T.J. Holmes & Amy Robach tell woman wanting her ex back that she has low expectations

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ new relationship advice column debuted in Yahoo! Life last month. So far, “Ask Amy & T.J.” has tackled a variety of different relationship issues, including gently doling out some difficult advice to a woman whose husband told people that he married her out of obligation. They also answered an absolutely wild question from a man asking for “non-judgmental feedback” about a 50-year age gap with his girlfriend. This week’s question came from a woman who goes by the initials YDG. YDG’s ex cheated on her before they broke up two years ago, but after creeping on his social media pages lately, she’s starting to wonder if she should give him another shot. Here’s her question:

My ex and I dated for five years before we broke up. He cheated on me with my colleague. I was rightfully upset. We had even started to talk about a future and marriage. So I didn’t want to give him a second chance.

But now, it’s been two years, and I’m considering going back to him. He seems to have made real improvements in his life. He finally has a job, he bought an apartment and he even has a pet now. I’m not sure how he managed to get his life in order so quickly, but I’m happy for him.

I do think I miss him, and I’ve noticed he’s been looking at my social media pages a lot. He’s liked almost every single post I’ve made. Maybe that means something? Should I go back to him or is it a waste of time?

T.J.’s initial response to YDG’s question was to ask if she was “reading tea leaves,” pointing out that just because the ex liked her social media posts, it doesn’t mean that he wants to get back together. Using that logic, Amy and T.J. then gave her some well thought-out advice, which included reminding YDG that just because the dude has a job and dog, it doesn’t mean he’s a different person.

Amy Robach: Should you go back to him? My answer is no. You broke up for a reason, and I don’t believe that someone cheats out of the blue. It obviously spoke to the quality of your relationship. I don’t know what changed so dramatically about him, or what you think changed so dramatically about him. You were dating for five years and just starting to talk about marriage, and he didn’t have a job? Now he might be able to pay his bills, but he’s still the same person you broke up with. The same person it wasn’t working out with. How are things going to change?

T.J. Holmes: I think you might be making excuses for wanting him back. I don’t think you know who he is now. Who have you been dating since you and he broke up? Who is he dating? Have you been sitting around waiting for him for two years? And now you think he’s improved because he’s got a f***ing pet, and now he’s cool? I don’t think anything that you know of has actually changed about this man.

AR: That said, if you really still have feelings for him and have been pining away for him for the past two years, then you should be direct and ask him to meet up. See how it feels. But I wouldn’t have any expectations that things would be any different now than they were then. Maybe you’re feeling lonely, or you’re thinking about your biological clock ticking. You might be wondering if he was your last, best option. I think a lot of people love the idea of having a partner, a teammate to go through life with, and it’s almost less important who the person is, as long as it’s a person you can picture in that idea of a relationship with. But you have to be willing to accept all the bad that comes with the good. And sometimes, that’s a matter of experience and maturity. If I were trying to figure this out, I would make a list of pros and cons: all the things that I didn’t like about our relationship, and all the things I did like. Really take a good, long look at that list and know what you would be getting into. I would never tell someone not to give love another chance, but go into it with open eyes. Don’t wear rose-colored glasses or view the situation through an Instagram filter.

TH: I think you’re looking for positives when you look at his social media. Job, apartment, pet — OK, welcome to adulthood, big deal!

AR: I think you have very low expectations of what is good enough for you.

TH: You should raise your own standards. And force somebody to meet them. You can do better than that. You sound like a young person. You’re going to be OK. But do not settle for a guy who just does the basics. It sounds like now, he’s the guy that you wanted in the beginning. But he might not be the guy who wants you at this point. You might not be attracted to each other at this point. It’s been two years — you might not be the same people you were at all. But you can handle this today. If you’re into him, there’s no harm in reaching out and saying, “Hello, I’ve noticed that you liked all my posts. I wonder how things have been going for you? Would you like to have a conversation or go grab a coffee at some point? I’d love to do so.” If he says “yes,” let’s see what happens. If he says “no, we are done,” move on.

