George Clooney: ‘I have normalcy, I drive my kids to school every morning’

This week, George Clooney has been promoting Jay Kelly, his latest film. It’s directed by Noah Baumbach and I read one scathing review of it at the Daily Beast. The review notes that the film is “saccharine, toothless, and cheesily meta” and it’s “straining to thread a needle so that it bittersweetly laments its A-lister’s shortcomings while nonetheless forgiving him for them.” And on top of all that, Laura Dern plays Jay Kelly’s publicist. HARD PASS. Anyway, I wanted to note something I was thinking about as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage suddenly crashed and burned this week: one week ago, I definitely would have said that the Clooneys are much more likely to split than Keith and Nicole. Especially given the vibe around George and Amal for the past year. But according to George, everything is going swimmingly in his marriage and his family. From some of his assorted interviews:

His routines: “I have normalcy. You know, I drive my kids to school every morning. I have normalcy — except for this [premiere]!”

He isn’t suffering from a “what does it all mean” crisis like Jay Kelly: “There wasn’t that many similarities, in a weird way. Because he’s a guy who’s just so sad about his career and his life because he didn’t have friends and family, and he surrounds himself with people that just, he paid. I’ve been very lucky to have great family and great friends, and my kids actually like me still. They’re young.”

His big life lesson: “The greatest lesson I learned is to marry the right person, which I did. And so, it has been nothing but an honor and a pleasure to be married to my wife.” George, 64, also shared that he and Amal, 47, marked their latest anniversary by going out to dinner together.

The bloody school run! Did I miss a memo or something? When did “the school run” become the sole barometer for “a humbling experience and an equalizer among men?” The way Prince William goes on and on about the school run, you’d think it was the most important aspect of parenthood. As for his marriage… well, who knows. I certainly wouldn’t want to be married to a ratf-cking drama queen, but Amal certainly appears to be in it for the long haul.

Amal Clooney wore an Oscar de la Renta mini to the NYFF ‘Jay Kelly’ premiere

Here are photos from last night’s New York Film Festival screening of Jay Kelly, the awards-buzzy (??) film starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler. As you can tell from the tans and sunburns on George and Amal Clooney, they spent the summer abroad, mostly in Como, Italy. Once again, George doesn’t actually have to deal with the political situation he partially facilitated in America.

Amal’s dress is cute – it’s Oscar de la Renta and it’s a great color for her. Amal is all about her legs – she loves a minidress and mullet dress to showcase her legs. There’s no age limit on miniskirts, but I sort of wish the skirt had a few more inches. Amal’s hair looks healthier. I’m also including pics of my nemesis Laura Dern with her daughter, and Adam Sandler and his wife.

Netflix just released the Jay Kelly trailer yesterday and I get why they’re trying to make this into an awards-season contender. If you ask me, George can’t actually pull it off though? He’s playing a famous movie star who is having an existential crisis and looking back through his life alongside his manager, played by Adam Sandler. This is the kind of high-concept film which would have starred Cary Grant back in the golden age of Hollywood. But… Clooney is just too modern and too cynical for it. They’re trying to play on the fact that George IS a movie star, but that’s the reason why he can’t pull it off an actor, you know? Just my opinion. Dern’s presence is just another layer of bullsh-t for me.

Amal Clooney tried to out-dazzle her sick husband at the Venice ‘Jay Kelly’ premiere

George Clooney arrived in Venice earlier this week, where he was set to promote and premiere his new film, Jay Kelly. On Thursday, George was supposed to do the press conference and some individual interviews, but he ended up pulling out of all of it because he was feeling under the weather. They’re saying it’s a sinus infection, but I kind of wonder if he was suffering from the Don’t-Ask-Me-Political-Questions virus. His ratf–king with Jake Tapper blew up in his face, and while the international media might not care or ask, the American media might. Still, George “rallied” in time to walk the red carpet with Amal. He apparently told reporters that he can’t hear anything (convenient) and he was seen clutching his sore throat at times.

