In 2022, Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham gave their exclusive wedding photos to American and British Vogue. British Vogue ran the wedding pics as a cover – American Vogue did not. The Peltz-Beckham wedding was a much bigger story in the UK, whereas Americans were like “oh, a billionaire’s daughter married one of the Beckham sons, okay.” Back in 2022, the British tabloids went crazy with all of the gossip about a war between the Peltzs and the Beckhams, especially over all of the wedding planning. Now that we’re years past the wedding and Brooklyn and Nicola are still beefing hard with Victoria and David, the gossip has definitely come back around to all of the old wedding dramas. Not only are sources insisting that Victoria behaved inappropriately at the wedding (making Nicola cry), those sources are now saying that there was actually a huge beef over Nicola’s wedding gown. The bride ended up wearing Valentino, not one of Victoria’s designs.

The long-standing rumors that Victoria Beckham, 51, and her actress daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz, 30, were at odds with each other over Peltz’s wedding dress back in 2022 have some roots in reality, a Peltz family insider tells PEOPLE.

“When Nicola and Brooklyn [Beckham] got engaged, Victoria told Nicola that she’d love to make her wedding dress, and Nicola said it would be her honor, that she would love to wear one of her originals,” the source says, adding that everyone thought it would be a special added touch to their big day. However, the source claims that as time went by, it became clear that it wasn’t a priority for Victoria, and allegedly Victoria called Peltz’s mother — not Nicola herself — to tell her she wouldn’t be making the dress after all.

“Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding,” the source says, noting that Nicola had worn Victoria’s designs to many events. “She’d gone to a ton of Victoria Beckham fashion shows and events in Victoria’s clothing. She even wore Victoria Beckham to her Lola movie premiere.”

Nicola premiered her film Lola, which she wrote and directed, on Feb. 3, 2024, in Los Angeles, almost two years after her wedding. Victoria was also on hand to support her at that premiere. Peltz did famously wear a yellow silk ruffled midi dress from Victoria’s spring and summer 2020 collection for her engagement photos with Brooklyn in July 2020.

However, a second insider tells PEOPLE that the dress situation is “far from the truth.”

“A quick Google search will show how many times this pointless story has been recycled to try and paint Nicola as somehow a victim,” the source says. “As ever, the Beckhams have stayed above it all despite constant attacks through the media. It’s sad as they love their son and they have all tried so hard with Nicola but it’s become impossible.”

Reps for Victoria and David Beckham did not return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Not long after their April wedding, Peltz denied any rumors of drama, telling Variety that there was no clash over the wedding dress whatsoever, despite the persistent rumors. “I was going to [wear Victoria Beckham] and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that,” she told the outlet at the time.

We’ve heard so many different versions of the wedding-dress story, I don’t know what to believe anymore. Nicola has told several different versions too, and I tend to believe that she never really wanted to wear a gown designed by Victoria anyway. Nicola and her mom went to Valentino pretty early in the process, from what I remember. Now, did Victoria offer? For sure, it would have been awkward if Victoria didn’t offer to make the dress, just as it would have been awkward for Nicola to refuse. Now, if Posh offered and Nicola accepted, then Victoria backed out and called Nicola’s mom? RUDE! One thing I do believe is that the British tabloids were already making Nicola the villain with this story, that Nicola was too high and mighty to wear one of Posh’s designs. It also sounds like the Beckhams continue to be quite upset that Nicola and her publicists are making them sound like complete a–holes.

As we’ve discussed, it’s not like David and Victoria Beckham woke up last month and decided to start beefing with Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz. There has been a lot of drama between Brooklyn and his parents for years, ever since he married Nicola in 2022. There were multiple stories about Nicola and Victoria falling out around the wedding, but those rumors subsided after some time went by, and the Peltz-Beckhams seemingly buried the hatchet with the Beckhams, or at least achieved some kind of Cold War stand-off. But the Peltz-Beckhams skipped David’s 50th birthday celebrations, and that’s why there has been WEEKS of nonstop sniping back and forth between the two camps. Hilariously, some unnamed sources decided to go to People Magazine with a story from 2022 – a story about an incident at Nicola and Brooklyn’s wedding. An incident involving Victoria.

