When Murder She Wrote first came on the air in 1984, Angela Lansbury was 59 years old. It was considered a big deal that an “older woman” was the lead in an hour-long network drama, but Murder She Wrote was one of the most popular shows of the 1980s and 1990s. It ran for twelve seasons. For years, people have been talking about rebooting or reimagining the series, but I had no idea that they were going to do it as a FILM reboot. While this is right up my alley, my heart sank when I found out who was cast as the new Jessica Fletcher: Jamie Lee Curtis. Boooooooo.

Jamie Lee Curtis is the new Jessica Fletcher, but she won’t be getting into character for a while. On Tuesday, July 22, the actress, 66, confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that she would be starring in the Murder, She Wrote reboot movie while attending the Los Angeles premiere of Freakier Friday.

“Oh it’s…” Curtis said with a suspenseful pause before adding, “Happening.”

However, the Oscar winner cautioned that the movie wouldn’t be coming for a while, explaining, “We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited.”

Curtis said, “But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

PEOPLE previously reported that Curtis was the top choice to play the show’s iconic character — which was previously played by Angela Lansbury — in December, citing Deadline.

Absolutely not. I will not watch this with Jamie. It’s been crazy to watch as Jamie has squandered any goodwill she had, first with that terrible Oscar campaign (which was successful) and then with her smug, preachy behavior afterwards. I’m STILL mad that she won the Oscar and it’s been years.

Anyway, I mentioned Lansbury’s age when MSW started because I wanted to see the kind of age-timeframe producers were looking at. Lansbury was 59 when she started, Jamie Lee is 66. Let’s just list some actresses between the ages of 55 to 69 to see if any of these women would do a much better job with Jessica Fletcher: Octavia Spencer (55), Viola Davis (59), Laura Linney (61), Sandra Bullock (61), Marisa Tomei (60), Julianne Moore (64). That’s just a partial list of actresses who would do a better job than Jamie Lee! That’s just who I came up with in a few minutes! Octavia would be amazing, so would Laura Linney and Marisa Tomei.

Ariana Grande wore a custom Loewe to the SAG Awards: lovely or basic?

Ariana Grande has not won anything for Wicked, but she has been nominated across the board. I sort of wanted to see her win one thing, because I’m sure her speech would have been funny and tearful. But instead, she’s had to watch Zoe Saldana pick up all of the supporting-actress awards for Emilia Perez. At last night’s SAGs, Ari wore a custom Loewe. I honestly can’t get a handle on Loewe and what a “typical Loewe look” really is, because this just looks like Elie Saab to me. Ari was poorly advised to go through the awards season with this washed-out blonde shade too.

Ari’s on-screen partner Cynthia Erivo wore a spectacular vintage Givenchy to the show. I loved this, I loved how over-the-top it was.

Elle Fanning also wore Loewe, and once again, I’m asking… what is it with Loewe? She paired her look with a Cartier necklace.

Among the surprises in this week’s SAG award nominations (of which there were many), was Jamie Lee Curtis showing up in the supporting actress category. Jamie costars with Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl, and while Pamela has been on the campaign circuit, Jamie hasn’t been working it the same way. Except this week she did do a bit of promotion, appearing on The Tonight Show on Wednesday. You wouldn’t think much of an actor going on TV to support a project, except that Jamie lives in the Pacific Palisades which, as Jamie said to Jimmy Fallon, “is on fire right now.” So instead of canceling on Jimmy, Jamie used the platform as a plea/PSA to viewers. She implored people to do anything they can to help, whether it’s donating money or blood, and she also encouraged everyone everywhere (all at once… not sorry) to pack an emergency kit of essentials in case you have to flee. To quote Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own, “That’s good advice!”

“I flew here last night. I was on a plane, started getting texts, and it’s f–king gnarly, you guys,” she said. “It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California.”

“Everything,” she added. “The market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, friends — many, many, many, many friends now — have lost their homes. So it is, it’s a really awful situation.”

She said she intended to return home “first thing tomorrow” to be with family and assist friends, and encouraged viewers to support the American Red Cross and do “whatever you can do” to help, including giving blood and donating to animal shelters.

