Pregnant Hilary Duff gets acupuncture: ‘trying to give baby the eviction notice’

It feels like it’s only been a few weeks since Hilary Duff announced her pregnancy with husband Matthew Koma. But I checked and her pregnancy announcement came in mid-December. Geeze, time flies. Hilary has three children: Luca Cruz, 12, with ex-husband Mike Comrie, and Banks Violet, five, and Mae James, three, with Koma. She’s never shared her due date, but looks like it’s any day now. On Tuesday, Hilary posted a bunch of pictures to Instagram. One of those pictures was of herself with acupuncture needles in her face, saying that she was “gently trying to give the baby an eviction notice.”

Hilary Duff is sharing her acupuncture experience as she prepares to welcome her fourth baby. The actress, 36, shared a carousel post on Tuesday, April 16, that featured her undergoing the treatment. Tagging @goldenmonkeyhealing in the snap, Duff closed her eyes as she lay down.

“Pretty slow week around here. And gently trying to give baby the eviction notice,” Duff’s caption read as needles poked from her forehead, head and cheekbones.

Meanwhile, the slideshow also featured a snap of salad from Caioti Pizza in Los Angeles, as well as photos of her children, husband Matthew Koma and their pet cat and dog. Duff also included a photo of her posing in front of a Cadillac, which she also shared on her Instagram Stories.

“Had the pleasure of driving this girl around while i have been needing some extra space from paps nearing the end of my pregnancy,” the Lizzie McGuire alum wrote across the photo. “I will especially miss the cooler in this gal! @cadillac thanks for the peace and quiet these last few weeks.”

Earlier this month, Duff shared an Instagram post featuring many photos of her and Koma. She also opened up about her thoughts on soon welcoming her fourth baby.

“4 kids is a truly wild choice,” her caption read before praising her beau. “And while you rage the farmers market with the kids after 4 nights of shows and late nights so I can get some sleep and not hear mom mom mama mommy mooooom just know this only works because of you ♥️.”

“Also on a separate note … ” Duff added. “Why can I sleep during the day this late in pregnancy and not at night ????????‍????.”

While there’s no conclusive evidence that acupuncture can help induce labor, some studies have found that it can help ready your cervix for labor. Just like with some of the other methods that women try, it’s always anecdotal. And hey, I get it. Those final weeks when you’re just waiting for the baby to come feel like they’re taking forever. At least, they did for me! You get to a point where you’re over being pregnant and just want them to get here already, so you can finally meet them and start the next chapter of life. My younger son was almost a week late and they wanted to induce me once I hit 41 weeks. I tried doing all of the things I did to coax my older son out – I took walks on hills, ate spicy food, etc. – and nothing worked. Finally, when I was 40w5d, I got a prenatal massage that focused on pressure points to induce labor. I’ll never know if it actually worked but I did go into labor the following day, so I’d like to think that it did and was a very well-spent $100, lol.

Meanwhile, Hilary has also prepared for birth by making a 53-song playlist, joking that she’s “manifesting a short birth, as I only made it three hours.” It includes songs such as Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” Beyonce’s “CUFF IT,” Taylor Swift’s “‘Tis the Damn Season,” Aretha Franklin’s “Baby, I Love You,” Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More,” and of course, “Sha La La” by Koma’s band Winnetka Bowling League. Best of luck to Hilary for a quick and easy birth! May she only have to get through the playlist once.

Hilary Duff and her family went to Disneyland, got covid

Hilary Duff has had a busy few weeks. She helped Target promote a giveaway, announced that she was pregnant with her 4th child, and took a family trip to Disneyland. Unfortunately for Hilary, her next adventure is… Covid! The day after posting pictures of her family at Disneyland, Duff shared that she and husband Matthew Koma were down for the count with the ole ‘rona. Thankfully, none of her kids have tested positive, although that has made taking care of a five and two-year-old a bit challenging for the couple.

Hilary Duff recently got a positive pregnancy test — and now she has a positive COVID test to go with it.

“We have Covid and our kids don’t so now we wear masks again ????,” Duff, 36, wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, December 14, alongside a video of herself and husband Matthew Koma chilling in bed with face masks on.

