Eva Mendes models for Stella McCartney on her 51st birthday: ‘I’ve never felt sexier’

Eva Mendes turned 51 on March 5. Last year, hubby Ryan Gosling reportedly made her milestone 50th “very special.” This year, however, Eva gave us a gift (yes, that was a terrible segue; I’ll see myself out in a minute). In honor of her birthday, Eva announced that she’s once again working with Stella McCartney, this time on the designer’s summer campaign. In an Instagram post in which she joked that her “new campaign and…new age” just dropped, Eva appears in a sheer black maxi dress that costs $3,600. Declaring that she’s “never felt sexier,” she also praises SM for her cruelty-free designs.

Eva Mendes is celebrating her birthday in style. “My new campaign and my new age just dropped!” the actress-turned-author, who turned 51 on Wednesday, captioned Instagram photos from Stella McCartney’s summer 2025 ads.

Mendes struck a pose in a sheer silk maxi dress ($3,600) with a single cape sleeve, high-slit skirt and wrapped and knotted details.

“I’m 51 today and so grateful for all the reasons,” the former actress continued in the caption. “Especially grateful to @stellamccartney for making the most beautiful, cruelty free clothing that I feel so great in.”

Though she’s partnered with “amazing designers” throughout her career, Mendes says she’s “never felt sexier” than when she’s wearing McCartney’s creations.

“I hate that I can’t be there at your fashion show today but I have the best reason in the world -I’m with my family,” she added — referring to Stella McCartney’s fall 2025 presentation, which took place in Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday.

“Sending out loads of love today and every day ????????,” Mendes ended her caption.

“51 never looked so good ????????,” one user commented. A second said, “51….and fabulous ????”

This isn’t the first time the mother of two has fronted the luxury label’s buzzy shoots.

Mendes was the star of Stella McCartney’s winter 2024 campaign, “It’s About F—g Time,” modeling earth-friendly looks like a croc-embossed trench coat ($6,000) and pale pink fuzzy jacket.

“Being involved with such an environmentally conscious brand that is cruelty free in all ways has been a game changer for me on a cellular level,” Mendes wrote an Instagram at the time, reflecting on the opportunity.

51 and fabulous indeed! Eva looks so freaking gorgeous. It’s not fair! Of course she looks good in Stella McCartney. Is there anything she doesn’t look good wearing? I don’t generally love a lot of Stella’s designs, but I scrolled through some of her other posts from SM campaigns, and Eva makes them all look good, even the more ridiculous ones, haha. It’s also cool that Stella is so committed to being so environmentally conscious. As for Eva’s actual birthday festivities, according to that post, she spent the day with her family, presumably including Ryan and their daughters Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, eight. They’re so family-oriented that this doesn’t surprise me at all! I hope they had a fun day together.

Eva Mendes Ryan Gosling SNL

Eva Mendes loved Ryan Gosling’s SNL skit where he spoke in a Cuban accent

Let’s talk more about Ryan Gosling’s hilarious hosting gig on the April 14 episode of SNL! One of the sketches that’s flown a bit under the radar so far is “Can’t Tonight,” featuring Ryan, Keenan Thompson, and Marcello Hernández as three men with heavy Latino accents. Thompson and Hernández’s characters are Dominican and Cuban, respectively. Ryan’s character is from Tennessee, but because he married a Cuban woman, he’s been changed and now speaks like a “Cuban Papi.” And yes, Ryan broke character to laugh on his very first line when he revealed his Cuban accent, haha.

The premise is that Ryan and Hernández’s characters are trying to convince Thompson’s character to go out to the club with them that night, to party with “Eva Mendes, Margot Robbie, and the original dog from Beethoven.” It’s very clear that the entire sketch is a loving, funny reference to Eva and Ryan’s relationship, as well as how well Ryan fits in with Eva’s Cuban family. Eva loved it so much that she posted the entire thing to her Instagram account on Tuesday, sharing how happy the sketch made her.

Eva Mendes is chiming in after Ryan Gosling gave her a sweet hat tip while hosting Saturday Night Live. Mendes, 50, took to Instagram on Tuesday, April 16, to share a clip of Gosling, 43, paying homage to their relationship during his recent hosting gig on the comedy show. The Barbie star used a Latino accent while appearing alongside Kenan Thompson and Marcello Hernández in the sketch “Can’t Tonight,” prompting Thompson, 45, to note that Gosling’s character “is from Tennessee, but ever since he married a Cuban woman, he’s different.