There’s currently no love lost between Brooklyn Beckham, 26, and his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, a source close to the Peltz family tells PEOPLE, just days after Brooklyn posted a cryptic message on Instagram stating that he’d “always choose” his wife.

The source says tensions between the couple finally came to a head after Victoria, 51, allegedly hijacked the first dance at Brooklyn’s 2022 Palm Beach wedding to actress Nicola Peltz, 30 — even though the couple had been planning on dancing to the song together.

“Marc Anthony, who is a friend of the Beckhams, offered to perform as a gift at the wedding,” the source explains. “Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, ‘The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up…Victoria Beckham!’”

The source claims that the new bride allegedly “felt that Victoria ruined her wedding, and couldn’t understand why.” A second insider adds that the entire room was so shocked that Anthony called Victoria’s name over Nicola’s that a complete silence followed. “It was such a jaw-dropping moment that it left the whole room in absolute shock — you could hear a pin drop,” the second source adds.

Guests were allegedly even more surprised when Victoria began slow dancing with her son.

“It wasn’t appropriate,” the source says of the moment, adding that everyone then saw “Nicola run from the room crying.”

“Nicola felt like Victoria did this on purpose, when she knew it was a pre-planned romantic dance meant for Brooklyn and Nicola. What she couldn’t understand was why.”

Another insider familiar with the matter says the dance debacle has been part of a pattern of an ongoing rift, claiming that Brooklyn and Nicola have been trying their best to remain on friendly terms with the duo. “They’ve tried to make peace, but every time they finally have a happy moment, it all falls apart again,” the insider says. The insider adds, “Brooklyn feels torn. It’s his family and blood, but he’s always had a complicated relationship with his dad. A lot of their relationship has felt like ‘business.’”

I laughed! Marc Anthony is a shady B. If he decided to do that on his own, that is. To get up at a wedding and call the mother of the groom “the most beautiful woman in the room” is such a hilarious wedding fail though. And Victoria slow-dancing with Brooklyn for the first dance of the night… my god. In America, the more conservative wedding tradition is that the father of the bride dances with his daughter for the first dance, then the groom cuts in and the father and groom shake hands or something. Maybe the British tradition is “the groom’s psycho mother demands the first dance while the bride runs out of the room in tears.” I remember Nicola talking about how she and her mom had very specific ideas about the wedding planning, and her mom was very involved in everything. I wonder what the Peltz family thought of the Beckhams at the wedding.

Also: It’s worth noting that People Mag ran this story as an exclusive, and I can only imagine this is the work of Nicola and her publicist. Hours after People’s exclusive came out, Page Six ran their own exclusive, in which “sources” close to both Nicola and Victoria argued about what really happened at the wedding. Team Posh claims that yes, Victoria and Brooklyn did dance at the wedding but it wasn’t the first dance and everything had been coordinated ahead of time (except for the part about Marc Anthony calling Posh the most beautiful woman in the room). But Team Peltz maintains that Victoria behaved inappropriately and made Nicola cry.

Recently, someone accused me of placating the MAGA cult because I… defended Nicola Peltz. Yeah, I understand that Nicola’s billionaire father is some kind of major Trump supporter and donor, and that sucks. But I don’t think Nicola has ever expressed any interest in anything to do with Donald Trump, much less anything political in general. Nicola is too busy building her own (questionable) brand and helping her husband Brooklyn Beckham build his business. All of which to say, I’m sure Nicola is a superficial Mean Girl, but I also despise the way Nicola is being treated by the Beckhams and by the British media. There are two things happening concurrently: Nicola and her publicist are leaking to TMZ and People Magazine, all while David and Victoria Beckham are waging a really ghastly campaign against Brooklyn and Nicola. There’s been a deep vein of anti-Americanism in the Beckhams’ campaign, and it feels like David and Victoria are genuinely pissed that Brooklyn prioritizes his wife over them. Speaking of, the Daily Mail is already turning Nicola and Brooklyn into the next Harry & Meghan. From one of the Mail’s big Beckham exclusives:

It’s well known across the entire Beckham family that Brooklyn Beckham hates being filmed, and will only do it if he really has to. For example, for his cringeworthy cookery videos. Because, despite having watched his parents pose for the cameras on the world stage since the day he was born, their eldest son has always been rather reluctant to put himself in the limelight. But now a video has emerged of him riding a motorbike with wife Nicola Peltz, as part of a forthright post to show he is well and truly siding with her in the bitter feud that has ensnared the Beckham family. And those close to David and Victoria Beckham say they are pointing the finger at their daughter-in-law.

