David Beckham turned 50 years old a month ago in what turned out to be a pretty chaotic few weeks. Around his many birthday parties, David dramatically fell out with his oldest son Brooklyn, partly because Brooklyn did not attend any of his father’s parties. In many of the articles about David’s birthday, journalists somewhat gleefully pointed out that David still didn’t have a longed-for knighthood. David has been publicly lobbying for a knighthood for what feels like the past twenty years. David has taken it up a notch in the past two years, putting in one sycophantic appearance after another in conjunction with the Windsors. Just recently, he turned up at the Chelsea Flower Show, and he was practically simpering as soon as he saw King Charles. I thought Charles would keep him groveling for another few years, but it looks like David is finally getting it: a knighthood, at long last!

David Beckham will be awarded a knighthood next week after years of appeals from fans for the former England and Manchester United footballer to receive Britain’s highest honour.

Beckham’s knighthood will be announced in the King’s birthday honours list and will mean that the former England captain’s wife, Victoria, will be known as Lady Beckham.

Beckham, capped 115 times for the national team, has long been tipped to be knighted, but has remained an OBE — an honour he received in 2003.

Now a friend of the King, Beckham has become a supporter of the King’s Foundation and was made a charity ambassador by Charles last year. He visited Highgrove to learn more about the charity.

As we know from years of mainstream reporting, it’s not like David really had to do all of that to get a knighthood. All he had to do was donate a few million pounds, preferably cash transferred in a suitcase, to one of Charles’s “foundations,” and he could have gotten a knighthood like ten years ago. But David wanted to do it the old-fashioned way, by boot-licking, groveling, simpering and ass-kissing. Sir David Beckham and Lady Beckham. Man. I never thought I’d see it.

Recently, someone accused me of placating the MAGA cult because I… defended Nicola Peltz. Yeah, I understand that Nicola’s billionaire father is some kind of major Trump supporter and donor, and that sucks. But I don’t think Nicola has ever expressed any interest in anything to do with Donald Trump, much less anything political in general. Nicola is too busy building her own (questionable) brand and helping her husband Brooklyn Beckham build his business. All of which to say, I’m sure Nicola is a superficial Mean Girl, but I also despise the way Nicola is being treated by the Beckhams and by the British media. There are two things happening concurrently: Nicola and her publicist are leaking to TMZ and People Magazine, all while David and Victoria Beckham are waging a really ghastly campaign against Brooklyn and Nicola. There’s been a deep vein of anti-Americanism in the Beckhams’ campaign, and it feels like David and Victoria are genuinely pissed that Brooklyn prioritizes his wife over them. Speaking of, the Daily Mail is already turning Nicola and Brooklyn into the next Harry & Meghan. From one of the Mail’s big Beckham exclusives:

It’s well known across the entire Beckham family that Brooklyn Beckham hates being filmed, and will only do it if he really has to. For example, for his cringeworthy cookery videos. Because, despite having watched his parents pose for the cameras on the world stage since the day he was born, their eldest son has always been rather reluctant to put himself in the limelight. But now a video has emerged of him riding a motorbike with wife Nicola Peltz, as part of a forthright post to show he is well and truly siding with her in the bitter feud that has ensnared the Beckham family. And those close to David and Victoria Beckham say they are pointing the finger at their daughter-in-law.

In the jaw-dropping Instagram post, Brooklyn wrote alongside a clip of him and Nicola speeding around Beverly Hills: ‘My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever baby.’ It is the first time either of the couple, who snubbed all of former England captain David’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this month, have publicly addressed the rift.

And it will have left David and Victoria both staggered and deeply concerned, as they fear that Brooklyn is falling increasingly under the control of Nicola, the daughter of American billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz.

‘Brooklyn is now being referred to as “the hostage”. He is in a situation where those who love Brooklyn fear that he is being controlled by Nicola and it is heartbreaking,’ said a source close to the fall-out. ‘Videos like this are just not what he does. He will be dying inside. He’s soppy and he’s a romantic but that video just isn’t him. He hates all of that stuff so you have to wonder if Nicola was behind it.’

As someone pointed out to me, it is particularly galling given Nicola had been briefing the media that the Beckhams are using social media for ‘performative’ reasons, when this post is perhaps the very epitome of such behaviour.

The seismic beef between David & Victoria Beckham versus Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz didn’t happen overnight. There was a quieter feud between the two couples ever since Brooklyn married Nicola, although for years, both sides did a lot to tamp down the beef allegations. Then Nicola and Brooklyn skipped all of David’s 50th birthday parties, and that was the last straw for both sides. Brooklyn and Nicola couldn’t believe that David didn’t want to celebrate his birthday with them privately, away from everyone else. David and Victoria were pissed off that Brooklyn wouldn’t come to the family parties, and that he prioritizes Nicola over them. Soon, both sides were briefing their side of the story. Nicola and Brooklyn think David and Victoria are “toxic parents.” Meanwhile, David and Victoria think that Brooklyn just needs to divorce the American and come home to England. All of this was made worse when the Peltz-Beckhams had dinner with Prince Harry and Meghan… and then the Peltz-Beckhams visited London without even checking in with Brooklyn’s parents. So here we are. Us Weekly had a big exclusive:

A source exclusively told Us Weekly that David, 50, and Victoria, 51, “feel betrayed” about the current state of things, which came to a head when Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, skipped David’s 50th birthday party in London earlier this month. Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola’s absence from the celebratory bash was described as “a blow.”

