Amal Clooney tried to out-dazzle her sick husband at the Venice ‘Jay Kelly’ premiere

George Clooney arrived in Venice earlier this week, where he was set to promote and premiere his new film, Jay Kelly. On Thursday, George was supposed to do the press conference and some individual interviews, but he ended up pulling out of all of it because he was feeling under the weather. They’re saying it’s a sinus infection, but I kind of wonder if he was suffering from the Don’t-Ask-Me-Political-Questions virus. His ratf–king with Jake Tapper blew up in his face, and while the international media might not care or ask, the American media might. Still, George “rallied” in time to walk the red carpet with Amal. He apparently told reporters that he can’t hear anything (convenient) and he was seen clutching his sore throat at times.

Amal looked… okay. While I love this vivid violet shade, I’ve never been into Amal’s love of mullet dresses. The train was very dramatic though, and the whole ensemble photographed very well, even if it’s a dated, button-covered disaster once you look at the details. In George and Amal’s early years, I loved her hair, and she regularly got really great blowouts back in the day. But in recent years, she’s been having a lot of bad hair days. Her hair is too long and it looks damaged and in need of some good conditioning treatments. Her colorist is also doing a terrible job!

Meanwhile, I was fully prepared to hate on this movie because of George Clooney, little did I know that my nemesis Laura Dern is also in Jay Kelly! LMAO, I hope this sh-t bombs so hard. Her bangs are trash!! (Her Armani is okay-ish although it looks unfinished.)

Eve Hewson in Schiaparelli – I kind of like this, and I usually roll my eyes at Schiaparelli.

Riley Keough in Chloé – it looks like something she would wear.

And finally, Greta Gerwig (her husband/partner Noah Baumbach directed Jay Kelly). This is custom Rodarte. Not bad.

Missouri woman pleads guilty in federal plot to sell Graceland

When a Memphis newspaper ran a foreclosure notice last May announcing that Graceland — the Memphis home of Elvis Presley turned tourist site — was being put up for auction, it set off a wave of suspicious minds. One of those was Riley Keough, Elvis’s granddaughter. Riley sued to stop the auction, and eventually the whole sordid story was unraveled. Con artist Lisa Jeanine Findley of Missouri assumed three identities and forged two signatures in her plot to extort $2.85 million from the Presley family, claiming that Elvis’s daughter (and Riley’s mom) Lisa Marie Presley had taken a $3.8 million loan, with Graceland as collateral, that was unpaid at the time of Lisa Marie’s death in 2023. Findley was charged last August on counts of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft, and pleaded not guilty. But I guess the prospect of a 20-year jailhouse rock had Findley all shook up, because this week she accepted a plea deal of guilty for the mail fraud charge, while the other charge was dropped:

A Missouri woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal charge accusing her of concocting a brazen plot to defraud Elvis Presley’s family by trying to auction off his Graceland mansion and property before a judge halted the mysterious foreclosure sale.

During a hearing in front of a Memphis judge, Lisa Jeanine Findley pleaded guilty to a charge of mail fraud related to the scheme. She previously pleaded not guilty to the two-count indictment, which also includes a count of aggravated identity theft that will now be dropped.

When asked by the judge if Findley was admitting guilt and accepting responsibility, she said “Yes.”

Findley will be sentenced on June 18. She would have faced up to 20 years if convicted, but she is expected to receive less than that under the plea deal.

Findley, of Kimberling City, falsely claimed Presley’s daughter borrowed $3.8 million from a bogus private lender and had pledged Graceland as collateral for the loan before her death in January 2023, prosecutors said when she was charged in August 2024. She then threatened to sell Graceland to the highest bidder if Presley’s family didn’t pay a $2.85 million settlement, according to authorities.

Findley posed as three different people allegedly involved with the fake lender, fabricated loan documents, and published a fraudulent foreclosure notice in a Memphis newspaper announcing the auction of Graceland in May 2024, prosecutors said. A judge stopped the sale after Presley’s granddaughter sued.

Experts were baffled by the attempt to sell off one of the most storied pieces of real estate in the country using names, emails and documents that were quickly suspected to be phony.

…After the scheme fell apart, Findley tried to make it look like the person responsible was a Nigerian identity thief, prosecutors said. An email sent May 25 to the AP from the same email as the earlier statement said in Spanish that the foreclosure sale attempt was made by a Nigerian fraud ring that targets old and dead people in the U.S. and uses the internet to steal money.

