The 2024 Golden Globes fashion wasn’t terrible, honestly. There weren’t many people wearing completely bizarre or terrible looks. Mostly, people played it very safe and there were a lot of very clean, streamlined styles. Speaking of, the ladies in Prada looked very good. Ayo Edebiri – who is currently ubiquitous – wore a great and simple red Prada look and she picked up her first Golden Globe for her supporting role on The Bear. People in the room were so happy for her and everyone loved her shout-out to her managers’ and agents’ assistants. Also: her bob is SO CUTE!
I liked Brie Larson’s dress a lot and I usually don’t like what she wears. She looked ladylike and sort of vintage, which goes along with what she was nominated for (Lessons in Chemistry).
Hailee Steinfeld did a very Audrey Hepburn look and it worked, although everyone does this Holly Golightly-inspired look at least once.
Bella Ramsey kept it simple. I enjoy their commitment to wearing pants to big events.
Hunter Schafer looked lovely in her Prada gown. This probably didn’t photograph as well as it looked in motion.

Cardi B is such a fashionista. She loves going to fashion shows, she loves walking red carpets and she especially loves the Met Gala. Cardi changed her look like four times at this year’s Met Gala, but for most of the carpet, she wore this Thom Browne Chen Peng look which was clearly based on the entire aesthetic of Karl Lagerfeld as a person and his designs. I loved how many women did variations of “interpreting Karl Lagerfeld’s look,” rather than grabbing a Chanel frock. There was so much ingenuity at play with how people interpreted the theme.
Janelle Monae wore Thom Browne (Cardi did too, in a different look). The fashion critics were going crazy about this but I find it… surprisingly unremarkable? There was the hooped “costume,” and then she removed various parts of the costume to reveal a sheer hoop skirt, and her bra and panties. Lady Gaga did something similar one year.
Olivia Rodrigo in Thom Browne. I love this? It’s great, minus the baby-bangs. That was a (terrible) trend last night too – so many baby bangs.

I’ll follow CB’s lead and use she/they pronouns for Bella Ramsey, who is non-binary, but has no preference for pronouns. They do have some food preferences, though, and that’s what we are here to discuss. Specifically, her choice of cereal and orange juice. While playing The Last Time I… with costar Pedro Pascal for The Hollywood Reporter, she admitted her last meal was a bowl of cornflakes with orange juice. Bella, a vegan, explained that a while ago, there was no milk they could drink, so they’d used orange juice on their cereal, and have loved it ever since.
Bella Ramsey has dished about an unlikely breakfast combo.
In a January chat with The Hollywood Reporter, the Last of Us star — who was being interviewed alongside on- and off-screen pal Pedro Pascal — revealed that the last meal they had was cornflakes “with orange juice instead of milk,” adding, “It’s so good.”
“There once wasn’t milk that I could drink, there wasn’t oat milk or almond milk, so I just tried orange juice — years ago,” explained the actor, 19.
“And you loved it,” said Pascal, 48, before “proudly” sharing that his own last meal was toast.
“And I loved it!” Ramsey confirmed. “And it’s been a thing ever since.”
“How is it on your tummy?” Pascal asked sincerely, with Ramsey responding about the improvised meal, “Actually fine.”
I’ve heard of eating cereal with orange juice before. I’ve not tried it, but it doesn’t automatically turn me off. Bella cited a cereal with strawberries in it and strawberries and orange juice taste good. I have a friend whose dad used to make pancakes with orange juice instead of milk as a special treat. She swore by them. So depending on the cereal, I’d at least try the orange juice thing. Although I understand Pedro’s question about how her stomach reacted with the juice, OJ can be acidic. Although there’s something about an adult like Pedro saying the word “tummy” that does turn me off. That’s not what we mean when we call you Daddy, dude.
The interview is quite sweet. It’s clear Bella and Pedro have as much of a bond offscreen as they do on. I am not a fan of zombie films/shows but was convinced by enough people to watch The Last of Us. It didn’t make me a fan of the genre any more than the rest, but the acting is good. I love Bella and Pedro. And even without trying it, I can tell you that I far prefer Bella’s OJ and cornflakes to anything they’ve eaten on the show.
Bella Ramsey, 19, is phenomenal on The Last of Us with Pedro Pascal. That show was addictive and it’s one of the first shows I’ve wanted to watch every week in a long time. (Luckily Ted Lasso is back now though.) Bella is nonbinary, which I didn’t realize until I read their recent profile in GQ UK. When I first read the article, it was written with they/them pronouns for Bella, but when I revisited it the pronouns were changed to she/her. There’s an explainer that Bella doesn’t care which pronouns are used and “elected to use she/her for this interview.” (I’ll strive to use she/they here.)
To GQ UK, Bella talked about the hate people gave the show online, particularly for the queer storylines, and about the negative comments about her appearance. It’s disappointing, but not surprising. They also mentioned what a great set The Last of Us is, and how they feel protected by the other actors and showrunners. That really comes through when you watch it. Pedro Pascal was supportive
Pascal, whose sister is trans, was “super supportive,“ says Ramsey. The two of them had many conversations around gender and sexuality. “And they weren’t always deep: they could be funny and humorous, the whole spectrum. We were just very honest and open with each other.”
On their identity
“This is what bothers me more than pronouns: being called a ‘young woman’ or a ‘powerful young woman’, ‘young lady,’ but I’m just not [that]… Catherine Called Birdy, I was in dresses. Young Elizabeth, I was in a corset. And I felt super powerful in that. Playing these more feminine characters is a chance to be something so opposite to myself, and it’s really fun.”
On criticism for the show’s gay storylines
“I’m not particularly anxious about it. I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out. It isn’t gonna make me afraid. I think that comes from a place of defiance.”
On how great it is to work on The Last of Us
“I mean, season one really was the best year of my life,” she says. “As the episodes come out, [they] bring back such good memories. I am nervous, of course. [But] I’m so excited to get the chance to do that again… I love it so much. And the people: Craig, Pedro. I want to spend all my time with them.” She describes them as a “safety blanket,” before taking a moment. “I’ve gained two fathers, in a way.”
I wish there was a way to protect younger actors particularly from all the BS and negativity online. I’ve been online since the Internet started and I do this job without tying it to my identity yet the criticism can still get to me. I can’t imaging how hurtful it would be to read all that trolling directed at me personally. It sounds like Bella has a good support system to deal with it. I look forward to seeing more of them because I can’t look away when Ellie is on screen.
The casting on this show is incredible! The leads are great of course but also the secondary characters, particularly Ellie’s love interest Riley (Storm Reid) and the capsule episode love story with Bill and Frank (Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett). Oh and I’m still mad about Henry and Sam (Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard)! They didn’t have to follow the game so closely with all the plotlines, you know?