“Someone’s gonna be a DJ again,” Duff added, panning the camera to show Koma, also 36, playing a tune on a portable sampler.

“Why are you putting me on blast like that?” Koma shot back playfully. “I’m just trying to have a little fun in my undies.”

The health update comes one day after Duff shared Instagram photos from a trip to Disneyland with Koma and their daughters Banks, 5, and Mae, 2. (Duff also shares son Luca, 11, with ex-husband Mike Comrie.)

“@disneyland you got the sauce. It’s always an epic day of happiness, joy, wonder, surprise and calories! ☺️This time of year is my absolute favorite! You guys are so dialed. Love you, thanks for the memories ????@disneyparks,” Duff captioned the sweet snaps.

Oh man, that really stinks. In a set of Instagram stories on Sunday, Duff shared that her Covid was “brutal” this time and that she was upset to be missing out on a holiday party because she was sick. I’m glad she and Matthew are taking it seriously enough to self-quarantine and wear a mask if they have to be around their kids. I hope they’re both feeling better soon and that Banks and Mae (it doesn’t look like Luca was at Disney with them) don’t end up getting sick too.

There are so many different things going around right now, too: Covid, the flu, RSV, and other respiratory viruses. (Here’s a list of things you should do if you are exposed to Covid.) My son said six kids went home sick from his 4th grade class in one day last week. Being sick is no fun, especially this time of year, where there’s so many fun holiday-related things to do. Make sure you take precautions to stay healthy, get your flu shots and Covid boosters if you haven’t already, and stay home if you don’t feel well.

Hilary Duff is ‘obsessed with Target… all of a sudden you have a cart spilling over’

In today’s edition of “Stars, they’re just like us,” Hilary Duff recently gave an interview with Parade, and in the interview, she spoke about her love for Target. According to Hilary, Target trips are a family affair. For those who haven’t kept track, Hilary Duff now has three children: son Luca, 11, and daughters Banks, five, and Mae, two. I agree with Hilary, here. Target is the one store that everyone in my family is generally okay with doing errands at. It really does have something for everyone.

She’s obsessed: “I’m obsessed with Target. It is my family’s happy place. It’s pretty much the only place that we all agree to go to and want to go to as a family.”

Her favorite section is…: When it comes to shopping at Target, Duff has a few guilty pleasures. “I always hit the home decor department because I feel like the seasonal decorations are so fun, and they just fit in my home really well. So I always make a little detour and get a couple of things,” she says.

She never leaves the store without buying…: Duff points out, “You just cruise and then all of a sudden you have like a cart that’s just spilling over with stuff, so PJs, socks, clothes, snacks, workout stuff, water.” This leads her to confess the one thing she has to pick up every single time she goes on a Target run: “I always leave with a water bottle . No matter what, I’m always trying out a new kind of water bottle.”

She’s promoting a giveaway: The mom of three is also helping the retail giant spread joy this holiday season by surprising Target Circle members in Los Angeles with $500 gift cards—500 other individuals who are enrolled in Target Circle by Dec. 8 will automatically be entered for a chance to win $500 in the Target Circle Holiday Giveaway sweepstakes.

[From Parade]

I get it. I grew up with my mom always taking us to Walmart, but I’ve since been converted to Target for most of my shopping. The water bottle thing is kinda odd to me, but to each their own. I can’t leave without buying at least one thing that wasn’t on my list walking in there. Just yesterday, I fell prey to their display of Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Iced Coffee. (It’s too sweet! I don’t recommend it if you’re more savory like I am.) So yeah, they get me every time, too.

Hilary isn’t alone in her Target love. Halsey’s on the record as being a big fan, as well. When my older son was born, we walked around Target a lot because he was born in June and it can get too hot to go for summertime walks outside in the South. The non-food items they sell are nicer than other big box stores like it. They also scored some big lines, like Joanna Gaines’ Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, and just added a giant Ulta Beauty section. The only store I enjoy walking around more than Target is Costco. However, Target still slightly wins because their mobile order and pickup system is so dang convenient, especially if you’re in a hurry or want to avoid those impulse purchases.

