In the 2010s, Katy Perry was involved in a pretty significant real estate dispute over a former convent in Los Angeles. I won’t get into the years-long saga of it all, but the basic gist was that the LA archdiocese sold the property to Katy, much to the dismay of a couple of elderly nuns who lived in the convent and didn’t like Katy’s provocative music and vibe. One of the nuns literally collapsed and died in court during the lawsuit. Some believe those nuns put a curse on Katy. I sort of believe that, because Katy’s real estate woes continue to this day. Years ago, Katy and Orlando moved full time to Montecito, where Katy began investing in several properties. In 2020, she bought a $15 million home from Carl Westcott, who then tried to rescind the contract. So they’re in court still, and Katy testified in the years-long legal issue this week.

Katy Perry appeared in court to testify in the ongoing legal battle over the purchase of her $15 million mansion in Montecito, Calif. The singer appeared in Los Angeles court via Zoom on Tuesday, Aug. 26, and was questioned about the 2020 purchase of the California estate.

Perry, 40, and Orlando Bloom purchased the 1930s Montecito mansion from entrepreneur Carl Westcott for $15 million, according to court documents previously obtained by PEOPLE. However, Westcott — who was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, a genetic brain disorder, in 2015 — sought to rescind the contract after claiming he “lacked capacity” to sign the transaction. In the years since, Westcott, who is the founder of 1-800-Flowers, filed suit against Perry’s business manager Bernie Gudvi in August 2020.

After a years-long legal battle, Perry prevailed at a prior trial on the issue of liability, and in May 2024, Perry gained ownership of the Santa Barbara County property under the LLC DDoveB, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing property records. A judge ruled that “Westcott presented no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract…” He also ruled that there was significant evidence to demonstrate Westcott knowingly signed the contract, noting he seemed to be “coherent, engaged, lucid, and rational.”

The judge has since bifurcated the case. The singer is now seeking more than $5 million in damages, alleging $3 million will cover her loss of rental income. On Tuesday, Westcott’s attorney, Andrew J. Thomas, questioned Perry about what she has to gain from the litigation.

“Justice,” she simply replied. But Thomas asked, “How about money?”

“I stand to lose money if it doesn’t work in my favor,” she said.

She was also asked if she has “a financial stake of any kind in the outcome of this lawsuit.” Perry confirmed she does, explaining that the financial stake for her, “could be lost money, lawyers’ fees, lost income for rental.”

You guys know I’m loath to give Katy the benefit of the doubt on most things, but I’m actually fine with all of this? Katy has every right to sue this guy, and she entered into the contract in good faith. I don’t think it’s weird or bad for her to acknowledge that Carl Westcott tried to screw her over and break a legal contract, and that the years of legal wrangling cost her. Yes, she’s a millionaire and she doesn’t “need” the money, but it’s the principle of the thing. I honestly felt sorry for her with the nuns too – Katy believed she was purchasing that LA property in good faith as well.

Of all of the couple announcements/updates we got this week, I’m still the most surprised by the Katy Perry-Justin Trudeau thing. Katy and the former Canadian prime minister were seen dining in Montreal, and TMZ had some exclusive photos. Trudeau has been separated from his wife Sophie for years, and Katy never married Orlando Bloom, but their split is more recent. There are two technically single people, but I just feel like… what in the world do they have in common? What do they talk about? Well, according to the Sun’s insiders, Justin is enamored. Really? Her?

Justin Trudeau is looking forward to spending more time with Katy Perry after ‘really clicking’ during a Montreal dinner date, two sources close to the former Canadian Prime Minister have told The U.S. Sun. The Sun has been told by two of Trudeau’s close associates that he wants to see the singer, who has been described as a “breath of fresh air,” again.

Trudeau separated from Sophie, his wife of 18 years, in 2023 and, according to our insiders, loved talking about a variety of topics with the 40 year-old star. The U.S. Sun understands the pair have been in contact for weeks after meeting at an event, and both share a common interest in trying to make the world a better place. Trudeau had hoped a quiet night in Montreal would have helped make the night more private. But with pics of the pair appearing on TMZ, their secret is out.

“Justin always enjoys nice company, and Katy is the kind of woman that really caught his attention,” the first source who worked with Trudeau while he was in office, told The U.S. Sun. “Justin has been single for a while and has enjoyed getting to know her. He likes her personality, and they are two people who really enjoy chatting about different topics, and they click very well so far, as they are going to see each other again very soon.”

Trudeau reportedly picked up the tab, which included lobster and cocktails, before showing their gratitude to the kitchen staff. The source says that although any hopes of keeping the dinner date under wraps were dashed, the 53-year-old politician doesn’t regret anything.

There are plans in the works for the pair to connect again in the United States, where he will be spending large amounts of time in the coming months.

