Keanu Reeves reunited with his band, Dogstar, to perform after 20 years

Is there any celebrity who is as beloved as Keanu Reeves? Besides Dolly Parton? I don’t think so. Whenever Keanu is in the news I know it’s going to be for something good. And how blessed we are to have not one but two Keanu stories today. The first is that he performed with his band Dogstar for the first time in twenty years. I am a young-ish millennial so I did not know about Dogstar, it was before my time. It was a band Keanu was part of from 1991 until about 2002, but it was always overshadowed by Keanu’s acting projects. The band reunited at BottleRock festival in Napa and sounded pretty good!

Keanu Reeves… played bass with his old rock band Dogstar in its first public concert in more than 20 years Saturday at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival in Napa California, Deadline reported.

Dogstar never really hit it big, but with the “Matrix” star providing the celebrity power, thousands watched him with bandmates Bret Domrose, the lead singer, and drummer Robert Mailhouse.

Reeves jumped for joy as the the band began its set in video shared by the San Francisco Chronicle’s Mariecar Mendoza.

“We were hoping we wouldn’t see a lot of grass. This is awesome,” Domrose told the crowd, SF Gate reported.

Screams of “We love you, Keanu!” accompanied every number, according to SFGate. Reeves said about as much as he did in the recent blockbuster “John Wick: Chapter 4,” but he allowed afterward that he was nervous. He credited Mailhouse with easing his stage jitters.

“He was just super positive,” Reeves told The San Francisco Chronicle. “He was like, ‘Listen to the music. Just be present in the song, and it will go from there.’”

[From The Huffington Post]

There are some videos embedded in that article that show Keanu playing the bass and it’s distracting how hot he is. I am also distracted by the fact that he is wearing orange pants that perfectly match his bass guitar. But he’s better than I expected! What I always notice about Keanu as a performer is his stillness and poise. He makes things seem effortless. That’s why it surprised me to read that he was nervous and needed support from his band mate, because he doesn’t look nervous at all. Then again, twenty years between performances is a long time. Of course I’m sure a lot of people were there just to see him–if I had known he was performing in person on the same coast as me, I would have bought festival tickets and a plane ticket months ago.

The second story comes to us courtesy of Kate Beckinsale’s Instagram. She posted a throwback photo from her first time at the Cannes Film Festival thirty years ago. Back then she was starring in Much Ado About Nothing with Keanu, Denzel Washington, and Robert Sean Leonard. The story behind the photo is a sweet one: Keanu and Robert were helping her hide a wardrobe malfunction on the biggest night of her career.

“I had bought the bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport,” she explained, “and when I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open and it flipped up like a roller blind.”

Beckinsale, 49, “didn’t feel it was appropriate to go delving around in [her] undercarriage” to clip her bodysuit back together, so she “just quietly panicked.”

Upon exiting the vehicle and stepping out “onto the biggest red carpet of [her] life,” the “Pearl Harbor” star “whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened.”

“In this picture I am holding the front gusset down and the two of them are holding the back gusset,” she shared, referring to the reinforced piece of fabric sewn into a garment.

Beckinsale went on to call the actors “absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word ‘gusset’ before.

“But both jumped in to save me no questions asked x.”

[From Page Six]

I tried to find more photos from that night to get a better sense of Kate’s outfit. I think she was wearing a bodysuit under a skirt or a dress and it was riding up at her waist? Either way, of course Keanu would do the gentlemanly thing and help her out. That’s what Keanu does. He is, by all accounts, one of the good ones. I would have had no idea, looking at the photo, that anything was amiss. Everyone looks so young and carefree. Keanu and Kate are both beaming at Denzel Washington–I wonder if he had any inkling of what was going on. Did they have to move across the red carpet like, that, as a unit? That makes me think of the famous scene in Bringing Up Baby where Cary Grant’s character accidentally tears the back of Katharine Hepburn’s dress off. He has to awkwardly walk behind her with his arm around her waist to protect her modesty while she tries (and fails) to keep the panic out of her face. It’s a hilarious scene. Also, how different was the red carpet in 1993? No actress at Cannes today would have bought part of their red carpet ensemble at a sock store at the airport. Things are so much fancier now.

Kerry Washington in Donna Karan at the VF Oscar Party: not great or lovely?

Kerry Washington attended the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a champagne Donna Karen gown. Fortunately, Vanity Fair stuck with their traditional black carpet, so the dress wasn’t washed out by the beige nonsense like at the Oscars. Unfortunately, the dress isn’t great. And it’s too bad because Kerry has been killing it of late, too. Her styling is fabulous but the tattered neckline and messy gathering at the waist makes it look like she tried to upcycle a satin bedsheet. At least Kerry knows how to work a gown. She’s elevating this.

