Amal Clooney tried to out-dazzle her sick husband at the Venice ‘Jay Kelly’ premiere

George Clooney arrived in Venice earlier this week, where he was set to promote and premiere his new film, Jay Kelly. On Thursday, George was supposed to do the press conference and some individual interviews, but he ended up pulling out of all of it because he was feeling under the weather. They’re saying it’s a sinus infection, but I kind of wonder if he was suffering from the Don’t-Ask-Me-Political-Questions virus. His ratf–king with Jake Tapper blew up in his face, and while the international media might not care or ask, the American media might. Still, George “rallied” in time to walk the red carpet with Amal. He apparently told reporters that he can’t hear anything (convenient) and he was seen clutching his sore throat at times.

Amal looked… okay. While I love this vivid violet shade, I’ve never been into Amal’s love of mullet dresses. The train was very dramatic though, and the whole ensemble photographed very well, even if it’s a dated, button-covered disaster once you look at the details. In George and Amal’s early years, I loved her hair, and she regularly got really great blowouts back in the day. But in recent years, she’s been having a lot of bad hair days. Her hair is too long and it looks damaged and in need of some good conditioning treatments. Her colorist is also doing a terrible job!

Meanwhile, I was fully prepared to hate on this movie because of George Clooney, little did I know that my nemesis Laura Dern is also in Jay Kelly! LMAO, I hope this sh-t bombs so hard. Her bangs are trash!! (Her Armani is okay-ish although it looks unfinished.)

Eve Hewson in Schiaparelli – I kind of like this, and I usually roll my eyes at Schiaparelli.

Riley Keough in Chloé – it looks like something she would wear.

And finally, Greta Gerwig (her husband/partner Noah Baumbach directed Jay Kelly). This is custom Rodarte. Not bad.

Anya Taylor-Joy Cannes Chris Hemsworth Elsa Pataky Eva Green Fashion Greta Gerwig Naomi Campbell

Anya Taylor Joy wore Dior to the Cannes ‘Furiosa’ premiere: incredible?

On Wednesday, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. It got a standing ovation and George Miller and Anya Taylor Joy were both in tears by the looks of things. Anya has been doing the most to promote this film for weeks already, but Cannes was by far the biggest red carpet for the film. Anya delivered – a pale Dior gown, alabaster skin, white-blonde hair and blood red lips. She looked otherworldly. She looked like she was created by AI. She looked like an old Hollywood movie star. What a moment. (That being said, I’m not crazy about this Dior, but the actual dress was beside the point.)

Chris Hemsworth & Elsa Pataky were also on the carpet. I bet you anything Elsa was mad as hell that Anya got so much attention.

Naomi Campbell attended the premiere in a vintage Chanel look. Just one of thousands of priceless vintage pieces in her personal archives. Naomi looked amazing.

Eva Green wore Balmain – she’s forever a goth girl, but it’s fun seeing her interact with the other women on her Cannes jury. She seems to get along well with Greta Gerwig.

Greta Gerwig wore Armani Privé – a classic dress, done well.

Here’s the kicker: this person is Iris Mittenaere and she basically wore Game of Thrones/Mother of Dragons cosplay in Cannes.

Cannes: Greta Gerwig stuns in Saint Laurent, Meryl classes it up in Dior

The Cannes Film Festival kicked off on Tuesday with its first premiere, an opening ceremony, a press conference for the Cannes jury and more. Last year’s Cannes was a snooze, almost like they were trying to be controversial in the wrong direction (a Johnny Depp premiere) and trying to mute the one thing which people enjoy about Cannes: the glamour and fashion. This year, the festival put three very fashionable women on the jury: Greta Gerwig (she’s the jury president), Lily Gladstone and Eva Green. On the first night, Meryl Streep was honored and several amazing French actresses came out (Lea Seydoux, Juliette Binoche). The festival is really trying to bring eyes back to the south of France.

So, let’s get to the fashion. On opening night, Greta wore Saint Laurent – a very smart gown in a great color. Hours beforehand, Greta’s photocall look became THE topic of conversation on Fashion Twitter – she wore a Maison Margiela dress with a corset bodice and overdrawn hips. I kind of hate that dress, but I love the Saint Laurent.

