In the past week, I’ve actually gotten a sense of minor panic from the Superman team at Warner Bros. The panic is about Nicholas Hoult and how everyone is thirsting over Blonde Hoult and his incredible fashion. Hoult was in New York last week for some early Superman promotion – he plays Lex Luthor in the film – and every time he stepped outside, he made news for his hair, his fashion, his magnificent Prada bag, and his fun, sexy energy. It’s truly a Hot Hoult Summer. So much so, the Superman team is like… wait, people are lusting over Lex Luthor?? What about David Corenswet, our SUPERMAN?

I bring this up because I was looking through the photos of the big LA premiere of Superman, it was almost as if photographers were given strict orders to NOT lovingly photograph Hot Blonde Hoult. He also must have been pushed off the red carpet quickly, because there really aren’t tons of photos of him. They’re trying to make Hot Corenswet Summer happen instead! Boooooo.

Honestly, though, I have no issue with Corenswet and I like his facial hair these days too. The beard makes him look less babyfaced, which definitely helps. His three-piece suit was much better than Hoult’s leather pants and aviator sunglasses. They really didn’t like that Hoult was becoming the people’s princess, damn. They made him dim his light!

Rachel Brosnahan looked great too – she wore Ralph Lauren. I’m not wild about the side cutouts which are supposed to be an optical illusion creating a more snatched waist. But the color is lovely and she and David look nice together. David Corenswet also brought his wife, Julia Best Warner (I had no idea that he is married).

Cynthia Erivo wore Armani & Ariana Grande wore a wicker basket to the Critics Choice

Cynthia Erivo has been nominated for tons of awards and she’s been in tons of awards seasons. But it feels like this is the first time where she’s really gotten this kind of attention, this kind of hype, and she’s been in the center of a major hit movie? What’s nice about that is Cynthia has really met the moment. I’ve said this before, but I expected Wicked’s promotion and awards season to be messy, because both Cynthia and Ariana had reputations for being a bit prickly or not very easy-going. But they’ve both surprised me so much. Cynthia has been full of grace, good humor and professionalism, as has Ariana. Anyway, Cynthia wore Armani to the Critics Choice Awards – while she didn’t win, she looked great and I loved seeing her in a sleek look like this.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande went for a completely bonkers Dior look at the CCAs. It’s wicker basket couture, y’all. It’s terrible but also really funny. I hope she had fun.

Speaking of weird structural garments – which are on-trend currently – Hannah Einbinder wore this custom Louis Vuitton. SO BAD.

Rachel Brosnahan in custom Miu Miu. Like… I did NOT know Lois Lane had all of that going on. Very sexy look.

Natasha Lyonne wore Saint Laurent. I love her, she’s so funny.

Emma Stone wore Louis Vuitton & showed off her new pixie cut at the Globes

Last year, Emma Stone shaved her head for yet another film with Yorgos Lanthimos, this one shooting in Europe. It’s called Bugonia, aka The One Where Emma Stone Shaved Her Head. Emma appeared on some red carpets last year, post-shave, and she wore wigs to hide her new look. But at the Golden Globes last night, Emma debuted the grow-out: a choppy pixie. While I’ll defend Emma for shaving her head for a film, I will never defend a pixie! NEVER. Oh well – it will grow out. At least, I hope she’s in the process of growing it out. Her dress last night was Louis Vuitton. I actually like it?

Rachel Brosnahan in this green Vivienne Westwood dress was one of my favorite looks of the night. I love a redhead in a rich shade of green – Julianne Moore has done this too and it always looks fantastic. The green pendant is lovely too.

I could take or leave Alexandra Daddario’s Vivienne Westwood look, but I’d just like to point out that Alexandra just gave birth to her first child in November. She probably wanted to wear something more covered-up, thus the feathers.

Riley Keough attended the Emmys because she was nominated for Daisy Jones and the Six. She attended with her husband (who is very cute) and her grandmother, Priscilla Presley. Priscilla and Riley’s legal issues are over, they made some kind of deal and Riley ended up giving Priscilla a settlement from Lisa Marie’s estate. I’m a little bit surprised that Riley would even go public with Priscilla at the Emmys, but I guess they really did bury the hatchet. Riley wore this Chanel dress which isn’t great, but whatever. It’s not the worst.

Camila Morrone, also from Daisy Jones, attended the Emmys as well. She wore Versace and she looked great. I said this last night on Twitter, but it’s insane that Camila got “too old” for Leo.

Emily Blunt wore a red Armani to the Critics Choice: lovely or boring?

Oppenheimer had a big night at the Critics Choice Awards, picking up Best Director and Best Drama. Interestingly enough, the critics did not give the Best Actor trophy to Cillian Murphy – instead, Paul Giamatti won for The Holdovers. It feels like something interesting is happening in the Best Actor race, and Giamatti might actually be able to pull off the “upset.” Meanwhile, Emily Blunt is still getting nominated all over the place for her work in Oppenheimer but she’s also losing everything to an actor from The Holdovers: Da’Vine Joy Randolph. We shall call this the Oppenholdovers phenomenon. Emily wore a one-sleeved Armani gown and she did attend the Critics Choice with her husband. So no divorce drama for now! This dress is okay. Not my favorite, but it’s fine.