“Whatever happens, happens. He is a single man, so is on the market and ready to start something new with a woman after a few rough moments after splitting from his wife,” continued the well-placed source. “He is feeling that talking to her and getting to know her is very refreshing, like a breath of fresh air in his life. He was happy to connect with her so well, and that she appreciates him being a normal, respectful person who was very understanding of her recent separation with Orlando Bloom. He isn’t the kind of guy that would rush things, and she seems to enjoy that a lot. It’s a gentlemanly way to behave.”

I can understand this coupling more from Katy’s perspective – Justin must seem worldly, intelligent, respectful and much more mature than her exes. But from Justin’s perspective? Why attach himself to Katy Perry of all people? Like, Katy has been a celebrity for what? Fifteen years or more. We know who she is and all of the sh-t she’s said and done. Her last album flopped largely because the culture has moved past Katy. Still, I just don’t understand how this even happened, how it started and why there’s even a conversation about a future together? Do they not understand how weird this is??

Summer gossip stories are becoming increasingly bizarre, right? Whatever happened to “two crazy 20-somethings have an international love affair which ends in tears as soon as the Halloween decorations come out?” Instead, we have this… Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau. Are people choosing their lovers by picking names out of a hat? Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire separated in 2023, although I do not think their divorce has been finalized whatsoever. Sophie is dating a surgeon in Ottawa. Justin has not been publicly involved with anyone since his marriage fell apart. But now he’s going out on dates with freshly single Katy Perry? I thought Katy and Orlando Bloom were done and dusted months ago, but they only officially announced their split one month ago!

Katy Perry is saying “bon appétit” to Justin Trudeau … as the pair was seen chowing down at a swanky restaurant in Montreal. In new footage — obtained by TMZ — the pop star and former Canadian Prime Minister were seen dining together Monday night at Le Violon.

Katy appears interested in what Trudeau has to say, leaning in across the table during what looks like a thoughtful conversation. An eyewitness tells us the two sipped cocktails and shared several dishes … including one with lobster.

Apparently, security guards were keeping tabs on both of them … sitting at the bar with their backs turned, monitoring the date through the mirrored glass. At one point, we’re told the chef came to greet the duo … and after their meal, KP and JT made their way to the kitchen to thank the staff personally.

Katy’s making her way through Canada while on tour … performing tonight in Ottawa, with another show tomorrow back in Montreal.

I have so many questions about how this happened. How did they even meet? Who set this up? Who made the dinner invitation? Which one of them brought security, Trudeau or Katy? Interestingly enough, there’s no code of omerta among Canadian restauranteurs, because the rep for La Violon told People Magazine that “Katy and Justin seemed to have had a fantastic evening. They were super kind and friendly to the staff, and it was an absolute pleasure to have them at the restaurant.” The rep also said that they met Chef Danny Smiles and went to the kitchen to thank the staff personally.

In case you’re wondering about the ages… Justin is 53, Katy is 40. He seems like he should be older because he’s been in politics for so long, and Katy seems younger because she’s an immature idiot. I hate this for both of them!

Last week, we finally got a loosey-goosey “confirmation” for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s split. The breakup had been telegraphed in publicist-spoon-fed articles for weeks, and even when the confirmation came, Katy and Orlando still didn’t issue an actual statement about it. I have no idea why they seem so adverse to a simple joint statement of “we’re over but we still have a lot of love for each other and we’re committed to co-parenting.” The only reason why they can’t do that is probably because they can’t even agree on it? So instead of that, we’re getting more publicist-led quotes to People Mag:

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom experienced issues for years before they reached their breaking point. Last week, PEOPLE confirmed the the pair have split after nine years together on and off. Now sources are revealing what went wrong.

“Katy and Orlando have been suffering through the same problems that have plagued them for years,” a source tells PEOPLE. “[They had] too much going on in their lives, which makes it hard to find time for each other and iron out disagreements. When they don’t communicate properly, their relationship dips to a low level.”

Before the split, the “Teenage Dream” hitmaker, 40, and the Lord of the Rings star, 48, had “been living on an island of stress,” the source adds. “Things have been rocky.”

A film source tells PEOPLE that the split has been “sad and unpleasant,” but Perry and Bloom are focused on co-parenting their daughter Daisy Dove, 4.

“Sometimes love isn’t enough to keep two people with different styles and outlooks on how things are done [together],” the film source adds. “It can overshadow the love.”

Honestly? I imagine they’re both pretty difficult to live with in different ways. Katy would drive me up the wall, and Orlando probably would too. “[They had] too much going on in their lives…” Did they? Really? Orlando doesn’t work that much. Katy has been busy this whole time, even if her last album flopped. Like, even after she welcomed Daisy, Katy was still working a lot and touring a lot. Which is a different thing altogether, when Katy is super-busy and Orlando… isn’t.

People Mag also had a story about Katy and Orlando wanting to protect Daisy and finally admitting to themselves that they would be better parents to her if they split up, with one source saying: “At a certain point, they had to admit it’s better for Daisy to see their parents separately, then she won’t grow up feeling the tension and animosity.” Which is something I wish more couples would understand – nothing f–ks up a family more than “staying together for the kids.” Now Daisy gets to see her parents behave like adults who can negotiate a coparenting partnership while exploring their freedom away from another.

