Kate Hudson is in the midst of a career resurgence with Netflix’s Running Point. Running Point is the show loosely based on the life and times of Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and the show is executive produced by Hudson, Buss and Mindy Kaling. It’s having a phenomenal run on Netflix, peaking at #1 and staying in the top-ten most watched shows since its premiere. The partnership between the three women is so cool, and in press, Kate, Mindy and Jeanie all seem to adore each other and enjoy working together. At an event for Running Point last week, Kate revealed something crazy: Mindy was putting the first season together in the last trimester of her third pregnancy. Meaning, Mindy was giving script notes just hours after giving birth.

Mindy Kaling is officially the GOAT — at least according to Kate Hudson! Hudson, 46, spoke about her immense love for Kaling, 45, while attending an Emmy consideration event for their Netflix show Running Point on Friday, May 30, at the UCLA Lakers Training Center in Los Angeles.

“I have to say, I’ve fallen in love with this woman,” Hudson said of Kaling, who co-created and executive-produced the show. “And she’s just not only so brilliant, but so trusting … she puts the best team together,” she said.

“And she was pregnant,” she continued. “We had a script, like our first table read. She’s on Zoom. She then has the baby and is sending notes like an hour after she has the baby. I was like, ‘Isn’t Mindy literally in labor?’ “

“She is a powerhouse and delivers what she says she’s going to deliver,” Hudson continued.

Kaling, who quietly welcomed her third baby in February of 2024, created the show with Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen.

It’s crazy that Mindy was working as she was giving birth, and it’s crazy that Kate was one of the few people to even know that Mindy was pregnant. Mindy’s pregnancies have been so secretive and most people didn’t even know she was pregnant again in 2023-24. Anyway, I haven’t actually watched Running Point yet but I will give it a shot. Netflix already greenlighted a second season, and I bet they try to put everything together pretty quickly, given the interest in and love for this series.

Kate Hudson is currently starring in a Netflix series called Running Point. Kate plays Isla Gordon, a reformed party girl in her 30s who has to prove herself when she gets put in charge of her family’s professional basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves. It’s a Mindy Kaling series (she’s one of three co-creators) that was inspired by the LA Lakers president and controlling owner, Janie Buss. Brenda Song, Chet Hanks, Justin Theroux, Max Greenfield, and Jay Ellis are also in it.

Kate recently sat down with Bustle to talk about Running Point, family, her life philosophy and more. Now 45, Kate is such a free spirit that she’ll flirt with anyone. Thankfully, her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, is A-OK with it! It’s a lengthy interview and you can check out the full piece here. Here are some of the highlights:

Running Point is full of hotties: [W]orking on Running Point was like feasting at a heartthrob buffet. There was Max Greenfield at peak Nice Jewish Boy, Jay Ellis still sporting his Top Gun: Maverick abs, and Justin Theroux doing his best Hunter Biden (complimentary) as a dirtbag scion. “I was like, ‘What a dream! We have so many beautiful men to work with every day!’” Hudson tells me so enthusiastically it sounds like she might drop a hubba hubba. A relative newcomer, actor Toby Sandeman, made her full-on weak in the knees. “I remember there’s a scene where he comes in in this white suit, and he actually took my breath away. I literally was like, ‘Hi.’”

She’ll flirt with anybody: “I’m the biggest flirt on the planet. So I think anybody who’s ever been with me is very aware that I flirt with everybody — girls, boys,” she says matter of factly. Her fiancé, musician Danny Fujikawa, with whom she has daughter Rani, has learned to roll with it since they first met decades ago as friends. (Hudson also has a son with The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson and another son with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.) “Thank God Danny is my partner. He can handle this. I met the right guy.”

Covid made her realize her need to be creative: “In COVID, I realized that my creativity had been shut off for a long time. In those moments of fear, I was like, ‘I’m not putting out what I want to be totally putting out right now.’ Music was the big flashing red light for me,” she says of her debut pop-rock album, Glorious, which dropped last spring. (Entering the music industry in your 40s? That also takes guts.) “I’m very clear about the things that I really want to be doing now in my life. Whether it’s good, whether it’s bad, I know how my machine wants to function.”

On parenting: “As a parent, you want your kids to love themselves. You want them to know what the core of who they are is and to honor it, to love it, and to love themselves.” Sometimes parenting, however, means tough love. For example, she’s made sure her son Ryder is well aware of what will be required of him if he moves home after college. “He’s like, ‘I got to figure out what my life is going to look like and how I’m going to achieve the things that I want to achieve and how I can live. I think you should be teaching your kids those things way earlier on so that when they get to that point, they’re not like, ‘Oh my God, how do I afford my life and not lean on my family?’”