[From Yahoo! Life]

T.J.’s final advice was to stop following the ex on social media to eliminate the temptation. I can’t argue with that. If YDG was my sister or girlfriend, I’d say the same thing. I also like that he and Amy told YDG that she has “low expectations” about what she deserves and challenged her to raise her own standards. No lies detected there. I hope that woman listens to their advice and finds someone without baggage who treats her right.

“Ask Amy & T.J.” fascinates me because they give good, nuanced advice. I’ve read through all of their columns, and none of it has been problematic or way off-base. They have an interesting dynamic, too. Amy has a more delicate approach, but T.J. is pretty straightforward with his guidance, which I like. It’s just a shame that they’re such hot messes IRL. At first I thought that the column was just another paycheck gig for them, but I wonder if it’s a stepping-stone to some sort of talk show or reality TV hosting gig. I can’t explain why, but it just gives me those vibes.

Amy Robach & TJ Holmes shade their exes in their new relationship advice column

Last month, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes announced that they were doing a relationship advice column for Yahoo! Life, which launched on June 9. Every week, these two former co-hosts-turned-lovebirds will be doling out relationship advice, because, as Amy put it, ”Love is messy,” and they know messy! This week, Amy and T.J. tackled a question from a woman named Jennifer M. Jennifer M., 60, has been in a relationship with her husband for 10 years. They got married two years ago, but it sounds like her husband has regrets. Here’s Jennifer M’s question:

I am 60 years old and my husband of less than two years has been telling his family and friends — in my presence — that he married me out of a sense of obligation.

We had an eight-year relationship prior to getting married. He told me upfront that he didn’t want to remarry. I struggled with this privately but, with counseling, came to accept his terms. Not long after, he proposed out of the blue.

The “obligation” narrative is new. The first time he relayed this to his family, I expressed dismay and surprise, but not anger (I kept my cool). Now he’s repeating this narrative to his close friends. He doesn’t seem to understand how painful this is for me. What should I do?

The format for Amy and T.J.’s response is broken down into three segments: “Gut reaction,” “On further thought…,” and “The final word.” After initially responding with the appropriate amount of indignation at what poor Jennifer is going through, they actually gave her some well thought-out advice before finishing up with their final thoughts:

On further thought…

T.J. Holmes: Look, I recognize that people have bad moments, and maybe that’s what was going on with your husband when he said this. The scenario in which he’s saying these things might make a difference in how seriously you should take his statement. Was he out at a party? Was he trying to be funny in front of his boys? Was everybody drinking? Sometimes people say things they shouldn’t in those kinds of situations. Has your marriage been solid and good up to this point? Because if so, maybe his painful comments about obligation don’t sum up the entirety of your 10-year relationship. It’s true that everybody has some issues in their marriage.

That said, no matter what he’s feeling, I absolutely take issue with him doing it in front of other people. That’s humiliating, it’s not respectful and it’s tone-deaf. It shows a lack of self-awareness. How could he not know what that would do to you? He’s essentially announcing, “I actually didn’t want to marry the person I’ve been married to for the past two years.” That is s***ty.

It breaks my heart to think that you might be holding onto a guy who’s saying these things. If he confided these feelings about marriage to you, maybe the two of you could talk through it and overcome that obstacle. But him saying this to other people is a sign of disrespect that is going to lead to resentment that you just can’t come back from. I’m sorry to say it, Jennifer, but to me, that’s a relationship killer.

The final word:

Amy Robach: It’s hard to ask these questions because you may not want to know the answer. Maybe you already know the answer he’s going to give you. And that’s scary. It may make you wonder, “I’m 60, am I ever going to find love? Is this my last and best shot at it, even if it makes me feel slightly humiliated?” That might seem better than being alone, but I would disagree with that.

TH: Obviously, only you can choose which is better. People do this in relationships all the time. We — Amy and I — have done it: staying in a marriage or relationship for some reason other than our own happiness. People try to stay in unhappy marriages until their kids graduate high school, or until this or that happens. I get it. People have legitimate reasons to stay. But it’s not over just because you lose this person. And aren’t you better off being happy on your own than being with somebody who doesn’t actually want to be with you? Amy and I would give everybody this advice: You do have another shot.