Well, it’s been heavily previewed for the past two weeks, and here’s our big confirmation: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are over, completely done. In recent weeks, we’ve heard a steady stream of seemingly authorized leaks to People, Us Weekly, TMZ and Page Six about the separation or split. Orlando and Katy never married, although they were engaged for a good chunk of their (on-and-off) nine-year relationship.

Orlando Bloom is psyched to let loose at the Bezos/Sanchez wedding, and all indications are … he’s now a single man.


Sources in the know tell TMZ … Orlando may make his debut as a single man during the festivities. As one source put it, “He’s the life of the party and he’s gonna hit the dance floor hard!”

We’re told Orlando might even sneak away with Leo DiCaprio for some bar crawling!

There’s been a lot of speculation Orlando and Katy Perry have split, and as we first reported … she’s not attending the wedding.


KP is in the middle of her world tour, but there’s clearly trouble in paradise, and our sources say that could be very apparent during this week’s festivities in Venice.

One source tells TMZ, “90% of the people at the wedding are kinda boring, but 10% are really fun, including Orlando, Leo and Jeff (Bezos). It’s gonna be a great party!”

I remember when Orly and Leo DiCaprio used to hang out, it was back in the Miranda Kerr era of Orly’s life. I didn’t even know they were still friends or friendly enough to relive their glory days. Leo’s got a girlfriend though – he’s been with Vittoria Ceretti for about two full years now. Vittoria is Italian AND 27-years-old. Which means… she’s probably invited to the Bezos-Sanchez wedding too, and thus, Leo might not have time to hang out with newly single Orlando Bloom. Anyway, I still don’t really understand why now, why this breakup rollout, and what’s driving this, but I accept that Katy and Orlando are done and it’s probably better for both of them.

Katy Perry is legitimately friends with Lauren Sanchez. Katy joined the all-female Blue Origin space flight in April along with Lauren, and Katy was also one of the celebrities invited to Lauren’s multi-day bachelorette party in Paris back in May. They really are friends, but Katy isn’t interrupting her tour schedule to attend Lauren’s crazy, multi-day Venice wedding next week. So Katy’s somewhat estranged husband Orlando Bloom will go in Katy’s place.

Orlando Bloom is on the ultra high-profile guest list for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s approaching wedding … and TMZ has learned the actor’s going stag amid rumors of his relationship with Katy Perry getting rocky.

Sources tell TMZ … OB plans to attend the days-long wedding celebration in Venice, Italy, taking place later this month … and Katy ain’t going to be by his side — but in this instance, there’s a perfectly logical explanation.

Katy is currently on tour in Australia, rockin’ 15 sold-out shows — and those dates overlap with the billionaire’s bash. And Katy’s tour was planned way before Jeff and Lauren locked in their lavish European nuptials.

Still … the optics ain’t great for Katy and Orlando — the high-profile Hollywood couple has been dogged recently with rumors there’s trouble in paradise with their own engagement.

I think this one particular thing is just about Katy’s tour schedule, not her marriage and not her friendship with Lauren. In fact, it would not surprise me at all if Katy made a point of making time for Lauren’s bachelorette festivities last month because Katy knew she would have to skip the wedding. The breakup seemed to refocus them, and I’ve always sort of believed that Katy talked herself into all of it, believing that this was her chance to have a baby. Like, that was her priority – finding someone who would stick around and start a family. That’s exactly what happened, and their daughter Daisy will turn 5 years old this summer. Katy seems like she’s one-and-done on children, and her professional life is in turmoil. So… over the past week, Team Perry/Bloom has been leaking like a sieve. Suddenly, “sources close to Katy and Orlando” can’t shut up about how they’ve quietly separated and they’re living separate lives. Well, here’s the latest, from a pretty official People Mag exclusive:

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s romance is navigating troubled waters. Days after an insider told PEOPLE that the couple experienced strain in their relationship amid the release of her latest album 143, another source says there may be no turning back.

“They’re pretty much done,” a source tells PEOPLE, adding that they “don’t really see them being able to turn things around here.”

The source adds, “It’s been breaking down the last couple of months and isn’t looking good.”

Perry, 40, is on the road for her Lifetimes world tour, and the source says she and Bloom are on different pages when it comes to how they want their lives to look.

“This comeback means a lot to her. She wants to give fans the best show,” a second source tells PEOPLE of Perry, who’s currently touring Australia. “She’s happy and just focused on her tour. Her daughter [Daisy Dove, 4½] is with her and they’re sightseeing and having fun.”

Reps for Perry and Bloom, 48, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

With the stories last week, I assumed this was all Katy’s team laying the groundwork for a breakup announcement, and softening the gossip around it so the split would feel inevitable. But what if I’m wrong? What if these stories are coming from Orlando? If Daisy is on tour with Katy… what is he doing with his time? Is he leaving her? It will be interesting to see how it plays out once they make this breakup official, which will probably be any day now.