She also reminded people across the country to always have an evacuation kit prepared.

“Have an emergency kit with prescription glasses, medicines, dog food, baby formula, all the things you need if you have to flee,” she said.

In an Instagram post afterward, she also suggested that people “laminate a card with all of the important telephone numbers because when all of the technology shuts down and there’s no electricity in the panic people forget how to reach each other.”

She said in earlier posts that “my community and possibly my home is on fire” but that her family is safe.

“It is a terrifying situation and I’m grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze,” she said.

Multiple fires in Los Angeles County have destroyed hundreds of homes, including those of numerous celebrities, and forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate. Five people have died. The Palisades fire has gutted the affluent Pacific Palisades neighborhood.

I grew up in San Francisco and remember that in elementary school I was always required to have an emergency kit packed and kept in the classroom in case of an earthquake, complete with non-perishable food. I think my mother also kept a kit in the trunk of her car, but the only item I remember is the sleeping bag that sat next to it. So I want to thank Jamie Lee Curtis for reminding me to organize a kit again, and I also really, really appreciate that she mentioned dog food as part of the essentials, as well as her suggesting people contact animal shelters to help. Animals need our help now too! Plus that tip about laminating important phone numbers is genius. I was in New York for Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and none of us with iphones could get a signal. One person in our group had an ancient flip phone, and by gosh it was the only cell among us that worked. And on top of handing out all these good ideas, Jamie is also putting her money where her mouth is — she and her family are donating $1 million to relief efforts.

The imagery we’re seeing out of LA is truly apocalyptic, so to those in the area: please stay safe. To everyone else, please help in any way you can. And pack your kits!

Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis doesn’t decorate at all for Halloween

I love spooky season. As soon as we hit the beginning of fall, my Halloween decorations come out. I even put up lights outside on my deck in addition to my many indoor lights and decorations. Fall and Halloween-season just makes me so happy. I know that not everyone goes all out like I do. As it turns out, the Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, doesn’t do anything to celebrate the holiday anymore. In a recent interview with People, Jamie Lee confessed that now that her children are grown, her days of decorating are over, as there’s no more “pressure to go all out.”

While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala on Saturday, Oct. 5, Curtis — known for starring as Laurie Strode for more than four decades in the Halloween movies — insisted she “no longer” feels the “pressure to go all out” on Oct. 31 despite her iconic role.

“I have retired my pumpkins. I have hung up my butcher knives. I have stepped away from the vehicle. I am bowing gently to others who are taking up the mantle,” Curtis, 65, said.

The Freaky Friday star isn’t even planning on decorating her house for the holiday this year.

“Nothing. Zip,” she insisted, adding that “Nobody comes by our house except my neighbor and we do that at like three o’clock,” so she won’t feel the pressure to answer the door to anybody.

“My children are old enough now that they don’t want me to decorate for them. So no, I’m just gently stepping into the darkness,” Curtis jokingly told PEOPLE, referencing her two daughters Ruby, 28, and Annie, 37; whom she shares with screenwriter husband Christopher Guest, 76.

The actress first appeared on screens as Laurie in the original Halloween flick back in 1978. She made her final appearance in 2022’s Halloween Ends. The John Carpenter classic famously introduced horror fans to Michael Myers (a.k.a. “The Shape”), with the original movie spawning 12 additional films; many of which Curtis starred in. The franchise has made more than $1 billion through the years and counting.

Despite the franchise’s success, Curtis doesn’t celebrate Halloween by watching herself in the movies. “No, what kind of life do you think I have?” she joked to PEOPLE.

Curtis’ comments come after she spoke about being known for her Halloween role in a PEOPLE essay in 2022.

“You call me the Scream Queen. I don’t call myself that, but I get it. Not the queen part. The scream part. But what you may not know about me is that I scare easily — and often,” she insisted at the time.

I respect Jamie Lee’s reasoning for no longer decorating for Halloween. A lot of people get to a point where don’t feel the need to go all out for holidays anymore. That said, I don’t decorate for my kids, I decorate for me! No, seriously, they love it, but I think I genuinely love decorating for Halloween more than they do. I decorated for years before they were born and I’ll be putting out my spooky candelabras, pumpkins, spiderwebs, and outdoor lights well after they move out, haha. They’re here for all of the Christmas decorations, though.