[From Yahoo! Life]

I think that if they had left it at their “On further thought…” response, it would have been fine. It was a nuanced answer that delicately broke it to this woman that she needs to GTFO out that marriage. I would have started with “this is a relationship killer” but that’s just me. I understand that some people need to have all of the “what ifs” said out loud before being walked to where they need to be. The audience asking for their advice isn’t the same demographic as people doing so on TikTok or Twitter, where a simple, ”Jennifer, you in danger, girl” with a gif attached to it will suffice. I imagine that poor Jennifer M. is in a delicate emotional state right now and they broke it to her gently.

That said, T.J. didn’t need to throw shade at their exes in the end when he’s talking about how he and Amy have both stayed in unhappy marriages for the wrong reasons and how it’s not over if you “lose” that person. It’s almost as though they are so petty that they just can’t help it. Someone needs to tell them that they can impart wisdom without making everything about themselves or their exes.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are starting a relationship advice column with Yahoo

Y’all, I owe Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes a huge apology. I genuinely thought that their podcast, “Amy & T.J.,” was a vanity project as they bought time to try and get back on television. I also thought they’d last a year, tops. Well, not only are they still doing the podcast and still going strong, they’ve somehow managed to parlay both of those things into a daily news podcast, semi-regular headlines, and now, a relationship advice column on Yahoo. Yes, that’s right! My favorite messy former news co-hosts have a new gig doling out weekly relationship advice. They’re even leaning into their reputations because, as Amy says, ”Love is messy.” Yassss.

Longtime journalists Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have firsthand experience with the messiness of modern relationships and the complexity of combining family, finances and more when you’re starting over with a new person. “We’re here to be the face of life is messy,” Robach says. “Love is messy.”

Love is messy, alright. From the moment their relationship was first turned into clickbait fodder, Robach and Holmes have been learning to navigate life’s difficult moments together. Now, they want to help you address yours in Ask Amy & T.J., the celebrity couple’s new relationship advice column from Yahoo, debuting June 9. In this weekly series, the pair will take on your relationship questions, however complicated, bizarre or intimate — there are no taboos here — with the humor and humility you know them for.

Who better to tackle your trickiest problems than two people with hard-earned wisdom of their own? “I feel like we’ve become experienced relationship veterans because we’ve had a lot of trial and error,” Robach explains (Holmes chimes in, with a laugh: “a lot of errors”). And that’s the point, according to the couple. “I think you really, truly learn when you make mistakes; when there are problems, even failures,” Robach admits. “And we have learned significantly.”

Both Robach and Holmes have been married (twice) and they’ve been through divorce (twice). They are an interracial couple. They have a blended family. “We are not here to say we have it all figured out,” says Robach. “We’re still learning, we’re still fighting, we’re still growing, we’re still evolving — but being open and honest about the fact that it isn’t perfect, I think, is a huge starting point.”

Thanks to Robach and Holmes’s realness, friends, acquaintances and even strangers have approached them to divulge relationship issues — and this column aims to bring those intimate conversations online. “What it boils down to is that ours is a story people can relate to,” says Holmes. “I think it’s a more attainable goal for people in relationships to get where we got: We went through hell and then realized on the other side, I’m gonna be OK, and this relationship is worth fighting for.”

Robach and Holmes don’t always see things from the same angle. Robach is an over-sharer (“I’m working on it,” she admits). Holmes, on the other hand, is a “big boundaries guy.” From this battle-tested couple, you can expect pragmatic advice from two points of view, with one core value in common: authenticity. That’s how they’ve made it through their challenges stronger than ever and how they want to help you through yours.

It doesn’t matter if your relationship looks nothing like theirs. No topic is off limits and no problem is too big or too small. You can tell them about a secret you’re tired of keeping or the deepest rift in your marriage. From skeletons in the closet to petty dramas, the politics at the playground to your workplace frenemy — they’re ready to help you wade through it all.

[From Yahoo! Life]

“We’re here to be the face of life is messy.” LMAO, appreciate the self-awareness. But seriously, I cannot wait for this column. I amm jumping up and down at how entertaining it’s going to be. I’m also not joking when I say good for them. They’re hustling hard here, so I’ll give credit where it’s due. They get bonus points for switching mediums, too. I don’t think they’ll ever get back to their previous professional statures, but they’re making lemonade out of those lemons they grew.