Here’s Cillian Murphy. He is not enjoying this awards season, but I get the feeling he enjoys hanging out with other actors.

Pedro Pascal: adorable. He keeps losing to Kieran Culkin at awards shows.

Rachel Brosnahan wore Givenchy. What a weird dress? She looks good, but it’s a weird dress.

Ariana DeBose also wore Givenchy. Kind of phoned it in, which is fine. It’s just the Critics Choice.

Julianne Moore in Bottega Veneta at the Golden Globes: striking?

Last night’s Golden Globes harkened back to the old awards shows in that it was tedious, not that entertaining and mostly forgettable except for the fashion. The bright red dresses were some of my favorite looks though, starting with Julianne Moore in this sleek strapless Bottega Veneta gown. She looked so lovely and comfortable and her dress had pockets! Her hair was a bit plain, but it also didn’t compete with that gorgeous gown or her jewels. Julianne was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for May December, which went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph.

Presenter Michelle Yeoh was also in red orange Bottega Veneta, in an architecturally fabulous gown with a draped bustline. I’ve been watching The Brothers Sun on Netflix and it’s pretty entertaining. I love Brad Falchuk’s shows and this one doesn’t disappoint. Check out her orange watch I love that detail.

Danielle Brooks killed it in red Moschino. I only wish the skirt went straight down instead of flaring out like that, but I love the red wrap. Danielle was nominated for Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for The Color Purple, which went to Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.

Rachel Brosnahan was a bombshell in this off the shoulder Sergio Hudson gown with snaking buttons down the front. This fits her like a glove and is sexy without being over the top. I love the bow in her hair. Rachel was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, which went to Ayo Edebiri for The Bear. Rachel’s next project now that Mrs. Maisel has wrapped is a limited series for Amazon called Lois & Varga.

Update: I’m adding in Pedro Pascal in Bottega Veneta because I don’t want to forget him! Look at this handsome man. He injured his arm in a fall before the Globes and said “it can happen to anybody.” Pedro played along and took it well when Kieran Culkin told him to suck it when he won in their category. I bet those dweebs at the Hollywood Foreign Press didn’t even watch The Last of Us.

David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan cast as the new Superman & Lois Lane

Some people enjoy Superman, but… there’s a reason why Batman has been rebooted a million times, because Batman is more interesting and compelling for actors and audiences. Still, we are living in a world where every single superhero needs to be endlessly rebooted, so James Gunn was doing tests with various actors for weeks, all to cast Superman: Legacy. The most interesting part of the casting process was that Gunn paired up his potential Clark Kents and Lois Lanes, so they would be cast as a pair, and the auditions acted as chemistry tests too. Nicholas Hoult was paired with Emma Mackey, Tom Brittney was paired with Phoebe Dynevor, and David Corenswet was paired with Rachel Brosnahan. Corenswet and Brosnahan got the jobs!

James Gunn has found his Superman and Lois Lane. After a lengthy search, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will star in Superman: Legacy, the film that will launch DC’s new universe under writer-director Gunn and his DC Studios co-boss, Peter Safran.

Corenswet and Brosnahan were among six actors who vied for the lead roles, with Gunn filming screen tests over the June 17 weekend with Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney also in contention to play Superman/Clark Kent and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor in the running for Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane.

Few roles are as coveted — or come with as much pressure — as Superman. That’s doubly true in the current landscape, as Corenswet will anchor a new universe as DC attempts to reinvent itself after a streak of misses with October’s Black Adam, March’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods and the recent The Flash. Only three actors have played the character on the big screen, with Christopher Reeve’s career-defining work in 1978’s Superman launching the modern superhero genre and spawning three sequels. Brandon Routh starred in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns (2006), a film that failed to ignite the box office and resulted in him being a one-and-done. And a decade ago, Henry Cavill starred in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, the film that launched the DC Extended Universe and made Cavill a fan-favorite actor for his dignified work as Clark Kent.

I do feel sorry for Henry Cavill, because he loved playing Superman and he wanted to do much more with the Superman franchise. So many bad decisions all around Cavill’s time as Superman. I honestly thought he was a great Superman too, although I only watched Man of Steel, not the other ones. As for all of this… I feel sorry for Nicholas Hoult! He auditioned for The Batman too – the role went to Robert Pattinson. I don’t really know David Corenswet from anything, so it’s likely he’ll be seen as more of a “blank slate” Superman. Corenswet is American and Julliard-trained. He’s from Philly! Good, a superhero with a cheesesteak accent. I also think Rachel will be a great Lois Lane (but I loved Amy Adams in that role too).
