Demi Moore wore a stunning Alexander McQueen to the 2025 BAFTAs

Demi Moore attended the BAFTAs on Sunday as a Best Actress nominee. She lost to Mikey Madison, in what was probably considered a surprise. Personally, I’ve thought that Mikey should be the frontrunner of the lead-actress race for months, but Demi is the one winning everything (everything except the BAFTA). Demi dressed like she thought she was going to win as well – she wore this really striking Alexander McQueen gown which is so detailed and interesting.

Lupita Nyong’o wore Chanel to the BAFTAs – this is one of the few times I’ve really loved Chanel on a red carpet. Who knew that Lupita Chanel was such a great combo?

Anna Kentrick wore an archive Georges Chakra – really sexy, and I adore the diamonds and emeralds. She really went all out.

Marisa Tomei in Sophie Couture. I saw some complaints about this and I was like WTF, she looks great. But on second look… the dress is “off” somehow? I get it. The shoulders throw everything off and the large applique at the waist weighs down the dress (and makes it look saggy). But she’s lovely.

Bonus James McAvoy, looking like a snack.

ariana grande BAFTAs Cynthia Erivo Fashion Saoirse Ronan

Who had the best Louis Vuitton look at the BAFTAs: Ariana, Saoirse or Cynthia?

Louis Vuitton dressed three prominent nominees for last night’s BAFTAs – Cynthia Erivo and Saoirse Ronan in the lead actress category, and Ariana Grande in supporting. Ronan wearing LV is not a surprise – she became an LV ambassador last year, I think? But it’s interesting that both Ari and Cynthia wore LV and yet it didn’t feel like they coordinated at all. If you ask me, LV gave their ambassador the best dress, and the house did Ari and Cynthia dirty. In any case, all three women lost in their respective categories.

Saoirse looked absolutely perfect in this dress with a matching cape/jacket/wrap. This ice-blue can be tricky on many pale women, but they got the tone just right, and Saoirse paired it with a bright lipstick so she didn’t look washed out. She just looks so elegant and regal. It helps that she’s married to certified hottie Jack Lowden too.

As for Cynthia and Ari… yeah, not their best looks of the awards season. I’m actually really mad that LV did this to Cynthia. Sure, she’s been wearing some offbeat styles, but the structured breastplate doesn’t take away from the ghastly bottom of the dress. Ari’s dress isn’t really to my taste, but I’m not mad about it. I just think it’s too much fabric for such a petite woman and the peachy pink mess doesn’t “go” with the sleek black top.

Mikey Madison wore Prada & took home the Best Actress BAFTA for ‘Anora’

The BAFTAs were held last night in London. They were obviously not attended by the BAFTA president, who is currently on vacation in Mustique. The BAFTAs shook up the race a little bit, but honestly, this has been one of the weirdest awards seasons I’ve ever seen. Two weekends ago, Sean Baker’s Anora won two major Best Picture guild awards at the PGAs and DGAs. At the BAFTAs, Conclave took home Best Film, but Anora herself won a BAFTA – Mikey Madison won Best Actress. She wore a custom Prada to the BAFTAs – she’s worn a lot of Prada throughout the awards season, with mixed-to-bad results. I found this look to be very plain, like the simplest wedding gown on offer.

In her BAFTA speech – and remember, this is the first major award Mikey has won for Anora – she acknowledged sex workers, saying in part: “I do want to just take a moment to recognize the sex worker community. I just want to say that I see you. You deserve respect and human decency. I will always be a friend and ally.” She also thanked her fellow nominees, saying she was “in awe” of them. I still think Demi Moore is the frontrunner in the Best Actress Oscar race, but Mikey’s win is definitely interesting.

More photos from the BAFTAs – Letitia Wright also wore Prada. This is lovely. She has a years-long association with Prada and it’s been sort of a mixed bag, but I love this. My one complaint is the same thing I always say about Prada: the boob darts have to go.

