Tiffany Haddish: Will Smith smacking Chris Rock was ‘the most beautiful thing’

It’s not surprising that the Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscar incident was the talk of the Oscar afterparties. But what did surprise me is that the overwhelming majority of Oscar-attendees either kept their mouths shut or they gave Will and Chris some space and some grace to work it out on their own. Very few celebrities were trying to dive in the middle of the situation and talk sh-t about either man. Tiffany Haddish went a bit further than most people though – it seems she is firmly on Team Will Smith. She described his actions as “beautiful.”

Tiffany Haddish is sharing her thoughts on Will Smith smacking Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards, explaining why she found the controversial moment “beautiful.”

“When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife. That meant so much to me,” Haddish, 42, told PEOPLE at the Governors Ball following the ceremony. During the show, Smith, 53, walked on stage and hit Rock, 57, after Rock made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.

Haddish, who starred in 2017’s Girls Trip with Jada, continued, “As a woman, who has been unprotected, for someone to say, ‘Keep my wife’s name out your mouth, leave my wife alone,’ that’s what your husband is supposed to do, right? Protect you. And that meant the world to me. And maybe the world might not like how it went down, but for me, it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen because it made me believe that there are still men out there that love and care about their women, their wives.”

Haddish then asked, “Would you do that for your wife? Would you say, ‘Keep my wife’s name out your mother f—ing…’ Like, yes! Yes!”

The comedian and actress went on to note that Rock is “a friend” of Will and Jada, and questioned, “Why would you do that? He didn’t even run the joke by her, but she was hurt though. If she wouldn’t have been hurt, [Will] probably wouldn’t have said nothing,” said Haddish. “But you could see he was clearly… And they exploited it. They exploited her, so ‘I have to do something’… He protected his wife.” She later said that “Will is fine.”

[From People]

Yeah, that’s the thing – the Hollywood community is close-knit already, but the Black Hollywood community is even more close-knit. Chris Rock has known Will Smith and Jada for years, decades. They socialize in the same circles. Tiffany knows Rock from the comedy world, and she knows Will and Jada from the acting world. Tiffany is putting herself in Jada’s shoes in the situation and thinking about how hurt Jada must have felt. And honestly? Hurting Jada’s feelings was the whole point of Rock’s “joke.” The Oscar producers knew Rock was going to say that. That’s why they already had the camera on Will and Jada, for their reaction. As Tiffany says, they exploited Jada.

Tiffany Haddish and Common split: are ‘too busy for a serious relationship’

Tiffany Haddish and Common join the pride BLM protest

Last year Tiffany Haddish found herself in an entanglement with hip hop’s most eligible bachelor, the Black George Clooney (before Amal), Common. Tiffany was extra AF when she confirmed back in August 2020 that she and Common were a couple, said she loved him and added that they both had been tested before doing the horizontal. Tiffany seemed more enthusiastic about their relationship than Common, which was a red flag for those of us who have been following Common for years. Two months later, we heard rumors that they had broken up because they unfollowed each other on the Gram. Tiffany denied that a few days later. Maybe there was something to those early rumors because a source told People that the two have recently broken up. The reason given was that they were too busy for a relationship. The source stated that Tiffany and Common are rarely in the same city and therefore couldn’t keep the fires burning. A few highlights from People:

“They are never in the same city together and both of them are just too busy for a serious relationship,” the source says.

Their split comes over a year after Haddish revealed she and Common were dating in an interview with Steve-O on his podcast Steve-O’s Wild Ride in August 2020.

“I am in a relationship,” the Girls Trip star, 41, said before confirming she was dating Common, 49.

“Yeah, we’re twins now,” she joked at the time of their similar shaved heads.

The two met on the set of the 2019 film The Kitchen where they became friends, Haddish told Steve-O.

She added that at the time it “wasn’t anything sexual or anything like that because my eyes were set on something else.”

It was after they went on a virtual Bumble date in April that their relationship blossomed, however. “And then he got tested for everything, I got tested for everything and yeah, we’ve been f—ing,” she said.