In the jaw-dropping Instagram post, Brooklyn wrote alongside a clip of him and Nicola speeding around Beverly Hills: ‘My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person I know xx me and you forever baby.’ It is the first time either of the couple, who snubbed all of former England captain David’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this month, have publicly addressed the rift.

And it will have left David and Victoria both staggered and deeply concerned, as they fear that Brooklyn is falling increasingly under the control of Nicola, the daughter of American billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz.

‘Brooklyn is now being referred to as “the hostage”. He is in a situation where those who love Brooklyn fear that he is being controlled by Nicola and it is heartbreaking,’ said a source close to the fall-out. ‘Videos like this are just not what he does. He will be dying inside. He’s soppy and he’s a romantic but that video just isn’t him. He hates all of that stuff so you have to wonder if Nicola was behind it.’

As someone pointed out to me, it is particularly galling given Nicola had been briefing the media that the Beckhams are using social media for ‘performative’ reasons, when this post is perhaps the very epitome of such behaviour.

The seismic beef between David & Victoria Beckham versus Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz didn’t happen overnight. There was a quieter feud between the two couples ever since Brooklyn married Nicola, although for years, both sides did a lot to tamp down the beef allegations. Then Nicola and Brooklyn skipped all of David’s 50th birthday parties, and that was the last straw for both sides. Brooklyn and Nicola couldn’t believe that David didn’t want to celebrate his birthday with them privately, away from everyone else. David and Victoria were pissed off that Brooklyn wouldn’t come to the family parties, and that he prioritizes Nicola over them. Soon, both sides were briefing their side of the story. Nicola and Brooklyn think David and Victoria are “toxic parents.” Meanwhile, David and Victoria think that Brooklyn just needs to divorce the American and come home to England. All of this was made worse when the Peltz-Beckhams had dinner with Prince Harry and Meghan… and then the Peltz-Beckhams visited London without even checking in with Brooklyn’s parents. So here we are. Us Weekly had a big exclusive:

David and Victoria Beckham are reeling from the major fracture in their relationship with their son Brooklyn. A source exclusively told Us Weekly that David, 50, and Victoria, 51, “feel betrayed” about the current state of things, which came to a head when Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, skipped David’s 50th birthday party in London earlier this month. Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola’s absence from the celebratory bash was described as “a blow.”

“Victoria and David haven’t called, texted or messaged Brooklyn directly since the birthday party,” the insider added.

At the crux of the estrangement is “very deep tension rooted in control and different plans for Brooklyn’s future. Nicola comes from a powerful family,” the source explained. “David and Victoria are used to being in control [of situations like this] and there has been a shift.”

The actress’ father, Nelson Peltz, is a billionaire American businessman who cofounded Trian Partners, a hedge fund management firm. Nicola’s mother, Claudia Heffner, is a former fashion model. The couple got married in 1985 and have 8 children. Recently, Brooklyn credited his wife, 30, for inspiring his new line of hot sauces, Cloud23, which launched in October 2024.

“Friends and people around them see a long road to mending this,” the source explained. “But there is a desire to mend on David and Victoria’s part.”

In spite of the current friction with his parents, a second source said that Brooklyn and Nicola, who got married in April 2022, are stronger than ever.


“Nicola and Brooklyn are incredibly happy together, dedicated to building a marriage based on unconditional love, caring, support and family,” the insider said. “It seems this exposure to a healthy relationship has made Brooklyn question his own family and upbringing.”