Gosling responded, “A Cuban wife can change you,” adding that he began to speak like a “Cuban papi.” Thompson and Hernández’s characters attempt to persuade their pal to hit the town, noting that Mendes was going to be at the club they were planning to go to.

Mendes, who is of Cuban descent, applauded the sketch on Tuesday, writing, “My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this!!”

She added, “Years of hanging out with my Dad paid off. Gracias to the super talented @marcellohdz for this skit. The way you say ‘Eva Mendes’ ????! And @kenanthompson always crushing.”

Hernández offered love right back to Mendes in the comments section. “Un abrazo a el gósling y a ti Eva!,” he wrote, which translates to “A hug for the Gosling and for you Eva!”

[From Us Weekly]

When I first watched this sketch, my mind immediately went to Eva and I knew she’d love it. Like every sketch that episode, it was really funny. The only thing that was missing was Ryan doing the salsa, wink, wink. I also figured that there was no way they’d have even done it if Ryan felt like it would have upset her or her family. I bet her family absolutely loved it, too. Did you also catch when Ryan gave shoutouts to Eva and their two daughters, Esmerelda, nine, and Amada, seven, during the goodbye portion of the show? As for the rest of the sketch, I had no idea where the part about the “original dog from Beethoven” was going to go and laughed so hard when we got the punchline. One of my long-standing problems with SNL has been that they sometimes cannot close out a sketch to save their lives, yet they nailed it almost every time during Ryan’s episode.

Eva Mendes’s brother: Ryan Gosling loves the Latin lifestyle, the salsa, the Spanish

During awards season, there was a renewed interest in Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ relationship. Ryan and Eva have a long-standing policy of not walking red carpets together. They’re also very private about their home life in general. Ahead of the Oscars, there was a lot of “will they/won’t they” speculation about whether or not they’d make an exception, but they did not. Instead, Ryan went with his mom, stepfather, and sister while Eva and their daughters, Esmeralda, nine, and Amada, seven, watched Ryan’s final dress rehearsal for “I’m Just Ken.” After the ceremony, a source explained that they don’t do red carpets because Eva is over that noise and “still sees it as a job.”

While Ryan may have not taken Eva to this year’s Oscars, he took her brother, Carlo Mendez, to the SAG Awards. Carlo is also an actor and has been active in film and television for almost 20 years. He’s currently promoting his new movie, a noir thriller called Demise. During an exclusive interview with E! News, Carlo confirmed just what we all hoped would be true: That Ryan is an awesome person who fits right in with the Mendes family.

“Ryan is an awesome, funny, down-to-earth guy,” Carlo shared. “I cannot say enough about him, and I’m really learning a lot from him. Just an amazing guy.”

After Ryan forever-connected with Eva while making The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and met her family, “he immediately fit in,” Carlos said. “He loves the whole Latin lifestyle, the salsa, the Spanish, the Cuban—he loves all that stuff. So, he fit in like a glove.”

Carlo and Eva have another sister, Janet Levy, while their eldest sibling, Juan Carlos Méndez Jr., died in 2016 at the age of 53 after battling throat cancer. Carlo wears a little vial of his big brother’s ashes around his neck to keep him close.

So Ryan getting along with everyone, including Eva’s dad Juan Carlos Méndez and mom Eva Perez Suarez, was no small thing for the family-centric actress, who pressed pause on her movie career to focus on raising their daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7.

While fatherhood isn’t something Carlo is planning on at the moment—”If it happens, it happens”—the 46-year-old is content being the fun uncle to Eva’s kids, as well as his 17 other nieces and nephews.

Uncle Carlo may even be too fun, he acknowledged, but “I just love joking around! It lifts your spirits to make people laugh, smile and just be uplifting and help people believe in themselves.”

[From E! News]

I freaking love this! Getting along with your in-laws isn’t always easy, especially when you’re entering into a close-knit family that has its own traditions. I can see how it would be intimidating trying to navigate fitting in with and respectfully assimilating to a new culture. This is not exactly the same thing, but I come from a big yet close Italian-American family (my mom and her cousins all grew up in the same neighborhood). Poor Mr. Rosie had to learn the names of like 29 aunts, uncles, and cousins when he went to a family wedding a few months after we started dating. He also had to use that Catholic school education to charm a few family members, lol. And although he always threatened to get them, he never actually used earplugs when around all of us.

