Lily Gladstone rewore a Gucci gown to the SAG Awards that’s going to be in the Smithsonian

Presenter and nominee Lily Gladstone rewore a gorgeous Gucci gown last night that was custom made in a collaboration with Indigenous artist Joe Big Mountain. She originally wore this gown to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last year and had to borrow it back from the Smithsonian to wear to the SAGs! Lily mentioned on the red carpet that the adornment is custom made from porcupine quills. I love the black and white detailing and the intricate layers of fringe. Lily was nominated for actress in a Television Movie or Limited Series, which went to Jessica Gunning for Baby Reindeer.

Jodie Foster was also nominated in this category, for True Detective. She was in a cranberry sequin Gucci boat neck gown. Jodie brought her son Charlie, 26, as her date!


Jessica Gunning was elegant in a velvet black Marchesa gown with ruffle sleeves. She’s been killing it this awards season and I hope she gets all the roles after this. Here’s a link to her acceptance speech. Jessica said she had a vision board during her time working in an office and that the other nominees, Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster and Kathy Bates, were on there.

I’m including presenter Joey King here because I really liked her Miu Miu gown on camera. It’s unique and interesting without being fug. I like how the stiff collar is blended with a bandeau top and dripping sequins. This is how you incorporate elements of menswear.

Zooey Deschanel’s vintage Armani tuxedo gown was somewhat silly. It works on that level but I’m not sure that’s what she was going for. It’s kind of cartoon like.

Joey King did a skin prick allergy test and she’s allergic to so many things

Poor Joey King! She recently did an allergy test and posted a picture of her results on Instagram. Turns out she’s allergic to a lot of things. If you aren’t familiar with allergy testing, the way they work is this: Your doctor will label your back in marker and then give you a small puncture with common allergens to test for immediate reactions. If your skin gets irritated and turns red, gets a rash, or develops raised, round spots, it’s showing a reaction to the allergen. The skin prick allergy tests generally test for things like hay fever, dust mites, allergic asthma, dermatitis (eczema), pet dander, penicillin, bee venom, and different food allergies.

Joey King has allergies — and lots of them! On Friday, May 10, the Kissing Booth alum, 24, shared a social media photo of an allergy test that she had done. Her entire back was covered in markings made of orange ink.

According to the Mayo Clinic, an allergy test is performed by doing “a skin prick test, also called a puncture or scratch test, [checking] for immediate allergic reactions to as many as 50 different substances at once. This test is usually done to identify allergies to pollen, mold, pet dander, dust mites and foods.”

Parts of King’s skin were also red from being freshly poked.

“Wanna hang out? I’ll bring the antihistamine,” she quipped in the caption of her Instagram carousel.

The photo almost got more of a reaction than her skin, with her peers and fans alike weighing in on her results.

“What aren’t you allergic to?” one person asked. Another wrote, “I’m not an expert but I think you’re allergic to some stuff…”

Dax Shepard commented, “Great. So basically…everything?” Meanwhile, Channing Tatum added, “Bro….”

Oh man, that looks rough, like she’s allergic to so many things. I’m not a doctor, so I’m not sure which mark indicates which allergy, so if there’s anyone out there who can read Joey’s results, feel free to educate the rest of us. I tried to Google it but it looked like Greek to me! I’m glad she was able to get some answers so she knows what to avoid. I looked it up, and it looks like most American insurance companies will cover allergy testing, too.

I feel very fortunate that despite there being a lot of cat allergies in my family, my only known allergies are to dust and yellow jacket stings, the latter which I found out a few years ago after disturbing two different nests three weeks apart. (Long story but the tl;dr is if you’re going to go geocaching in the woods with friends and need to step off trail to ‘see a man about a horse,’ poison ivy is not the only thing you need to look out for.) I had seasonal allergies while growing up on Long Island, but since moving to the South, I have not had an issue, go figure. Trust me, I know all too well how much of a pain it can be to go to a specialist’s office and do a lengthy test. But, experience has taught me that it’s always better to be in the camp of knowing so you can treat or prevent rather than finding out when it’s too late.

Joey King wore Oscar de la Renta for her Mallorca wedding

It’s been the summer of the Celebrity Divorce so it’s a nice change whenever we cover weddings. Joey King got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Steven Piet last year and they just got married this month at a villa in Mallorca, Spain. Joey’s ceremony dress (by Oscar de la Renta) is an unusual but beautiful choice: it features several large floral paillettes. It’s super striking in photos. Sabrina Carpenter sang as Joey walked down the aisle and the couple danced to “Sea of Love” by Cat Power. The photos, which the couple shared with Vogue, are gorgeous. It looks like a classic, elegant kind of wedding, which I love. The ceremony took place overlooking the sea with these very classical-looking arches. If I happen to marry rich (we can always hope), I’ll definitely be tracking down this villa.