“Victoria and David haven’t called, texted or messaged Brooklyn directly since the birthday party,” the insider added.

The actress’ father, Nelson Peltz, is a billionaire American businessman who cofounded Trian Partners, a hedge fund management firm. Nicola’s mother, Claudia Heffner, is a former fashion model. The couple got married in 1985 and have 8 children. Recently, Brooklyn credited his wife, 30, for inspiring his new line of hot sauces, Cloud23, which launched in October 2024.

“Friends and people around them see a long road to mending this,” the source explained. “But there is a desire to mend on David and Victoria’s part.”

In spite of the current friction with his parents, a second source said that Brooklyn and Nicola, who got married in April 2022, are stronger than ever.


“Nicola and Brooklyn are incredibly happy together, dedicated to building a marriage based on unconditional love, caring, support and family,” the insider said. “It seems this exposure to a healthy relationship has made Brooklyn question his own family and upbringing.”

The source explained how Brooklyn’s reluctance to attend David’s birthday party — which centered around Brooklyn’s dislike of his younger brother Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim Turnbull — was really just the straw that broke the camel’s back. “After recent years of attempting to set boundaries with his family and encourage honest and positive change in their relationship to no avail, he’s become discouraged and disheartened,” the source said.

Nicola has “tried to have a close and positive relationship with David and Victoria,” the source said, but recent developments have forced that to “come to an end.”

The insider added, “Nicola and Brooklyn have a mutual desire for Brooklyn to explore his interests and grow as a person. That is what is causing the family rift.”

Brooklyn is 26 years old and he’s been married for three years. Did David and Victoria honestly expect him to still come to them with his problems and his business plans? Did they expect to control Brooklyn’s life indefinitely and gatekeep his wife? It’s so bizarre. I think Victoria and David were good parents when their kids were young, but they’ve really exposed themselves as not being able to handle it when they lose control of their adult kids.

Monday, May 19th was Press Day at the Chelsea Flower Show. In 2023, the Princess of Wales stole King Charles’s thunder on that year’s Press Day – the day was supposed to be about Charles’s first visit to the flower show as king, but Kate surprised Buckingham Palace by making a surprise appearance at busing in random children for a photo-op. Charles was beyond furious and for several weeks, Kate was soundly punished in the media. It was really funny. Two years later, Kate was nowhere to be seen on Press Day. Odd, given Kate’s new focus on “nature.” But of course Charles and Camilla made it to the Chelsea Flower Show. They weren’t alone – look who turned up for a special photo-op: David Beckham!!

Obviously, David is desperate for a knighthood and he’s been trying to grovel his way to that knighthood for years. It’s his retirement project: subservience and obsequiousness to the left-behinds, who are now openly using David for their own narrow purposes. Seeing David and Charles together is a reminder that neither man has lifted a finger to call off the media dogs when it comes to their sons. You would think with all of David’s money, power and cultural cachet, he would just abandon this exercise which sees him openly groveling to the royals. Like, at some point, he’s actually damaging his brand, right? Anyway, this serves as confirmation to me of my theory that Charles and William explicitly told Beckham to abandon the Sussexes if he ever wanted a knighthood. They’ve been dangling that just out of reach for years, and David obliges with whatever they want him to do. Including cutting off his son who is living in America.

Ever since Brooklyn Beckham married Nicola Peltz in 2022, there’s been drama. The drama actually began before the wedding, as there were widely circulated rumors of beef between Nicola and Victoria Beckham. There was clean-up on those rumors after the wedding, but the past three years have been full of gossip about deeper rifts between Brooklyn and Nicola on one side and the wider Beckham family on the other. Recently, we heard that Brooklyn has an issue with his brother Romeo because of Romeo’s girlfriend (who used to date Brooklyn). Then Brooklyn and Nicola skipped all of David Beckham’s birthday celebrations, and it turns out that the family rift is a lot deeper than two brothers arguing over a girl. There are conflicting reports about whether Brooklyn and Nicola tried to see David in London last week (ahead of his birthday) and whether David and Victoria have given Brooklyn and Nicola a series of strange, controlling ultimatums. As I’ve said, I’m not picking sides here. But I found this recent TMZ story to be pretty interesting… and it was fascinating to see how little play this got beyond TMZ.

More drama is brewing in the Beckham family — after we broke the news Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham are not speaking to one another, we’ve learned the animosity has fully infiltrated the eldest Beckham brother’s relationship with his allegedly “toxic” parents.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … Brooklyn and his wife of three years, Nicola Peltz, are fed up with the way David and Victoria Beckham treat them — especially after they’ve tried to patch up their relationship several times, to no avail. Here’s what we know … Nicola doesn’t appreciate the way “narcissistic” David and Victoria treat her hubby, and she’s the first romantic partner of his to put her foot down, which they don’t like.

