Zoe Kravitz & Austin Butler wore his-and-hers Saint Laurent to their premiere

Here are some photos from the London premiere of Caught Stealing, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Zoe Kravitz, Austin Butler and Matt Smith. It looks like the kind of offbeat, violent movie which used to be made all the time, but the fact that it’s being dumped in the dead of August without any film festival premieres just shows you that there’s very little faith in it commercially. Too bad, because it feels like Austin really needs to prove that he can carry a movie without the Elvis voice. Dune 2 doesn’t count, although he was wonderful in that! But it wasn’t HIS movie – he just gave a scene-stealing supporting performance.

Austin and Zoe both wore Saint Laurent. Did they coordinate on purpose, a little his-and-hers black-and-white YSL? There were many, many rumors that this movie ruined Austin and Zoe’s other relationships at the time – Zoe quickly ended her engagement to Channing Tatum and Austin ended things with Kaia Gerber. Zoe and Austin have, I believe, been quietly dating for months, and there’s some evidence for that belief!

InStyle devoted an article to Zoe’s “divisive hair trend” from the “early 2000s”: side bangs. While I’m an avowed bangs-hater, I don’t have a huge issue with Zoe’s lil’ side bangs. What bugs me is the “wet-look hair” which certain women are trying to bring back. My wet-hair culture is not a costume!! Stop trying to make “wet-look hair” into a thing! That goes for Kim Kardashian too, she’s been trying to make this into a trend for a decade. As for Austin… I will pay him $20 to wear a shirt with a collar. He’s also trying to make a trend happen: tanks under baggy suits. Enough!!

Zoe Kravitz is just ‘hanging out’ & ‘having fun’ with Austin Butler right now

I wholeheartedly believe two pieces of gossip about Zoe Kravitz’s love life. One, I believe Channing Tatum was the reason why Zoe’s first marriage, to Karl Glusman, ended so swiftly in December 2020. Two, I believe Austin Butler is the reason why Zoe’s engagement to Channing Tatum ended so swiftly last year. The timing checks out in both instances, and I’ll give Zoe some credit: as soon as she feels herself being pulled towards another man, she ends the relationship she’s currently in. She’s not carrying on months-long affairs, you know? Well, Austin and Zoe have been relatively quiet since she split with Channing. No one has said that they’re dating, but they wrapped filming on Caught Stealing and they’re still hanging out with one another. In March, they went to the same Paris Fashion Week events and he was seen leaving a party hosted by Zoe. Now “sources” are giving some indication about what’s happening behind the scenes:

Are they going to steal each other’s hearts? “Caught Stealing” co-stars Zoe Kravitz and Austin Butler play love interests in the upcoming film, but have sparked real-life romance rumors after they were seen kissing on set in October 2024, a month before filming wrapped. The 36-year-old actress also shockingly called off her engagement to Channing Tatum that same month after three years of dating.

Neither Kravitz, 36, nor Butler, 33, have addressed their apparent spark, but, a source close to the Kravitz family told Page Six, “it’s nothing serious” as her star continues to soar.

“With Austin, it’s an opportunity to have fun, keep her mind off things right now. I’m sure she’s not the happiest with what happened [with Tatum]; it’s a good way for her to have fun and hang out. Who wouldn’t be interested in Zoe? She is gaining the clout that can definitely help someone’s career. He’s [Butler] the ‘it’ guy in Hollywood, she’s the ‘it’ girl. I’m sure he’s not opposed to the attention,” the source said.

Butler’s rep denied there was any romance between the two.

Kravitz was also photographed leaving a Los Angeles bar in March with “To All the Boys” actor Noah Centineo, 28, ahead of the Oscars. Tatum, meanwhile, was spotted with his new girlfriend, Australian model Inka Williams, 25, last month in West Hollywood shortly after a pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles in February.

The source told Page Six that Kravitz’s mom and dad, Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, “loved” Tatum, but the timing for their relationship wasn’t right.

“They [Lisa and Lenny] loved him. They absolutely loved him. There was no explosive fighting or anything going seriously wrong or craziness happening [between Channing and Zoe]. It seemed like they were in different places, and it didn’t work for them,” the source said. “Zoe’s star is on the rise. His star is on its decline a bit.”

