Garden Party Season is in full swing, and on Monday, the Prince and Princess of Wales were the main hosts of a Buckingham Palace garden party. This is Kate’s first garden party appearance since 2023. She skipped the garden parties last year, saving her first official public appearances for a tree-portrait and Trooping the Colour. At least William and Kate had good weather for Monday’s party – the last time William hosted one of these things (last year), there was a torrential downpour which literally put a damper on the festivities.

For Monday’s garden party, Kate did yet another repeat. This is the same Emilia Wickstead dress she wore in 2022, to the Jubbly service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. I remember those photos vividly because the body language between William and Kate was awkward as hell. The body language has not improved in the past three years. The hat is a repeat as well – this might even be the same hat she wore to the Sussexes’ wedding? Lemme double-check… it definitely looks like the same one. I genuinely wonder if Kate’s constant rewears are connected to King Charles’s refusal to allow her to issue royal warrants. I also wonder if it’s connected to William possibly limiting her budget.

Hilariously, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were co-hosting the garden party. Poor Will and Kate need back-up at a party! That’s how incapable they are. Sophie’s dress is especially bad, but whenever I say that, the dress usually retails for upwards of $1500. Zara Tindall and Princess Eugenie were also there!

Prince Edward will represent the crown at Pope Leo’s inauguration on Sunday

Prince William basically had to be dragged kicking and screaming to Pope Francis’s funeral a few weeks ago. According to the Daily Mail, William tried to get out of going to Rome because Aston Villa was playing that same day. William wanted Prince Edward sent to represent the crown, just as Edward attended Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January (when really, William should have gone). So, William went to Francis’s funeral, he wore a gaudy blue suit and he told everyone that he was a big-boy statesman. That was his first and only time representing the crown abroad at a state function since becoming Prince of Wales nearly three years ago. Obviously, William is not eager to flex his questionable statesman muscles again. Prince Edward will attend Pope Bob’s formal installation as pope next weekend.

The Duke of Edinburgh will represent the King at the inauguration of the new Pope, Buckingham Palace has said. Prince Edward will travel to the Vatican to attend Pope Leo XIV’s formal installation as Pope at a mass in St Peter’s Square next Sunday. Global leaders will gather for the ceremony on May 18, which will mark the official start of the Chicago-born Pope’s term.

In 2013, the Duke of Gloucester attended Pope Francis’s inauguration on behalf of Elizabeth II. The ceremony attracted a crowd of some 200,000 people.

The mass typically begins with a visit to St Peter’s tomb, inside the Basilica, where deacons gather two objects: a fisherman’s ring and the pallium, an ecclesiastical vestment worn by the Pope. Following prayers, there will likely be a procession into St Peter’s Square before Pope Leo is presented with the pallium and the ring as a symbol of his taking of the papacy.


In the days leading up to the inauguration, the Pope will have meetings with cardinals and the press.

Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Prevost, was elected on Thursday as the 267th Pontiff and Bishop of Rome. The King sent a private message to the Pope on Friday, congratulating him on his election. He sent “most sincere good wishes for his Pontificate” on behalf of both himself and the Queen, the palace said.

The King is deeply religious and takes his titles of Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England extremely seriously.

Ah, yes, Charles is so deeply religious that he skipped the Jesuit Pope’s funeral and now he’s skipping the Chicago Pope’s inauguration. Anyway, I like how Buckingham Palace keeps sending different people to the Vatican, like there’s not just one royal who can keep up with all things papal. I also wonder how Europeans really feel about the Chicago Pope – another ghastly American invading their precious club? And I wonder who the White House will send to the inauguration. Please, don’t send JD Vance. He’ll kill off poor Pope Bob, just like he did with Francis.

Prince Andrew was unsurprisingly welcome at the Windsors’ Easter outing

For Easter Sunday, all of King Charles’s siblings came out for the service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. Neither of Charles’s sons came out, but hey, Charles got to see his brother Prince Andrew, who actually made it out for a “family occasion.” Andrew notably skipped Christmas at Sandringham last year, as did Fergie, but they both came out for Easter with their daughters and their daughters’ husbands. The Yorks and the Edinburghs were the most well-represented, actually – Sophie and Edward brought their son James, but it looks like Lady Louise was able to skip (she’s in college, maybe she was on vacation with friends). By the way, James might end up being one of the tallest of QEII’s grandkids. He’s now towering over his father and mother.

Anyway, as for the Yorks… I expected Andrew to eventually come to another royal event, and Easter is easiest for him since he lives right there at Royal Lodge. The message is the same as it’s always been: Charles and Andrew are mostly fine with each other, despite briefings to the contrary. Charles briefs everyone that he’s taking a hard line with Andrew and he’s really going to evict Andrew and then… nothing happens and Andrew is invited to the next holiday. I also think Charles appreciates the fact that Andrew’s daughters always welcome invitations to family events, much more so than William and Kate. Also: Andrew has gained so much weight in the past year.

