marked her gender as female on the application. However, she revealed that when it was picked up, “the marker was changed to male.”

While Hunter stressed that her TikTok video wasn’t posted to “create drama” or “receive consolation,” she believed it was “worth posting the reality of the situation.”

The Cuckoo actress’ news comes one month after President Donald Trump signed a Jan. 20 executive order requiring agencies to only recognize genders assigned at birth. A spokesperson for the State Department told E! News in a statement that “due to privacy laws and restrictions, we do not comment on specific cases.”

However, the representative added, “The Department is implementing the President’s Executive Orders and executing on administration priorities. We are only issuing U.S. passports with a male or female sex marker that matches the applicant’s biological sex as defined in the Executive Order.”

But Hunter emphasized that she doesn’t “give a f–k that they put an M on my passport.”

She asserted, “It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness.”

[From E! News]

I understand Hunter wanting to diffuse the Trump administration’s power to hurt her, when she says she doesn’t “give a f–k that they put an M on my passport.” But how could she not? Less than a year ago, Hunter was speaking to GQ about wanting to let her body of work and success act as her trans advocacy, more than literally speaking about it in every interview. She’s fought so hard to become who she knew she was, and now she just wants to be. She probably could’ve taken that path had things gone differently in November. But they didn’t, and I think Hunter decided to make the TikTok video — which I’m so glad she did — because she realizes that living through this administration demands visibility, if not screaming from the rafters. She said “I’ll believe when I see it,” when it came to Trump’s worst promises. Sadly, I think that also goes for a lot of Trump voters (to be clear, I’m not saying Hunter is one). Now that everyone is seeing it, the question is: what are we doing about it? To quote Jane Fonda’s barn-burning SAG speech, “This is not a rehearsal.”
