Kathy Bates has worn Sneex sneaker heels to every awards show this year

People love Kathy Bates in the Matlock reboot! She won the Critics Choice Award for the role earlier this month, and it was one of her two nominations at this weekend’s SAG Awards (the other was for The Great Lillian Hall). After watching the clips for both performances, I think the SAGs could easily create a new category: Kathy Bates Loses Her Sh-t. The nominees could be Kathy, plus all the scene partners she yells at! Anyway, I’m thrilled Kathy is getting her flowers. And now that I’ve established my admiration for Ms. Bates, I must begin a difficult conversation. It has been brought to my attention that Kathy has attended every award show in 2025 wearing… SNEEX! The (demonic) brainchild of Spanx founder Sara Blakely, Sneex are a sneaker–high heel hybrid, in which you get the toe of a sneaker bolstered by a three-inch heel. I’ve been against them since they debuted six months ago, but seeing Kathy embrace them whole-heartedly is throwing me off balance — and I’m not even wearing fashion stilts!

Kathy Bates is looking her best in her signature shoe at the SAG Awards 2025.

The star, 76, arrived at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 23, wearing a classically tailored look featuring a cinched shiny black blazer with matching pants.

She ditched traditional heels in favor of Sneex, the mesh heel-sneaker hybrid that she’s been wearing all awards season. This time, she rocked a pair of The Icon heels, which retail for $395, in a black and white colorway, which she also did for the Critics Choice Awards on Feb. 7.

Bates’ Sneex streak first started at the Golden Globes, where she turned heads in a monochromatic black ensemble and a pair of the sporty heels in navy.

Though her look was minimalist, Bates made sure to pile on the bling. Her accessories included Pomellato interlocking earrings made of 18K rose gold, a matching Pomellato rose gold necklace with diamonds and a ring adorned with a large black gemstone.

Bates is a double nominee at this year’s ceremony. She is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a TV movie or limited series for her role in The Great Lillian Hall and for outstanding performance in a drama series for playing the titular character in Matlock.

Bates’ latest look adds to her stylish — yet comfy — award show fashion.

At the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, the Misery star wore a simple yet chic black moto-style jacket and black undershirt. She showed off the entirety of her rock-and-roll inspired outfit when she was named best actress in a drama series for Matlock.

In January, Bates wore a beautifully beaded dinner jacket that cinched at her waist to the 2025 Golden Globes. Adding to the look were black tuxedo pants and a sparkling evening bag. She styled her hair in a retro half-up style with lots of bounce.

[From People]

I agree with People Mag’s sartorial verdict that Kathy has been looking resplendent this year. She has a bounce in her step, and it’s not just from sporting this identity crisis of a shoe. Kathy’s lost a dramatic amount of weight — 100 pounds since she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017. Around the time of the Emmys last year, Kathy talked about how exciting it was for her to fit into clothes differently. So I definitely think we’re seeing that rekindled sense of joy and fun play out on the red carpet. But… but… must that include Sneex?! Despite my protestations, these kicks have been an unmitigated business success story. I guess I’m just a die-hard anti-heel girl. Also, if it were up to me to engineer the unicorn hybrid heaker/sneel, I would want the toe part that peeks out from underneath the skirt or pants to emulate a fancy high heel, and then have comfort in the back of the shoe (ie, no heel). So a fashiony front in an overall supportive, level frame — what would that look like? Oh yeah, FLATS.

Look, if the day ever comes that my feet find themselves ensconced, happily, in one of these things, I will be the first to admit my flip flop on the issue. But as long as they’re still running $400-$600 a pair (which they are), I’ll remain comfortable in my indignation. I mean sneakers!

Lily Gladstone rewore a Gucci gown to the SAG Awards that’s going to be in the Smithsonian

Presenter and nominee Lily Gladstone rewore a gorgeous Gucci gown last night that was custom made in a collaboration with Indigenous artist Joe Big Mountain. She originally wore this gown to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last year and had to borrow it back from the Smithsonian to wear to the SAGs! Lily mentioned on the red carpet that the adornment is custom made from porcupine quills. I love the black and white detailing and the intricate layers of fringe. Lily was nominated for actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series, which went to Jessica Gunning for Baby Reindeer.

Jodie Foster was also nominated in this category, for True Detective. She was in a cranberry sequin Gucci boat neck gown. Jodie brought her son Charlie, 26, as her date!

Jessica Gunning was elegant in a velvet black Marchesa gown with ruffle sleeves. She’s been killing it this awards season and I hope she gets all the roles after this. Here’s a link to her acceptance speech. Jessica said she had a vision board during her time working in an office and that the other nominees, Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster and Kathy Bates, were on there.

I’m including presenter Joey King here because I really liked her Miu Miu gown on camera. It’s unique and interesting without being fug. I like how the stiff collar is blended with a bandeau top and dripping sequins. This is how you incorporate elements of menswear.

Zooey Deschanel’s vintage Armani tuxedo gown was somewhat silly. It works on that level but I’m not sure that’s what she was going for. It’s kind of cartoon like.

Who had the best Dior look at the SAGs: Nicola Coughlan or Monica Barbaro?

This post is for all of the ladies in Dior at last night’s SAG Awards. I’m usually such a Dior-hater for award shows, but I have to admit… Dior did the thing for the SAGs. All of the women they dressed looked amazing, and these are some of my picks for best-dressed of the show. Nicola Coughlan, a short queen, wore a very vintage-inspired look which looked great on her. I could have done without the gloves, honestly, but this was lovely and I’m so happy that Dior dressed her!

