Colman Domingo had a meet-cute missed connection with his husband

Over the last decade there’s definitely been a style revolution — or perhaps a better word is liberation — for men on the red carpet. It was like all of a sudden they realized, “Oh, jackets come in colors, too!” As an award show viewer, it was fun to watch. And then the universe, in her wisdom, decided it was finally time to give Colman Domingo his flowers, and he left all the other men in the dust. Sartorially speaking, that is. I’m not saying other men should stop trying! Colman is simply in a class of his own. His presence anywhere brings magic (just check him out leading the Dolby Theatre in dance during an Oscars commercial break!). Colman knows the big role magic, romance, and destiny have played in his life. Nothing illustrates this better than the way Colman met his husband Raul 20 years ago:

Colman Domingo and his husband Raul have an incredible meet-cute story and it’s going viral again after their appearance at the Oscars this weekend.

The 55-year-old actor was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars this year for his work in Sing Sing, marking his second consecutive nomination after getting a nod last year for Rustin.

Colman walked the carpet with Raul and the story about how they met 20 years ago started to go viral again!

They met through Craigslist back in 2005!

“OK, you gotta picture 17 years ago, I was actually walking down the street going into a Walgreens in Berkeley, California. We passed each other. We never spoke,” Colman said during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“A few days later, I’m on Craigslist trying to buy a used computer to help with my writing. I went to the home screen and you know, they have Missed Connections, things like ads, so I would read them because I’m a romantic,” Colman continued.

“I kept thinking about this person I crossed paths with and never spoke to… I go to the second page of Missed Connections and it said, ‘Saw you outside of Walgreens, Berkeley.’ We met up two days later. I told him, ‘I think you’re about to change my life and I love you.’ And we’ve been together ever since,” Colman said.

Hot damn, Colman Domingo even makes Craigslist look good! This meet-cute is so sickeningly beautiful, I wouldn’t believe it was actually the foundation of a loving 20-year relationship, had I not been drooling over the stylish spouses at the Oscars over the weekend. Colman told this story a year ago on The Graham Norton Show, and I highly recommend watching the clip. You can really see how grateful he is, like he’s in awe that something so, well, KISMET, got to happen to him. As a bonus, Domhnall Gleeson is sitting next to Colman on the couch and his reactions, especially at the end, are just gorgeous.

OK, all this sap may truly do me in, so here’s a funny pivot: this surreal, made-possible-by-Craigslist meeting of Colman and Raul happened in 2005. In 2008, Colman joined The Big Gay Sketch Show for its second season. Anyone watch that? I think there were 27 of us dedicated viewers of the Logo show, which also had the distinction of featuring a baby Kate McKinnon. (Yes, she glowed even then.) Anyway, one of Colman’s recurring characters was him playing Maya Angelou… reading raunchy entries from Craigslist missed connections! It was superb, and I’m not the only one who still laughs remembering those skits. I tried and failed to find a good clip of it, so here’s the next best thing: Colman describing the bit to Jimmy Kimmel in 2022.

Having seen him all those years ago on a very small, niche show, it’s been a pure delight to see Colman get all this recognition now.

I just realized where I remember Colman Domingo from. He used to be on The Big Gay Sketch Show on Logo. I remember laughing for HOURS at his sketches where he played Maya Angelou reading Craigslist ads???? pic.twitter.com/mR2PFsT1tL

Oscars Hot Guys: what’s going on Andrew Garfield’s sass & rizz these days?

I don’t know what’s gotten into Andrew Garfield, but that man walks around with major BDE lately. Maybe it’s something about his 40s – he’s no longer the soft, sensitive guy who cries through interviews. He’s the heartthrob who looks like he’s DTF anywhere, any time. He’s also dating Monica Barbaro, who was nominated in the supporting category. Andrew chose a brown Gucci look for the Oscars, which I’m not crazy about but he does look good. Oh, Garfield’s biggest fans claim that he went to Turkey for a hair transplant. Was that what shifted everything for him??

.

I’m also including some of the other “hot guys” of the Oscars – I’m sure I’m forgetting people, like Cillian Murphy who only showed up at the very last minute on stage. Colman Domingo (a nominee in the lead category) came with his husband, Raul Domingo. They are too hot!! I’m also including photos of Kieran Culkin and Adrien Brody, both winners last night and unconventional hotties. Sebastian Stan is always an internet-boyfriend for many, and he explained on the red carpet that he couldn’t shave for the Oscars because he’s working right now – he also brought his mom and his girlfriend Annabelle Wallis. And Jeremy Strong, of course. He wore Loro Piana.