Joey King stunned in Oscar de la Renta for her big day. The 24-year-old actress recently tied the knot with director Steven Piet in Spain, and gave Vogue a look at her picture-perfect nuptials and her unique gown.

King chose four Oscar de la Renta dresses for her wedding weekend, all of which were “perfect” to the bride. The standout look was certainly the gown King wore for the ceremony at La Fortaleza in Mallorca, Spain, which featured a dramatic strapless neckline and large fabric flower-petal paillettes.

She kept her glam and hair simple, and added scalloped detailing to her manicure to match her gown.

Sabrina Carpenter sang King down the aisle at the beginning of the ceremony, which the bride describes as “absolute perfection.” The couple’s friend, Erik, officiated as guests including Michelle Williams and Thomas Kail, AnnaSophia Robb, Phoebe Dynevor, Kaitlyn Dever and Logan Lerman watched on.

“Looking out from the altar at all of our friends and family was an unforgettable moment. We truly felt so perfectly present, and soaking in every detail was pure magic,” she says. “Between that and hearing Steven’s vows and being able to read mine to him… Nothing could’ve made this moment better. Also might I add, it was raining heavily right before the ceremony, and somehow the sun shone right as guests arrived. We were truly the luckiest people.”

After the ceremony, the newlyweds headed to the reception, which featured speeches from family members, “unreal” food and drinks, and the couple’s first dance to Cat Power’s “Sea of Love.”

“It was magical,” King says. “Looking at my perfect husband while dancing to this perfect song was a dream.”

Then the party really got going, with King noting, “We danced so hard that we looked like we had taken showers because we were so sweaty.”

“The best part was seeing all our friends who didn’t know each other just melting into one another and instantly connecting,” she says. “We are surrounded by the best people, and seeing them all together was infectiously joyous.”

I love the dress because it mirrors the girlish prettiness in Joey’s features. She’s very much in the “gamine” archetype in my opinion and those types can get away with whimsy without it looking costumey. It fits her vibe and it’s unique! I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. I also like her reception dress, which is very feminine with a tiered tulle skirt. Normally I hate tiered skirts like that but your wedding day is the best possible occasion to go for something ultra-romantic. Something else I love is the colors of her bouquet and the flower arrangements. The soft pinks and purples work well with the soft blue that her bridesmaids are wearing. Joey and Steven seem like a super cute couple and I wish them a lifetime of happiness.

Joey King: people don’t realize some of their favorite actors can’t make ends meet

On Monday I was crowing about the effective rollout of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA messaging. The union members and leaders have been eloquent with their statements, and polls are showing that the public hears them clearly. Many of you in the comments also rightly noted the big impact that working actors sharing their residual stories on social media has had, especially juxtaposed with news like Suits being watched a billionty times through streaming. Joey King, from The Kissing Booth and The Act, is a successful young actor—she’s 24 now but has been acting since she was six. She’s been on the picket lines often and since Day 1, and she just spoke with CNN about the sense of community felt among actors:

“I think all of us really, we all want to work,” she said. “We want this deal to get worked out. We want a fair contract.”

“It’s interesting because when you go picketing, there’s such a sense of community there, which is pretty incredible,” Kind added.

While entertainment writers have now been on strike for more than 100 days and talks are not currently underway with negotiators for SAG-AFTRA, King said she remains hopeful for a resolution.

The fight, King said, is about “having the values to protect all of our members.”

“A lot of people don’t understand. It’s not just the big stars. In fact, that’s such a small portion of the people that need to be paid,” she explained. “I genuinely understand the misconception. Why would you understand what we’re asking for? All you see is like big actors on the picket line… but the truth of the matter is there’s 160,000 SAG members and a lot of them don’t even qualify for health insurance every year because of how little they get paid.”

She referenced the many members who are struggling to get by.

“Do people really think that actors have multiple jobs for fun? No, this is their passion. This is their love,” King said. “We need to protect all of our members.”

King said “a lot of people don’t realize that some of their favorite actors are some of those people that can’t make ends meet.”

She added that the acting community and crews are eager to return to sets.

“All of us want to get back to work,” King said. “We want that contract to be figured out because people need work.”

