A Polish CEO stole a tennis player’s hat from a child at the US Open

This year’s US Open has been nonstop drama. Welcome to New York, I guess. Last week, a Polish tennis player named Kamil Majchrzak won his second-round match on Court 11 of the Billie Jean King Center. The smaller courts, like Court 11, allow for tennis fans to get up close and personal with players, and winning players will often spend several minutes after their matches, talking to fans and signing tennis balls. Majchrzak did just that – before he left the court, he stopped to sign balls for a group of kids waiting in the front row of the stands. Kamil removed his sweaty baseball cap and tried to hand it to one of the kids. For tennis fans, a hat, headband, tennis racquet or wristband from a player is basically the holy grail. Before the kid could even take the hat, an adult man snatched the hat away from the child.

Two things happened after this. One, Kamil came off court and someone showed him the video, because he didn’t realize what happened as he was autographing balls. Kamil was like, oh, that’s so wrong, so he basically asked social media to help him find the kid so that Kamil could give him another hat. Kamil succeeded – within 24 hours, they tracked down the kid and Kamil gave the kid a hat and some other gifts, plus a photo and a nice memory. The second thing that happened was social media was outraged about that hat-snatching douchebag, so everyone went searching for HIS identity. They found him, and as the newscaster said in the video above, the guy is a Polish executive/millionaire who threatened to sue people for calling him an a–hole on the internet. Hilariously, after everyone yelled at the CEO, he issued an apology and lied about how he thought Kamil was handing him the hat.

Coronavirus health Lockdown Scandals

Ex-NYC Covid czar fired for attending parties during the pandemic

Power must truly corrupt and make people think they can get away with anything (although I’d still like to be given the chance to test my mettle against its siren call). Today’s case study: Dr. Jay Varma served as then-NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “Covid czar” from April 2020 to May 2021, and was a part of the core team who planned NYC’s vaccine rollout. So his tenure covered the bleakest days of Covid when we were on strict lockdown until the vaccines were available to offer a bridge back to normality. As a public health official amid a once in a century pandemic, you would expect Dr. Varma to model the safety precautions/behaviors (like masking and social distancing) that he was asking of the Big Apple’s citizenry, no? Yeah, well guess who was just outed as having attended two parties during that time? Dr. Varma no longer works for the city, but on Monday he was sacked from his current pharmaceutical job

The board of directors at SIGA Technologies terminated Dr. Jay Varma effective immediately “other than for cause,” according to a filing Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Varma was the company’s executive vice president and chief medical officer, the filing says. He was also on its board of directors.

A company spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. A spokesman for Varma would not comment.

The policies adopted in New York City while Varma was former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s senior public health adviser and an architect of the city’s vaccine strategy attracted national attention after Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving was banned from playing basketball in New York City when he refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Varma acknowledged the prohibited gatherings after a conservative podcaster posted video last week of what appeared to be hidden camera recordings that showed Varma describing them.

In a previous statement released by his spokesman, Varma did not dispute the authenticity of the videos but said they were secretly recorded, “spliced, diced and taken out of context.” The spokesman would not say how they were taken out of context.

In the recordings, Varma can be heard describing a “sex party” that he attended at a hotel with his wife and eight to 10 other people in August 2020, as well as an indoor dance bash in July 2021 attended by more than 200 people.

Varma can be heard describing the first event in the recordings as “just being naked with friends.”

At the time of the second event, New York state had raised the limit on outdoor gatherings from 200 to 500 people. Varma’s spokesman previously said that he was a part-time City Hall consultant at the time and that all participants were vaccinated.

“I served in City Hall between April 2020 – May 2021,” Varma said in the statement. “During that time, I participated in two private gatherings. I take responsibility for not using the best judgment at the time.”

[From NBC News]

For the love of Lady Liberty, where do we start?! I love (and by “love” I mean am eye rolling) that the most responsibility Dr. Varma could muster in his statement of taking responsibility is “for not using the best judgment.” Dude can’t even directly say he used bad judgment. Moving on to the dance party in July 2021, I realize I’m a homebody, but what indoor dance bashes are going on under my nose in this city? With 200 people no less! I’d like to know the venue, the playlist, and all dance genres the revelers partook in. You know, as part of public record and apology to NYC. But of course the biggie is the August 2020 sex party. I have several questions. How do you go about putting feelers out there to gauge who else is down for an orgy in the middle of lockdown? Whilst also keeping it on the down-low because you’re telling the rest of New York to exhibit the exact opposite behavior? Who came up with this brilliant idea? No really, how severe do personal circumstances need to be that putting together an orgy during a deadly health crisis is the only way forward? WHAT HOTEL? And not for nothing, but is it not an extra layer of dumb that Dr. Varma was outed not by video recordings of either party, but by sound recordings of him bragging about them?

Friendly reminder: now is a great time to get your Covid and Flu shots! I just got mine yesterday!

Affairs Amy Robach Divorces infidelity Scandals TJ Holmes

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ exes, Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, are dating

In early November, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes went Instagram official and announced that they would be releasing a podcast together, promising that nothing would be off limits. Well, the first episode of that podcast, titled “Amy & T.J.” finally dropped yesterday. I’ll talk about that a little more in a minute, though, because their attempt to set the record straight and deny that they had an affair got eclipsed by some juicier news. Page Six got a conveniently-timed scoop that their exes, Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, are now dating. How very Shania Twain of them.

This is the happy ending we didn’t see coming. The ex-spouses of scandalous news couple T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have gotten closer, Page Six has exclusively learned.

Marilee Fiebig and Andrew Shue are dating, according to multiple sources. We’re told the couple have been dating for about six months after bonding over the traumatic experience of being cheated on.

“It turned into something else, and they’re connected over their values. It’s bigger than the affair now,” one source said.