But back to Ryan and the Mendes family! They sound like they would be really fun and the good kind of chaotic to be around. I would kill to be a fly on the wall of one of their big family dinners or get togethers just to hang out, eat good food, dance, etc. I know that there’s zero chance of this ever happening but I would die if Eva or Carlo ever posted a video of Ryan doing the salsa. Please, someone, make this happen.

Ryan Gosling says Eva Mendes and his daughters gave him Oscars performance tips

Another awards season has come and gone. And with that, some actors are back to work. After the Oscars, Ryan Gosling headed out to SXSW for the premiere of his new movie The Fall Guy (more on that in Kismet’s coverage here). While there, Ryan gave People some more behind-the-scenes info about his awesome performance of “I’m Just Ken,” which brought the house down. We know that Eva Mendes was backstage to support Ryan at some point because she posted pictures to Instagram. I’ve been trying to find an official confirmation as to whether or not Eva was there during the actual ceremony. I suspect, though, based on her clothing and caption telling him to come home and “put the kids to bed,” that the pictures were taken at the final dress rehearsal.

This may be as close to a confirmation that we’re going to get, but during his interview, Ryan told People that Eva and his daughters sat in the front row at a dress rehearsal the day before the ceremony. They also gave him plenty of notes on his performance. Eva and Ryan have two daughters together, Esmeralda Amada, nine, and Amada Lee, seven.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the world premiere of The Fall Guy at SXSW in Austin on Tuesday, Gosling, 43, opened up about how he got some crucial advice from his long-term partner Eva Mendes and their daughters Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7, ahead of the show.

“It was great,” the Barbie star tells PEOPLE. “It was so fun because they came to the dress rehearsal the day before and so they were in the front row. ”

“They gave me some tips and some notes, all great notes,” he continues. “They are such a huge part of this for me…it was my girl’s interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end.”

Gosling stole the show at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday with his live performance of “I’m Just Ken” which lost out to the Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For?” for the award of Best Original Song.

The actor was accompanied by song co-writer Mark Ronson, Wolfgang Van Halen, Slash and a group of men dressed in suits and cowboy hats for the performance — including his fellow ‘Kens’ Scott Evans, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Ncuti Gatwa.

Reacting to a video of Martin Scorsese vibing to the performance inside the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, Mendes, 50, later wrote that the Instagram re-post by Francesca Scorsese’s was “the best video ever.”

[From People]

Awww, that’s so sweet and great that they got to come and watch the dress rehearsal. I wonder if friends at school have talked to them about Barbie and if that’s piqued their interest in it more or less, lol. Ryan has talked about how his daughters influenced and inspired him to play Ken, particularly when he realized that they loved their Barbies, but didn’t care so much about Ken (he was always number two). So it’s a nice ending to his journey as Ken that they would also be there to support him and give him some last-minute tips and pointers. What a nice little full circle moment for the Mendes-Goslings.

Eva Mendes didn’t go to the Oscars with Ryan Gosling after all

Last week, we wondered whether or not Eva Mendes would walk the red carpet with Ryan Gosling. Ryan and Eva have a long-established policy of not walking red carpets together, but I really thought they would do it. Alas, I was wrong! The streak continues. Instead, Ryan took his sister, Mandi, and his mom, Donna, and her husband as his dates. While Eva didn’t walk the red carpet with her man, she was backstage at some point, cheering him on. Eva posted some pictures in Ryan’s dressing room, including one of her wearing the sparkly pink jacket from Ryan’s amaaazing performance of “I’m Just Ken,” which was literally everything I wanted it to be and so much more.

Eva Mendes kept it low-key at the 2024 Oscars — but still found a way to show up for longtime love Ryan Gosling.

Mendes, 50, opted to skip the red carpet at the Sunday, March 10, awards show, instead choosing to support Gosling, 43, from backstage. Prior to the ceremony, the actress took to Instagram to share a photo of herself outside Gosling’s dressing room, captioning the post, “Always by my man.”

After Gosling took the stage to sing his Barbie Oscar-nominated song, “I’m Just Ken,” Mendes posted a second behind-the-scenes Instagram snap where she donned the bright pink-studded suit jacket, black cowboy hat and matching sunnies that the actor wore during his performance.