I have a confession, though. I’ve never seen any of the Halloween movies beyond the first first one. I don’t mind horror flicks, but I haven’t really sought them out since my college days. I did watch a really fun one last year called Totally Killer, which starred Kiernan Shipka, Julie Bowen, and Olivia Holt. It’s basically Scream meets Back to the Future. I totally recommend it if you’re looking for a fun Halloween movie to watch.

Lindsay Lohan has been soft-launching a comeback over the past couple of years. In 2022, she starred in the successful Netflix Christmas romantic comedy, Falling for Christmas. She then had a baby last summer and in January, made a rare appearance at the Mean Girls premiere, as well as a cameo in the film itself. Lindsay’s next project is another Netflix rom com that’s out on March 15, called Irish Wish. Well, since we’re in a weird era of entertainment in which everything old is new again, Lindsay has something else lined up on the docket. During an interview on Andy Cohen Live earlier this week, Lindsay confirmed that a sequel to her and Jamie Lee Curtis’ 2003 version of Freaky Friday is happening.

Lindsay Lohan officially confirmed on Monday that the beloved 2003 body-swap comedy is finally getting a sequel. After years of anticipation, Lohan said on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” that she and Jamie Lee Curtis will return.

“It is [true],” she told host Andy Cohen. “I don’t want to say too much. And we’re both excited.”

Lohan caught herself and cheekily added, “I’m gonna speak for Jamie.”

The duo spoke with The New York Times last year to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary and teased fans with hopes for a sequel.

“As I went around the world with ‘Halloween Ends,’ people wanted to know if there was going to be another ‘Freaky Friday,’” Curtis told the outlet. “Something really touched a chord … I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

Lohan added at the time that they’d “only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

While she told People on Monday the sequel is “in the process,” however, a date to start filming remains under wraps.

The first film starred Lohan and Curtis as a mother-daughter duo who magically swap bodies, but it wasn’t an original. Based on a 1972 Mary Rodgers novel, it was first adapted in 1976 with Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris and again in 1996 with Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann.

The 2003 iteration was the most commercially successful take, however, and grossed more than $160 million at the worldwide box office — and spawned endless fan fever with every hint of a possible sequel in the decades to come.

Lohan, who was once deemed one of the most promising actors of her generation but left the spotlight amid substance abuse struggles, told People that she’s “just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take” the body-swap premise. “I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this,” she told People.

While Lohan is in her Comeback Era, I get the impression that Curtis is in her Oscar Winners Just Wanna Have Fun Era. I follow both actresses on Instagram and JLC always makes her affection for LiLo very clear. Lindsay has also referenced JLC in interviews before as someone who gives her advice and is a positive influence on her life. Honestly, I thought when they teased a FF sequel last year, it meant that it was already happening! I don’t really know how I feel about this, though. On one hand, I’m kinda over this “revive or remake” phase in Hollywood. But on the other hand, I like the first movie and if I’m being honest with myself, I’ll probably end up watching the sequel too. What can I say? I talk a good game about wanting new movies, but in the end, I guess I’m just in my Nostalgic Millennial Era.

Pamela Anderson’s super glam makeup look in the early 90s was and is iconic. But recently Pammy has been going makeup-free in public appearances. When she did a campaign for fashion brand Aritzia back in August, she was also wearing very minimal makeup–if anything just a bit of mascara and concealer. It’s a big change from how she’s normally presented herself in the public eye. And other celebrities are applauding her for it. Pamela has been attending shows at Paris Fashion Week, including Victoria Beckham and Isabel Marant. Jamie Lee Curtis reposted one of Pamela’s IG posts from the Isabel Marant show and wrote that the “natural beauty revolution” is underway. Jamie called it an act of “courage and rebellion” for Pamela to go makeup-free.

Jamie Lee Curtis was totally wowed by Pamela Anderson, who recently decided to shake up beauty standards while attending Paris Fashion Week barefaced.

The Halloween actress — who’s one to hype up her Hollywood comrades on Instagram — shared a post on Sunday dedicated to Anderson’s recent makeup-free outing at the Isabel Marant show on Sept. 28.