[From AP News]

As I said back when Findley was charged six months ago, I just can’t get over how involved and time consuming this scheme was. This is why I could never be a con artist, I’m too lazy! Sure, I’d be great with the details. But even just reading about Findley’s intricate plot leaves me exhausted. At the end of the day, wouldn’t an honest, legal job have taken less effort? And before you say “But the money wouldn’t be the same,” remember — she didn’t get away with it! She got caught in a trap and she can’t walk out.

Like many of you commented when this story first broke last year, I too am eagerly looking forward to the inevitable tv-or-film adaptation, which I nominate to be titled The (un)Talented Mrs. Findley. And if it’s not too distressing for her, I think it’d be a nice karmic touch if Riley Keough acted as producer. I like the idea of Riley making money off the woman who tried to scam her family out of millions, plus their legacy. Riley could find a way of doing it that won’t be cruel.

SW-MO woman makes national news. Pleads guilty of scheme to steal Elvis Presley family’s ownership interest in Graceland https://t.co/q9oKjco3hV — Lisa Jeanine Findley, 53, Kimberling City, attempted a fraudulent sale of Graceland — using a fake company, forged docs, & false…

Riley Kough is pushing back after Graceland was wrongly put up for public auction

This is a really bonkers story. The backstory: when Lisa Marie Presley passed away, Riley Keough basically had to deal with all of the Elvis estate issues on her own, given that Riley’s half-sisters are still under the age of 18. The money and the estate belongs to all three sisters, but Riley is in control right now. Riley spent months dealing with Priscilla’s attempts to continue to profit from Graceland and the Elvis estate, and now Riley is dealing with one of the craziest things I’ve seen in my life. Apparently, there’s a company trying to “sell” Graceland at auction because this company claims that Lisa Marie Presley took out a loan, using Graceland as collateral. But the whole thing is likely bullsh-t, and even if it was the case… Graceland is literally a Memphis landmark and on some kind of preservation registry. Behold, one of the weirdest stories of the week:

Graceland, the iconic home and burial site of the legendary Elvis Presley, is facing a dramatic and emotional turn of events. This historic estate, a symbol of the King of Rock and Roll, is set to be sold at a foreclosure auction this Thursday. The news has sent shockwaves through the Presley family and Elvis’ legion of fans around the world. According to a legal notice published earlier this month, Graceland and the surrounding land on Elvis Presley Boulevard will be auctioned off for cash to the highest bidder at Shelby County Courthouse on May 23, as reported by WREG-TV News.

Elvis’ granddaughter, actress Riley Keough, 34, who currently owns Graceland, is fiercely challenging the sale with a lawsuit, claiming it is ‘fraudulent.’ A temporary restraining order on the sale was issued on Monday, and an injunction hearing is set for Wednesday.

The legal notice claims that Riley’s mother, the late Lisa Marie Presley, allegedly signed a Deed of Trust in 2018 to secure a $3.8 million loan, using Graceland as collateral. This loan was purportedly taken through a Missouri company called Naussany Investments and Private Lending. Now, the company claims Lisa Marie did not repay the money before her untimely death at 54 last year.

However, Riley’s lawsuit, filed on May 15 in Shelby County Chancery Court, disputes these claims, stating that her mother did not borrow money from the company. “These documents are fraudulent,” the lawsuit declares, alleging that Lisa Marie’s signatures on the deed are forgeries.

The lawsuit also claims that Naussany Investments is not a legitimate company. The notary listed on the documents has denied notarizing Lisa Marie’s signature or ever meeting her.

[From Hello]

A fake notarization??? My question is… if Naussany Investments is an illegitimate company, how did they just swoop in and declare “we’re putting Graceland up for public auction” and everyone just went along with it? I’ve felt so sorry for Riley this whole time, ever since her mother passed away. Riley has had so much on her plate, trying to untangle all of Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s financial messes and figure out how to keep Graceland running as a tourist destination. Riley seems to have good lawyers though and she seems like a very sensible person. But wow, this really is bonkers.

Riley Keough attended the Emmys because she was nominated for Daisy Jones and the Six. She attended with her husband (who is very cute) and her grandmother, Priscilla Presley. Priscilla and Riley’s legal issues are over, they made some kind of deal and Riley ended up giving Priscilla a settlement from Lisa Marie’s estate. I’m a little bit surprised that Riley would even go public with Priscilla at the Emmys, but I guess they really did bury the hatchet. Riley wore this Chanel dress which isn’t great, but whatever. It’s not the worst.

Camila Morrone, also from Daisy Jones, attended the Emmys as well. She wore Versace and she looked great. I said this last night on Twitter, but it’s insane that Camila got “too old” for Leo.