Hilary Duff: I care about being healthy & feeling good, not about being tiny

Embed from Getty Images

We’ve been seeing Hilary Duff comment a lot over the past year on her health practices, from her crazy good interview in Women’s Health to her divulging that she sometimes drinks coffee in the morning as a way to stave off hunger. Whenever she weighs in, she qualifies her choices with the note of “do what’s best for you,” and she gets candid about mental wellbeing going hand-in-hand with physical health. It makes sense, then, that she’s become an ambassador for OLLY, makers of my favorite melatonin (along with many other excellent products for the awake hours). On the heels of hosting a back-to-school brunch with OLLY in New York last week, Hilary spoke with Yahoo! Life’s It Figures series about her current body image views:

On her awkward years existing on the internet: “It’s funny, to an extent,” she tells Yahoo Life of the pictures and memes that exist of her at all ages across the internet. “And then there’s some days where I’m like, ‘Wow, that was a really hard time in my life.’ It almost hurts for me to look at that girl.” While so many idolized and envied the life of the young star, the 35-year-old hasn’t been shy speaking out about the scrutiny that she faced as a public figure. “The magazines were mean and the press was mean,” she says. The cruel remarks that were made about her body, specifically, led Duff to develop an eating disorder at 17 years old.

‘Be your own beauty icon’: “I don’t know what’s real anymore. Everything’s so heavily edited and filtered,” she tells Yahoo Life. “You just have to experiment and find out what works for you and what feels good… Kind of be your own beauty icon.” It’s a perspective that Duff partially credits to age. “As I get older, I’m more happy with who I am and how I look,” she says. “I care about being healthy, I care about feeling good in my clothes, but I don’t care about being tiny.”

Pregnancy & motherhood have helped her body image: “I’ve had three kids, I’m obsessed with them. I loved being able to grow them and give birth to them,” she says. “It did change my mindset to understand my body was like meant to do this and it’s changing. It just kind of forced me into a different zone.” She’s now mindful about speaking positively about bodies and food as a parent. “Especially having girls, I’m so careful about what I say and the rules that we follow at home.” Around all three of her children—son Luca Cruz, 11, who she shares with her ex-husband Mike Comrie, and two daughters, Banks Violet, 4, and Mae James, 2, with husband Matthew Koma—Duff preaches one thing: “We only have one body in this life and we have to take care of it. We don’t deprive it,” Duff says.

It starts so young: “My daughter is four and she was looking in the mirror the other day, and she was like, ‘My tummy is big.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about? You’re the exact size that you’re supposed to be,’” Duff recalls. “Your belly is holding in all of your organs. You haven’t stretched out tall yet, you are exactly how you’re supposed to be.”

[From Yahoo! Life]

I am so here for the influx of body-positive stories we’ve been getting from celeb mamas lately. Granted, Hilary didn’t recently give birth, but she clearly credits the experience of pregnancy with transforming her body image–no easy feat after having your entire teenagedom be public and live on digitally. I both loved and was heartbroken over the story of her daughter already saying her tummy was big. Argh! How do we plug into this mentality so young? I thought Hilary handled it really well, though. She responded in a way that made sense to a four-year-old. Or maybe I just like her response because I, too, am waiting to stretch out tall.

Hilary Duff’s trainer: ‘There’s a huge misconception that carbohydrates are the devil’

Hilary Duff looks amazing. She did a nude photo shoot earlier this year and you can tell she’s been working on her physical routine and working hard. She’s talked in interviews about using fitness as therapy as well. Hilary shed more light on that recently when she spoke to Women’s Health Australia about her “horrifying” eating disorder when she was 17 and trying to stay “actress thin.” Now Hilary has learned to love her body and found a way to keep fit that works for her. In the article, her trainer, Dominic Leeder, gave some tips on how to workout and eat more effectively. It’s pretty good advice, too, like focusing on resistance training over cardio and not cutting carbohydrates out of your diet. They’re fine… and delicious.

Make obtainable goals: The most common unrealistic goal people have is wanting to lose a significant amount of weight, fast. I feel that it’s exacerbated by a lot of famous people who have gone on, what I would call, a fad diet, and lost an incredible amount of weight. They take photos, you see it, but no one knows what happens after that. And often with fad diets, things deteriorate straight away afterwards.