Annabelle Wallis BAFTAs Colman Domingo Fashion Fernanda Torres Isabella Rossellini Pamela Anderson Sebastian Stan Selena Gomez Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana wore Saint Laurent to pick up her supporting-actress BAFTA

Here are more photos from Sunday’s BAFTAs. The big winners included: Conclave for Best Film, Mikey Madison for Best Actress, Adrien Brody for Best Actor, Kieran Culkin for Supporting Actor (Culkin skipped because of a family emergency) and Zoe Saldana for Supporting Actress. There’s been such significant backlash to Emilia Perez over the past month, but Netflix is doing something right with how they’ve organized Saldana’s campaign. They managed to pull her out of the wreckage, and Saldana has now picked up the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Critics Choice awards. If she wins the SAG Award next weekend, that means this category is totally wrapped up. Zoe wore a Saint Laurent dress to the BAFTAs… eh. It’s not the worst, but it’s far from the best.

I’m still delusionally praying for Isabella Rossellini to pull off an upset in supporting actress! Isabella turned up at the BAFTAs too, and she was there to celebrate Conclave’s Best Film win. She wore a completely bonkers Dolce & Gabbana muumuu with Bulgari jewelry.

Selena Gomez wore Schiaparelli…lol, this isn’t the worst Schiaparelli I’ve seen, but I still don’t get why people are obsessed with this brand.

Pamela Anderson wore Jacquemus. Eh. It’s the styling – this is giving “Daytime Emmys” not BAFTAs.

Sebastian Stan and Annabelle Wallis walked the carpet together!! They’ve been together for like three years? She wore Vivienne Westwood. They’re an attractive couple and they mostly fly under the radar.

Fernanda Torres wore Dior – she’s been wearing a lot of Chanel to other shows, so this was notable. This was, no joke, one of my favorite dresses of the BAFTAs. So simple, so flattering.

Colman Domingo wore Versace – he’s incredible.

Kieran Culkin: Astrology ‘doesn’t matter, there’s no such thing as signs’

I’ve watched Kieran Culkin’s appearances on actors’ round-table discussions and actors-on-actors one-on-ones before this. He’s actually a “good guest” in that he always makes news and he’s popular with other actors. Personally, I loved his one-on-one with Claire Danes last year, they had so much chemistry and he listened to her intensely (it was sexy). This year, Variety paired Kieran with Colman Domingo for the Actors on Actors series. Both men are likely to be Oscar-nominated next year – Colman for Sing Sing, Kieran for A Real Pain. While the conversation was mostly funny and charming, I feel like Kieran came across as sort of disrespectful to Colman at times, talking over Colman and even sort of making fun of Colman a couple of times. They got into it early in the conversation when they talked about astrology.

Colman Domingo and Kieran Culkin had a hilarious chat about the relevance of horoscopes during their first Actors on Actors sit-down. Early in the conversation, the Emmy winners were discussing age. After Culkin revealed that he was 42, Domingo inquired about his zodiac sign (it’s Libra).

“Because it doesn’t matter; there’s no such thing as signs,” Culkin told The Madness star. “You believe in this hocus pocus stuff?”

“You just called me out for being a Sagittarius,” Domingo replied, and the Succession star said it’s a “funny word.”

“If I said ‘Aries,’ it’s just not going to hit the same,” Culkin said.

Domingo was jokingly offended by Culkin when he said “nobody likes” Sagittarians, then brought up the late Anna Nicole Smith, who was of the same star sign.

“She wasn’t,” Culkin said. “She was a person who had a birthday.”

When Culkin guessed whether Domingo reads strangers’ signs on a serious level, the Euphoria actor denied it but said that astrology is “specific when it comes to attributes.”

[From Yahoo]

While it’s all “friendly banter,” I do think Kieran takes his “fast-talking wise-ass” persona too far. He wasn’t trying to offend Colman, but jeez. Colman is right that signs are specific when it comes to attributes. While there are some aspects of astrology which are bullsh-t, there are other aspects which are very real. I’m also surprised Colman didn’t mention his Sagittarius sister, Taylor Swift. Anyway, now people are debating astrology just because Kieran and Colman were talking about their ages. There was another moment when Colman revealed his age and that he’s Black, so obviously he moisturizes.