“You took Ken all the way to the Oscars, RG,” she wrote alongside the event pic. “Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed.”

“I’m Just Ken” was up for Best Original Song at the 96th Academy Awards, ultimately losing out to another Barbie track, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made for?” which was the film’s only win of the night.

Barbie received eight nominations in total, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Gosling also received a Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination for the role of Ken, a win that went to Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer.

Sunday’s ceremony wraps up this year’s awards circuit for Gosling and his Barbie castmates. Despite the film’s global success — it brought in more than $1 billion at the box office — Mendes’ brother, Carlo Mendez, exclusively told Us Weekly that Gosling’s main focus will always be parenting his daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7.

[From US Weekly]

You know, I have to admire the decade-plus commitment to not walking a red carpet together. It was nice to see that Eva was there to support Ryan regardless! The Instagrams were posted before the ceremony, and she’s not dressed like she’s at the Oscars, so my guess is that she was at a final dress rehearsal. I searched around but couldn’t find confirmation either way. And while it would have been amazing to get a new Eva red carpet fashion moment, the picture of her wearing the pink Ken jacket was awesome, too. It makes me wonder if Ryan got to take that sparkly jacket home, hehe.

Speaking of “I’m Just Ken,” a video is going around from Francesca Scorsese, who filmed her dad Martin reacting to the performance. It’s pretty damn delightful. Some of Ryans’ performances from the Mickey Mouse Club back in the day have also resurfaced. Vanity Fair has a great piece that talks about how the entire “I’m Just Ken” performance came together. Most of it was Ryan’s idea, including honoring Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” performance, the bit with the cameraman, and having Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig, America Ferrara, and Emma Stone participate in the singalong. I love that so much.

People are wondering if Eva Mendes will go to the Oscars with Ryan Gosling

Last week, “multiple reports” said that Ryan Gosling would be performing Best Original Song nominee “I’m Just Ken” at the Academy Awards on March 10. Ahhh, I can’t wait! Gosling was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor alongside America Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress. Given that this could potentially be a big Oscars year for him, people are starting to wonder/question/hope that his wife, Eva Mendes, will accompany him to this year’s ceremony. Eva and Ryan have a policy of not walking red carpets together. They’re also rarely papped together or with their daughters Esmerelda, nine, and Amada, seven. But given the circumstances of Ryan’s performance and nomination, and Eva’s very public support for her man’s role, it’s feeling like it could be a realistic possibility.

If Eva Mendes is ever going to be Ryan Gosling’s date to an awards show, seemingly this year’s Oscars would be the time to make that move. He’s not only nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Barbie, his third career nod, but he’s set to perform Best Original Song contender “I’m Just Ken,” which is just a little cup of everything to look forward to at the March 10 ceremony. But should Mendes continue to sit this one—i.e. awards season—out, it means nothing as far as the overall health of their decade-plus relationship. Rather…status quo, friends. Status quo.

Because, in case you hadn’t noticed in the almost 13 years the parents of daughters Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7, have been a couple, they don’t do red carpets. They last took a photo on one at the March 28, 2013, New York premiere of the film that brought them together, The Place Beyond the Pines.

And not that Mendes, who’s celebrating her 50th birthday March 5, was ever the most splashily out there of actresses, but once she and Gosling became an item she started paring back considerably on public appearances and rededicated her social media to business pursuits.

“Mami’s first fashion week in over 10 years!,” she posted to Instagram Feb. 24, along with a series of shots showing her all dolled up for Dolce & Gabbana’s show during Milan Fashion Week. “Yup, I haven’t gone to a fashion event since I’ve been a Mama. Time flies when you’re mommying.”

Of course, it’s not as if her 6 million followers haven’t been treated to an array of eye candy over the years, Mendes being a style and beauty icon, after all. But it was some time before she re-cracked the window into her private world. And that didn’t always go so well, people being awfully quick with a bad take or nasty comment in this day and age. Not usually one to wade into the fray, in early 2021 Mendes clapped back at a commenter who had speculated that she wasn’t posting much because she’d had “work done” and was unhappy with the results.