Rachel Brosnahan also got a very good Versace. This was lowkey one of my favorite dresses of the night.

Riley Keough with dark hair in Chanel at the Globes: would be better without the overlay?

I watched the Golden Globes red carpet live stream on ET’s YouTube channel and both of the hosts, Marc Malkin and Rachel Smith, were awkward with the celebrities. I missed Laverne Cox! What happened to E!’s coverage? When Marc interviewed Riley Keough he kept pressing her about why she dyed her hair. She said she did it for a “thing” and also because she wanted it dark. She wouldn’t specify why she dyed it though and good for her. Riley was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series for Daisy Jones and The Six. That category went to Ali Wong and we’ll cover her shortly!

Riley was in a lacy Chanel column gown that would have been perfectly fine without the weird sheer and gold bib overlay. Her makeup was one of the best nude looks though and I like how it complemented her new dark hair.

Keri Russell was also in white, it was a big color last night, in a Jill Sander gown with a white tank and confetti flapper skirt – I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s kind of cool-looking, especially from the side, but I did not like her makeup and it was noticeable on camera. Someone put way too much kohl eyeliner under her eyes.

Nominee Gillian Anderson was in a white Gabriela Hearst gown with vulvas embroidered on the skirt! Like damn. It’s a lovely gown and the sentiment behind it is part of her mission to educate people about women’s bodies and sex education, like her character on the Netflix show.

Troian Bellisario was there with her husband, Patrick J. Adams, who presented along with his Suits costar, Gabriel Macht. She was in a silver net Oscar de la Renta that fit her like a glove. Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty were also there! Everyone wants Meghan to be in the Suits revival now that there’s such a renewed interest in the show.

Riley Keough reveals her daughter’s name: Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen

Riley Keough covers the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The interview was conducted before the strikes, and it was conducted after Riley and her grandmother worked out the legal issues over Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. Within a three-year period, Riley lost her brother and mother, she became a mother and she became the sole trustee of her mother’s complicated estate. She’s also one of three heiresses to Elvis Presley’s life and legacy, alongside her half-sisters Harper and Finley. Riley discussed all of this and more in what was a very moving interview. Like, it’s remarkable that Riley is just so grounded and, frankly, normal. She was a little bit of a wild-child, but mostly she’s just a suburban mom who has a lot of jobs. She also reveals her daughter’s name: Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen. Some highlights from VF:

She asked VF to come to Switzerland, where she was having treatment: “I have Lyme disease. I used this little break that I have to come and try and see if I can alleviate it a bit. It’s a holistic treatment center and offers all kinds of things that you can’t really do in America yet, like cleaning your blood.”

She’s a workaholic & she doesn’t know where she got her work ethic: “This is my first break in a lot of years. I’m a workaholic.” I ask where she thinks she got her work ethic from. “Not from my parents. Not from anyone in my family. I came out of the womb like that. I think we’re half nature, half nurture. I was naturally somebody that was very punctual and hardworking and wanted to do things. My upbringing was very different to that. It was very no-schedule: Sometimes we go to school, sometimes we don’t. That was what I was used to, so I was living out my teen and childhood years as though that was what I wanted. I’m definitely an adventurous and spontaneous person, but I thrive on routine. My parents said when I was little, I was very much trying to organize things and make things happen.”

An American girl: Keough’s father is Irish and Ashkenazi Jewish. Her mother was Scottish, Irish, Norwegian, Indigenous, and “very hillbilly.” As for herself, Keough says, “I’m an American girl.”

Living in Neverland when her mom married Michael Jackson: “My whole childhood was probably very extreme. In hindsight, I can see how crazy these things would be to somebody from the outside. But when you’re living in them, it’s just your life and your family. You just remember the love, and I had real love for Michael.” I point out the surreal fact that Keough has called both Graceland and Neverland home. “Which one did I like better? I spent more time at Neverland than Graceland, to be honest. That was a real home, whereas Graceland was a museum in my lifetime.”

She’s not wild anymore: “I don’t think the wildness exists in the same way now. I don’t really drink anymore, but definitely in my late teens into my mid-20s, I was an adventurer. Now I’m a bit of a granny.”

Falling for Ben Smith-Petersen in 2013: “I remember it so vividly, I just knew that we were going to have kids. It was, in hindsight, very strange. I didn’t know how we’d get there, but we did.”

Her daughter: Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen arrived via surrogate in August 2022. Keough says of surrogacy, “I think it’s a very cool, selfless, and incredible act that these women do to help other people. I can carry children, but it felt like the best choice for what I had going on physically with the autoimmune stuff.” As for her daughter’s name: Tupelo, of course, was the King of Rock and Roll’s birthplace in Mississippi.

