Sweden’s Princess Estelle, 13, will be godmother to her cousin, baby Ines

The more I see of the Nordic royals, the more impressed I am that they keep family disputes within the family, and they all do a good job of projecting healthy familial dynamics in public. The Windsors should take note. The Swedish royals – the House of Bernadotte – seem like they have the healthiest, least toxic dynamic, especially between the crown princess and her siblings. Crown Princess Victoria has been happily married to Prince Daniel for 15 years, and they have two children, Estelle (13 years old) and Oscar (9 years old). CP Victoria’s sister Madeleine lives in America with her husband and three children, but they return to Sweden for state occasions and to visit with family. Victoria’s brother Prince Carl Philip married Sofia in 2015, and in the past decade, they’ve welcomed four children. Their youngest, Ines, was born in February of this year, and Ines is the only girl (with three older brothers). Well, here’s a sweet story – Carl Philip and Sofia have asked CP Victoria’s daughter Estelle to be Ines’s godmother. Adorable.

Princess Estelle of Sweden is taking on a meaningful new role within her royal family. On June 12, the Royal House of Sweden confirmed that Princess Estelle, 13, is one of the godparents for Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s new baby daughter, Princess Ines.

The update came the day before Princess Ines’ royal baptism at Drottningholm Palace Chapel on June 13, which falls on her parents’ tenth wedding anniversary.

“The Prince and Princess have chosen the following five godparents for Princess Ines: HRH Princess Estelle, Fredrik von der Esch, Claes Kockum, Sandrine Kockum [and] Tiara Larsson,” a statement said.

Hello! magazine reported that the group of godparents is a mix of friends and family. The outlet identified Frederik and Claes as Carl Philip’s longtime friends, Sadrine as Claes’ wife and Tiara as Princess Sofia’s goddaughter and bridesmaid.

It was sentimental for Carl Philip, 46, and Sofia, 40, to ask their goddaughters to take on a godmother role to their own baby daughter, who was born Feb. 7. Princess Estelle especially can show her cousin all of the royal ropes as she grows up, as she is second in line to the Swedish throne.

It’s very common in royal families for the heir/heiress to the throne to be tasked with godparent duties from a young age. I’m pretty sure King Charles started getting asked to be a godfather when he was in his teens as well. This seems to be the first time Princess Estelle has been asked to be a godmother, and it’s for her cousin! It’s very cute. I’m including photos of the Swedish royals from last week, their Swedish National Day. Carl Philip and Sofia actually gave Ines her big public debut. Sofia looks so content!

Princess Victoria on William & Kate: ‘It feels very natural and easy to meet’

Last week, Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited the UK. They were in the UK for a full day before Prince William and Kate deigned to meet them for a cursory photo-op at Windsor Castle. That same day – last Thursday – Vicky and Daniel joined William and Kate at the Royal Variety show. Will and Kate did not have the appearance of being warm and generous hosts to their royal guests – Victoria and Daniel were left scrambling behind the Waleses on the red carpet, then Will and Kate simply ignored the Swedish royals for the meet-and-greet after the show.

All of this is really basic hosting stuff when it comes to European royalty – William and Victoria are close in age (she’s five years older), their fathers are the kings of their respective countries, and the two couples have been married for the same length of time. You would think that William should have made sure to roll out the red carpet for Victoria and really make a point of doing some kind of formal greeting upon Victoria and Daniel’s arrival. Instead, Will and Kate look sullen, childish and too self-absorbed to do the bare minimum of royal diplomacy. Well, anyway, Victoria had some blandly nice things to say about spending a little time with Peg and Buttons:

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is giving a glimmer into what it was like to spend time with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The future queen of Sweden, 46, had sweet things to say about the Prince and Princess of Wales in a new interview with a local newspaper. Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, visited the U.K. last week for a three-day stay, and Victoria told Aftonbladet that they enjoyed being with William and Kate.

“It’s always fun. We share a lot and it feels very natural and easy to meet,” Victoria told Aftonbladet, according to Hello! magazine.

“They are nice people who do a lot for their country. We exchange thoughts and ideas and share many interests,” she added.

Prince William and Crown Princess Victoria are both heirs to their respective thrones, creating a unique opportunity for a special friendship between the two couples, who also have children around the same age. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, 50, are parents to Princess Estelle, 11, and Prince Oscar, 7, while the Prince and Princess of Wales share Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

The Swedish royals kicked off their visit last Wednesday in a quintessentially British way — a pint in a pub! — and toured the STANTA training camp in eastern England. There, Swedish military personnel are delivering training to Ukrainian soldiers as part of the U.K.-led Operation Interflex amid the Russian invasion.