Amal looked… okay. While I love this vivid violet shade, I’ve never been into Amal’s love of mullet dresses. The train was very dramatic though, and the whole ensemble photographed very well, even if it’s a dated, button-covered disaster once you look at the details. In George and Amal’s early years, I loved her hair, and she regularly got really great blowouts back in the day. But in recent years, she’s been having a lot of bad hair days. Her hair is too long and it looks damaged and in need of some good conditioning treatments. Her colorist is also doing a terrible job!

Meanwhile, I was fully prepared to hate on this movie because of George Clooney, little did I know that my nemesis Laura Dern is also in Jay Kelly! LMAO, I hope this sh-t bombs so hard. Her bangs are trash!! (Her Armani is okay-ish although it looks unfinished.)

Eve Hewson in Schiaparelli – I kind of like this, and I usually roll my eyes at Schiaparelli.

Riley Keough in Chloé – it looks like something she would wear.

And finally, Greta Gerwig (her husband/partner Noah Baumbach directed Jay Kelly). This is custom Rodarte. Not bad.

George & Amal Clooney arrived in Venice, Amal wore an ’80s-looking dress

I have this weird thing where I always think the Venice Film Festival starts in early August, and I’m like “why aren’t celebrities in Italy yet??” And then by the time Venice starts in late August, it catches me off guard. So, obviously, the Venice Film Festival started today. A bunch of American stars have films premiering in Italy this year. Including George Clooney, who arrived in Venice on Tuesday with his wife in tow. He’s going to premiere Jay Kelly, which is supposedly some Oscar-bait whatever. I doubt it will turn out to be a contender, mostly because I believe George is still getting a lot of well-deserved sh-t from his activities and statements last year. But hey, Amal looked nice in a butter yellow (which is straight out of the ’80s, and yet it suits her) and Prada shoes. They got married in Venice in 2014.

What else? Julia Roberts is in town for the premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. Apparently, she had a cardigan sweater made with Guadagnino’s face printed all over. It’s sort of cute, but I wouldn’t have known that it was supposed to be Luca unless someone else pointed it out. I thought, “Is that Curly from the Three Stooges??” I’m also including a photo of Cate Blanchett’s arrival – she will premiere Jim Jarmusch‘s Father Mother Sister Brother. She’s also there (I’m assuming) as part of her Armani Beauty contract, since Armani is one of the big sponsors of this festival.

Between Amal, Cate and Julia, I certainly hope we get some interesting fashion to talk about in the coming days.

George & Amal Clooney have been successfully colonized by the Windsors

Here are some photos of George and Amal Clooney attending the King’s Trust TKMaxx and Homesense Awards on Thursday, just one day after the Clooneys attended a palace reception for the King’s Trust. Basically, the King’s Trust hands out “awards” to young people associated with or benefiting from the King’s Trust, and the trust has worked out sponsorship deals and branding rights with TK Maxx and Homesense, that’s why the name of the awards is somewhat confusing. While the King’s Trust is arguably one of King Charles’s best endeavors, these “awards” events seem rather low-energy, if not completely budget. I’m just saying, it looks like the Clooneys are really doing the most to cozy up to the Windsors by any means necessary, even if it means attending this event. They don’t even have to try this hard – even without Amal’s obvious desire to social-climb, the Windsors would have ended up pursuing the Clooneys anyway. The Windsors have set out to “colonize” any and all celebrity friendships, patronages and charities associated with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The Windsors have made a point, over and over again, to force friends-of-H&M to “choose sides.” And then the Windsors’ lackeys run to the Daily Mail to put a bow on their efforts:

It’s long been said that Meghan and Prince Harry have an unfortunate habit of ‘Markling’ those close to them – and have ditched several of their pals over the years. But as George and Amal Clooney joined King Charles for a star-studded reception at Buckingham Palace last night, it highlighted how several of the Sussexes’ friends have actually chosen the royal family over them.

The Clooneys were among the most famous non-royals to attend Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018 – and were said to have invited them to their house in Lake Como just weeks later. Yesterday the actor and his humanitarian rights lawyer wife turned on the charm for the royals – seemingly choosing their side in the transatlantic rift between the Prince and the rest of his family.

In many ways, it seems that Harry and Meghan’s move to the US has put more than just physical distance between them and some of their oldest friends.