Monica Barbaro got a fantastic Dior – she’s really having a moment during this awards season, and she’s actually dating Andrew Garfield now. Every time I see her seated at the same table as Timothee Chalamet, I do a double-take because she looks so much like Kylie Jenner too.

Cristin Milioti got a great Dior look too. She’s getting so much attention because of The Penguin (which I never started, but I heard she was great in it).

And finally, Pamela Anderson also wore Dior. She’s worn a lot of soft-cream and winter-white looks this year and she’s still doing the no-makeup or minimal-makeup look.

Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress at the SAG Awards in Saint Laurent

I know not many people watched Emilia Perez. It’s a problematic film with a problematic lead. Netflix should have backed another movie this awards season. I saw Emilia Perez before the bad press came out and it blew me away with how audacious, entertaining and well acted it was. Zoe Saldaña deserves her flowers for this role and I was happy to see that she was recognized by her peers last night. Zoe is the Oscar frontrunner now! She definitely earned it. Here’s her speech at the SAG Awards.

Zoe was in a really cool looking Saint Laurent gown with a single sleeve and a sequin flourish at the shoulder. I love asymettric gowns with interesting features, especially when they’re restrained and thoughtful like this.

Keri Russell was nominated for actress in a drama series, for her work in The Diplomat. That went to Anna Sawai for Shogun. Keri picks prestige projects and she’s such a great actress that she gets nominated just about every year. Keri surprised me with this bombshell of a gown by Zuhair Murad. Her fashion is typically risky, so it’s nice to see her looking classic and glam.

Keke Palmer presented Zoe’s category with Colman Domingo. She was looking glam in a strapless vintage Chanel gown with a gold foil neckline accessorized with opera gloves. I know Keke’s career has taken off and she’s no longer hosting red carpet events, but she was so great at the Met Gala. She’s funny and engaging with people and I miss her as an interviewer.

Speaking of the red carpet hosts, Sasheer Zamata was working the hell out of this flapper-esque Temperley London gown. I love the art deco-like detailing on his dress, which is a work of art. Sasheer has a natural way of getting people to open up and it was a joy to watch her last night. I can’t say the same for Lilly Singh.

Ariana Grande wore a custom Loewe to the SAG Awards: lovely or basic?

Ariana Grande has not won anything for Wicked, but she has been nominated across the board. I sort of wanted to see her win one thing, because I’m sure her speech would have been funny and tearful. But instead, she’s had to watch Zoe Saldana pick up all of the supporting-actress awards for Emilia Perez. At last night’s SAGs, Ari wore a custom Loewe. I honestly can’t get a handle on Loewe and what a “typical Loewe look” really is, because this just looks like Elie Saab to me. Ari was poorly advised to go through the awards season with this washed-out blonde shade too.

Ari’s on-screen partner Cynthia Erivo wore a spectacular vintage Givenchy to the show. I loved this, I loved how over-the-top it was.

Elle Fanning also wore Loewe, and once again, I’m asking… what is it with Loewe? She paired her look with a Cartier necklace.

Danielle Deadwyler Demi Moore Mikey Madison SAGs

Demi Moore wore Bottega Veneta to win the SAG Award for ‘The Substance’

Given Anora’s surprise dominance at the Producers Guild Awards and Directors Guild Awards, many thought that the tide had turned against Demi Moore and The Substance in this year’s wacky Oscar race. Awards-season prognosticators even described the SAGs as Demi’s last-chance saloon to go into the Oscars with any kind of momentum or hype. Well, it happened. Demi won the lead-actress SAG Award and Anora went home with nothing. So… the guilds are actually split. Directors and producers love what Sean Baker did with Anora, but the actors’ guild was like “nah, we’ll give it to Demi for this terrible horror film.”

Demi wore this very weird Bottega Veneta dress to win her first SAG. I kind of wonder if she thought she would lose? Like, that’s what the dress felt like to me. She looks so thin as well. Anyway, congrats to her. One really nice thing is the all of the best-actress contenders have been really friendly this year, and Demi and Mikey have often stopped to hug each other and their fellow nominees on their way up to various podiums. Demi did it again last night, stopping to hug Cynthia Erivo.

They’ve finally got Mikey Madison dressing like a princess and that’s when she loses! She wore a custom Louis Vuitton in an icy silver-blue.

Fashion Kaitlyn Dever Leighton Meester Millie Bobby Brown SAGs Sofia Carson

Newly blonde Millie Bobby Brown wore Louis Vuitton to the SAG Awards

Millie Bobby Brown is just 21 years old, she’s newly married and she’s experiencing with her styling. She recently dyed her hair blonde and has been posting vampy photos to Instagram. This look doesn’t suit her, in my opinion, but she’s young and has plenty of time to figure it out. Also – how do I put this delicately – did she get Botox? It really looks like it to me. Millie was in a slink Louis Vuitton pale peach gown at the SAG Awards last night. This color seems to be making a comeback.

Kaitlyn Dever was in a similar color gown, in Elie Saab. The gown is lovely but the color kind of washes her out.

Leighton Meester was also in Elie Saab, in a striking crochet-look strapless column gown. She and Adam Brody are so hot together. Leighton was on stage with Kristen Bell in a bit calling back to her Gossip Girl character.

Sofia Carson got the best Elie Saab, an expertly gathered and tailored peach gown. This is an “I expect to win” gown, but she wasn’t nominated. Sofia was one of the ambassadors to the SAGs along with Noah Centineo. Sofia just starred in Carry On, and that movie was not that great but she was watchable in it. She’s wearing 100 carats worth of Chopard diamonds!
