Bad Bunny Ciara gabrielle union Halle Berry Hunter Schafer Met Gala

Halle Berry wore LaQuan Smith to the Met Gala: what in the world is this look?

I hate to say this because I usually think so highly of Halle Berry’s beauty and style, but I absolutely loathed Halle’s Met Gala look this year. Halle is all about the history of Black fashion and Halle IS part of that history. She could have done so many different things with the theme, and instead, she wore this LaQuan Smith which is… just bad. It’s unflattering, the design itself is not good (to put it mildly) and Halle – one of the most beautiful women in the world – looks tired, drawn and cartoonish.

Ciara & Russell Wilson- she also wore LaQuan Smith. I thought they were one of the best coordinated couple-looks. They looked amazing.

Hunter Schafer wore Prada and she was widely cited as one of the best on-theme looks of the night. She really worked this!!

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, both in Prada. I feel like they could have and should have gone even bigger here. This feels so subdued.

Hunter Schafer’s passport was changed to male when she got it reissued

Hunter Schafer is so ethereally stunning. If I were a producer on Amazon’s The Rings of Power, I would be bending over backwards to write a new elf character just to cast her. (And if Hunter does show up in season 3 — Amazon, I’ll accept payment in mithril.) Hunter was at the Spirit Awards last Saturday as a leading performance nominee for her indie horror film Cuckoo. While walking the blue carpet, Hunter chatted with E! about some news she’d broken on TikTok the day before. In a candid eight-minute video, Hunter explained that she’d just received her reissued passport, after losing it last year and completing all the necessary paperwork. Paperwork where Hunter clearly checked off her gender as female. She was aware of Trump’s inauguration day executive order insisting that government agencies only recognize gender assigned at birth, yet also knew that Trump blusters a lot. In her own words, Hunter thought: “I’ll believe it when I see it.” Yeah, well, she saw it on her new passport, which changed her gender to male.

Hunter Schafer is finding power in her voice.

After the Euphoria star revealed that her new United States passport listed her gender as male despite holding female-marked government documents for years, she shared why she decided to speak out.

“It was a sort of spur-of-the-moment thing,” Hunter exclusively told E! News on the Film Independent Spirit Awards red carpet Feb. 22. “I’m still processing what’s happened. But in the moment, I felt like it was important to share what was going on.”

The 26-year-old, who came out as transgender in the ninth grade, shared the update in a Feb. 21 TikTok Story after receiving her new passport.

“To specify,” she added, “my gender marker was first changed in my teens when I first got my driver’s license and then my passports following — all have been female since then.”

Hunter said that when she applied for a new passport after losing her in Spain last year, she marked her gender as female on the application. However, she revealed that when it was picked up, “the marker was changed to male.”

While Hunter stressed that her TikTok video wasn’t posted to “create drama” or “receive consolation,” she believed it was “worth posting the reality of the situation.”

The Cuckoo actress’ news comes one month after President Donald Trump signed a Jan. 20 executive order requiring agencies to only recognize genders assigned at birth. A spokesperson for the State Department told E! News in a statement that “due to privacy laws and restrictions, we do not comment on specific cases.”

However, the representative added, “The Department is implementing the President’s Executive Orders and executing on administration priorities. We are only issuing U.S. passports with a male or female sex marker that matches the applicant’s biological sex as defined in the Executive Order.”

But Hunter emphasized that she doesn’t “give a f–k that they put an M on my passport.”

She asserted, “It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness.”

[From E! News]

I understand Hunter wanting to diffuse the Trump administration’s power to hurt her, when she says she doesn’t “give a f–k that they put an M on my passport.” But how could she not? Less than a year ago, Hunter was speaking to GQ about wanting to let her body of work and success act as her trans advocacy, more than literally speaking about it in every interview. She’s fought so hard to become who she knew she was, and now she just wants to be. She probably could’ve taken that path had things gone differently in November. But they didn’t, and I think Hunter decided to make the TikTok video — which I’m so glad she did — because she realizes that living through this administration demands visibility, if not screaming from the rafters. She said “I’ll believe when I see it,” when it came to Trump’s worst promises. Sadly, I think that also goes for a lot of Trump voters (to be clear, I’m not saying Hunter is one). Now that everyone is seeing it, the question is: what are we doing about it? To quote Jane Fonda’s barn-burning SAG speech, “This is not a rehearsal.”

Demi Moore Elizabeth Olsen emma stone Fashion Hunter Schafer Independent Spirit Awards Lily Gladstone Mikey Madison

Mikey Madison wore Calvin Klein as ‘Anora’ won big at the Spirit Awards

The Independent Spirit Awards were held this weekend and they were another shock to the system. You have to understand, throughout the month of January, everyone thought that Emilia Perez, The Substance and The Brutalist were about to win everything. Instead, it’s looking like Anora is the little indie that could, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Anora was one of my favorite films of the year (along with Dune 2 and Conclave), and I love that Neon’s quiet little Oscar campaign ended up working so well. At the Spirit Awards, Anora picked up Best Feature, Best Director and Best Lead Performance (to Mikey Madison). Kieran Culkin won Supporting and Jesse Eisenberg won Best Screenplay (both for A Real Pain). So… Anora is going into the Oscars with a sh-tload of momentum.