“We share a lot and it feels very natural and easy to meet” is what I could say about the dogs I meet during my afternoon walks. It should feel natural between William and his Swedish contemporary, but it’s clear that their time together was full of wiglets, rage and awkwardness. Just another reminder: Will and Kate have zero interest in socializing with other European royal houses for some reason. QEII enjoyed special relationships with nearly every European royal house and Charles is particularly close to several European royals as well. Bill and Kathy can’t even be bothered to show up for Prince Christian’s big 18th birthday party, which was attended by major royals from nearly every European royal house.

Denmark’s Prince Christian celebrated his 18th birthday with a very royal gala

Denmark’s future king was fêted this weekend for his 18th birthday. Prince Christian celebrated his birthday in Copenhagen, at a very formal-looking dinner reception. Other royal houses were invited to the dinner, including members of the royal families of Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway. The Scandi royals are all friendly, personally and professionally, and there are several princes and princesses close in age, like Princess Catharina-Amalia and Princess Ingrid Alexandra. Sweden’s Victoria and Daniel even brought their daughter Estelle, who is only 11 years old!

This birthday party was coordinated like a state dinner, and the dress code was black-tie, with all of the women in gowns and all of the notable royals wearing their honors and medals. Unsurprisingly, Prince Christian’s uncle Prince Joachim was called back from France or America for the occasion. There was a lot of drama about Queen Margrethe basically exiling Joachim and his wife, but there were some peace talks and now everyone plays nice.

I can really tell that the British media is trying to drum up interest in Christian and his love life. That should tell you a lot about how the British media needs some excitement, because their royal family isn’t delivering anything but wigs and buttons.

Sweden’s Prince Daniel: No ‘reasonable person’ believes the separation rumors

To this American, Sweden’s Prince Daniel seems like a good guy. He’s the “commoner” who married Crown Princess Victoria after a lengthy courtship. By all appearances, he is a loving father and dutiful consort to the crown princess. He never seems intemperate or inappropriate. If anything, he comes off as a bit too guarded and reserved, but maybe still waters run deep. In February 2022, there were rumors in the Swedish gossip media that Daniel and Victoria were on the verge of divorce, and that they were close to announcing their formal separation. They took the extraordinary step of issuing a public statement denying the rumors. But the rumors persisted… for a short time, and then people just sort of forgot about them. Daniel turns 50 years old on September 15 – this Virgo King shares a birthday with Prince Harry, remarkable! In advance of his big 5-0, Sweden’s public broadcaster put together a documentary about Daniel, and he’s interviewed in the show. He spoke about those rumors last year and why he and Victoria issued a statement.

Prince Daniel of Sweden is shutting down speculation that his marriage to Crown Princess Victoria is on the rocks. On Tuesday, The Times reported that the 49-year-old royal debunked the gossip in a rare interview with SVT, Sweden’s national public broadcaster.

The comments came in the televised special “Prince Daniel 50 years,” local outlet Expressen reported, which aired ahead of his 50th birthday on Sept. 15. During the sit down, Daniel spoke about the reports of impending divorce that emerged last year. The couple later made a statement disputing the allegations.

“Many friends from across Sweden and overseas have got in touch and things arrived at a certain point where we felt we could no longer accept it,” Prince Daniel told SVT, per The Times. “I don’t think there is any reasonable person who believes in this rumor.”

Crown Princess Victoria’s husband added that the “mean, false rumors” created “serious consequences” for his family.

According to the outlet, Stoppa Pressarna alleged that the marriage was in crisis over “incredible betrayal” in early 2022, and the statement soon came from the Swedish Royal House. Despite the denial, The Times said the celebrity news site has continued to run related reporting, perhaps prompting Prince Daniel to speak out again.

[From People]

“I don’t think there is any reasonable person who believes in this rumor.” I mean… that’s not the strongest denial ever, especially since (as the Times of London reports), Stoppa Pressarna stood by their reporting, with reporter Daniel Nyhlen saying: “We had very credible informants, including special police guards and other staff close to the couple. I really had no qualms about it. This is about Sweden’s constitution.” Yeah, I actually thought there was some grain of truth to the reporting. Maybe it wasn’t a huge falling out, maybe they weren’t actually talking about divorce, but it did feel like something shifted and that their marriage was suddenly a bit shaky. I don’t know though, I’m just going off vibes.

Who was the best-dressed European royal at King Charles’s coronation?

Here are some photos of the (arguably) more glamorous European royals who came to London for the coronation. At QEII’s coronation, visiting European royals were decked out in their tiaras, crowns and all of their finery. At Charles’s coronation, most royals opted for business-dressy looks, appropriate for a wedding of someone you don’t know very well. I still believe that Camilla’s insecurities dictated the dress code: Camilla wanted to be the fanciest one there and she didn’t want all of these attractive, younger and charismatic queens and princesses outshining her as they dripped in diamonds.