[From People]

Listen, when all of this came out I was concerned about how hot and enthusiastic Tiffany was about her budding relationship with Common. Common is a lover and I didn’t expect him to behave any differently with Tiffany than he had with all of the other women he had had relationships with. It was cringey watching Tiffany talk about how she loved Common while Common was saying that he “cared” for her. I knew then that it wouldn’t last long. Women mess up when we think we have magical vaginas and guys will change when WE date them. It has been common knowledge that Common’s (pun intended) past behavior shows that he prefers short term (1-2 years) situationships. If it were me, I would have went into the relationship just for the sex and bragging rights.

A lot of women have been in their feelings all over Twitter about the dissolution of this relationship and I personally don’t understand why. Common has been like this since the late 90s. He is as consistent in his relationship goals as he is with wearing them damn gray sweaters (I said it). No woman should go into a relationship with Common thinking they are going to bag him. Anyways, I am sure the excuse that they are rarely in the same city and don’t have time for each other is convenient. However, we are still in a pandemic and work is just now picking up. I know that Common released a new album in September of this year but his last movie came out early last year, so I am not buying it. But that’s none of my business. I hope, despite my feelings towards Tiffany, that she did not get her heart too involved. I hope the next woman in Common’s life knows that the only purpose of being with Common is to have fun and nothing more.

Regina King in Louis Vuitton at the AMMP gala: best suit look?

avalon-0634350256

When Kaiser told me yesterday morning there was yet another gala to cover I was not happy! We just had the Emmys, The Met Gala and the VMAs, it’s been a lot and I’m out of practice. Then I read some of her posts and I was excited for it. Big events are coming back, fashion is back and the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum is opening at the end of this month! I’ve been excited to see that since I first heard about it in early 2019. It was supposed to open in late 2019 but I guess it got pushed back and then the pandemic happened. I haven’t been to LA in so long and now I have yet another reason to visit. In the mean time Hecate will go and tell me all about it.

First off is Regina King in an amazing Louis Vuitton navy and black suit. Navy and black is in, we’ve seen Duchess Meghan wear that color combination a few times, and it looks so good on Regina. I also love her sleek side pony and her striking diamond and sapphire medallion necklace. She just wore a suit look to the Met Gala too. (It was a gown designed like a suit and she killed it there as well.)

I’m including Sophia Loren next because she was posing with Regina on the red carpet. You can see the stripes down the side of Regina’s suit! Sophia was being honored last night. I don’t have a designer ID on her gown but I wish it was in a better color. Still, Sophia is 87 years old! If I am still kicking it in gorgeous sequin gowns after 85 I will be so happy.

Regina also posed with Selma Blair, who was in a Rokh look featuring a sequin and jeweled nude tulle dress over black pants. There’s something very Cruella de Vil about this look. I’m not liking Selma’s makeup and hair color either, but I’m glad to see her out.

Tiffany Haddish was also in a black and white suit with blonde hair. I kind of love those pants and she looks so happy and relaxed. You get the sense that Tiffany has fun no matter where she is.

avalon-0634412620

Look at how gorgeous Ava Duvernay is in that floor length long sleeve black gown with bright silk and floral print patches. It’s such a simple yet elegant design. Ava was there to honor Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima with the Vantage Award.

avalon-0634408376

Look at Angela Bassett! She is working this Elie Saab pantsuit, but Angela could work looks that most models couldn’t pull off. I don’t really like the fussy gold brocade on this, but with Angela in it I see the intent.

avalon-0634408263

Here’s Gabrielle Union looking uncomfortable in a Alexandre Vauthier dress. That just looks like a black bodysuit with layers of chiffon on it. It’s not a great look.

avalon-0634409112

Dwyane Wade was there too. Gabrielle’s memoir just came out. She’s getting the most headlines for talking about the time Dwyane had a baby with another woman in 2013, maybe when they were on a break. I don’t know how these celebrities can put all their business out in public like that, but I’m not famous.