The source explained how Brooklyn’s reluctance to attend David’s birthday party — which centered around Brooklyn’s dislike of his younger brother Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim Turnbull — was really just the straw that broke the camel’s back. “After recent years of attempting to set boundaries with his family and encourage honest and positive change in their relationship to no avail, he’s become discouraged and disheartened,” the source said.

Nicola has “tried to have a close and positive relationship with David and Victoria,” the source said, but recent developments have forced that to “come to an end.”

The insider added, “Nicola and Brooklyn have a mutual desire for Brooklyn to explore his interests and grow as a person. That is what is causing the family rift.”

Brooklyn is 26 years old and he’s been married for three years. Did David and Victoria honestly expect him to still come to them with his problems and his business plans? Did they expect to control Brooklyn’s life indefinitely and gatekeep his wife? It’s so bizarre. I think Victoria and David were good parents when their kids were young, but they’ve really exposed themselves as not being able to handle it when they lose control of their adult kids.

There are so many moving parts to this Peltz-Beckham-Windsor-Sussex feud, I feel like we might need to make a flow chart at some point. To recap, the Windsors and Sussexes are feuding off to one side, and on a completely different side, David and Victoria Beckham are feuding with Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham. The Beckham feud has become extremely heightened this week with a full-on briefing campaign from David and Victoria in which they’re painting Nicola as some Meghan Markle-esque American strumpet who stole their precious British prince. The story that brought everything together is that the Peltz-Beckhams had dinner at Harry and Meghan’s home recently. Camp Sussex took pains to say that Nicola and Brooklyn were friends-of-friends and not invited directly. But it’s enough for a full British tabloid sh-tstorm: Beckhams, princes, terrible suits, American billionaires, MEGHAN, Victoria, DRAMA! Well, the briefings from Beckingham Palace continue unabated – the feud is now centered on Victoria vs. Meghan vs. Nicola/Brooklyn.

When David and Victoria Beckham learned their precious eldest son was socialising with Meghan Markle, how their hearts must have sunk. This, after all, is a woman they once considered a friend. A woman they went out of their way to look out for — and who turned her back on them the moment someone wealthier came along. A woman who fell out with them after accusing Victoria of leaking stories about her.

The news that Meghan, alongside docile husband Harry, is befriending Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz would, surely, have caused the Beckhams to shudder in horror. Friends of David and Victoria were apparently stunned by The Sun’s revelations — confirmed overnight by Meghan’s most trusted US publication, People magazine — that Brooklyn had enjoyed an intimate dinner party at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s £11million Montecito mansion. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at that 22-person gathering.

I’m told: “David and Victoria were blindsided by the news — they didn’t see it coming. Of course it’s a bit weird for them as they used to socialise with Meghan and Harry, and now their boy is doing it. David has no problem with Harry and has always acted very graciously towards him — even after the fall-out with Victoria — and they still communicate occasionally. However, once burned . . .Naturally they therefore feel less warmly towards Meghan. They think she has acted truly awfully at times. The last thing they need is for her to be pouring bile into Brooklyn’s ear, telling him to cast his parents out, as she has done with her own dad. What was supposed to be a very private family feud is rapidly escalating and obviously it’s incredibly ­frustrating for the family.”

Sources who attended the dinner, arranged by the Paramount TV network, say the Peltz-Beckhams and Harkles “got on really well”.


Presumably another huge fear for Team Beckham is that Brooklyn “does a Harry” and writes an explosive memoir. He may only be 26, but Brooklyn has lived an extraordinarily privileged life and has seen the A-list celebrity circuit first-hand. Harry’s whinge-fest Spare was a Sunday Times bestseller and, well, unsparing in its criticism of certain members of the Royal Family. I’m told, though, that an auto-biography “is not on Brooklyn’s radar, even though it would have some incredibly juicy chapters”. A source added: “It just isn’t his style — he would never do that to his family. He still loves and cherishes them and is desperate for reconciliation. He wouldn’t go nuclear like Harry and write a tell-all tome.”