Speaking of, Spain’s Queen Letizia wore a bespoke Carolina Herrera suit paired with Magrit heels, a Babel headpiece and big diamond earrings. I like it because it feels like Letizia is both cosplaying and parodying the Windsors with this ensemble. Kate would wear this and she would make it look unbelievably dowdy.

Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary was my vote for best-dressed visiting royal. Mary wore a Soren Le Schmidt coatdress, paired with Gianvito Rossi 105 pumps. Stunning. The shade of royal purple, the cut of her dress, the pop of turquoise on her brooch and earrings. She looked regal and beautiful. Kitty wishes.

Monaco’s Princess Charlene was arguably the worst-dressed royal woman. I feel bad for saying it, but the suit is dowdy as f–k and those pale tights make her look like a nurse.

Jordan’s Queen Rania (not European, but glam) also dimmed her light for the coronation. She elevated a somewhat bad Tamara Ralph design, but she couldn’t save it! At least she looks gorgeous no matter what she wears.

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria went to the Chubbly with her father, King Carl Gustav. Her ensemble felt very “Kate” to me.

Queen Maxima wore Jan Taminiau. I actually love this dress? Maybe the best white dress of the day.

Princess Victoria & Daniel have stepped out together twice since their divorce rumors

In February, there was a surprising story coming out of Sweden’s tabloids. It was very specific, and yet vague in some notable parts. The tabloids claimed that Prince Daniel had betrayed Crown Princess Victoria in some way, and that there were high-level discussions about what would be done if Victoria and Daniel split up. They said that arrangements were already being made to allow Victoria and Daniel to live separately, and that she was still making up her mind about whether she wanted a divorce. Then something extraordinary happened: Daniel and Victoria issued a joint statement on social media, telling the world that their marriage was and is fine and the tabloids were wrong.

Within all of this was the fact that Victoria and Daniel had barely been seen together in recent months, and Daniel had begged off a big, important event in late December. That seemed to be the catalyst for the tabloid stories, the lack of highly visible joint appearances. Daniel and Victoria’s joint statement happened on February 19th. Since then, they’ve stepped out together twice, once on February 24 (at the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies) and then today at the Stockholm School of Economics, the photos of Victoria in the burgundy suit. Vicky and Daniel made sure to be seen arriving together at both events, wary of the “living separately and only reuniting for events” conversation.

So, was it all just some random false gossip from Swedish tabloids? Are Victoria and Daniel fine? Was there any kind of betrayal? Is Daniel on the verge of being sh-tlisted and divorced? Hm.

Princess Victoria & Prince Daniel issued a statement denying gossip about their marriage

So… what’s going on with Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel? They’ve always seemed happy together and adoring of each other in an almost wholesome way. They’ve been together for about twenty years, and married since June 2010. They have two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar. There’s never been a whiff of scandal about them since their marriage, or at least not a whiff of scandal which has made it mainstream. But they posted this Instagram (above) with this message. Here’s the version translated by People:

“It has come to our attention that there are widespread negative rumors about our private relationship. Allegations are being spread about betrayal in the relationship and an impending divorce. Normally, we do not comment on rumors and speculation. But in order to protect our family, we wish to make it clear, once and for all, that the rumors that are now spreading are completely unfounded.”

[From People]

So what is this all about? This is the first time where Victoria and Daniel have issued any kind of joint statement to combat negative press or gossip about their marriage. But then again, I’m not aware of much bad gossip about them anyway. It’s more than possible that the Swedish tabloid/gossip press has been running stories about the state of their marriage for years though, and that the goss has just never gone mainstream.

Speaking of, we were sent this story from a Swedish tabloid (I think it’s called Stop the Press), which claimed that Victoria and Daniel have been in crisis since Christmas, when she learned of an “incident” involving Daniel. This is why Daniel didn’t go to The Swedish Academy’s Christmas show (the palace claimed he had a cold and that’s why he didn’t go). Since then, Daniel and Victoria have been in crisis talks and couples therapy, and Daniel has also been talking to his father-in-law, King Gustaf, about what would happen if Victoria decides to divorce him. Victoria has also informed her father that she’s considering divorce too. According to these sources, Vicky and Daniel’s marriage woes have been an open secret among staff, especially since Daniel has basically moved out? The king bought a country villa, Villa Loviseberg, which will be Daniel’s home if Victoria divorces him, and Daniel has already been “seen” at the country home several times over the past month.

So… there seems to be some really detailed gossip about the state of their marriage, so much so that they issued the denial. Given the tabloid story, doesn’t the denial kind of read as terse? I don’t know. It could be that Victoria hasn’t decided whether or not she wants a divorce. Or it could be that they have had some problems and they’re working through them and all of this hit way too close. Or maybe it’s all bullsh-t.

While Victoria went solo at the Swedish Academy thing on December 20th, she and Daniel were together at an event on January 27 (Vicky in the black pantsuit). And before that, they were together at the Nobel Prize ceremony on December 10th. Hm.