Anyway, if you have any burning questions about any relationships in your life, there’s an email address for people to write them in to, [email protected]. I am so looking forward to the types of questions they’ll receive and answers they’ll give. I wonder if they’ll set a record for how many times you can talk about yourself while trying to focus on helping solve someone else’s problem. Congrats on the new side hustle, A&T!

Was Amy Robach wearing an engagement ring from T.J. Holmes on the red carpet?

Embed from Getty Images

A few weeks ago, Amy Robach told People that her mom had seen her and her lovaahhh T.J. Holmes wearing their Oura Rings and asked them if they’d gotten married without telling her. According to Amy, they weren’t even wearing the rings on their wedding band fingers. The quick soundbite happened while T.J. and Amy were at Cirque Du Soleil’s NYC premiere of their show, Luzia. On Monday, Amy and T.J. showed up at the iHeartRadio Awards. This time, Amy was wearing a big, colorful diamond on her left ring finger. While they were on the red carpet with T.J.’s daughter, Sabine, 12, Amy made sure to pose with it in full view of the cameras.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes may be getting married soon. The couple sparked engagement rumors when Robach flashed a huge ring on her left ring finger at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday.

Robach, 52, who wore a bright blue one-shoulder dress for the awards show, was pictured beaming while showing off her shiny jewelry and standing next to Holmes. Holmes, 47, looked equally happy as he posed in a gray suit. He wore a white button-up shirt underneath. His 12-year-old daughter, Sabine, whom he shares with his ex-wife Marilee Fiebig, joined the happy couple.

It’s worth noting that Robach didn’t wear a ring during her last public appearance two weeks ago, when she and Holmes attended the New York premiere of the new Cirque Du Soleil show “Luiza,” per Daily Mail.

A rep for Holmes and Robach did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

If they are engaged, the wedding ceremony may not take place for a while. In September, Robach said she wasn’t in a “rush” to walk down the aisle with Holmes following her divorce from ex-husband Andrew Shue in March 2023.

“There is no urgency in the sense that I’m 51 years old. I don’t need to rush into anything,” she said at the time on her “I Do, Part 2″ podcast.

“I think I have rushed into everything in my life up until now. But, he knows I wanna get married, and I know he wants to get married.”

[From Page Six]

FWIW, I don’t think that it’s an engagement ring but a strategically-placed piece of bling. After the Oura Ring comment, I mentioned that I thought Amy and T.J. would endlessly string everyone along with their “Will we or won’t we?” nonsense for years and then maybe quietly elope with just a People photographer as their witness. I should have known that we’d eventually get to the “Is that an engagement ring?” news cycle and that it would be exactly like this. I just didn’t expect it so soon! I’m sure when the headlines die down, Amy will address it on their podcast and explain that it was all just a misunderstanding, blah blah blah. Anyway, while I don’t care much for that blue dress she’s wearing, I actually love the ring. I thought it looked purple, but reports say that it’s actually a deep blue. Either way, I think it’s gorgeous and love the small diamonds around it. I wonder if there is any actual meaning behind it or not.

Amy Robach’s mom thought Amy had already married T.J. Holmes

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are still going strong. I know most of us didn’t think these two messy bitches would last long once they moved in together, but they’re proving us all wrong. Honestly, good for them. Last year, they said that although they had no plans to get married anytime soon, they were still planning on spending the rest of their lives together. I won’t speak for everyone, but I assumed that if they did tie the knot, T.J. and Amy would end up eloping at some point. As it turns out, I’m not the only person who made this assumption. Amy’s mom did too! She recently saw the two of them wearing their Oura Rings and suspected that they’d gotten married and forgot to tell her.

“The truth is my mom even asked me [if we were married] because we wear our [fitness tracking] Oura Rings,” says Robach, 52. “She thought that maybe we had actually gotten married and not told her, and just were wearing our rings on the other finger. I was like, ‘Mom, I would definitely tell you if that were the case.‘ ”

“We’re not going to do that, Mom,” Holmes, 47, chimed in.