We’re told the hurt is over, and the duo “has moved on.”

“They’re not heartbroken and sad,” said a source of Shue, 56, and Fiebig, 46. “Everyone has moved on.”

[From Page Six]

I love this for them. And even more so, I love how this news, which includes the tidbit that they still believe they were cheated on, dropped just as T.J. and Amy were making headlines for their “tell all” about just how much they weren’t cheating. During the first episode, in what they probably thought would give them headlines for a few days, Amy and T.J. provided more details about their relationship, including a denial that they were even cheating in the first place. They even timed the show to be released on the one-year anniversary of the day they were “told not to come into work.”

“To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers — being outed as cheating on our spouses — and it wasn’t the case because the odd thing is, the day those pictures were taken and the day that article was released that outed us, we both at that point were in divorce proceedings,” T.J. said.

Amy added that they “had attorneys, mediators, we were in the middle of divorces.” When photos of her and T.J. were first taken, Amy’s ex-husband, Andrew Shue, had moved out of their house “three months earlier.” T.J. noted that he was already living separately from his now ex-wife Marilee Fiebig.

Amy acknowledged that “relationships are hard, they’re messy, they’re not perfect. We have fought for love, and I can say I have never been happier. I am with my best friend.” T.J. gushed that he’s the “happiest and healthiest that I’ve been in my life.” He continued, “Bottom line we have not said this. I’m in love with this woman and she’s in love with me and we are planning a life together.”

[From Hollywood Life]

Sure, Jan. This is starting to sound like a “thou dost protest too much” situation. But really, it feels like they’re trying to reset the timeline here. Here’s where they tell on themselves: “When photos of her and T.J. were first taken, Amy’s ex-husband had moved out of their house ‘three months earlier.’ T.J. noted that he was already living separately from his now ex-wife Marilee Fiebig.”

I’m going to go out on a limb here and presume that their relationship did not start the day the pictures were taken. It’s entirely possible that their spouses found out at least three months prior and that’s why they were all in the process of divorcing. But, okay, guys. Your official story is out there. If we all agree to just say we believe them, maybe they’ll stop talking about it. But really, let’s get back to Andrew and Marilee. A timing with this one. And wheeew, Marilee knows how to get it. She definitely got the better deal here.

infidelity Ned Fulmer Scandals

The Try Guys will take a week off their podcast after firing Ned Fulmer

The latest in a series of celebrity cheating scandals is super complicated and involves the Try Guys. These four guys used to have videos on Buzzfeed where they — you guessed it — tried things, and they later split off from Buzzfeed, paying for their name and setting up their own shop. Of the four founding guys, Ned Fulmer was the “wife guy” of the bunch, handled HR for the company, and his wife, Ariel, was one of the “Try Wives” and deeply intertwined in the business.

The timeline is complicated, but the gist is Ned has now been fired after infidelity accusations. Why, you ask, was a man fired from his job for being a cheater? Well, because he was cheating with one of his subordinates, a woman employed by the production company. And the rest of the guys are taking a week off the podcast to regroup.

The Try Guys are taking some time off.

Following the announcement that Ned Fulmer would no longer be a part of the group after infidelity accusations, the remaining members announced that they will be taking part in a brief hiatus from their podcast.

“The TryPod will be taking a week off, and returning next week on Oct 6.,” a tweet from the group, whose members now include Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld and Eugene Lee Yang, reads. “We wanted to take some time to formulate our thoughts before recording the episode. Thanks for being patient.”

TryPod is the group’s weekly podcast where they recap their experiences trying different things.

“In this weekly podcast they dissect their experiences as internet creators and best friends who have made a living failing upwards,” a description of the show reads.

The Try Guys was first formed in 2014 when the four founders worked for BuzzFeed. They eventually left the media giant and started their own production company, 2nd Try LLC.

Earlier this week, the group released a statement via Twitter stating that Ned, 35, “is no longer working” with them.

“As a result of a thorough internal review, we do not see a path forward together,” the statement continued. “We thank you for your support as we navigate this change.”

After his departure was announced, Ned posted a statement on his Instagram account, admitting to having “a consensual workplace relationship.” Rumors previously swirled on social media alleging Ned was seen out with another woman.

“Family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus,” the statement read. “I’m sorry for any pain that my actions may have caused to the guys and the fans but most of all to Ariel. The only thing that matters right now is my marriage and my children, and that’s where I am going to focus my attention.”

Ariel Fulmer, his wife, also shared a statement of her own via Instagram. “Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me — it means a lot,” she wrote. “Nothing is more important to me and Ned than our family, and all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids.”

Representatives for Ned and The Try Guys did not immediately return PEOPLE’s requests for additional comments at the time of the initial announcement.

To date, The Try Guys have accumulated 7.8 million subscribers on YouTube.

[From People]

When I first saw a headline that boiled it down to Ned being fired for cheating, I was super confused. But after getting a detailed backgrounder from my friend Ameerah, it all made sense. Ned, who handled HR, carried out an ongoing, long-term affair with an employee/subordinate out in the open. Not out in the open of the company, but out in the open of the world, including public makeouts at Harry Styles concerts and NYC outdoor dining. Of course he was going to get caught. Complicating matters, not only was Ned’s affair partner an employee, she worked with his wife as well. They all knew each other. So much so that apparently the affair partner’s fiancé messaged Ned’s wife to tell her of the affair, which Ned’s wife had believed was a one-time thing in the past and not an ongoing affair. And Ariel had a baby recently as well. Wow, Ned really treated his marriage and family and his business like crap. This misconduct from the HR guy probably opened them up to a whole world of liability and the rest of the guys were right to part ways with him — from a business sense and probably from a personal sense as well, considering how closely the wives are involved with the company.