Me expecting Kate Beckinsale to hit the mark at the VF party is starting to feel like Charlie Brown kicking the football. I got my hopes up when I saw the clean perfection of this Tony Ward asymmetrical neckline. And then I looked down and got sad. As someone who isn’t eager for the sheer skirt trend to come back in the first place, I certainly don’t want it paired with all of my grandmothers saved tinfoil balls. And I’m tired of Kate in a high ponytail. She looks fine in it, but we’ve seen it so many times.

Emma Roberts brought divorce party realness to VF in this Dolce & Gabbana corseted gown. I love these two pieces separately. The lace bodice with chiffon skirt is quite pretty. And the sheet lace-trimmed widow’s cape is sexy and dramatic. But because it has a defined choker, it’s competing with the dress’s neckline. It’s also throwing off Emma’s styling, which would have worked for the gown alone. But with the cape, it looks like she’s play-acting.

I’m waffling on Minnie Driver’s Emilia Wickstead gown. I mostly love it. I don’t like the pearl ladder on the side. I love the green floral print and am choosing to believe that’s Minnie’s shout-out to St. Patrick’s Day coming up. The top is a little boring, but I love the full luscious skirt. The winners though, are the back detail and earrings. I’ll bet this was amazing in motion.

Jason Momoa kate beckinsale

So what, if anything, happened between Jason Momoa & Kate Beckinsale?

Several smaller “Oscar party stories” got lost in the Chris Rock-Will Smith story, including this one. By that I mean, I kept thinking “is that real?” and then I forgot to write about it. The story is that Jason Momoa, a beautiful man who is actually not back with his wife, was seen partying with Kate Beckinsale on Oscar night. It was at the Vanity Fair party after the Oscars, and Kate was wearing some gauzy black dress. She was cold, so Jason wrapped his tuxedo coat around her and she spoke like that for a few minutes. I WOULD PASS OUT. If Jason took off his coat and put it over my shoulders and looked down at me as he spoke softly, I would absolutely black out and fall to the floor. So what’s really happening?

Aquaman star Jason Momoa doesn’t need a trident to save the day in real life. At the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party on March 27, the actor was photographed offering Kate Beckinsale his jacket to keep warm.

“They were standing at a bar chatting,” a source inside exclusively told E! News. “They both had smiles on their faces and were very much into their conversation.”

Both stars “looked really happy,” the source said, explaining that they were also seen mingling throughout the night. In between, Jason, who the source called “a social butterfly,” hung out with stepdaughter Zoë Kravitz. Meanwhile, Kate chatted with Rita Ora, Jessica Alba and Sienna Miller.

Jason and Kate’s sighting comes a little more than two months after the Dune actor and his wife Lisa Bonet announced they were splitting up.

[From E! News]

As you can see from the photos, they do look cozy and friendly, but I looked through all of those photos, and Jason was circulating and talking to different people, it’s not like he was attached to Kate in particular. I think he’s the kind of guy who enters a crowded room and ends up being some kind of weapon of mass charisma and every single person in the room feels like they have a special connection to him. But sure, I could definitely see Kate and Jason having some fun together. I think it’s more likely that he would date Emilia Clarke though!

Kate Beckinsale needs to take a bath every day to transition from day to night

Kate Beckinsale attends the 'Suicide Squad 2‘ movie premiere

Kate Beckinsale has a new brand-ambassadorship: she’s the new spokesperson for MRVL’s Skin Solutions, a skincare brand. While I think Kate is very beautiful and she has lovely skin, I’m not sure I would hire someone who has so much cosmetic work? Of course, she denies that she’s had work done, but we have eyes. To promote this skincare company, Kate chatted at length with People Magazine about her skincare regimen and how she takes baths every day. Some highlights:

Her skincare routine: “I didn’t really have a skincare routine until I was much older, probably in my late thirties, early forties. I’m really lucky, my mum’s got really good skin. I think obviously some of it is a genetic thing, although you can mess that up. I didn’t see sun for the first several decades of my life and that’s probably been a big help. A great deal of it was geography [growing up in England], but the other thing was on the very rare occasions when we would go on a family vacation somewhere hot, I was paranoid that I would get freckles in a mustache formation on my face. So I was wearing Factor 70 [SPF]. I just didn’t want a mustache, that’s really why I used sunscreen.”

Her go-to products: Beckinsale’s other hero products include Cetaphil soap, Pantene shampoo and conditioner, “my hair really likes it,” she says, plus cherry and strawberry Chapstick, which she calls her “absolute jam” and still uses today. “Skincare-wise, I’ve never done anything crazy like a peel. I really would like to, because I see people who’ve had them but I just think something will go wrong and I’d be scarred.”