[From Page Six]

That’s kind of mean about Channing’s “star on decline.” I’m pretty sure he’s made a conscious choice in recent years to not work so much and to actually take time off for his daughter. It also makes Zoe sound like she’s dating certain men to further her career, which… is not Zoe’s deal at all. I’m not judging actresses who do that, but Zoe dates guys for old-fashioned reasons: she’s attracted to them. She’s hot for Austin Butler and I suspect he’s hot for her too. He split with Kaia Gerber around the same time as Zoe and Channing split too. I think we’ll soon get a hard launch of Austin and Zoe.

Austin Butler & Kaia Gerber broke up after three years of dating

It’s interesting when people break up around the holidays, like they want to be single for the new year. It’s a “new year, new me, new dating life” vibe. Well, that’s what Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber have done. It looks like they broke up before Christmas and Austin didn’t go on the Gerber family’s Christmas vacation. They were together for over three years?

Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler have called it quits.

More than three years after going public with their relationship in March 2022, the model, 23, and Oscar-nominated actor, 33, are going their separate ways, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

TMZ was the first to report the news, stating that the couple ended their relationship near the end of 2024. The outlet also noted that the Elvis actor was absent from the Gerber family’s recent vacation in Mexico.

Reps for Gerber and Butler have not responded to requests for comment.

The duo first sparked romance rumors in December 2021 when they attended a yoga session together in L.A. After being spotted together numerous times, they made their red carpet debut at W Magazine’s annual Best Performances party three months later in March 2022.

[From People]

Honestly, I always sort of forgot that they were together. They managed to be upfront about their relationship and they walked red carpets together, and yet people (raises hand) just kind of blanked on their relationship. I don’t even remember seeing much casual gossip about them on Page Six or People. They were together when Austin’s stardom really went next-level too. Anyway, I see him dating another model. She’ll probably date another actor too.

People loved Austin Butler’s white eyeliner at the Dune 2 premiere

I haven’t worn makeup in years, much to the chagrin of my mother. It’s not a protest, just laziness combined with always being in a rush in the morning. I used to have a lot of fun with it though, and liked to think that my painting background led to bold color choices. Some called it edgy, others clownish. Luckily very little photographic evidence survives. But I’m still enthusiastic when someone takes a risk with their red carpet look. I loved Florence Pugh’s futuristic Edie Sedgwick eye makeup at the New York Dune 2 premiere, and then I was excited to hear that Austin Butler donned some as well. The interwebs were likewise in favor:

Zendaya has been absolutely eating everyone up at the Dune: Part Two red carpets. From London… to Seoul… to New York. She’s been making her male costars look boring and basic. The men have, quite simply, not been putting in the work!

But now it seems that we have a glimmer of hope at the Dune 2 New York City premiere, where Austin Butler took the tiniest of fashion “risks.” He wore white eyeliner, and people seem to really, really like it.

A post about the eyeliner has over 30,000 likes on X. “Please save me Austin Butler with white eyeliner,” this fan said. “[T]hank you Jesus for giving us make up,” another fan said. Other people pointed out, well, his Elvis accent.

Either way, I know it’s extremely small, but baby steps are baby steps. Progress is progress!

Now, let’s get back to our regularly scheduled program of anticipating what Law Roach dresses Zendaya in next…

[From BuzzFeed]

Either the interwebs are in a collective effort to gaslight me, or I need another eye exam. Where is his eyeliner?!?! The only hint I get is in a close up shot where it looks like there’s kind of a highlighting line on his bottom lids (a trick I used to do myself). Is that what we’re talking about? With all the hype, maybe I was expecting something bigger. I know this ages me, but I feel like when Ewan McGregor used to wear eyeliner on the red carpet, you really knew he was wearing it. Ah, me. Assuming the white underlid liner is what everyone is talking about, good for Austin! I hope it gave him the feels he was aiming for! I just wish I could see it… I’ll give him this, though — he didn’t sound like Elvis to me in the interview clip.

Meanwhile, Austin met Sting at the premiere, who played the same role (Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen) in the 1984 David Lynch Dune film. Apparently, Sting offered to dry clean his codpiece from filming and loan it to Austin. Yes. The answer is yes, Austin.

Zendaya wore Stephane Rolland to the NYC ‘Dune 2’ premiere: gorgeous?