The more we hear about Pedro Pascal, the more he seems like an awesome person. He’s gracious, he’s a good ally and he can act. You truly care about his characters on The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, where you can’t even see his face. I’ve been watching The Last of Us and while I know his character likely survives*, it’s stressful seeing the things that Joel and Ellie go through. I’m avoiding spoilers from the video game, but people who played the game have a good idea how it’s going to turn out. Sony, the parent company of Playstation, has an interview with the video game creators, the shows executive producers and stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. My favorite bit was when Pedro explained how he told his sister, who was on bluetooth in her car, that he was in talks for the role and his nephews freaked out and told him he had to get it. The video also features previously aired scenes from the show which mirror the video game. Here’s some of what they said in the interview, and you can watch it below.
Showrunner Craig Manzin on casting Pedro Pascal as Joel
Part of our job as casting is to find people that don’t have to work very hard to embody a character. We knew we wanted somebody that projected a certain kind of strength, that kind of paternal energy, but also, underneath it, a pain. And something in the eyes that was sort of undeniable. That’s an interesting combination of somebody that can do terrible violence, and can go into a red mist, but then also has just such a wellspring of emotion and humanity.
Pascal on telling his sister about the job
It was a fascinating 24 hours. I don’t know if you guys recall. Where we met, talked, and then decided we would be doing this together. And, I called my sister within this short window to tell her about this job that I wanted really badly, and she was in the car driving my nephews to school, and I was on speaker, and I didn’t even know that they were in the car. I was like, ‘I’m having a conversation about this amazing job. It’s based on a video game, actually, and it’s called “The La-.”
And then, Bruno and Pedro were like, “The Last of Us?” You have to get this job! Mommy, pull over!

I also think that’s why fans are so protective of these characters, because they’ve been those characters.
Can you imagine what a cool uncle he is? He’s on the Mandalorian AND The Last of Us. My son didn’t play that game as he didn’t get a Playstation until later, so I’m not familiar with the story beyond the basics. There are some scenes that come across like a video game, but they’re not distracting. Maybe it’s just hard for me to watch it without applying that filter to it. For what it’s worth, most fans of the game seem to approve of the adaptation and viewers love it and aren’t complaining that it’s adapted from a game. The only thing that bothers me is how brutal it is to supporting characters, the NPCs in the game. The fourth episode was so hard to take and I almost stopped watching. I’m not going to quit this show though, it’s too good and I’m too invested now. The showrunner nailed Pedro’s personality when he said he was looking for someone paternal who has both brutality and vulnerability. Bella Ramsey has those qualities too and you really understand how these characters are so bonded to each other.

After I wrote this up, Sony released part two of their Creator to Creator series featuring The Last of Us. I was so pleased to see that they gave Bella Ramsey more space to speak, it seemed like they were talking over her in the first episode. She’s 19 years old and she’s phenomenally talented. It comes across like showrunner Craig Manzin works hard to create a safe, collaborative set. I especially liked the part where she explained how she gives the best performances when she gets out of her own head.