Jennifer Hudson also looks disappointed with her Alexandre Vauthier gown. It’s just an LBD with a bunch of asymmetric sparkly fringe on it. Sometimes I think the famous women get roped into these looks by their stylists and just go along with it because they know they’ll get a better dress the next time around.

Tiffany Haddish on shaving her head: ‘I started to fall in love with myself’

Tiffany Haddish posing on a hotel balcony, via Instagram

Several high profile Black women, including Between Christina Milian and Jada Pinkett Smith have been discussing hair loss. Last summer, Tiffany Haddish posted a video on Instagram of her shaving her head. At the time, Tiffany didn’t explain why she did it. Tiffany is finally opening up about why she made such a drastic move last year. Tiffany said that she has damaged her hair multiple times because she was trying to conform to what the men in her life thought was beautiful. Appearing on Red Table Talk, Tiffany said that she had gotten a weave and permed her hair because her lovers at the time asked her to. Tiffany also said that she started to fall in love with herself after shaving her hair off and finally being able to see her features. Below are a few more highlights via Yahoo!:

The Night School actress, who recently shaved her head, joined fellow bald and beautiful ladies Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Norris to talk about how she’s more confident than ever now that she’s no longer sporting long locks.

“I started to fall in love with myself,” Haddish explained. “That wasn’t even the intention. But I see all my features. My eyes, my nose, my cheeks. I was like, ‘God did a good job at putting me together.’”

The Emmy winner, who worked with Pinkett Smith in the movie Girls Trip, revealed that while her current partner, rapper and actor Common, appreciated her “meat head,” she’s dealt with exes who wanted her to style her hair in a certain way.

“I had this boyfriend, and he used to be like ‘Tiffany, are so pretty, but you would look so much better if your hair went to your breast,’” Haddish shared. “So me and my auntie got together and we tried to put a weave in my head and it did not work out. I would look crazy.”

She added that her ex-husband, William Stewart, also had ideas about how she should do her hair. Haddish said, “When I got married I was trying to decide how to do my hair. My ex-husband said ‘I ain’t never been with a woman who ain’t got no perm. I don’t know how I’m going to be married to you without no perm.’ So I permed my hair, and maybe three weeks into the marriage, my hair broke off.”

Haddish declared, “That’s the last time I listen to a man I’m laying down with about my hair.”

[From Yahoo!]

I am loving how Black women including Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, and Candice Patton have been talking openly about Black hair care. I give even bigger props to those women who have been open about suffering from alopecia and taking better care of their hair. We should be having more of the hair conversations as Black women. I have to agree with Tiffany, the first time I shaved my hair off, I never felt so beautiful. Many people that it looked masculine and asked me why I would do that to my hair. My response as always was “it’s just hair.” At the time I was suffering from stress alopecia and was losing my hair in clumps. I felt that I needed to free myself from the trauma of balding. I never felt as sexy or feminine as I did with that shaved head. also like how Tiffany talks about damaging her hair for the sole purpose of pleasing the men in her life. I know a lot of Black women stuck in that cycle of pain. I do hope that Tiffany is doing what is necessary to care for her tresses.

Although I have my beef with Tiffany and how she has handled some things recently, I will definitely watch this episode of Red Table Talk. There is definitely something empowering about Black women doing whatever the hell they want to with their hair. Men be damned.

Careers Florence Griffith Joyner Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish to play Florence Griffith Joyner in new biopic

FloJoTiffany

Florence Griffith Joyner was one of my childhood heroines and now her story is being made into a movie. Flo-Jo, as she was known, was an Olympic champion and the fastest woman in the world. She died tragically in 1998 in her sleep from an epileptic seizure at the age of 38. A Flo-Jo biopic is in the works starring Tiffany Haddish, who will also co-produce. Flo-Jo’s widower, Al Joyner, will also be assisting in the project. Al said that he is excited to be working with Tiffany because she is committed to telling Florence’s story accurately. Tiffany said she wanted to do this project because Flo-Jo was her idol as a kid. No release date has been set as of yet. Below are a few more details about the movie from Variety:

The “Girls Trip” actress will star as Florence Griffith Joyner, known as “Flo-Jo” to her fans, who helped popularize track and field with her record-breaking Olympic run and flashy personality and style (she originated the “one-legger” look with her running suits). Many of the records that Joyner set in the 1988 Olympics, including those in the 100 m and 200 m, have yet to be broken. Joyner died in 1998 at the age of 38 of an epileptic seizure.