Fashion-wise, it was a pleasant awards show. They do the Spirits in a tent by the beach, and more people wear business-casual. Some fashion IDs: Mikey wore an okay Calvin Klein. Emma Stone wore Emilia Wickstead, or at least that’s what several sites are claiming (I think she’s actually wearing Louis Vuitton). Hunter Schafer in Prada (love it), Elizabeth Olsen in Erdem (it’s fine but her hair is terrible these days), Demi Moore in Thom Browne (meh), Natasha Lyonne in Rochas (bonkers boots), and Lily Gladstone rewearing an Agnes Seaweed Wisden chestplate. Also: Marianne Jean-Baptiste wore Antonio Marras.

Emma Stone wore Louis Vuitton to the ‘Kinds of Kindness’ Cannes premiere

It’s hard to believe that Emma Stone is now a two-time Best Actress Oscar winner. And yet, it’s not that hard to believe. Emma is widely considered to be one of the best actresses of her generation, and the fact that she’s leaned into making (and producing) weird, arty, offbeat films adds to her allure. Speaking of, Emma was in Cannes to promote Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness. She’ll probably get another Oscar nom out of it, all things considered. Emma delivered at the Cannes premiere, wearing a rich-looking Louis Vuitton (she’s a brand ambassador). I honestly love the dress, which surprises me. I think this is a very good look overall for Emma, but I wish she would have “dressed it up” a little bit more. Bigger earrings or half an arm full of bracelets.

Emma’s costars were there as well – Hunter Schafer wore Armani Privé and Margaret Qualley wore Chanel. I love Hunter’s dress, it’s structural in a cool way.

Lily Gladstone sort of needed some structure – this Balenciaga was too much of a sack dress! She looks amazing in that saffron color though.

Look at Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wearing yet another completely bonkers Falguni Shane Peacock gown. I love this absolutely silly energy.

Demi Moore wore Armani Privé – really blah, right?

Eva Green – who is on the Cannes jury this year – wore Iris van Herpen. No, this is too much??

Uma Thurman wore Burberry to a different Cannes premiere (Oh, Canada). Satin is so difficult and the sheath dress could have fit a bit better.

Zendaya & Jennifer Lopez looked cartoonish at the PFW Schiaparelli show

Fashionistas yell at me when I share my thoughts about Schiaparelli, but I can’t help myself: this stuff might be beautifully constructed, but the looks are always completely tragic and unflattering. I get why fashion girls wear Sciaparelli and why it must feel like you’re wearing a challenging piece of avant-garde art, but I’m simply too much of a traditionalist, I guess. Why would you wear some dumb sculptural piece which makes you look like an alien, when you could just wear some basic-bitch flattering gown?

Anyway, these are some photos from Monday’s Schiaparelli show during Paris Fashion Week. I was surprised to see two headliner celebrities attend the show: Zendaya and Jennifer Lopez. J.Lo is a traditionalist – she loves Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Versace. Why Schiaparelli? Why THOSE glasses? Why that hair??? Speaking of bad hair, check out Zendaya. When I use the phrase “bangs trauma,” this is what I’m talking about. I’m sure it’s a wig or hairpiece, but we’ve finally answered the question of “can Zendaya pull off any look?” No, she cannot. I’m also surprised to see her at this runway show, given the fact that she signed an exclusive contract with Louis Vuitton.

Bonus: Hunter Schafer got the best Schiaparelli, honestly. There’s like one good idea in a collection full of bullsh-t – the stand alone gilded lily, unattached to the dress. People would love to just buy that one piece and wear it as jewelry.

Ayo Edebiri Bella Ramsey Brie Larson Fashion Golden Globes hailee Steinfeld Hunter Schafer

Ayo Edebiri wore Prada & a great bob to the 2024 Golden Globes: lovely?

The 2024 Golden Globes fashion wasn’t terrible, honestly. There weren’t many people wearing completely bizarre or terrible looks. Mostly, people played it very safe and there were a lot of very clean, streamlined styles. Speaking of, the ladies in Prada looked very good. Ayo Edebiri – who is currently ubiquitous – wore a great and simple red Prada look and she picked up her first Golden Globe for her supporting role on The Bear. People in the room were so happy for her and everyone loved her shout-out to her managers’ and agents’ assistants. Also: her bob is SO CUTE!

I liked Brie Larson’s dress a lot and I usually don’t like what she wears. She looked ladylike and sort of vintage, which goes along with what she was nominated for (Lessons in Chemistry).

Hailee Steinfeld did a very Audrey Hepburn look and it worked, although everyone does this Holly Golightly-inspired look at least once.

Bella Ramsey kept it simple. I enjoy their commitment to wearing pants to big events.

Hunter Schafer looked lovely in her Prada gown. This probably didn’t photograph as well as it looked in motion.

Did Gigi Hadid get the ‘best’ of the Prada looks at the 2021 Met Gala?

Celebrity Departures for the Met Costume Gala from The Mark Hotel

Gigi Hadid wore Prada to the 2021 Met Gala. This is her first gala since giving birth last year – I actually think we’re coming up on Khai Malik’s first birthday?? Which is cool. Gigi has been back to work since her maternity leave, but it doesn’t feel like she’s in our faces, which is nice. I also like her gala ensemble and styling. I mean, she’s not there to reinvent the wheel, and she basically just went with a nice gown with a corset. She did try to mix it up with a spectacular red wig though. It suits her! She should definitely dye her hair red, it looks great.

Rita Ora & Taika Waititi, both in Prada. If you watched the Vogue livestream, you probably noticed two things: one, Taika was hammered and two, Rita’s dress did not fit at all. It looked like she got the sh-t off-the-rack in a size too big. Rita seems to like Taika a lot but he seems to be… I don’t know, in his f–kboy feelings these days.