On sex in your 40s: “The best part about sex in your 40s, honestly, is the freedom. Sex isn’t supposed to be pretty. When you get older you kind of have more fun with that.”

She faces discomfort head-on: “God, you’d be a sociopath if you just had the confidence to walk into anything or be fearless in everything,” she says. It’s just that, in those moments, she doesn’t try to shy away from discomfort. Hudson’s super power lies in her ability to take everything life throws her way in stride. “Everybody’s different in what your challenges are,” she says, shaking her head playfully. “We say challenges, not weaknesses — even though they feel like weakness sometimes.”

Aries just wanna have fun: “Let’s be honest, I’m a star sign person. I’m an Aries, and we’re the people that if you want to go have a good time, you’re like, ‘Hey, are you down?’ We’re like, ‘Yes,’” Hudson says, grinning. Especially if, say, a locker room’s worth of men and their bulging biceps are what’s on the menu. “I mean, on this set I was like, ‘How lucky am I? This is not difficult.’”

The whole interview is a vibe. Kate definitely gives off that force-of-nature energy. She’s so outgoing and seems like she’d be a fun person to hang out with. I have no trouble believing that she’s the kind of person who laughs in the face of discomfort and takes things in stride. I love what she has to say about realizing during Covid that her creativity had been shut off. I think that a lot of people used that time to explore personal or creative projects.

I also have no trouble believing that Kate’s a naturally flirty person who flirts with everyone she meets. It’s probably part of her rizz. I like that she put it out there about having more “fun” with sex as you get older, I think that applies to so many things! I wish that someone had told me in my mid-20s not to worry so much about certain things because they don’t “have” to be a certain way. It really is quite freeing.

The Devil Wears Prada has really stuck around. It’s a modern classic, a dramedy with a dash of romance, but really it’s a special kind of Cinderella story and a cautionary tale. The smart girl gets a Vogue makeover and learns how to be good at her job, but at what cost to her soul, ambition and personal relationships? I personally think the right actors were cast across the board. Meryl Streep was Oscar-nominated for her Anna Wintour-esque turn as Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt’s supporting role made her into a huge star. Simon Baker, Stanley Tucci and Adrian Grenier rounded out the supporting cast. But the movie largely hinges on Anne Hathaway’s performance as Andi Sacks. Anne fought for the role even when producers weren’t sure about her, and she turned in a star-making performance too. Anne always said that she really had to beg and plead for this role, and I always wondered which actress they wanted instead of Anne? As it turns out, they wanted Kate Hudson. Ugh.

Kate Hudson still had regrets about turning down a role in The Devil Wears Prada. The actress, who was initially asked to play Andy Sachs (which Anne Hathaway ultimately portrayed), recently said on Capital FM that she wishes she made her schedule work to star in the 2006 film, alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

“That was a bad call. And it was like a timing thing. It was one of those things where I couldn’t do it, and I should’ve made it happen, and I didn’t,” Hudson said. “That was one where when I saw it I was like, ugh. But again, everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason for that. That was a real like, ‘I should’ve made that work.’”

The Devil Wears Prada, directed by David Frankel, was adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same name. It follows aspiring journalist Andy, who travels to New York City and starts working as an assistant to one of the city’s biggest high fashion magazine editors, the cynical Miranda Priestly (Streep).

“It’s funny, it’s waves of things that are happening and people shooting at different times,” Hudson added. “It’s not like you don’t do them because you don’t want to do them. It’s like, oh, you’re doing something else. And it just sucked, you know?”

Around the time that The Devil Wears Prada was being filmed and was released, Hudson was working on several other projects, including 2003’s How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 2005’s The Skeleton Key, 2006’s You, Me and Dupree, 2008’s Fool’s Gold and 2008’s My Best Friend’s Girl. She also later teamed up with Hathaway for 2009’s Bride Wars.

I just got a flashback to the early and mid-’00s and how Kate Hudson was the first choice for every script. If they couldn’t get Kate, they were trying to get Cameron Diaz. Yeah… anyway, I’m glad Kate was too busy because she would not have done a good job with Andrea. Kate would have played it too aw-shucks bubbly and way too slapstick. I’m glad Anne fought so hard for a film she knew she was right for.

Kate and Oliver Hudson were contacted by their half brother looking for his birth family

Siblings Kate and Oliver Hudson have a podcast called Sibling Revelry, which “explores the sibling bond, family dynamics, the human mind, and so much more.” As such, they usually share both deeply personal and funny stories on it, like Oliver addressing his past infidelities or swapping sibling hijinks stories with Seth Myers and his brother. On this week’s episode, Kate and Oliver revisit something that they touched upon earlier this year. About eight years ago, they found out that they had a half-brother from their father, Bill Hudson, named Paul. Paul was born when Bill was 16 and had been adopted. Paul sought more information about his birth family at his wife’s urging, and, well surprise!