Harry and William’s old pals, including the Duke of Westminster, Thomas von Straubenzee and William van Cutsem have all remained close to the Prince of Wales – but seem to have parted ways with Harry. And A-list pals who had once joined forces with the Sussexes, such as the Beckhams and Idris Elba, have now teamed up with the Royal Family for various projects.

Even Misha Nonoo, one of Meghan’s oldest friends, was seen chatting to Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall at Royal Ascot last week in another display suggesting she’s caught between both sides – while her friendship with the Duchess has gone suspiciously quiet.

[From The Daily Mail]

I’ve said this so many times, but it’s crazy every single time: the Windsors do so much for an audience of one, Prince Harry, and they don’t acknowledge or understand that they look batsh-t insane to everyone else. “Look at us, Harry, we’re friends with all of YOUR OLD FRIENDS!” “Look, Harry, we made your friend CHOOSE SIDES and he chose US!” The fact that the royals are actively pursuing all of these associations specifically because of Harry and Meghan isn’t a flex either – it’s a sign of a profound dysfunction at the heart of the monarchy.

George & Amal Clooney attended a palace reception for the King’s Trust

A few years into Amal and George Clooney’s marriage, they decided to “play the game” within British society. While Amal was already welcome in legal circles and some aspects of the upper echelons of British society, George’s name and money opened so many doors for her. They bought a fancy English country home, based themselves in England, and Amal began supporting various charities and causes which gave her more access to the highest rungs of society. One of the big ones was the then-Prince’s Trust, now the King’s Trust. In 2019, the Clooneys gave enough money that Amal was given some gaudy title within the trust, and bam, the Clooneys and their deep pockets were now invited to various palace events.

In 2023, the royal establishment did the same thing with the Clooneys which they did with the Beckhams: publicly demanded that the Clooneys “choose sides” in the war between the Windsors and the Sussexes. Well, it appears as if the Clooneys have chosen. Maybe they figure that George showed his whole ass in America, so they need to double-down on their efforts in the UK. The Clooneys turned up at Buckingham Palace yesterday for a King’s Trust reception.

You might argue, hey, Amal genuinely cares about so many causes, maybe she legitimately believes in the King’s Trust! Sure, but both things can be true: Amal is using the charity ladder to climb to the top of British society AND she cares about many issues. The big tell, for me, is that George was hamming it up at the palace – he has no position, no gaudy figurehead title within the King’s Trust. He’s still the reason why Amal gets invited to these events.

PS… Charlotte Tilbury was having a blast, she’s surprisingly tight with the royals too – she was hamming it up with Queen Camilla and Rose Hanbury last year too.

George Clooney got shut out of the Tony Awards & Amal wore Tamara Ralph

In retrospect, it’s really funny how Amal Clooney completely avoided being photographed with her husband in the months where he had a terrible dye job. George Clooney dyed his hair black to play Edward R. Murrow in the stage adaptation of Good Night and Good Luck, and he spent months wandering around New York looking like Lurch. Amal avoided his Lurch Era, but she’s come back now that the show is over and his hair is almost back to its normal grey. These are photos of the Clooneys last night at the Tony Awards. He told People Mag that Amal was “the happiest person” when he went back to grey. All of the dyed hair isn’t gone though, and now he really looks like he’s wearing a bad rug.

The Clooneys attended the Tony Awards because George was nominated for Best Actor and GNAGL was nominated in the Best Play category. Somewhat hilariously, the Tonys completely shut out GNAGL. Good. George has lost the plot, and during his turn on Broadway, he was an active participant in Jake Tapper’s anti-Biden bullsh-t. CNN was shilling hard for Clooney as well, airing GNAGL and pretending like it was some bold decision to do so. George deserves a lot worse than being shut out of the Tonys, but I’ll take this.

As for Amal, her dress is Tamara Ralph. Amal showcased the dress terribly, slouching over, shoulders slumped, twisting herself in knots to not tower over George. The dress itself is okayish, I guess – the pearl detailing is lovely, but the look is very bridal. I feel like the length of the dress was a weird choice too.