Robach went on to share that while she and Holmes are firmly in “family mode” with their respective kids these days, there is “no date” set for a wedding.

The couple — who previously revealed they had moved in together in 2024 — also told PEOPLE that the transition to cohabitation went relatively smoothly.

“We just know each other so well for so long. We’ve been best friends for so long. We spend so much time together. I don’t think there was a surprise of any kind,” Holmes said.

Robach added: “I think the only surprise for me is that he has to sleep with the television on at all times. I did not know that. How would I know that if we were just friends? So, that was the biggest surprise that I have now gotten used to. I’ve moved over from white noise to television.”

And as to what they watch together while drifting off to sleep? True crime.

“Snapped is our absolute favorite because it’s about women committing murder. I don’t know why I like that show,” Holmes said.

“And you sleep so soundly next to me,” Robach added, before joking that it makes him realize he’s “not with a murderer,” and so “it could be worse.”

[From People]

Don’t you just hate it when you and your boo are minding your own business and your mom thinks you’re secretly married because you’re wearing a health tracking device on one of the other nine fingers that aren’t associated with a wedding band? Amy’s mom must really be on wedding watch over there. Good thing someone from People was around to set the record straight! Sarcasm aside, my husband has one of those Oura Rings and they’re so cool. He wears his in place of his original wedding band and he loves it. I kinda want one myself, but have no idea what finger I’d wear mine on. I like my OG ring set too much to swap them out.

One other thing, and that’s regarding T.J. needing to sleep with the TV on. That would drive me absolutely insane. I need silence and pitch black. Mr. Rosie and I compromise with a white noise app for him and a sleep mask for me. Yay, adulting. It’s also wild that they fall asleep watching murder documentaries together. I definitely had them pegged for the type that falls asleep to either Bravo or the Weather Channel together, but true crime makes a lot more sense.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes moved in together, but it wasn’t voluntary

Embed from Getty Images

Well, friends, after denying it on their podcast for the last ten months, Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have finally moved in together. In the past, they’ve spoken about how they’re not sure if they’ll get married and despite T.J.’s separation anxiety, they weren’t quite ready to move in together yet. They need to resolve some things, like the appropriate place to watch TV at 2:00 a.m. However, fate and circumstance has forced them to give cohabitation a try after Amy’s older daughter, Ava, 21, needed to quickly and unexpectedly move out of her apartment after a cockroach infestation. After Amy suddenly found herself with a full apartment, she decided to move in with T.J. full-time.

“Robach and I have been living together full time as of two weeks ago,” T.J. said on the Sept. 30 episode. “It was not by choice.”

The 47-year-old went on to credit the newfound living arrangement with Amy’s daughter, Ava, 21, whom she shares with her ex-husband Tim McIntosh. The New York-based couple have apartments within walking distance to one another, but Amy, 51, has recently moved into T.J.’s home full-time.

“Ava has an apartment in the Village,” Amy explained of her daughter. “It has a massive roach infestation.”

Sharing that her daughter has a “hoarder” living in the apartment next to her, Amy noted that Ava has come home to find roaches all over her apartment, including in her sheets. As T.J. explained it, “Armies of roaches making their way from his apartment to hers.”

And when Ava saw roaches coming in through her air conditioning unit, she decided she had to vacate the property.

“They are getting a new apartment in this building away from this man, this hoarder, but in the meantime, I’ve got people all in my apartment living with me,” Amy explained. “So I’ve just said, ‘Hey, y’all, knock yourselves out. I’ll be at T.J.’s.’”

Amy, who is also mom to daughter Annalise,18, shared that Ava is supposed to be moving out of her apartment this weekend.

“This is what you do for your kids. I know you’re excited to be able to help them out,” T.J. said of his girlfriend. “I’ve enjoyed the time we’ve had together. It’s been a little different, but I’ve liked it.”

Amy agreed, saying, “It’s been great.”

However, there’s one living condition that the couple can’t seem to agree on.

“It’s too damn cold at night,” T.J. insisted. “That’s an issue.”

Amy noted, “That’s always been our issue. I like things cooler, you like things warmer.”