Why MRVL: “[The company] has such a lovely setup in terms of philanthropy. They have these orphanages that they contribute money towards. Plus the product is amazing. So given that and I really liked what the company was doing, I thought, ‘Great.’ I didn’t want to be behind something that I didn’t like.”

She doesn’t like to shill products: “I’m an actress, I don’t want to be selling products,” she says, but that idea is “slightly more interesting to me as I’m older, to be honest with you. Of course you’re going to have great skin when you’re 19 years old. I think people are slightly more interested in ‘How do you not turn into a walnut overnight?’”

Scorpion milking: MRVL’s products incorporate a peptide (humanely) derived from scorpion venom. “It’s super unusual. There’s no other products that have this particular peptide,” says Beckinsale. “I was incredibly concerned [at first], ‘Okay there’s something from a scorpion. Like, what the f— have we done to the scorpion?’ That was my first concern, we’re not crushing up a scorpion? No. It’s all very careful and gentle and it’s hand-milking. I can’t imagine milking a scorpion, but here we are.”

She’s not obsessed with aging: “I think other people seem to be very obsessed with aging in a way that I am not. I am asked about that a lot. The minute I turned 31, press-wise, they’d say, ‘Heading towards 40.’ And you just go, ‘Pardon?’ nobody said that to me when I was 10 and I was almost 20. It’s a very different thing. So I think it’s possible for people to create 40 as a real terrifying moment. I found 39 much harder precisely because of that, but I’m in a much happier situation in my forties than I was in my thirties. But I don’t actually think about it that much. I think about it because people ask me about it, but I don’t think I would [otherwise]. Things haven’t started to fall off yet and I haven’t had crazy hormone changes. [Those are coming] down the road and I’m sure that will make me think about it much more, but at the moment nothing feels wildly different than it has for a while.”

She needs her baths: “I literally cannot transition from day to night unless I have submerged myself in water. Which is really annoying because I could get a hotel room and it’ll have cockroaches and go, ‘Okay, fine,’ But if [the room] doesn’t have a bathtub, I’ll be like, ‘Sorry, can I move?’ I really need to have that every day, no matter what. Even when it’s Oscar night and you’re getting home at seven in the morning once you’ve been to 15 parties. I still have to go through the whole bath thing.”

[From People]

She’s 48 years old, I think she probably has been dealing with hormonal changes and maybe she’s just one of those women who breezes through it. The kind of woman who can say in all seriousness that she doesn’t even think about aging, and that she has to take a bath every day. The bath everyday thing is very British, right? There aren’t many Americans who need to be submerged in water every day. As for her must-have products… I switch between Pantene and Suave because I like the smells and I think they work well on my hair, so I’m with her on that. I also think she is right to talk about good genes and not spending a lot of time in the sun.

Priyanka Chopra in Richard Quinn at the Fashion Awards: garish & tragic?

Fashion Awards 2021 red carpet.

Here are some photos from last night’s Fashion Awards in London. British designer Richard Quinn was by far the most popular designer of the night, and Quinn dressed so many women and men for the event. I feel like Priyanka Chopra was supposed to be the biggest name wearing Quinn, and I also feel like Quinn did her dirty! The first thing is that floral fabric is just fundamentally bad. It’s too orange, the colors are too garish. The actual design is pretty terrible too, with that Dracula collar and puffy shoulders and… just everything. Poor Pri. Nick Jonas was with her and they looked happy, even if he was probably like “baby what are you wearing?!?”

Elsa Hosk in Richard Quinn. This is the kind of gown I would expect to see at the Emmys or SAGs. It’s not bad, per se, although I don’t think the gloves help.

Stella Maxwell in Saint Laurent. She has the figure to pull this off and it looks amazing on her.

Kris Jenner in Tommy Hilfiger (she attended with the designer and with her boyfriend Corey Gamble). I actually sort of like Kris’s older-lady, rich-LA style and I’m generally fine with this. I just wish the pants were tailored better.

Kate Beckinsale’s hospitalization was caused by putting on leggings

BGUS_2183573_004

Last month my British bae Kate Beckinsale was rushed to the hospital while filming in Vegas. At the time, the only thing that we knew about the incident was that she injured her back. She posted a photo looking gawjus in a hospital bed. Kate was recently on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Kate told James that she wasn’t even filming a scene when she injured herself. Kate said she was getting dressed in her hotel room and when she bent over to pull up her leggings she heard her back pop like a “guitar string snapping.” Kate said she couldn’t “walk, lay down or sit down.” An ambulance came and that they had to roll Kate in a sheet to get her to the hospital. Below are a few more details via Today:

“Well, having done eight or nine hundred action movies, I hurt myself putting on a pair of leggings in a hotel room,” the “Jolt” star said.

