Jessica Simpson is really trying to get Jeremy Renner’s attention on Instagram

Jessica Simpson is sort of single. Jessica is separated from her husband Eric Johnson, and there’s been a slow-moving estrangement for the better part of six months or so. She’s now living in Nashville, while Eric is seemingly still based in LA. Neither of them has gone scorched earth so far, but again, no one has filed for divorce and everything seems like it’s in limbo. Now, if you told me that Jessica was already acting like she was divorced, I would believe you. That’s absolutely her vibe, from what little we’ve seen of her new life in Nashville. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually learned that Jessica or Eric (or both) cheated. Well, in any case, it looks like Jessica is trying to get Jeremy Renner’s attention. Jessica and Jeremy have known each other socially for years, but they’re both single-ish right now, so Jess is shooting her shot.

She’s single and ready to mingle. Jessica Simpson was caught leaving flirty comments on Jeremy Renner’s workout videos following her split from her husband, Eric Johnson. Earlier this month, netizens noticed that the “With You” singer, 44, left a fire emoji underneath an Instagram video of the “Hawkeye” star, 54, shirtless in a gym. While Renner didn’t reply to the praise, he notably “liked” the comment.

Then, over the weekend, Simpson left another message below a clip of the actor exercising with his mother, Valerie Cearley. Renner, once again, ditched his shirt in the clip as he and his mom completed an ab circuit in a garage. “I love this oh my…Mama is STRONG…I need to go do sit ups now ????,” the “Irresistible” singer wrote.

Simpson has “liked” nearly all of Renner’s posts since late January — the same month she confirmed her separation from Johnson, 45. The “Avengers” star returned the love following the release of Simpson’s new EP, “Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1.” After the fashion designer dropped the country project last week, Renner commented on her announcement, “Congrats Jess !!! ????????????????.”

The back-and-forth comes 15 years after the two first sparked romance rumors. Back in 2010, People reported that Renner and Simpson had been spotted “flirting up a storm” at a cocktail party. “Jeremy spent the night hitting on Jessica like crazy,” a spy told the magazine at the time, also claiming the stars had exchanged numbers at the event. However, the “Hurt Locker” actor later denied reports that they were dating.

I absolutely believe Jeremy hit on Jessica in 2010. Did she say anything about him in her memoir? I don’t think so, but imagine what would have happened if they had really tried something back then. As for this current thing… it reads like two people testing the waters. Well, Jessica is being pretty obvious about it – she is, as I said, shooting her shot. Jeremy is more like… well, maybe, let’s see. The fact that Jessica is liking every one of his posts too! LOL.

Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson ‘had trust issues’ before their trial separation

This week, Jessica Simpson announced her split from Eric Johnson, her husband of ten years and father of their three kids. Their separation was widely rumored throughout 2024, and it looked like both Jessica and Eric had removed their wedding rings towards the end of the year. I assumed there were several factors – Jessica moved to Nashville to restart her music career, and there seemed to be significant money problems in recent years. So what was really going on? It sounds like someone cheated? At least that’s what Page Six’s sources are insinuating.

Jessica Simpson’s 10-year marriage to Eric Johnson was rocky long before their split, Page Six has exclusively learned.

“Jess and Eric had trust issues,” a source tells us. “They were no longer on the same page, and it drove a wedge between them.”

Simpson, 44, announced her separation from Johnson, 45, on Monday, confirming reports that they have been living apart while navigating what she called “a painful situation.”

“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” she said in a statement, referencing the estranged couple’s daughters, Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, and son, Ace, 11. “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

We hear Simpson and Johnson — who are selling their $18 million marital home in Hidden Hills, Calif. — decided to live separately last year “as a trial of sorts” before officially calling it quits.

“Jess thought it would help if they spent some time apart,” our source shares, “but it only made her realize she enjoyed her independence.”

We’re told Simpson, who recently celebrated seven years of sobriety, has “good days and bad days,” but she is “handling the separation well, all things considered.”

Reps for the “With You” singer did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment. Simpson and Johnson first sparked breakup rumors in November 2024 after she cryptically wrote on Instagram that her plan to return to music was an “apology to [herself] for putting up with everything [she] did not deserve.”

Trust issues? Putting up with sh-t she didn’t deserve? Did that man cheat on her?? The thing is, Jessica has been “acting single” for the past year, which is fine because it turns out that she was in a trial separation. But I would love to know what came first and what started all of this. More housekeeping: it’s true that Jessica is selling their Hidden Hills, California home, she just slashed the price on it too. I assume Eric was living there while Jessica lived in Nashville. People Magazine also had an exclusive about how Eric and Jessica have worked out a “new schedule” for the kids and there’s no drama between them as parents. We’ll see.

Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson ‘living separately’ & ‘navigating a painful situation’

Last week, Jessica Alba and Cash Warren soft-launched their divorce. I noted, at the time, that I was surprised that we hadn’t gotten more about the much-rumored split of the other Jessica, Jessica Simpson. In the last half of 2024, there were steady rumors about the state of Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s marriage. Money problems and location problems, allegedly – Jessica moved to Nashville and she’s planning to relaunch her music career. Meanwhile, Eric is… not in Nashville, apparently. Well, now People Magazine is calling it. Jessica and Eric’s marriage is over.