Felicity Jones wore a custom Armani Prive. Back in the day, I always wanted Felicity to be more of a fashion girl, but it never really came together. I think she enjoys fashion and enjoys getting dressed up for these awards shows, but she didn’t really know how to do it in her 20s. Now that she’s more mature, she understands that she can pull off these very sleek looks. She looks great, what else can I say? I love high-quality velvet on the red carpet.

Monica Barbaro continues her “a star is born” trajectory, wearing an Armani which looks like something Bob Mackie would have made for Cher. I’m saying that as a compliment, I think.

Annabelle Wallis BAFTAs Colman Domingo Fashion Fernanda Torres Isabella Rossellini Pamela Anderson Sebastian Stan Selena Gomez Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana wore Saint Laurent to pick up her supporting-actress BAFTA

Here are more photos from Sunday’s BAFTAs. The big winners included: Conclave for Best Film, Mikey Madison for Best Actress, Adrien Brody for Best Actor, Kieran Culkin for Supporting Actor (Culkin skipped because of a family emergency) and Zoe Saldana for Supporting Actress. There’s been such significant backlash to Emilia Perez over the past month, but Netflix is doing something right with how they’ve organized Saldana’s campaign. They managed to pull her out of the wreckage, and Saldana has now picked up the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics Choice awards. If she wins the SAG Award next weekend, that means this category is totally wrapped up. Zoe wore a Saint Laurent dress to the BAFTAs… eh. It’s not the worst, but it’s far from the best.

I’m still delusionally praying for Isabella Rossellini to pull off an upset in supporting actress! Isabella turned up at the BAFTAs too, and she was there to celebrate Conclave’s Best Film win. She wore a completely bonkers Dolce & Gabbana muumuu with Bulgari jewelry.

Selena Gomez wore Schiaparelli…lol, this isn’t the worst Schiaparelli I’ve seen, but I still don’t get why people are obsessed with this brand.

Pamela Anderson wore Jacquemus. Eh. It’s the styling – this is giving “Daytime Emmys” not BAFTAs.

Sebastian Stan and Annabelle Wallis walked the carpet together!! They’ve been together for like three years? She wore Vivienne Westwood. They’re an attractive couple and they mostly fly under the radar.

Fernanda Torres wore Dior – she’s been wearing a lot of Chanel to other shows, so this was notable. This was, no joke, one of my favorite dresses of the BAFTAs. So simple, so flattering.

Colman Domingo wore Versace – he’s incredible.

2025 BAFTA nominations: No Angelina, Nicole or Denzel!

I’ll just say it – this awards season is not panning out the way I thought it would, nomination-wise. I knew that Angelina Jolie would have a tough sell to be a contender for her performance in Maria, but I wasn’t expecting her to get shut out of BAFTA and SAG nominations! Same with Denzel Washington’s scenery-chewing performance in Gladiator II – I never thought that Denzel would be snubbed right and left for NOMINATIONS. Exact same situation with Nicole Kidman in Babygirl – she has now been snubbed for a SAG and BAFTA nom, just like Angelina and Denzel. WTF? The BAFTAs released their “shortlists” a few weeks ago, but they released their official nominations today. The silver linings of this year’s awards season is that Conclave and Anora are getting so much love. The big BAFTA nominations:

[From The Evening Standard]

At some point, I’m going to need some heavy-duty analysis of how Yura Borisov has managed to get all of these nominations. I’m not mad about it, I just thought it would be a much harder sell to promote his (outstanding) performance. It’s also so bizarre to me that Jamie Lee Curtis now has a SAG and BAFTA nomination for a role which wasn’t on many people’s radars. What else? A bit surprised to see the BAFTA love for The Apprentice, and I’m not surprised that the BAFTAs went out of their way to recognize British actors like Hugh Grant and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. They also think Saoirse Ronan is British, don’t they? She’s Irish. She just played a Scottish character in The Outrun. Anyway, Anora and Conclave are my girls this year, which probably means that Emilia Perez is taking it.