The cast of Dune 2 has taken the opportunity to dress up in the most futuristic or “alien” styles they can find, to mixed results. It’s cute though, especially with the women trying to compete with Zendaya. Last night was the New York premiere for Dune 2 and Zendaya wore this Stephane Rolland Haute Couture look. Once again, I’m grateful that Z’s brand ambassadorship with Louis Vuitton doesn’t mean that she has to wear LV exclusively. Law Roach is definitely finding some interesting stuff for her and I think this looks cool.

Florence Pugh wore Valentino – there have been so many variations on the “half-sack” dress, with the loose sack dress up front and the business (structure) in the back. This is a good variation, and Miss Flo’s makeup is wild.

Rebecca Ferguson as a goth princess/queen.

Anya Taylor-Joy wore Maison Margiela – if you told me this was another Dior, I would have believed you. I’m also including pics of a Prada-clad Timothee Chalamet and Austin Butler (who wore eye makeup). Austin also posed with Sting, who played the same character, Feyd Rautha, in the previous movie. Austin wore Haider Ackerman!

Austin Butler on calling ex Vanessa Hudgens ‘a friend’: I was respecting her privacy

I’m finding Austin Butler to be a fascinating young(ish) actor. Granted, I’ve only seen him in one performance, the one where he plays a leading man breaking out and desperate to make all the right moves and be taken seriously. But he’s really giving that role all he’s got! Right now Austin is doing double promo duties for his Apple series Masters of the Air (out now), and Dune: Part Two premiering March 1. Esquire put him on their March cover, and Austin gave them the kind of extra, overly self-aware yet somehow not self-aware at all interview we’ve come to love and expect from him. A few highlights:

‘The architecture of your mouth’: [Butler] has spoken about how certain face movements and poses are subconsciously adopted and how a voice is just the architecture of your mouth, which can get caught in patterns that make you sound like someone you aren’t. Weren’t. How living as another person — which is exactly what he did — isn’t something you drop, no problem, simply because the cameras are down. He does it again today. “There’s no denying you create habits … I had been practicing one way of using the muscles in my mouth for a long time, so it was a process of trying to unlearn those.”

The quick turnaround from Elvis to Masters: Having a project to distract him from the despair he felt over leaving the titular role was, Butler thought, going to be helpful. “There was something comforting about knowing I could pour myself into something else,” he says. His body had other plans. Three years of spiraling further and further down the rabbit hole of someone else’s psyche and abandoning his own sense of self completely had taken their toll. The morning after production on Elvis ended, at 4:00, he woke up in excruciating pain. Possibly his appendix? Butler was admitted to the hospital. Except it wasn’t his appendix. Or Covid. “My body just crashed.”

Oh good grief: The space between what you want to know about Austin Butler and what he wants to reveal is not a gap but a gulf. A throwaway question like “Do you live in an apartment or a house?” leads to a pause. A house in L.A., he answers at first, and an apartment in New York. “How much do I want to say about this?” he wonders aloud after the admission. I ask him if he’s eaten anywhere good while in town. “This is also hard,” he says in response to my second-easiest question. “I never know when I’m giving my favorite spots away.”

He’s curating his stardom: The thing is, Butler wants to be a particular kind of star. Not just a celebrity. Not just an actor. And he doesn’t want to mess it up. Certainly not by sharing too much. … That desire to probe and share is diametrically opposed, he says, “with the type of career that I want to have, which is to be able to step into all these different types of people. I think of the days of Paul Newman — we didn’t know a ton about his personal life.” It’s like that with a lot of the stars he admires. Leonardo DiCaprio. Christian Bale. Daniel Day-Lewis.

The friend faux pas: Last winter, as his Best Actor campaign began to bubble, it blew up in his face. When asked if he’d always wanted to play Elvis in a movie, Butler answered that “a friend” once told him he was a fit for the part. Except that friend was his former partner of nine years, Vanessa Hudgens, and she had, before and after his casting, posted about it on Instagram. The Internet ate him up, accusing him of downgrading her role in his life. “Oh, yeah, I learned a lesson with that one … I felt that I was respecting her privacy in a way and not wanting to bring up a ton of things that would cause her to have to talk. I have so much love and care for her. It was in no way trying to erase anything.” … The two dated for most of their twenties; their relationship saw the death of both Butler’s mother and Hudgens’s father. It was real, and those moments, as Butler sees it, belong only to them. “I value my own privacy so much,” he says. “I didn’t want to give up anybody else’s privacy.”