Jessica Simpson and husband Eric Johnson are taking time apart. The singer and actress, 44, and her former NFL player husband, 45, are separating after 10 years of marriage, Simpson tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson said in a statement to PEOPLE. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Johnson was spotted without his wedding ring in November, around the same time Simpson teased her “comeback” to music with a cryptic Instagram post that featured photos of herself in a recording studio.

“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned the images. “This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”

A source told PEOPLE days later that that the “With You” singer and her husband “very much live separate lives.”

Simpson and Johnson married in July 2014 after four years of dating and share three children: daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.

I will always respect Eric – and I hope Jessica feels the same way – for supporting her through her sober journey and helping her deal with her drinking problem. I genuinely thought they were happy and settled, but Jessica has also been going through some things separate from her marriage. She’s in debt because of her clothing line (she and her mom bought back the rights to the full line) and she’s trying to relaunch her music career. It would not surprise me if Jessica is the one who decided she was done with the marriage.

Jessica posted this photo from Nashville late last year – she’s really given herself an extreme makeover.

TMZ: Jessica Simpson’s friends have reached out to divorce lawyers on her behalf

Last year, Jessica Simpson gave an interview to Bustle which stressed me out. She was funny and real, as always, but she talked a lot about her business. She and her mom bought back Jessica’s eponymous fashion line, and they put their own money into it, to the point where Jessica was overextended and unable to pay for her lifestyle. She was also going back to country music, trying to settle down in Nashville, and recording another reality show about her life and musical comeback. Basically, it sounded like Jessica was being pulled in twenty directions and her professional life was the most chaotic it had ever been. In that interview, there was very little information about her marriage to Eric Johnson or their three kids. Then, in recent months, there’s been a steady stream of gossip muttering about how Jessica’s marriage is possibly on the rocks, and how Eric has basically disappeared from her social media. Now TMZ says that people close to Jessica have consulted divorce lawyers on her behalf?

Two people directly connected to Jessica Simpson have spoken with 2 divorce lawyers in the last 2 months … specifically about Jessica’s marriage to Eric Johnson … TMZ has learned.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ … late last month someone close to Jessica went to a Los Angeles divorce attorney and said Jessica was unhappy in her marriage and wanted to arrange a meeting with the attorney and Simpson. We do not know if this was done at Jessica’s behest, but we’re told the message to the lawyer was clear. We’re also told up to this point Jessica has not made contact with the lawyer.

And, we’ve learned someone on Jessica’s team made contact with another Los Angeles divorce lawyer regarding matters that were divorce-related. Again, so far we’re told there has been no follow-through.

Jessica and Eric have been married for 10 years and have 3 children. Jessica posted Monday, “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearth my singular magic. This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.” It’s unclear what JS was referring to, but people online were buzzing about her marriage.

[From TMZ]

I actually believe that their marriage is on the rocks and probably has been for some time. While Eric was by her side when she went into recovery and got sober, it felt like both her alcoholism and her sobriety put strains on the marriage. In the years since, she’s remained sober, but her professional life has become shambolic. Maybe Eric and Jessica have just outgrown each other, or maybe Jessica – like so many women these days – is trying to get out while the getting is good, i.e. before Donald Trump and the Republicans take away no-fault divorces.

A barely-recognizable Jessica Simpson stepped out in NYC to receive an Icon Award

Over the summer, Jessica Simpson did a big exclusive with Bustle – an editorial and an interview. I hadn’t seen new photos of her in a while and I was startled by how different she looked in those pics. She said, in the interview, that she’s not on Ozempic, but her face tells a different story. Well, Jessica stepped out this week in New York, and here are some photos of her appearance. She was honored at Footwear News’ Annual Achievement Awards and she received the Icon Award for her successful footwear and clothing company.

I’m not sure how much I want to get into it or try to figure out what Jessica has done to herself. After her third child and after Jessica got sober, she steadily lost weight and that changed her face. But… yeah, I also think she’s gotten some work done and it’s not good quality work either. She was always so beautiful, but it’s actually on-brand for Jess that she sort of looks like a Real Housewife now.

Professionally, Jessica is seemingly in a good place, so at least there’s that. She and her mother have basically bought back full control of Jessica’s eponymous clothing line and brand, and Jessica is maybe/probably still in debt up to her eyeballs. It honestly feels pretty tenuous, so I hope everything works out in the end.

Jessica Simpson has eight dogs because ‘Santa brings a dog every year’

Yesterday I covered an interview Jessica Simpson gave recently, but we didn’t get into the actual event she was attending, which was the PetSafe Unleashed contest launch. PetSafe is a group that facilitates the creation of dog parks across the country, and they’re holding a contest to celebrate their 25th anniversary. You can find details here, but the gist is that one community will be winning a brand new dog park. Last Friday’s event marked the first day you could enter the contest, and coincided with International Dog Day. I never knew that August 25 was International Dog Day. In my house Dog Day runs from January 1 – December 31, and it seems the same is true for Jessica Simpson. She shared with Extra how it’s Santa’s fault her family now has eight dogs:

On Friday, Jessica Simpson brought her doggy Penny Lane and her daughter Maxwell, 11, to PetSafe Unleashed in L.A. for pet owners and their furry friends.