Ayo Edebiri BAFTAs Prince William royals

This is the face Prince William made when he met Ayo Edebiri & Phoebe Dynevor

Here are more photos of Prince William, backstage at last night’s BAFTAs. He went solo, was seated next to Cate Blanchett during the ceremony, then he was taken around to meet of the beautiful young actresses, because that wasn’t obvious at all! Remember how often, in 2023, William was being branded as a “hunk” and a “hot single dad”? It kept happening, over and over in palace-approved stories. As you can see, he spent some time last night trying to chat up Phoebe Dynevor, Ayo Edebiri, Sophie Wilde and Mia McKenna Bruce. As you can see, William was not very successful. Ayo’s face in particular betrays just how badly this went. Still, the Mail hilariously tried to tell everyone that Hot Single Dad William really won over these starlets!

Prince William won over BAFTA winners last night as he met with rising star nominees and other people who had picked up gongs at the award show. Making a dapper appearance at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Prince of Wales, who made a last-minute solo appearance while his wife Kate remains at home recovering from abdominal surgery, chatted with the nominees for the Rising Star award – plus winner Mia McKenna-Bruce.

The father-of-three, 41, shook hands with the star-struck actresses, who also included The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, Phoebe Dynevor and Sophie Wilde, before revealing he had not seen any of the films they had starred in.

Earlier in the night he apologised for confirming his attendance to the ceremony late in the day, and for also not watching many of the films – noting that, understandably, he has ‘other things’ on his mind.

However, ever the entertainer, William kept things light despite a difficult few months for the royal family and told Mia McKenna Bruce, who stars in How to Have Sex, that she looked like she had ‘a lot of fun’ making the film.

As William walked into the green room following the award ceremony, he smiled as he greeted the three young actresses.

‘It was very close between all of you,’ he told the talents, before turning to Mia to congratulate her. He then told her: ‘I haven’t yet watched your film. I think it looked like you had a lot of fun all the way through’.

After revealing he hasn’t had time to ‘get through’ many of the nominated films, William said: ‘It is a very very strong year for categories.’

[From The Daily Mail]

“The father-of-three, 41, shook hands with the star-struck actresses” – they were not star-struck, they looked disturbed by his behavior and mannerisms. These photos went viral last night (along with my tweet with the Michael Sheen photo) and it was yet another moment where non-royal-watchers were talking about William’s awkwardness, weirdness and how he always manages to fall flat whenever he’s trying to impress women. It was also funny to watch all of the behind-the-scenes videos of no one in the BAFTA auditorium clapping for him or acknowledging him at all. How embarrassing.

BAFTAs Bryce Dallas Howard Dua Lipa emily blunt Fashion Hannah Waddingham

Emily Blunt wore Elie Saab to the 2024 BAFTAs: kind of ’80s & fabulous?

Every season, I look at the Elie Saab runway photos and I always think “I hope all of these gowns show up during the awards season” and then so few of them do. Elie Saab just seems like the obvious, no-drama choice for women who don’t give a sh-t about wearing the most avant-garde looks – almost always flattering and pretty, easily customized and sparkly. Why not? Well, Emily Blunt felt that way – she wore Elie Saab couture at the BAFTAs. It’s giving Dynasty, right? The bell sleeves, the sparkles, the jewelry, the hair – like a soap star in the 1980s. I kind of adore it.

Bryce Dallas Howard in New Arrivals by İlkyaz Özel. Oof. The dress should have been longer and the shoes are wrong. She looks uncomfortable in it too.

Dua Lipa in bespoke Valentino. Arguably one of the best-dressed of the night. Dua’s style has lowkey gotten SO good in the past year.

Hannah Waddingham in Oscar de la Renta. I like this? Right amount of drama, one of the more flattering mullet dresses, and I’m fine with the shade of navy. My one quibble is that the netting on the skirt should not be that prominent.