[From Esquire]

Where do we start? Austin is way over the top, for sure, but I feel like the interviewer was really meeting him halfway here. Case in point: “A project to distract him from the despair” of finishing Elvis. He’s got his own Greek Chorus with this writer! The part that had me howling the most, though, was his treating the fairly innocuous questions of “where do you live and eat” like he’s an undercover agent tasked with guarding state secrets. “A house in one city, and an apartment in another. CURSES, I’ve said too much!!” I also barked out a laugh at the suggestion that we don’t know anything about Leo DiCaprio’s personal life. Please.

With regards to Vanessa Hudgens, are we buying his explanation? It’s not a (state) secret they dated, nor that she championed him for Elvis. Why would saying “my ex” instead of “a friend” have been betraying her privacy? And finally, “not wanting to bring up a ton of things that would cause her to have to talk,” was… not the best assemblage of words from him.

Austin Butler needed a dialect coach to unlearn the Elvis accent

I think Austin Butler must frame the events in his life as BE and AE — Before Elvis and After Elvis. And look, I appreciate that he’s been working for decades and this was his big break. Even so, Austin has been pretty extra in his interviews, in whichever accent he was donning at the time. His approach was straight out of The Lady Gaga School of Method Acting & Oscar Campaigning™. But now it’s a new year, and Austin has a new prestige project to promote, Masters of the Air on Apple TV , so he can put all the Elvis accent talk behind— What’s that now? He’s still talking about the accent? Oh for the love of Tupelo…

Austin Butler got caught in an Elvis Presley trap.

The Elvis actor revealed that he needed some professional help to get rid of the music legend’s accent before shooting his new TV show, Masters of the Air, premiering on Apple TV Jan. 26.

“I had a dialect coach just to help me not sound like Elvis,” Butler admitted in a Jan. 24 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “It was a whole thing.”

In fact, the Golden Globe winner had to put in more work than simply dropping the accent, considering he practiced method acting for three years to prepare for his titular role in the 2022 Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic.

“I was just trying to remember who I was,” Butler continued. “I was trying to remember what I liked to do. All I thought about was Elvis for three years.”

Butler credited his Elvis costar Tom Hanks with convincing him to dive head-first into playing Major Gale Cleven in Masters of the Air, a World War II drama series that also stars Callum Turner and Barry Keoghan.

“I was having dinner with Tom Hanks in Australia,” the 32-year-old recalled. “He was sort of joking, saying, ‘You’re gonna lose your mind when you finish this three years of your life focused on this one thing. You’re gonna have to find something else to jump right into afterward.”

Hanks, who’s a producer on Masters of the Air, already had the Apple TV show in the works.

“I started a week after,” the Dune: Part Two actor said. “I had a week off after Elvis. It was almost too fast.”

Butler’s struggle to shake off his Elvis character has drawn a lot of attention from fans, but the Carrie Diaries star doesn’t let the scrutiny get to him.

“If I was trying to sound like Elvis, I would sound very different right now,” he told the Los Angeles Times in January 2022. “I think it’s sort of amusing to me how much people want to focus on this one thing.”

[From E! News]

“I think it’s sort of amusing to me how much people want to focus on this one thing.” Oh really, that’s how you want to play it, Mr. Butler? Ok then, at this point I need a chart, a graph, some kind of visual aid to assist in the timeline of his accent. Just one year ago Austin was denying he was still doing the accent, then walked it back when the rest of the world was like, “Dude, we have ears.” And now he’s saying that he engaged professional help to unlearn the accent in the one week he had off between finishing Elvis and starting Masters of the Air, which the interwebs tell me happened in 2021. Poor boy, I think he really is lost in his own narrative. And I find it hilarious that he’s still plowing full steam ahead with talking about his uber method acting. “I was just trying to remember who I was,” was particularly precious, especially since only a few months ago he was praising Tom Hardy for knowing how to drop into character during filming, instead of maintaining it all the time.

Last note: a shout out to the E! News reporter who, out of everything Academy Award nominee Austin Butler has been in, identified him as the “Carrie Diaries star.” That one had me chuckling, uh huh uh huh.