“Extra’s” Terri Seymour spoke with Jessica, who told us she is making some new music.

She teased she will “have some of my southern roots back while I am in the recording studio.”

As for how she feels to be back in the studio, Simpson admitted, “It gives me chills thinking about it because I know that whenever I open this big old trap of mine, a lot is going to come out and it’s going to be really powerful. I finally feel connected enough to my purpose in music, and I know exactly what it is I want to do. It’s very exciting.”

Simpson said she feels like it is the perfect time to return to music. “I really wanted my kids to be raised as normal as possible in the first 10 years,” she said. “Like, I didn’t want to be on the road all the time, I didn’t want to be gone all the time, and I feel like I’ve given that to them.”

Terri also spoke to Maxwell, who is ready to follow her mom’s showbiz footsteps in singing, business, and fashion!

Jessica praised Maxwell’s singing, saying, “She has an unbelievable voice.”

While Maxwell noted that she’s “not a big stage person,” Jessica is gonna let her “test some waters” once she starts “touring next year.”

For now, Maxwell is all about the dogs!

Jessica shared, “Maxwell is a dog person, so we wanted to bring Penny here to see if she would socialize.”

As for how she ended up with eight dogs, Jessica explained, “When Max was younger, she asked Santa for a dog, and it’s happened every year for eight years, so Santa brings a dog every year.”

Between the kids and the dogs, is it complete chaos at home? Jessica quipped, “I don’t even know what life would be without chaos. I think I’d be very bored. I’m sure I complain at times that there’s too much going on, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

[From Extra]

I guess it’s lucky they celebrate one day of Christmas and not eight nights of Hanukkah, or they’d be overrun! I love love love my dog, but I can’t imagine having eight at once. If you have the space and money to handle it, though, and take in rescues, then more power to you. Penny Lane is a great name for a dog. I tried looking up the names of the rest of Jessica’s dogs, but could only confirm one, Dixie.

As for her human babies, I hope Jessica is being a proud mama but not a stage one. Just from reading the interview, it’s hard to get a sense of how much Maxwell is genuinely into singing.

Jessica Simpson on the scrutiny over her body: ‘it just doesn’t need to be a conversation’

Jessica Simpson has been raising her profile lately. Her youngest child is now four, so she has more time to devote to work. Right now that includes her fashion line, a docuseries, and a return to music. Whatever Jessica does, though, the coverage of her always seems to include a review of her weight, both current and past. From denying she’s on Ozempic, to inadvertently having a 2010 magazine cover make headlines again, the conversation keeps circling back to her body. In an interview with Access Hollywood last Friday, Jessica lamented that the attention on her weight has never relented, but went on to describe how she puts a positive spin on it with her kids. Page Six covered the interview:

Jessica Simpson is tired of the public conversation surrounding her weight.

“We need to focus on our mentality about even talking about weight,” Simpson told Access Hollywood during an interview Friday.

“I think it just doesn’t need to be a conversation.”

The “Take My Breath Away” singer, 43, empathized with other women who face scrutiny for their weight because she has “been every size.”

However, the criticism over Simpson’s physique hasn’t wavered during her life in the spotlight.

“I wish I could explain it. I wish I could say for me that it’s gotten better, but it still remains the same,” she added.

Simpson — who shares daughters Maxwell, 11, and Birdie, 4, and son Ace, 10, with husband Eric Johnson — said that the ongoing scrutiny of her body has been “very confusing” for her children, who “don’t understand” why the public eye has been so harsh about their mom’s appearance.

“I tell my kids, ‘How you feel about yourself is how you should feel,’” she explained. “It’s not about… You don’t dress for anybody else. You don’t try to look like anybody else.”

Simpson is one of many stars to face accusations that she has used the Type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic to shed pounds.

However, the “Dukes of Hazzard” star shut down those claims earlier this month.

“Do people want me to be drinking again?” she asked in an interview with Bustle Magazine. “Because that’s when I was heavier. Or they want me to be having another baby? My body can’t do it.”

Simpson did, however, attribute her weight loss to “willpower,” noting that while the unfortunate comments on her body “hurt,” she doesn’t let the “negativity derail” her.

“No, I’m too old for that,” she added. “I am too connected to myself right now.”

[From Page Six]

Jessica is right that we need to re-evaluate our cultural obsession with body size and the way we think and talk about it. I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life. Sometimes I catch myself having a very unkind thought about my body and I think “Good grief, Kismet, where did that come from?” It was learned somewhere along the way, I just can’t believe we’re born with those negative thoughts. Jessica is also right that there’s absolutely no need for a continuing public discourse on her body. Have I noticed the various iterations of her size and appearance? Yes I have. I’ve also noticed that in myself, and pretty much everyone in my life. It’s not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Jessica Simpson, as I hope it’s not the first thing other people think of about me. So can we please retire the conversation about Jessica Simpson’s size, and bring back the one about her “chicken or fish” tuna flub? I’m feeling nostalgic.