Don’t focus so much on cardio: When I met Hilary, we decided to focus on resistance training, because we wanted to build lean muscle mass and up her metabolism. Her diet was also a huge factor and I wanted to make sure that she was eating the correct amount of macros for the goal that she needed. I know a lot of people like to avoid weights because they feel like they’re going to get big and bulky. But what I tell my clients is that if you only realised how hard it is to get big and bulky! You don’t just pick up a weight and then suddenly you build muscles.

Carbs are not the enemy: There’s a huge misconception that carbohydrates are the devil. Complex carbs, in my opinion, are imperative. If you don’t have carbs, your body will use other things for energy, like protein. And because of the way I work with resistance training, we want that protein to go to the lean muscle build to help their metabolism. We need carbs, and the right carbs are gonna one satiate you. For Hilary’s macro split, we did 50 per cent complex carbs, 30 per cent healthy fats, and 20 per cent protein.

Maintainess is hard:After reaching her initial goal, we had to find a new goal around [her priorities]. It was down to me to work out how best to maintain what we have [achieved], while she’s also enjoying her life and doing what she needs to do as a human being that has three children, a job, and so many other things. So I think it’s useful for people to know that it was a struggle.

Setting the new goal [with Hilary] was a struggle. What we ended up going with was, well, our goal right now is to maintain what we have while still having a fantastic life work/balance that’s important to her. She then went into filming for another show so it became even more difficult [to train together]. But because that was our goal, we more times than not managed to keep that going, so she can stay mentally happy. And then when she finishes that work, we’ll ramp back up again and we’ll find some new goals.

[From Women’s Health]

I want to talk about all of this, especially around the holidays, because that’s when food and body issues are especially difficult for some. I’m one of them, particularly this year. That’s why the goals portion of the article really jumped out at me. My trainer and I just had this conversation. She’s always been cautious of what counting calories can trigger with my eating disorder and constantly checks in with where I am mentally. I hit my weight goal and my trainer, like Dominic, wanted to know what was next for me. My goal is just to get through the holidays. Because it’s such a tricky time. I purposefully dropped below goal so I could add some back on and not feel bad. But guess what? I added and felt still bad because some demons just won’t get off our backs. That’s also why those fad diets Dominic addresses are so misleading. Because you feel great dropping all that weight, but you beat yourself up when you can’t maintain it – and you cannot maintain results.

But a trainer isn’t an option for everyone. I went through my budget and cut three things so I could afford one. But not everyone can do that. That’s why I like advice like Dominic’s above, it’s practical. You can find resistance training on YouTube and articles about complex carbohydrates online. I got a trainer because I need accountability. One thing that has helped immensely is the camaraderie. So let’s support each other, offer tips, be nice to ourselves, and just get through these holidays. Because from where I’m sitting, you all look fabulous.

Hilary Duff pierced her baby’s ears: ‘Can’t wait for the internet to call me a child abuser’

Hilary_D_Mae

Hilary Duff’s youngest child, Mae, is seven-months old. Hilary has two other children, Luca, nine, and Banks, three. Over the weekend, Hilary posted a photo to her Instagram Stories of Mae in cute little knit outfit staring into the camera. But the point of the photo was Mae’s new accessories: earrings. Hilary wrote on the photo that she had just pierced Mae’s ears and that she couldn’t, “wait for the internet to call me a child abuser…again.” Hilary has been through this once before with Banks, who got her ears pierced at eight months. When Hilary posted a sweet photo that showed Banks newly pierced ears, mommy-shamers came for Hilary, accusing her of mutilating her daughter and likening the act to child abuse.

Hilary Duff is ready to fend off mom shamers after getting her 7-month-old daughter’s ears pierced.

The 34-year-old actress took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday to share a photo of Mae James, the youngest of her three children who she shares with husband Matt Koma. In the picture, the baby’s new earrings were on full display.

“Yes ! I pierced her ears today. Can’t wait for the internet to call me a child abuser…again,” she wrote.

Duff was referring to the mom-shaming comments that she received in response to piercing her older daughter’s ears back in 2019 when she was 8 months old. It was a black-and-white photo posted to Duff’s Instagram account of herself with daughter Banks, now 3, as the two played around in the kitchen. Soon enough, commenters took note of the new jewels and shared their opinions.