“I’m posting less because I really want to be present for my family,” the Hitch actress interjected. “My little ones need me and posting takes up too much time. As far as getting work done, I’ll do that whenever I please. But no, that’s not the reason. The reason is I personally cannot juggle family and social media.”

But Mendes has steadily opened up more about being a mom and is inclined to give Gosling—”Mi Hombre, Mi Vida, Mi Amor”—more public shows of support, as well.

[From ET Online]

So personally, I think that this is the year that Eva and Ryan will make an exception to their no red carpets rule, but I’m curious to hear where others stand. Eva’s been so vocal and outwardly proud of Ryan’s work in Barbie that I think if there was ever going to be a time they actually walk a red carpet together, it’s for this nomination in this role. And he’s performing “I’m Just Ken” live, for goodness sake! Plus, I feel like Eva, who is hands down one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, is itching to give us a good awards show fashion moment. Okay, well, maybe I’m projecting just a little bit with that last argument because I’m personally dying for a new Eva fashion moment, but my opinion still stands. That’s my prediction and I’m sticking to it.

Eva Mendes doesn’t like it when Ryan Gosling does dishes: ‘that’s my thing’

Eva Mendes and her daughters Esmerelda, seven and Amada, six, are temporarily living in England with Ryan Gosling while he films his latest project. It’s nice that they can relocate as a family and work around everyone’s schedules. Including Eva’s, who made a quick trip to New York to film a segment with Hoda Kotb on TODAY to promote Eva’s new antimicrobial sponge. They ended up not talking too much about the sponge, which you can read about here, because they had a lot of other fun things to talk about instead. One of the things they discussed was about Eva’s connection to a clean house and I could almost relate to all of it. For the first half of her answer, I was with Eva 100%. Then she said she found dishwashing meditative, and I was like, hold up – what? But when she said she kicked Ryan out of the kitchen for doing the dishes because it was her thing, I had to tear up the Hecate’s BFF 4Eva t-shirts I’d made because what?!

Hoda Kotb: I love that one of the things that you’re obsessed with in your home is cleaning.

Eva Mendes: So I don’t love cleaning as much, I do love a clean house and equate it to my mental well-being. If my house is clean, I’m doing well. For me the kitchen is my domain and my sink, if my sink or when my sink is clean, I can sleep better, once my dishes are done. I find doing the dishes meditative.

Hoda: Oh, you do? Does Ryan love to do the dishes?

Eva: Ryan likes to get in there, but I think it’s unfair of him because he knows it’s my thing. I’ll walk into the kitchen and he’s doing the dishes and I’m like, ‘what are you doing?’ ‘I’m doing the dishes.’ I’m like, ‘Why, that’s my thing! You’re doing it right in front of me. So disrespectful. Get out.’

[From TODAY via YouTube]

Like Eva, I don’t like cleaning my house, but I am affected when my house is not orderly. I happen to be a lousy housekeeper, but I am constantly putting everything back in its place because, as Eva described, the visual chaos agitates me. But that’s where Eva and I part ways. I clock out after dinner. Everyone is responsible for putting their dinner dishes in the dishwasher but everything else waits until I clock back in at 5AM the next morning. And I loathe doing the dishes. Just thinking about the act as I write this has me furrowing my brow. If Ryan Gosling stepped in my kitchen and washed so much as a juice glass, I’d build an altar to him next to the coffee maker. I get what Eva is saying, though. My meditative thing was walking the dog, but the dog could always go out for a walk so even if someone else took him out, I could take him again. If Eva finds peace in doing the dishes and looks forward to those moments of mindfulness, I understand her objection. I have to believe Ryan is doing it to be helpful, though. Like, maybe he’s just doing his dishes because he doesn’t want to leave a dirty kitchen. What I wouldn’t give to find dishwashing enjoyable… or to find anyone at my sink cleaning my dishes.

The interview ended with Hoda asking Eva who she wanted to wish a Happy Mother’s Day. Eva said her mother, also named Eva. So Hoda wished Mamma Eva Suarez and very Happy Mother’s Day. Eva emotionally thanked Hoda, saying, “She’s not doing too well right now, so, it means a lot to me. She’s a survivor in every way, thank you.” She didn’t elaborate but Hoda saw that Eva was quite affected and quietly asked if she was okay. Then Hoda popped up and gave Eva a big hug as the interview ended. It was a lovely moment. Here’s sending much love and well-wishes to both Evas.