As you know … there have been years of rumors that Victoria and Nicola don’t get along, and, we’re told the fashion designer thinks Nicola stole her precious son from her — and even stirred the pot by interrupting their first dance as a couple at their 2022 wedding by running up to the dance floor and basically pushing Nicola away. This apparently left her in tears. Remember … Nicola went on the record squashing chatter that there were hiccups in their relationship — and even gave a story about why Victoria didn’t design her wedding gown. Of course, not everyone bought that at the time.

As for David, TMZ is told by a source that he “verbally berates” Brooklyn on the phone … but Victoria tries to smooth things over by immediately sending Nicola a loving text so there’s no proof the former soccer pro “didn’t just scream at Brooklyn for an hour.”

That being said, Nicola and Brooklyn are “devastated” by “performative” David and Victoria’s behavior and feel they are choosing to scapegoat Nicola rather than sit down and talk through their issues.

Our insider says the young couple “have made themselves available for months and months to discuss all of the ongoing drama,” but that David and Victoria refuse to talk with her around “because she always talks back to them and stands up for Brooklyn.”

Adding more salt to the wound, we’re told Nicola believes she’s always supported her hubby’s family by attending Victoria’s fashion shows and promoting her products on social media, but doesn’t get the same treatment. For instance, our source says Nicola asked Victoria to promote her dog rescue, Yogi’s House, during the L.A. wildfires in January … but Victoria apparently blamed her social media coordinator by saying “she’s not posting content right now.”

It definitely sounds like Brooklyn and Nicola are positioning themselves as the Harry & Meghan of the Beckham royal family. A scapegoat son married a woman who is disliked by his family, and the son wants to reconcile and work through the family issues but his father prefers to “berate” him. Pretty soon, David’s going to take away Brooklyn’s security! I jest, but Brooklyn and Nicola should be thankful that they’re building their lives in America, away from Brooklyn’s “toxic” family, I guess. I don’t think the Beckhams were prepared for Brooklyn to marry a young woman who comes from money, who has her own American network and power base, etc. Of course, I’ve thought this whole time that David and Victoria have an issue with Brooklyn growing up and being independent. Like, that’s what this is fundamentally about (from where I sit).

But things have really heated up in recent months as the Beckhams were trying to celebrate David Beckham’s 50th birthday in a multi-city celebration. Brooklyn and Nicola did not attend any of the celebrations or parties. They didn’t go to Victoria’s recent fashion show either. TMZ reported that Brooklyn and Nicola did go to England ahead of David’s birthday last week, wanting to spend some time with David privately ahead of the b-day party, but they were rebuffed. Now the Beckham fam says that’s not what really happened:

Brooklyn Beckham’s birthday snub of dad David is “appalling” — and his family “just can’t deal with this nonsense anymore,” according to a source. Despite reports that Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, were rebuffed after asking to see David in London last week, Page Six is told the couple made no attempt to see the superstar athlete during his 50th birthday celebrations, amid a “very sad” and deepening family rift.

Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, are said to be very close to her billionaire parents, Nelson and Claudia, but “never go to [Beckham] family events anymore” or visit David and Victoria, a source in the know revealed. The young couple have not been pictured with Brooklyn’s parents or siblings since Christmas.

“In some ways this is no surprise, but I guess no one could believe they would actually snub David’s 50th when there were so many events they could have gone to, or ways to spend time with the family … their behavior has been appalling,” the source said.

Page Six has been stirring this drama for a while, but I actually believe that Brooklyn’s failure to turn out for any of his father’s parties has really changed things. It’s interesting that the Beckham family is trying to say that Brooklyn and Nicola didn’t even try to see David last week – then why were the Beckham-Peltzs in England? Because Brooklyn’s side maintains that David and Victoria wouldn’t see them. Anyway, the icing on this cake is that now People Magazine is getting Beckham briefings too:

Do I also think that Brooklyn and Nicola have made mistakes and been rude to David and Victoria? For sure. But the core of this is “why is Brooklyn not attached to us constantly.” It’s just about navigating family sh-t – sometimes family members don’t get along, sometimes people leave the nest and marry someone you don’t like, sometimes people don’t make time for family birthdays. It sucks but it’s also completely normal?

The old drama used to be between Nicola and Victoria Beckham. These days, the drama is between Brooklyn and his younger brother Romeo, all about how Brooklyn dated Romeo’s girlfriend first and something something brother-beef. Well, in any case, Brooklyn has now skipped two of his father’s birthday bashes.

We broke the story … Brooklyn and his brother Romeo aren’t on speaking terms because of his relationship with Turnbull — who Brooklyn had a romantic connection with several years ago, but that’s all water under the bridge now.

I have no stake in this Beckham family beef and I don’t have any particular sympathy for any side. I think Brooklyn is acting childish about Romeo and his girlfriend. I also think the Beckhams probably should have made time to hang out with Brooklyn and Nicola privately and separately from Brooklyn’s siblings. The Beckham fam was so close when the kids were growing up, and I don’t think David and Victoria have done a good job handling the (imo, completely natural) frictions that come with their sons becoming men.