There’s a lot more bile at the Sun, but you get the idea. As I’ve covered this unfolding Beckham mess, I have to say, there’s a fatal flaw in the British tabloid coverage. Well, there are tons of flaws, but one of the biggest mistakes is presuming that Americans think of Victoria Beckham as some untouchable A-list celebrity. She’s got name recognition in America, but she’s far from A-list here and all of this simpering of “the grand A-lister Victoria Beckham would never leak about Meghan or Nicola, how gauche” falls flat. Especially given that it’s beyond clear that the Beckhams are absolutely waging a campaign against Brooklyn and Nicola, and they’re actively trying to “Markle” their daughter-in-law. It’s pretty ugly, and it’s tacky as hell for the Beckhams to publicly snipe at the Sussexes for doing nothing but welcome the Peltz-Beckhams for dinner.

The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden is practically foaming at the mouth this week because he gets to talk about the Beckham family, the Waleses and the Sussexes all at once. To recap, the Princess of Wales stepped out this week in a Victoria Beckham suit, a rare moment when Kate actually wore something new-to-us. Simultaneously, Victoria and David Beckham have been waging a pretty public campaign against their daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz, who is married to Brooklyn Beckham. This week, we also learned that Nicola and Brooklyn were recently in Montecito and they had dinner with Prince Harry and Meghan. What do we get when we throw all of these gossip items together? The latest Eden Confidential column:

The Duke of Sussex cruelly suggested in his memoir, Spare, that his brother, Prince William, had married Kate Middleton because she fitted the ‘mould’ of the Royal Family, rather than solely for love. ‘For so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with,’ Prince Harry wrote.

This depiction of The Princess of Wales as a weak character whom the Windsors and their courtiers can shape in every which way they choose has always been far from the truth. Just how wide of the mark this notion really is was vividly illustrated this week when she made a powerful statement, not with words but by her actions. In this case, through her choice of clothes for a royal engagement. She appeared at a fashion industry event to present the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design in an olive-green, £1,340 trouser suit by Victoria Beckham.

Kensington Palace sources said her decision to wear the sharply tailored two-piece suit was to demonstrate her support for British designers in general. A friend of the Princess’s suggested that there was, however, more to it than that. And what they told me was fascinating.

‘Kate wanted to show her support for Victoria Beckham,’ the friend claimed. ‘She’s aware of what Victoria and David have been going through.’ A Kensington Palace spokesman declined to comment. What the Beckhams have been ‘going through’ is a family saga that has temporarily managed to knock the Windsors’ own difficulties off front pages.

While William has become estranged from his brother, the Beckhams have become distant from their eldest son, Brooklyn. In both Harry and Brooklyn’s cases, the problems started after they married older American women. Brooklyn, 26, married Nicola Peltz, 30, daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, in 2022, while Harry, 40, had exchanged vows with actress Meghan Markle, 43, four years earlier.

Today, it is reported that the Sussexes are ‘secretly’ supporting the Peltzes. According to The Sun newspaper, Meghan and Harry invited Brooklyn and his wife to their mansion in Montecito, California, for dinner last week. It was a highly significant invitation as relations between the Beckhams and Brooklyn and his wife are said to be at rock bottom after the couple’s no-show at David’s various recent 50th birthday celebrations. The rift is said to come down to a struggle for Brooklyn’s affections between his doting wife – who is, according to those in the know, the ‘boss’ in the relationship – and his equally doting mother.

One long-standing friend of the Beckhams told my colleague Alison Boshoff: ‘Victoria is fairly open among her close friends about what a viper Nicola is and how she feels betrayed by Brooklyn, so the mask has fully dropped. This is a takeover situation and it is all about the relationship between Victoria Beckham and Nicola. In some ways, Brooklyn has married his mother in Nicola.’

Kate’s very public gesture to Victoria this week may be seen as a further blow to the Sussexes, who once considered the former England football captain and his wife to be part of their ‘court’ across the Atlantic.