While Corden said he’d assumed Beckinsale had hurt herself by falling off a building or doing another crazy stunt on set, she told him she was actually filming an “intense, emotional drama” when she sustained her injury.

“It felt like a kind of guitar string snapped. And everything was horrific,” Beckinsale said. She added that the immediate pain was “worse than having a baby.”

Beckinsale said she tried to figure out how she could get to the hospital, but added she couldn’t walk, lay down, sit down or “do anything.”

“Eventually an ambulance came and they sort of rolled out a sheet and picked me up in it like a sort of sausage and put me on a gurney and then I went to the hospital and was given a lot of drugs,” she said.

Beckinsale, who doesn’t drink, said she quickly found out during her hospital stay “what kind of a drunk” she is.

“I’m not a ‘do you know who I am, have you seen all my films’ type, which is a huge relief because I’m really glad I’m not,” she said. “But I am a ‘everybody’s trying to steal my f—— ovaries’ person.”

[From Today]

The way Kate recounted this story to James (video posted below) had me cracking up. Kate is hilarious. She is one of the few celebrities I follow on IG because she is so funny. I guess despite being extremely fit and looking youthful (supposedly without “help”) Kate’s body is telling her she is getting older. I have had my fair share of back injuries and my back going out. I know that sort of pain and couldn’t wish it on my worse enemy. I also thought it was insane that she hadn’t injured her back while doing some sort of stunt for an action movie which is what I thought had happened. Instead she sustained her injury by putting on a pair of leggings, quel shame. The fact that they had to roll Kate into a blanket and carry her out like sausage tells me it was a pretty bad strain.

I am glad my girl crush Kate is healthy and has mended over the last month. She looked great on the show and she has been up to her normal shenanigans on her Instagram, showing that her back is no longer injured. Hopefully, Kate has received some treatments and instructions to help her maintain great back health. On a side note, I am looking forward to seeing Dave Grohl do a drum battle with Kate’s really cute cat. That would definitely be entertaining.

Kate Beckinsale on plastic surgery: ‘I haven’t had any… I just literally haven’t’

Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Kate Beckinsale is 47 years old and she has the line-free, youthful visage of a woman half her age. It’s insane. Some women win the genetic lottery and some women spend a lot of time and money taking care of their skin and their bodies properly. I believe Kate is all of the above – good genes, and she takes care of herself, she hydrates and moisturizes and uses expensive face creams and stays out of the sun. I also think she’s gotten some good-quality help from a surgeon or dermatologist along the way. There’s no shame in it! Whatever she’s done, it’s been pretty subtle. But Kate wants us to know that she hasn’t had any surgical work done. And she claims she’s never had Botox, and she doesn’t get facials. WTF?

Kate Beckinsale has had it with plastic surgery speculation. The actress, 47, set the record straight on Sunday, sharing that she gets “pissed off” when people assume she’s gone under the knife.

“I haven’t had any [work done],” she told The Sunday Times. “I’m not against people having it. [But] I do get pissed off. It’s sort of a given that I’ve had it, which I just literally haven’t.”

The “Underworld” actress inherited her filler-free philosophy from her mom, who is so “suspicious” of cosmetic treatments she “wouldn’t even get a facial.”

“I’m frightened of paralyzing my face. My mum’s voice is in my head, very loud, at all times,” the actress explained, adding that she’s never been tempted to try injections, either. “I know if I did do Botox, I’d be the one that would get the droopy eye and my mum would go, ‘I f—king told you! See? You should never do that.’”

It seems good genes are partially to thank for Beckinsale’s ageless beauty, as she gushed about her mother, Judy Leo, saying the 76-year-old still “looks f—king radiant and amazing.”

Although the star has stayed above pressure to get plastic surgery, she admitted that aging in the public eye comes with its challenges. “I think, when you start out, people perceive you as attractive it’s helpful at first. If people start thinking that’s your main thing, I don’t think that’s helpful to anyone, least of all you,” she told the outlet, adding that all women – not just Hollywood superstars – are subject to constantly shifting beauty standards.

“I think women are damned anyway,” she added. “You’re seen as too young, you’re too old. Where is the f—king sweet spot for women? At some point you just have to go, b—tch — this is me.’”

[From Page Six]

Do you believe her? Eh. I do not. Again, whatever she’s done, she hasn’t overdone it all. But you can tell that it’s not all natural. Her forehead, her eyes, a little pull at the jaw. She looks great, no doubt. But it’s not just “washing her face with soap and water” or whatever. It’s her business, completely. But I find strange that we’re supposed to believe a 47-year-old is *supposed* to look 25 years old, and then the same 47-year-old tells us that she looks like a 25-year-old naturally. GMAFB.