Ok, so when I covered the new polls on Monday, the focus was on how the public understands and supports what actors and writers are fighting for. Listening to the way Joey lays it out here, though, got me thinking that maybe the messaging is intended for a different audience. “I genuinely understand the misconception. Why would you understand what we’re asking for? All you see is like big actors on the picket line… but the truth of the matter is there’s 160,000 SAG members and a lot of them don’t even qualify for health insurance every year because of how little they get paid.” Now I’m wondering if the goal is to try and explain it all to the studio heads. Hear me out! Joey’s talking points sound to me like an attempt at schooling the Bob Igers (Disney) and David Zaslavs (Warner Brothers), in simple language, the concept of people who have a lot (big stars), actively advocating for people who have less (98% of the union). Now do I think the idea will penetrate? No, absolutely not. It’s a fruitless endeavor, it’s Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill. But it still reflects well on the actors for giving it the old college try. Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it’s off to strike we go!

Brad Pitt steps out for the LA ‘Bullet Train’ premiere amid whitewashing controversy

Last night was the big LA premiere of Bullet Train. Brad Pitt was there in his baggy green suit, with an incredibly “fresh” looking face. Aaron Taylor Johnson was there, in heels and leather (and his wife Sam wasn’t there). Brian Tyree Henry looked snazzy in a really great cream patterned coat, which was probably way too heavy for an LA premiere. Bad Bunny wore a severe black suit. Simu Liu was there with his girlfriend Jade Bender.

The only real fashion highlight (beyond Tyree Henry’s coat) was Joey King in this Cong Tri ensemble. I don’t even like this look, but I like that she’s been trying different things for this promotional tour, including really strong hair and makeup styling. The skirt is my favorite part of this whole look. Joey walked the carpet with her fiance Steven Piet.

Meanwhile, Bullet Train is currently mired in some whitewashing controversy. In the original Kōtarō Isaka story, several of the main characters are Japanese. In the film adaptation, those characters are played by white actors. Now, Isaka has also said that his characters are just that, characters and not real people, and that the casting doesn’t bother him. But obviously, Hollywood has an incredibly problematic history of whitewashing Asian and Black characters, and many of us could see this specific Bullet Train controversy coming from a mile away. The whole movie is supposed to be set in Japan on some kind of magical Japanese train where there are no Japanese people? Come on. Note: Brad Pitt didn’t actually produce Bullet Train. He was merely cast in a whitewashed film.

Europe is currently on fire. There is a massive heatwave from the UK to central and eastern Europe. Keep in mind that in much of Europe, there is no air conditioning and no ice and they’re completely unprepared for any temperature above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. What’s also interesting is that this week, the casts of Bullet Train and The Gray Man are trying to promote their movies by making stops through Paris, Berlin and London. They’re melting, especially the Bullet Train cast.

These photos are from Tuesday’s Berlin premiere of Bullet Train. Brad Pitt has been making the rounds with Bryan Tyree Henry, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Joey King. They all look sweaty. Only Aaron eschewed long sleeves, and I have no f–king idea what Joey King’s stylist was thinking, putting this poor girl in a f–king black turtleneck and black trousers. Only Aaron and Brad were dressed somewhat reasonably. Brad’s current style seems to be “oversized linen blends/expensive hobo.” Which is why Brad wore a linen/burlap skirt to the premiere. I think the skirt was a good idea, honestly, I just wish he had leaned into it by wearing sandals. The boots have convinced people that Brad is wearing a kilt. This is not a kilt!! It’s just a beach-grandma skirt.

I still remember the awkwardness during the promotion for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Brad Pitt, Leo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie had to do a lot of promo together, and it was clear that Brad was the odd man out, that Margot and Leo were tight and… yeah. I think about that sometimes. Currently, Brad is ramping up the promotion for Bullet Train. Over the weekend, he was in Paris for a photocall with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop. He posed happily with Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bryan Tyree Henry. Bryan seems affectionate towards Brad, putting his hand on Brad’s shoulder for many of the photos. Joey King seems happy in Brad’s presence too, which seems pretty common for the younger women who haven’t been around for Brad’s decades of drama.

Let’s talk about Brad’s outfit here because it’s awful. It feels like Brad is trying to remake himself into some kind of super-casual boho artist who strums his guitar, sculpts and keeps it peaceful. I suppose these clothes are supposed to invoke that – their purpose is to look like vintage finds, but he probably spent thousands on this terrible Creamsicle suit. The buttons, my God. The pants are drawstring! It seems to be made of a cotton-knit? Brad’s face is also looking shockingly tight. Someone got a little nip-and-tuck before promotion.

Meanwhile, don’t wait for any of the American or international outlets to ask Brad about his bullsh-t lawsuit against Angelina, or the fact that Brad is still financially abusing his ex-wife, or the fact that their divorce still hasn’t been finalized, or the fact that the private judge was thrown off the case because he had a financial relationship with Brad’s lawyers, or any of the other dramas which have consumed Brad in recent years.