[From Yahoo News]

It was really nice of Amy to let Ava and her roommates stay at her place. I would have noped out of there and burned the whole apartment down the second I saw those roaches in my sheets, let alone coming out of the air conditioning vent. That’s so gross. I’m not sure I’d even want to stay in the same building to be honest. I wonder if Amy will move back into her apartment after Ava leaves. Or at the very least, hold onto it so that her younger daughter, Annalise, 18, has a home base to go back to when she’s home from the University of Colorado Boulder. At the very least, I’m sure T.J. and Amy will get a good two-to-seven months of podcast content out of their cohabitation experiences.

As for their disagreement about the temperature, I think it’s funny that Amy’s the one who runs hot and T.J. is the one who likes to keep the thermostat higher. My mom and I both like it warmer and my husband and dad both like it cooler. Although with the Nest app, it makes it so much easier to adjust the temperature without instant detection. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve heard, “Put on a sweater!” over the course of my lifetime, lol.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes explain how their emotional affair started

By now, everyone knows all about Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ relationship. How could we not? They’re constantly talking about it. They have a whole ass podcast in which they tell their side of the story. According to T.J. and Amy’s own words, the two first started having feelings for each other sometime during the summer of 2022. They both claim that they were secretly separated from their then-spouses at the time and fell for one another organically by spending so much time together at work (and, according to rumors, drinking together every day after work). Yeah, sure, they were sneaking around in secret, but they swear that they never cheated.

On their first-ever episode, Amy and T.J. talked about their secret longing for one another prior to getting together. A couple of weeks ago, they did a live filming of their podcast where they talked about keeping their crumbling marriages a secret from everyone at GMA and how embarrassed they were at how it all played out. During that same taping, they reiterated that their affair began as an emotional one and that it was more of a “Guilty as Sin?” situation than a physical affair. In fact, T.J. claimed that he told Amy that he was in love with her before the two of them even “held hands.”

“I don’t [think] I ever, like, touched your hand,” she told Holmes during the episode, adding, “We never held hands. There was nothing physical. And I never in my life could have imagined feeling that kind of love for someone where it never started out as lust. … It was just this deep foundation of friendship, love, respect.”

“We had been in the trenches together on television, in a very high-stress situation in the network newsroom, and we had been there for each other in our darkest moments,” she continued. “We started leaning on each other in so many emotional ways. And it was just there was such a depth to what we had. It was so different than anything I’ve ever experienced.”

During the episode, Robach also explained how her cancer journey, which began when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2013, played a “huge role” in her decision to pursue her feelings for Holmes.

“I asked myself, if your cancer came back, and you knew you had one year to live, how would you spend it? And it wasn’t even close. I would spend it with T.J.,” she explained. “I have preached, and I’ve given speeches to breast cancer survivors … and anyone who’s gone through anything life-threatening or had anything where you thought you might die, whatever it is. You learn that tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Despite the controversy around their relationship and the professional setbacks they’ve faced, Robach and Holmes told the audience at the June 10 event that the couple’s rocky journey has ultimately been worthwhile.

“The journey that’s brought us here in front of you, we can be grateful for,” Holmes said. “When that rare thing happens in — maybe it’s love — but when it’s right there in front of you, life is too short, you have to go for it.”

[From People]

So yes, that’s their story and they’re sticking to it. Falling in love with a close coworker is not even an original story. Tale as old as time or whatever. I’m still side-eyeing their timeline and the claim that they weren’t cheating. I do understand Amy’s feelings about seizing the day after having cancer, though. She handled her feelings for someone else poorly by acting on them. You can live your truth without hurting those around you and blowing up your career.

Anyway, do you think that at some point they’ll stop talking about themselves and their origin story? Surely, they have more interesting things to say. They may not work for GMA anymore, but they’re both still journalists, for goodness sake. I looked at a list of recent guests on the pod and they include Tiffany Haddish, The Bachelor’s Matt James, Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Schwartz, Gavin Rossdale, RHOM’s Larsa Pippen, A.J. McLean, Cheryl Burke, and Below Deck’s Captain Lee. Episodes in between are basically “shoot the sh-t” type discussions about their personal lives or a topic in the news at the moment. I bet they could pivot into something more if they really wanted to. It only takes one good scoop to be relevant again.