“We found out we had an adopted brother, like, eight years ago,” Kate, 45, shared on the Monday, April 22, episode of her and Oliver’s “Sibling Revelry” podcast. “And he was put up for adoption and none of us knew on our dad’s side.”

Kate and Oliver, 47, are the children of Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson. Bill, 74, who has several kids from other relationships, was not always present in their lives. Kate and Oliver often speak fondly of Goldie, 78, and her longtime partner, Kurt Russell, who they refer to as “Pa.” Goldie and Kurt, 73, who have been together since 1983, share son Wyatt Russell. (Kurt, 73, also shares son Boston, 44, with ex-wife Season Hubley.)

Kate noted that it was “wild” when their half-brother, whose name is Paul, reached out to connect with them. “One of the things Paul said was he had a great childhood and has a really full, happy life and never felt like he had to reach out and find out who his birth parents were,” the actress shared. “It was really his wife who was like, ‘I want to know what your history is. I want to know for our kids, for you.’ And so, he basically left it up to her. He’s like, ‘If you want to find this out, go ahead.’”

Though the siblings said they have yet to truly get to know Paul, Oliver revealed that he physically “looks like a Hudson.”

“He loves to fish. I’m a big fisherman,” Oliver stated, to which Kate added, “And his kids are very creative and athletic. I mean, it definitely fits into the whole Hudson vibe.”

One thing the duo isn’t sure of yet is whether Paul inherited their family’s musical abilities, though Kate joked Oliver doesn’t have much musical ability himself. “What are you talking about? I can f—king sing,” Oliver clapped back. “I don’t think you give me enough credit.”

Kate and Oliver previously opened up about learning about Paul on a February episode of their podcast. “I show up at my house and there’s a note under the door,” Oliver shared earlier this year. “And it says, ‘My name is Paul. I’d love to have a conversation with you.’ Turns out, this guy Paul who lives in Utah is my, our half-brother. My father had him when he was 16 and had to give him up for adoption.”

At the time, Oliver noted that thanks to 23andMe, he and Kate discovered that they may even have another half-sibling. “That, we’re trying to figure out,” he added, revealing that Paul slipped the note under his door while traveling to Disneyland in California. Kate said Paul thought Oliver “would be better [sibling] to give the note to. “And the irony is that Oliver was like, ‘I can’t deal with this.’”

Oliver explained that he had a friend call Paul’s number pretending to be his assistant, which Paul didn’t fall for. “The first thing [Paul] said is like, ‘Yeah, I guess your brother’s [assistant] — she said she was his assistant – but it didn’t sound very professional,’ which made me immediately realize he actually was our brother,” Kate joked.

So, yeah, while it’s wild to have another half-sibling show up out of nowhere, it’s equally just as wild for a normal person to take a DNA test and find out that his biological dad is a famous singer and his half-sister is an Oscar winner from a famous family. Like, what does a regular person even do with that information? It’s not quite clear how Paul found them, but the article does imply that Kate and Oliver also may have found another potential half-sibling because of 23andMe.

I have mixed feelings about that! I did 23andMe about 10 or 11 years ago because I thought it would be cool to find out half of my family history that I know nothing about. It was cool, and as they update it, I find it incredibly informative overall. I truly love what I’ve learned from my heritage. Regardless, I now have very mixed feelings about those DNA programs. This wasn’t on my naive radar a decade ago but I’m worried that my personal data will be sold off somewhere.

Kate Hudson releases her first single, ‘Talk About Love’: good or boring?

If you told me Kate Hudson did an album ten years ago and it faded into obscurity I would believe you. She’s just someone who has her finger in a lot of pies, like Fabletics, a vodka brand and a supplement line. She’s said “I’m an Aries. I get bored. I gotta keep moving,” which might explain her latest foray into music. Kate has released a single co-written with venerable multi-Oscar nominated Linda Perry and Kate’s fiance, musician Danny Fujikawa. It’s called “Talk about Love” and it’s very mid, for lack of a better word. First here’s People Magazine’s writeup about it. In her press release for the song, Kate said “I wanted it to be something delicious and sexy and all the things that I believe in.”

Kate Hudson’s debut single has landed!

The actress-turned-singer’s first song “Talk About Love” has finally dropped after weeks of anticipation from fans, providing a burst of blended rock/pop sounds for listeners to enjoy.