On Priscilla challenging Lisa Marie’s will: “When my mom passed, there was a lot of chaos in every aspect of our lives. Everything felt like the carpet had been ripped out and the floor had melted from under us. Everyone was in a bit of a panic to understand how we move forward, and it just took a minute to understand the details of the situation, because it’s complicated. We are a family, but there’s also a huge business side of our family. So I think that there was clarity that needed to be had. Things with Grandma will be happy. They’ve never not been happy.”

When she last saw her mother: Keough saw her mother at a party for Elvis a day after the Golden Globes this year. “We had dinner. That was the last time I saw her. I remember thinking about how beautiful she looked, and that was my strongest memory of the dinner.” When Keough addresses the accumulated tragedies head-on, the sentences come in pieces: “I have been through a great deal of pain and I’ve had my.… Parts of me have died and I’ve felt like my heart has exploded, but I also feel.… I’m trying to think of how to phrase this.… I have strengthened the qualities that have come about through adversity.”

[From Vanity Fair]

She isn’t shady or insulting about Priscilla at all, and she even gives Priscilla a lot of credit for what she did with the Presley estate and all of that. But there is still some drama there, and my takeaway is that Riley did not appreciate the fact that Priscilla marched into court right away to challenge LM’s will, and Riley hated that it all spilled out into the public sphere. But there’s conciliation there too. As for Riley’s grief… heartbreaking. She’s really been through it. I hope Riley, Ben and baby Tupelo find their peace.

Riley Keough is now the sole heiress to Graceland & her mother’s estate

When Lisa Marie Presley passed away earlier this year, she was survived by her three daughters and heiresses, Riley Keough and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood, who are still minors. Lisa Marie always made it clear that she wanted Riley to take over her estate and deal with the web of financial dramas set up by Priscilla Presley. Lisa Marie’s body was barely cold when Priscilla marched into court and tried to invalidate LM’s will and block Riley from taking over her mother’s estate. What followed was several months of legal shenanigans. Everything seemingly ended in June, when Riley gave her grandmother a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.4 million and Priscilla dropped her attempts to invalidate the will. It felt like Graceland – Elvis’s former mansion, now a massive tourist attraction – was still going to be under Priscilla’s purview in some way, but as it turns out, not so much. Riley now owns everything from her mother’s estate.

Riley Keough, the grandchild of Elvis Presley, today was named the sole trustee of the estate of her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley. The appointment was approved during a hearing Friday before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lynn Healey Scaduto.

Priscilla Presley had filed a petition to challenge the validity of her late daughter Lisa Marie’s will in January. The legal action disputed a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will that excised Priscilla as trustee of the estate. Priscilla Presley’s attorneys said she only became aware of the “purported 2016 amendment” after Lisa Marie’s death. Lawyers also contend the amendment was never delivered to their client during Lisa Marie’s lifetime. The amendment removes Priscilla and Lisa Marie’s former business manager, Barry Siegel, as co-trustees and replaces them with Lisa Marie’s eldest children Riley and Benjamin Keough. The latter died in 2020.

The Daisy Jones & the Six star filed a 73-page petition on June 12 in support of her bid for the appointment to head what the family has dubbed the Promenade Trust. Keough had earlier reached a settlement agreement with Priscilla Presley and Michael Lockwood, the guardian ad litem for her two younger half-siblings, 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. Lockwood was Lisa Marie’s fourth husband before they divorced.

The 34-year-old Keough, whose real name is Danielle Riley Keough, also will preside over the sub-trusts for her half-sisters. Priscilla Presley will be a special adviser to the trust and receive a monthly payment for her role. Priscilla Presley also will be allowed to be buried at Graceland, the Memphis, Tennessee former home of Elvis Presley, which Keough will now own.

[From Deadline]

All of this makes Riley the sole owner and guardian of Graceland. I’m surprised by the news that Riley reached an agreement with Michael Lockwood as well – Lisa Marie and Lockwood were engaged in a long-running custodial battle over Harper and Finley. I suspect that Riley is simply a good person with great lawyers – she never seemed to “go to the mattresses” with her grandmother or Lockwood. She dealt with everything privately and quietly and she walked away with all of the power. And, I mean, this is actually what Lisa Marie wanted – she wanted Riley to inherit everything, despite what Priscilla claims now. I feel so sorry for Riley though – she gave birth to her daughter late last year, then she was deeply grieving for her mom, and dealing with all of this family and financial drama.