Lily Gladstone wore Gucci and Eva Green wore Armani to the opening night. I imagine both women have their pick of designer frocks for the festival, and I’m excited to see what Lily brings out. This Armani on Eva is a bit different – usually she goes for goth-glam, this seems more goth-princess.

Meryl Streep looked amazing in Dior. Seriously, what a fantastic dress for her.

Juliette Binoche also wore Dior Haute Couture – I like the dress a lot and her face card is eternal. But the wet-look hair is killing me.

My least favorite look of Day 1 was Léa Seydoux in Louis Vuitton. Blah.

Barbie Greta Gerwig Kristen Stewart Oscars

Kristen Stewart cried watching the ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance at the Oscars

In today’s edition of “Celebrities Are Just Like Us,” we have Kristen Stewart! It turns out that K-Stew is a huge fan of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Barbie. She’s such a big fan that she’s even labeled herself “obsessed” and a “super-duper fan.” I love that so much! During an interview on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, which was recorded the day after the Oscar ceremony, Kristen got even more relatable when she talked about watching “I’m Just Ken” from her couch at home. Just like most of us, she laughed and cried, thinking about the magnitude of Greta’s creation.

She loved this year’s Oscars: “Oscars were incredible last night,” said Stewart, who earned a Best Actress nomination in 2022 for Spencer. “Best they’ve been in years, I feel. Don’t you think it was just a good show?”

She got so emotional, baby: “I was, for some reason, crying and laughing while watching the Ken thing. It’s emotional, dude, watching Greta watch it. When they did the one cutaway of her and she was just, like, front-row belting and looking at the thing she helped kickstart….”

Barbie’s biggest fan?: Stewart said she’s “obsessed” with and a “super-duper fan” of Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon and more. The actress said, though, she did not have Barbie dolls growing up, instead opting for the “Weird Barbie”-type toys.

Is Marvel in her future?: Elsewhere in the podcast interview, Stewart addressed whether she would star in a Marvel superhero movie. The Twilight alum said she’s a “yes man” and wouldn’t say no, though the idea seems “unlikely” to her. “It sounds like a f—ing nightmare, actually,” Stewart said with a laugh.

Her thoughts on blockbuster superhero movies: “I like big movies because I like people to watch them when I’m in them. The system would have to change. … What ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it.”

She’d do it for Greta: “But maybe the world changes,” said Stewart, adding, “If Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it.”

[From People]

I wonder if Kristen also re-watches “I’m Just Ken” on YouTube like us normies do, haha. I don’t watch it daily anymore but since it’s right at the top of my search history, I click on it every couple of days because it really does make me smile. I watched Barbie with my kids last week, too. They asked a lot of good questions about it and now my older son sings “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?” all of the time, lol.

Anyway, It doesn’t surprise me at all that Kristen had a Weird Barbie growing up. I’d honestly be disappointed if she didn’t. I also love that she stans Greta so hard, too. Can you imagine a collaboration between the two of them? It would have to be more of an independent, artsy-type film, right? I also suspect that Greta is high on many people’s list of directors to work with now. A lot of people, myself included, are going to be watching to see what she does next.

America Ferrera Fashion Greta Gerwig Margot Robbie Oscars

Margot Robbie & America Ferrera wore Versace to the Oscars: pretty great?

At the end of the day, Barbie only won one Oscar, for Best Song. Margot Robbie wasn’t nominated in Best Actress and Greta Gerwig wasn’t nominated in Best Director. Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera lost in the supporting categories, and Robbie and Gerwig lost in the categories in which they were nominated – Adapted Screenplay and executive producer (for Margot). It felt like they were all choosing to simply celebrate the film and their achievements and they didn’t go into the show thinking that they would win anything. I’m sad about that, because Barbie really was a massive achievement.

Fashion notes: both Margot Robbie and America Ferrera wore Versace. I like that Margot passed the Barbie-pink baton to America, and Margot finally wore something which was not some big Barbie look. I like America’s dress a lot, and Margot’s dress is fine (it’s better from the waist up). Greta Gerwig has been wearing some offbeat looks throughout the awards season, so I like that she went very clean and straight-forward for the Oscars. This gown is Gucci – it’s a bit pale for her coloring, but she looks good. Her jewelry is Boucheron.