Fashion notes… Beatrice wore a green Beulah London dress which looks a lot like several pieces in Kate’s wardrobe. I actually love Eugenie’s white trench coat from Reiss and her purse – which looks like a paper grocery bag – is really cool. Fergie wore Veronica Beard, and Sophie’s coat is Alaïa. Sophie is really overdressed, literally – she’s swimming in all of that fabric.

Prince Edward & Sophie are also on vacation this week, they went to St. Moritz

A few weeks ago, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh – aka Edward and Sophie – were undertaking an official royal tour of Nepal. Before they met up in Nepal, Edward was in India for a solo trip, and it was official too (although it got very little attention). The point is, they were working and traveling and getting very little attention, which is the way it’s supposed to work in Windsorville – one must not stand out or get too much attention, one must not have natural charisma or charm. After diligently applying themselves to the Windsor method, it was time for Edward and Sophie to jet off on a vacation as well, same as Prince William and Kate. Only Edward and Sophie went on a ski holiday.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have been pictured enjoying a skiing holiday in St Moritz in Switzerland. The couple, who are annual visitors to the glitzy resort, were joined by their teenage son, James, Earl of Wessex, as they took a break from their royal duties.

Prince Edward and Sophie, both 60, were seen with a group of friends as they made their way up the ski slopes to test out their skills. One notable absentee was the couple’s daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, 21, who is currently studying at the University of St Andrews.

The Edinburghs recently returned to the UK from a week-long official visit to Nepal, where Edward connected with youngsters participating in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and Sophie joined discussions about crucial interventions supporting survivors of sexual exploitation, gender-based violence, and trafficking.

Edward and Sophie aren’t the only ones travelling over the February half-term. The Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly flown to the Caribbean island of Mustique with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Yeah, it IS Edward and Sophie’s regular thing – they usually go skiing in January or February. I don’t know if they stay in a hotel or borrow someone’s chalet, but they do love to go to St. Moritz. It always makes me wonder – these people are “royalty,” with access to the best homes, hotels and resorts in the world, why do they always go to the same places every year? Also: the more I see of Edward these days, the more struck I am by his noticeable weight loss. Same as Prince William, who has also lost a significant amount of weight in the past eighteen months or so. What’s going around the men of the House of Windsor? And do Edward and Sophie really still ski or are they in Switzerland for the vibes?

Over the weekend, we learned that King Charles and the Prince of Wales planned to skip President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral, which was held in Washington yesterday. I think most people understood that Charles couldn’t or wouldn’t attend, but it’s still bizarre to me that Prince William skipped it without even offering a statement or reason why. Yes, it was his wife’s birthday, but that wasn’t even cited as an official reason why the “global statesman” skipped out on an event which saw dignitaries from around the world gather in DC. Instead, former prime minister Gordon Brown and Prince Edward were sent to the funeral. Edward sat next to outgoing Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. Now even old-guard royalists are wondering if William should have gone:

Prince William’s decision to swerve Jimmy Carter’s funeral means he has turned his back on a major “global stage,” a royal author told Newsweek. The Prince of Wales spent Thursday marking Princess Kate’s 43rd birthday, paying a heartfelt tribute to her “strength” in a post on X. Prince Edward—who is 14th in the line of succession—flew to America to pay the royal family’s respects to Carter in D.C., where he has been lying in state at the Capitol building.

Ingrid Seward, author of the bestselling book My Mother and I, about King Charles III and Queen Elizabeth II, told Newsweek: “Of course Americans would have preferred William but on the other hand I think Edward was 13 when Jimmy Carter was president. It’s possible that Edward did meet him. Yes America would prefer William but I think it was quite carefully considered and decided that Edward would be the right person to go.”

“Kate wouldn’t have let her birthday encroach on it,” Seward continued. “If William was meant to be going she would have said you’ve got to go.”

Carter visited Britain in 1977, the first year of his term as president, and attended a state banquet at Buckingham Palace as a guest of Queen Elizabeth II.

William certainly has more name recognition in America than his uncle Edward and attending the funeral would have given him an opportunity to build on his growing status a global statesman.

“It would have been a good opportunity for William to go,” Seward said. “He probably has missed a trick. You can’t get a bigger global stage than Jimmy Carter’s funeral today, especially with everything that’s happening in California.”

I will continue to point out that when Charles was PoW, he was constantly stepping in to represent his mother at these kinds of state events. Charles was known for it, and that’s why he (legitimately) has all of these international relationships to draw on at any given time. He was an internationalist Prince of Wales and he’s an internationalist king. Meanwhile, William is content to be king of the British tabloids and prince of Britain’s dying royalist class. There’s always been a sense, even now that William is well into his 40s, that William can’t be trusted to not make a horse’s ass out of himself internationally, and like William still needs significant “management.”