Similarly, there are claims that David was basically given an ultimatum: give up his friendship with Harry or else Beckham will never get a knighthood. As for drawing connections between the Peltz-Beckhams and the Sussexes… my god. Both British guys married American women and their British families turned extremely toxic about it! That’s it. That’s the whole connection. I’ve read Nicola’s interviews over the years, and I feel like she was probably really thrilled to meet Meghan especially. They have friends in common – Serena Williams is tight with the Peltz family (they’re neighbors). Anyway, it’s funny that this is a five-alarm emergency in the British press, to the point where Kate is trying to send bitchy messages to American women by wearing a terrible baby-poop-colored suit.

Ever since Brooklyn Beckham married Nicola Peltz in 2022, there’s been drama. The drama actually began before the wedding, as there were widely circulated rumors of beef between Nicola and Victoria Beckham. There was clean-up on those rumors after the wedding, but the past three years have been full of gossip about deeper rifts between Brooklyn and Nicola on one side and the wider Beckham family on the other. Recently, we heard that Brooklyn has an issue with his brother Romeo because of Romeo’s girlfriend (who used to date Brooklyn). Then Brooklyn and Nicola skipped all of David Beckham’s birthday celebrations, and it turns out that the family rift is a lot deeper than two brothers arguing over a girl. There are conflicting reports about whether Brooklyn and Nicola tried to see David in London last week (ahead of his birthday) and whether David and Victoria have given Brooklyn and Nicola a series of strange, controlling ultimatums. As I’ve said, I’m not picking sides here. But I found this recent TMZ story to be pretty interesting… and it was fascinating to see how little play this got beyond TMZ.

More drama is brewing in the Beckham family — after we broke the news Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham are not speaking to one another, we’ve learned the animosity has fully infiltrated the eldest Beckham brother’s relationship with his allegedly “toxic” parents.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … Brooklyn and his wife of three years, Nicola Peltz, are fed up with the way David and Victoria Beckham treat them — especially after they’ve tried to patch up their relationship several times, to no avail. Here’s what we know … Nicola doesn’t appreciate the way “narcissistic” David and Victoria treat her hubby, and she’s the first romantic partner of his to put her foot down, which they don’t like.

As you know … there have been years of rumors that Victoria and Nicola don’t get along, and, we’re told the fashion designer thinks Nicola stole her precious son from her — and even stirred the pot by interrupting their first dance as a couple at their 2022 wedding by running up to the dance floor and basically pushing Nicola away. This apparently left her in tears. Remember … Nicola went on the record squashing chatter that there were hiccups in their relationship — and even gave a story about why Victoria didn’t design her wedding gown. Of course, not everyone bought that at the time.

As for David, TMZ is told by a source that he “verbally berates” Brooklyn on the phone … but Victoria tries to smooth things over by immediately sending Nicola a loving text so there’s no proof the former soccer pro “didn’t just scream at Brooklyn for an hour.”

That being said, Nicola and Brooklyn are “devastated” by “performative” David and Victoria’s behavior and feel they are choosing to scapegoat Nicola rather than sit down and talk through their issues.

Our insider says the young couple “have made themselves available for months and months to discuss all of the ongoing drama,” but that David and Victoria refuse to talk with her around “because she always talks back to them and stands up for Brooklyn.”

Adding more salt to the wound, we’re told Nicola believes she’s always supported her hubby’s family by attending Victoria’s fashion shows and promoting her products on social media, but doesn’t get the same treatment. For instance, our source says Nicola asked Victoria to promote her dog rescue, Yogi’s House, during the L.A. wildfires in January … but Victoria apparently blamed her social media coordinator by saying “she’s not posting content right now.”

It definitely sounds like Brooklyn and Nicola are positioning themselves as the Harry & Meghan of the Beckham royal family. A scapegoat son married a woman who is disliked by his family, and the son wants to reconcile and work through the family issues but his father prefers to “berate” him. Pretty soon, David’s going to take away Brooklyn’s security! I jest, but Brooklyn and Nicola should be thankful that they’re building their lives in America, away from Brooklyn’s “toxic” family, I guess. I don’t think the Beckhams were prepared for Brooklyn to marry a young woman who comes from money, who has her own American network and power base, etc. Of course, I’ve thought this whole time that David and Victoria have an issue with Brooklyn growing up and being independent. Like, that’s what this is fundamentally about (from where I sit).