In the song — co-written with Linda Perry and Hudson’s fiancé Danny Fujikawa — the actress, 44, celebrates having a love connection at the deepest level possible while belting out vocals over columns of synth, guitars and a jumping rhythm track guaranteed to raise the mood.

“You only have one first single,” Hudson said of her musical debut in a press release. “And I wanted it to be something delicious and sexy and all the things that I believe in.”

“I wanted it to be open and seeking, searching to find something powerful. But I also wanted the music to be the rock, the pop, the dance music and even a bit of the alternative records I love,” she continued. “It was a lot to put into one song, but thankfully, I had some wonderful people working with me. And so, here we are!”

Hudson worked independently with producer Johan Carlsson and Fujikawa to form a fresh sound for the song that also felt natural to her. The collaboration developed into the makings of an album which the actress has teased will be released later this year.

This single, which is below, isn’t bad. I like the retro vibe, but it’s like a theme song on a CW show. It’s budget Lady Gaga without the soul or variety. The refrain is OK and it grew on me I just don’t find it memorable or catchy. Good for Kate for doing music if she wants though. There are so many other musicians who are doing complex, nuanced and haunting music who don’t get much attention at all. I’m thinking specifically of Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward Boseman, who sings as sahn. Her music is phenomenal and some of her videos on YouTube have less than 2,000 views. She’s in a different genre and she does slower jams but they just have so much heart. I’d love it if she got wider recognition. As for Kate, sometimes celebrities dabble in things they want to do rather than things they’re passionate about and it shows.

Here are some photos from Paris Fashion Week, where a surprising amount of big-name celebrities came out specifically for the Armani show. I wouldn’t want to spend a rain-soaked holiday in Paris, but sure – maybe Armani paid some of these women to show up for the show.

Kate Hudson was there with her fiance Danny Fujikawa, and Kate was given a tube top and a bubble skirt. She sort of makes it work, but that ponytail is doing a lot of work to make this cute. Speaking of someone’s natural beauty elevating a weird design, Nathalie Emmanuel was given the most tragic top I’ve ever seen. Why would you put nude/illusion netting there and why is it f–king baggy??

I think one of the biggest design fails is what Sydney Sweeney wore to the show – while the dress itself is beautiful and wearable (I can see that on like twenty different Emmy nominees), it’s so utterly typical of fashion designers to make the big-chested woman cover up to this degree IN JULY. Look at what Kate Hudson and Nathalie are wearing and tell me small-boob privilege doesn’t exist.

The Armani show was also a family outing for Emma Thompson and my nemesis Laura Dern, both of whom arrived with their daughters. My nemesis actually looks okay – Armani suits her lanky frame.

It seems like Kate Hudson is reflecting a lot on her career lately. The past few things I’ve read about her have been about her thoughts on nepotism, and her famous roles, interspersed with stuff about her upcoming, but still unplanned wedding. Kate recently appeared on Kelly Ripa’s podcast (everyone has a podcast) and talked about getting a lot of media attention early in her career and how it affected her self-image and love life.

Kate Hudson is getting real about life in the limelight.

During an appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Hudson reflected on garnering so much media attention in the earlier days of her career.

“When I got really famous, there was so many lies,” said the Glass Onion actress, 43. “It was so weird because in my mind it felt so unjust, like this is unfair.”

Opening up about her experience, Hudson continued, “They were so mean to women. I mean, the body-shaming from being too skinny to too fat to then going up your skirt and the cellulite.”

The star added that her celebrity status also impacted her love life.

“I couldn’t speak to a man without being partnered with him. I couldn’t sit and say hello to someone,” she said. “There was so much of it at such a rate that I couldn’t in any way comprehend that I just realized I need to figure out how to not care about any of this.”

At one point, Hudson said she refused to let it get to her.

“It was so negative,” she said. “You just realize that you’re letting them win the more you feel bad. If I’m going to allow this negative energy to get into me, then they win. I’ve given them all my power.”

Kate’s completely right that media is so mean to women. And I’d argue that it still is, but it has moved more from the actual outlets being mean to social media meanness in the comments. Everyone has an opinion and the ones most often shared are the negative ones. And still, to this day, everyone gets body-shamed no matter what size they are. Women’s bodies are a constant topic of conversation and of course it impacts your self-image to be scrutinized like that so consistently. I do remember people being kind of mean about her love life too. Maybe Kate wasn’t even dating as much as we thought according to her comments on the podcast, but I remember people would call her “man-eater” and stuff like there was something wrong with enjoying single life. I think the tide has turned on that though because I don’t see much commentary on her kids’ fathers. But three kids with three dads is positively quaint considering some of the stuff that male celebs get up to. Anyway, good for Kate for no longer letting negativity get to her. If she could bottle that and sell it, she’d make a killing.