Greta Gerwig shrugs off the ‘Barbie’ Oscar snubs: ‘Of course I wanted it for Margot’

Greta Gerwig covers Time Magazine as one of their “women of the year”…in February?? Don’t get me wrong, the past twelve months have been great for Greta and given her success with Barbie, she can write her own ticket and that’s exactly what she’s doing. I just don’t get why this is happening in February! In any case, this is the first big interview Gerwig has given since she was snubbed for a Best Director Oscar nomination for Barbie. This is not a debate – she was snubbed. But she’s dealing with it well and she’s not making a big thing about it (even though she would be well within her rights to do just that). It looks like she’s already onto her next project, an adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. Some highlights from Time:

On Barbie’s success: “I remember thinking, If this works, everyone is going to think later that it was inevitable. They’ll say, ‘Well, but it was Barbie.’ But this was not guaranteed.”

She was working on Narnia before Barbie: “Knowing that I’d laid the groundwork for Narnia and wanted to return to it—that’s probably something I set up for myself psychologically. Because I know the right thing, for me anyway, is to keep making movies. Whatever happens, good or bad, you’ve got to keep going….It’s never not astonishing to me that somebody gives you money to make a movie.”

Her movies aren’t just “for women”: “I always think about the intuitive way you love a song or a movie. You love something, and you just love it. You don’t think to yourself, ‘I have to love this because it’s by a woman, for a woman.’ That’s part of it. But it’s not why you love it. You love it because it’s great.”

The uneasy relationship between women and their ambition in a patriarchal society. “I don’t know if it’s gendered. But I know I want to be able to make a body of work that feels like it’s undeniable in terms of the work itself. I don’t want there to be an asterisk next to my name. Do I have more of that than male filmmakers? I don’t know! I know plenty of deeply insecure male filmmakers who are plagued in their own ways.”

On the Oscar snubs: “Of course I wanted it for Margot. But I’m just happy we all get to be there together.” There’s also, she points out, ample accolades for the film at the Oscars. “A friend’s mom said to me, ‘I can’t believe you didn’t get nominated,’” she says, laughing. “I said, ‘But I did. I got an Oscar nomination.’ She was like, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful for you!’ I was like, ‘I know!’”

Movies are for everyone: “You don’t need specialized knowledge to watch a movie. All you need is your human experience. Everybody knows what it is to love people, and everybody knows what it is to lose people.”

[From Time]

“You don’t need specialized knowledge to watch a movie.” This is why I hope she’ll never sign on to direct a superhero movie, because you have to watch everything in a particular order to know this or that backstory. As for what she says about the Oscar snubs… she’s a positive person, an optimist, and that’s reflected here. But make no mistake, she got the message. The Hollywood power brokers have told her in no uncertain terms that while they appreciate that her “doll movie” was so successful, they don’t consider it important or real “art.” Gerwig sees the glass as half full – regardless of the snubs, she still gets to make whatever she wants now.

Andrew Scott Ayo Edebiri BAFTAs Emma Corrin Fashion Greta Gerwig Taylor Russell

Ayo Edebiri wore a custom Bottega Veneta to the BAFTAs: old Hollywood glam?

Ayo Edebiri attended the 2024 BAFTAs and she decided to go all out in an “old Hollywood” style. She wore a custom Bottega Veneta ensemble… and I feel like one thing should have been edited out? Like, don’t wear the gloves AND the feathered stole/coat. Her styling here is great though and I love her lil’ bob.

Maybe I’ve just gotten used to Emma Corrin’s offbeat style, but they look bonkers-amazing in this bespoke Miu Miu. I f–king love these turquoise tights.

Greta Gerwig in Erdem Pre-Fall 2024. Not my vibe but she looks lovely.

Taylor Russell in custom Loewe. When will we be free of Loewe?? Seriously though, she elevates this.

Bonus Andrew Scott, who looked like the hottest little devil ever. He looks so beautiful!