“THE NATURAL BEAUTY REVOLUTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN! @pamelaanderson in the middle of fashion week with so many pressures and postures,” Curtis, 64, captioned a reposted photo of Anderson in the front row wearing a sleeveless yellow dress.

Curtis continued: “And, this woman showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face. I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion.”

Anderson later continued to embrace her natural features at the Victoria Beckham and Vivienne Westwood fashion shows.

On the one hand it is courageous for Pamela, who is 56, to go without makeup in front of a bunch of high-def cameras. I would be terrified to do that–I have acne scars and head injury scars that flash photography always picks up. But it also makes me a little bit sad that it is so courageous in the first place, you know? It shouldn’t be. Men are just allowed to visibly age. Their skin gets a bit blotchy and textured, their under eyes get hollow, they get wrinkles, and they still get to be considered attractive and desirable. Mads Mikkelsen has crows feet and nobody cares, he’s still hot. Pam is a naturally beautiful woman with great bone structure and striking eyes. It shouldn’t be a big deal if she doesn’t wear makeup. Women shouldn’t have to wear makeup in order to be seen as groomed or presentable.

The other reason why she hasn’t been wearing makeup recently is a touching one: her longtime makeup artist Alexis Vogel died of breast cancer in 2019. She told Elle magazine that “without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.” Alexis did her makeup for Playboy back in the early nineties and developed Pamela’s signature look. They go way back and were very close. Being bare faced is, I think, Pammy’s way of mourning her friend and collaborator.

Jamie Lee Curtis hopes she can ‘be Switzerland’ in the SAG-AFTRA strike

Several days ago, there was a groundbreaking ceremony for Project Angel Food’s Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Campus. Jamie Lee Curtis was there and she spoke to various media outlets covering the event. The fact that she gave some interviews is not in violation of the SAG-AFTRA strike – this was not a premiere nor was it promotion for struck work. However, JLC was asked about the actors’ strike and her response was… not great. It was awful, actually:

“I hope I can be Switzerland in all this and say that I hope both sides see the value in continuing conversations… the issues are real and my hope is that no one will be happy with a settlement, but we will get back to work… I’m more Switzerland. I’m not a polarized person here. I don’t like the rhetoric on both sides… Any settlement means nobody’s happy. So there will be a settlement and not everyone will be happy. I don’t like the them vs. us. The fact that there’s a them and an us bothers me. It’s one industry and I hope that all of the sides can recognize the oneness of our industry, and that we are interdependent, and that AI is not interdependent, that human beings are and at the end of the day our interdependency with each other will prevail.”

If that sounds repetitive, it’s because she said variations of the same thing to several different outlets, including Variety and Reuters. Those were her talking points, and whenever she was asked about the strike, she declared herself Switzerland, claimed that she doesn’t like the divisiveness of a strike and that she hopes that no one gets what they want. Instead of just owning that bullsh-t opinion, JLC backtracked in a hurry once people were like “WTF, you can’t vocally support your union??” She posted this on Instagram:

TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION!????


On Thursday I attended a beautiful charity event celebrating the groundbreaking for the new campus of @projectangelfood and I was inevitably asked about the strike and I made a comment about wanting to be like Switzerland. All of a sudden the clearly desperate news cycle machine is all over me to clarify those comments.

HERE THEY ARE!

I FULLY SUPPORT the @sagaftra strike, have volunteered making signs multiple times and have donated to the relief fund. I SUPPORT the leadership and SUPPORT our demands. I’m a rank-and-file union member. I am not on any negotiating committee. I believe we have to look at all sides in any conflict in order to find resolution, solution and a fair and equitable settlement. Can we end this now and not turn this into some ridiculous news cycle story AND GET BACK TO THE TABLE AND NEGOTIATE?

Again, the media didn’t make up anything, the media is not putting words in her mouth – she repeated the same sentiments to multiple outlets covering the groundbreaking, all with the same patronizing, know-it-all attitude that she alone is impartial on this issue. She was the one telling people that she’s Switzerland, she was the one who couldn’t muster up some enthusiastic support for her union.