Haddish will produce the film, as well. A release announcing the project says that Joyner was one of Haddish’s heroes growing up.

Game1 Co-CEO’s Basil Iwanyk and Greg Economou will also serve as producers on this film. In addition, Flo-Jo’s widower and former coach, Al Joyner, will serve as a producer and creative consultant on the project. Additionally, he has already begun training Haddish to play the role, using methods that his late wife deployed during her career. Melanie Clark of She Ready Productions will also serve as a producer, while Jonathan Fuhrman of Thunder Road Pictures will serve as an executive producer.

“We are thrilled to partner with Tiffany on such an important project,” said Iwanyk. “Tiffany has established herself as one of the greatest entertainers in the world today – helping her tell the story of her idol Flo-Jo is an amazing honor and privilege.”

Therese Andrews, EVP of Production at game1, is spearheading the entire project.

“I am looking forward to telling Flo-Jo’s story the way it should be told,” said Haddish. “My goal with this film is making sure that younger generations know my ‘she-ro’ Flo-Jo, the fastest woman in the world to this day, existed.”

“I am so elated to team up with game1 and Tiffany Haddish on this project,” said Joyner. “Working with Tiffany has been a great pleasure – she is incredibly dedicated, focused, and committed to portraying the spirit of Florence accurately, whose legacy of making a difference in the world will live on for generations to come. I hope that this film touches all who see it and inspires people to BE the change the world so desperately needs right now!”

[From Variety]

As excited as I am about Flo-Jo’s story being told, I am not so keen on Tiffany Haddish doing the story. One, I think she doesn’t have the range to be playing such an icon. Two, I am definitely over Tiffany after some of the things she has done and said this year. I had just joined Clubhouse in January when I heard about how she cyberbullied a doctor trying to correct her about the Covid vaccine. I am not necessarily a fan of Nicki Minaj but Tiffany used Clubhouse to drag Nicki and someone recorded it. Then Tiffany, whose father is Eritrean, questioned the genocide in Ethiopia against the Tigray people. Let’s just say I feel Tiffany needs to take a break from the public eye for a bit. I am hoping that they do Flo-Jo’s story and life justice, and having her husband attached to the movie may just help. However, I really wish Tiffany would have just found someone else to play Flo-Jo instead of inserting herself into the movie. It would have been cool if Tiffany would have just co-produced the movie without feeling the need to star in it.

My Heart is so full Right now! I can’t even explain how hard I am going to work to honor Her Legacy! https://t.co/Ph4pdtkYii

Actress reveals how Beyonce shuts down Jay Z’s female admirers

Beyoncé put to shame the woman who dared to brazenly flirt and touch her husband Jay-Z, according to the star’s new friend actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish.

In a preview for TV One’s UNCENSORED, the Girls Trip star recalled the moment Queen Bey shut down an actress who had put her hands on Jay-Z’s chest after his concert.

‘I was talking to Jay-Z for a little bit,’ Haddish recounted. ‘And there was another actress that was there who was also talking to Jay-Z.

‘[The actress] touched Jay-Z’s chest and Beyoncé came walking up like…’Biitttchhh!’ But, she didn’t say that,’ Haddish made clear.

‘But her demeanour, her body from the way she walked up on them said, “Get your hands off my man’s chest”.’

Haddish didn’t disclose the name of the actress, but hinted that a conversation went down between Bey and the unknown woman.