Prince Edward, not Prince William, will attend Jimmy Carter’s state funeral

Jimmy Carter’s days-long state funeral began on Saturday. President Carter’s funeral procession began in Plains, Georgia, where he lived for much of his life pre- and post-presidency. From Plains, President Carter’s casket went to Atlanta, home of the Carter Center, with a global staff of 3000. Jimmy Carter will lie in repose there through Monday, when he will be moved to Washington. The state funeral will be on Thursday at the Washington National Cathedral, after which President Carter will be moved back home to Georgia for a private funeral and burial in Plains. Most of the big-name Democrats and some Republicans will make a point of attending the state funeral on Thursday. I don’t know what kind of international turnout there will be, but Carter was internationally acknowledged as a humanitarian and a global leader on many significant issues. When he passed, leaders from around the world praised Carter and his legacy. You would think that all of America’s strongest allies would send some high-profile delegations to the state funeral. In Britain’s case, not so much. King Charles will not attend, and neither will Prince William. They’re sending Prince Edward.

Neither Prince William nor King Charles plan to attend Jimmy Carter’s funeral next week, following the former president’s death on Sunday at age 100.

As of Friday, the British royal family’s Royal Diary only lists the monarch’s younger brother, Prince Edward, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, as being an attendant of the State Funeral on Jan. 9.

Following 76-year-old Charles’ cancer diagnosis early last year, William has attended certain events on his father’s behalf, as he did last month at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, where he rubbed elbows with President-elect Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, Charles expressed his “great sadness” over Carter’s death on Dec. 29, nearly two years into hospice care.

Carter’s funeral on Thursday will be held at the Washington National Cathedral and is considered a potential target “for violent extremists to attack,” according to a new security assessment obtained by ABC News.

The document attributes the risk to the “large gathering of senior U.S. government officials, foreign dignitaries, and heads of state, as well as the symbolic nature of the venues and media attention expected.”

It’s unclear if the absences of William and Charles are because of previous commitments or security concerns. As of Friday, neither had any official engagements listed for next week in the Royal Diary.

I saw some Derangers suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan were being “snubbed” because they weren’t asked to represent the monarchy at the funeral… it’s truly mind-boggling. Harry and Meghan haven’t worked for the Firm in five years. The real issue is that no one has figured out how to force Prince William to take one day out of his lengthy Christmas holiday to fly in for a state funeral, a funeral in which he could pretend to be a “global statesman” and rub elbows with dozens of American politicos. This is a constant thread since QEII died too – William refusing to attend international events like this on behalf of the crown, events which Charles ALWAYS attended when he was Prince of Wales.

Princess Beatrice & Edo Mapelli Mozzi joined the Windsors for Christmas

Leading into Christmas, there was a lot of agitated gossip about Prince Andrew and the Yorks, meaning Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Once Andrew was exposed as a compromised idiot who provided access to a Chinese spy, suddenly Andrew was no longer welcome anywhere near the Windsors for Christmas. It was widely assumed that the invitations had also been rescinded for Fergie and the York princesses. In fact, Beatrice and Eugenie both seemingly confirmed plans to spend the holidays with their respective husbands’ families. Then, just a few days before Christmas, Beatrice’s plans changed yet again. She’s in her third trimester of her second pregnancy, and her doctors told her to avoid flying. So she ended up going to Sandringham after all. Royal sources also claimed that Beatrice would not go on the Christmas morning church-walk. Whoops! Beatrice turned out with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Edo’s son Wolfie.

Some of you theorized that Andrew and Fergie were probably in Sandringham for Christmas as well, but they were just staying undercover. I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. I read People Mag’s coverage of Beatrice and Edo’s appearance, and People’s sources insist that Beatrice “was the only member of the York family to join the King’s Christmas festivities. Her father Prince Andrew and mother Sarah Ferguson are keeping a low profile and staying away from Sandringham amid Andrew’s connection to an alleged Chinese ‘spy.’” People Magazine also says that Eugenie spent the holiday with her in-laws, the Brooksbanks family. So maybe Eugenie didn’t go to California to spend the holiday with her cousin???

I’m adding additional photos of some of the other royals in this post – the Duchess of Edinburgh walked alongside her daughter Lady Louise and Princess Anne’s husband Tim Laurence. Prince Edward walked alongside his sister Princess Anne. Zara and Mike Tindall were there with their kids, and Mia Tindall seems especially tight with the Wales kids. The Earl of Snowden was also in Sandringham for Christmas, as were Samuel and Arthur Chatto (Princess Margaret’s grandsons). It doesn’t look like Prince Michael and Princess Michael of Kent were invited? No Gabriella Windsor either, although they were invited to Kate’s Christmas carol thing. I have to say, Zara had the best look of royal Christmas. I love a vibrant shade of mulberry/plum.