“That’s awful, did the baby ask you to get her ears pierced? No, then why would you do it,” one person wrote.

Another said, “I can’t believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn’t for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes.”

[From Yahoo]

In 2019, several people did come to Hilary’s defense saying both that she did nothing wrong and that they had either pierced their babies’ ears or had their own pierced as babies. I actually didn’t know piercing babies’ ears was a contentious subject. I should have, everything with babies is a contentious subject. I did not pierce my kids’ ears, but it had nothing to do with whether I thought it right or wrong to do so. I’m just too lazy to keep the holes clean and the earrings were just something else for me to lose. There are many cultural ties to piercing a babies’ ears. It can also just be a preferential thing. If the parents are willing to take the care necessary, I have no opinion on the subject. To me it’s completely up to the family. I will defend the practice against the mutilation claim, though. Ear holes close up very easily and most of the time without any evidence of it ever being there.

As for how Hilary handled this, I think she probably took the best approach. She knew it was coming no matter what, so head-on was clever. Put up the post up so the dissenters can have their pile on and then everyone moves along. Plus, it takes away their power if she throws out the child abuse claim before they can. I know they will still come for Hilary, but this takes some of the bite out of their fangs.

Hilary Duff is ‘happy to be vaxxed’ after catching breakthrough delta-variant Covid

Hilary Duff stops for a healthy salad lunch and iced coffee at Alfred

My mom’s assisted living facility is in lockdown because of one breakthrough case of the delta-variant coronavirus in a vaccinated resident. So, we’re back at this yet again. Schools have started up, only to be shut down indefinitely because of outbreaks of Covid. The delta variant is raging through unvaccinated populations here in America and abroad. The best defense has always been to simply get vaccinated and continue to take precautions, like mask-wearing and social distancing as much as possible. Of course vaccinated people can still get Covid, and I imagine we’ll be hearing more stories about those cases in the weeks and months to come. Both Hilary Duff and Melissa Joan Hart are dealing with breakthrough cases:

Hilary Duff has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The How I Met Your Father star, 33, shared the news Friday that she’d contracted a breakthrough case of the virus just days after production began for the upcoming How I Met Your Mother sequel series.

“That delta…she’s a little bitch,” Duff wrote on her Instagram Story, adding that she had a “bad headache” and had lost her sense of taste and smell. She also said she felt sinus pressure and “brain fog.”

“Happy to be vaxxed,” the actress concluded, adding a peace sign emoji.

Breakthrough cases — COVID-19 infections that occur in people who have been fully vaccinated against the virus — are rare, but possible and expected, as the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infections. Still, vaccinated people who test positive will likely be asymptomatic or experience a far milder illness than if they were not vaccinated. The majority of deaths from COVID-19 — around 98 to 99% — are in unvaccinated people.

Duff isn’t the first celebrity to share that they had contracted a breakthrough case of COVID-19. On Thursday, Melissa Joan Hart revealed that she also had coronavirus after being fully vaccinated. “I am vaccinated and I got COVID, and it’s bad,” she said told fans. “It’s weighing on my chest. It’s hard to breathe. One of my kids, I think, has it so far. I’m praying that the other ones are okay.”

The actress — who shares sons Tucker McFadden, 8, Braydon Hart, 13, and Mason Walter, 15, with husband Mark Wilkerson — went on to explain that she and her family had taken precautions throughout the pandemic, but “got a little lazy” as restrictions were lifted.

“I think as a country we got a little lazy and I’m really mad that my kids didn’t have to wear a mask at school. I’m pretty sure where this came from,” she said. “I’m just scared and sad, and disappointed in myself and some of our leaders. I just wish I’d done better, so I’m asking you guys to do better. Protect your families. Protect your kids. It’s not over yet,” Hart added of the ongoing pandemic. “I hoped it was, but it’s not, so stay vigilant and stay safe.”

[From People]

I bet Duff caught the virus on-set, don’t you? Even People Mag seems to be insinuating that by mentioning that she tested positive just days after the production started. This is why all of the networks and studios need to mandate vaccinations. All of the Hollywood unions need to mandate it for their members too. Obviously, it will not stop people from catching coronavirus but it will give people the protection to survive it and make cases much more manageable. Get vaxxed!!