Colman Domingo Cynthia Erivo emma stone Fashion Oscars

Emma Stone wore a pale seafoam green Louis Vuitton for her ‘surprise’ Oscar win

Once I saw Poor Things, I understood why Emma Stone was suddenly making this huge awards-season surge, and why she was getting more awards heat than Lily Gladstone. While Lily’s performance in Killers of the Flower Moon was quietly powerful, she was ill served by the script and direction, whereas Poor Things was basically a showcase for Emma Stone’s talent, and Emma made a meal out of that role. All of which to say, I had a feeling that Emma would pull it out and she did. She won her second Best Actress Oscar in seven years. What a night! Reportedly, Emma had been lovely to her fellow Best Actress nominees and she sent them gifts and talked them up in interviews, especially Lily.

There’s some debate about whether Emma actually wanted to win and whether she thought she would win. I doubt she thought she would win, but she did campaign and she’s enormously proud of Poor Things, not just as an actress, but as a producer on the film. Emma’s Oscar look was pretty simple – a pale seafoam green Louis Vuitton with an oversized peplum. Simple styling too – hair down, stud earrings, simple necklace, not a lot of drama. Considering the tragic LV looks she’s worn at other awards shows, I consider this a win across the board. Also: she walked the carpet briefly with her husband Dave McCary! They are rarely photographed together.

Other notable celebrities in Louis Vuitton at the Oscars – Colman Domingo & Cynthia Erivo. They both kind of killed it? Colman has been, hands down, the best dressed of the awards season.

Ayo Edebiri Colman Domingo Fashion Greta Lee Melissa McCarthy Reese Witherspoon SAGs

Ayo Edebiri wore Luar to the SAG Awards: super-cute or too much fabric?

Ayo Edebiri continued her wonderful awards-season run at the SAG Awards, where she picked up the actress award for The Bear, then the show won Best Ensemble. Ayo has now won an Emmy, Critics Choice, Golden Globe and SAG Award. Her life has changed dramatically in just six weeks – it’s really something. Ayo has been having a lot of fun with her awards-season fashion too, she hasn’t stuck with one designer or one particular style. I kind of think this Luar ensemble was a miss though – it’s giving droopy Amish? But whatever, she’s young and she’s experimenting.

Greta Lee is another experimenter – I’m surprised she didn’t wear another look from Loewe (she’s basically a brand ambassador now), but this is from The Row. This would look soooo much better without the gloves.

Colman Domingo is really the best-dressed man at every awards show. He wore Off-White!

Reese Witherspoon wore Elie Saab. She looks great – flattering dress, great color, good hair & makeup. Simple.

Melissa McCarthy wore Puey Quinones and she had one of the best jokes of the night, presenting with Billie Eilish. This was such a good bit!

Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood Issue is here, how did they do this year?

Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood Issue used to be so good, back in the day. Like, in the 1990s, the Hollywood Issue was the bomb. Over the course of twenty years, it’s not the bomb. Bad editorial decisions, bad choices for cover stars, and a near-constant reminder that a major magazine like Vanity Fair simply does not want to put people of color on their covers.

This year’s Hollywood Issue cover features: Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Jodie Comer, Lily Gladstone, Greta Lee, Charles Melton, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan. Many of those people had breakout years and/or got some big awards or nominations. I’m totally fine with Barry, Greta, Charles, Da’Vine, Pedro, Colman and Lily. Jenna Ortega’s breakout happened more in 2022, so they’re kind of late on that (plus it’s Beetlejuice 2 promo). Lily should have been in the first panel of the cover. Natalie Portman was good in May-December but that film was mostly shut out of the awards season. Bradley Cooper should not be included in this group, I don’t care if he scammed another Oscar nomination. Enough. And what has Jodie Comer even done in the past year? She’s a wonderful actress, no doubt, but her inclusion is random as hell!

I mean, if I was in charge, I would have kept most of these people but I would have put more of a focus on Lily, Greta, Da’Vine and probably Barry too. I don’t know. I’ll probably do some breakout stories once I read all of the cover interviews!

Presenting the 30th annual #VFHollywood Issue, our cheekiest yet, starring Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Jodie Comer, Lily Gladstone, Greta Lee, Charles Melton, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan.

Lily Gladstone has had quite the busy dance card—but the ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ star remains grounded. For #VFHollywood, she reflects on her Montana upbringing, her relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, and her love of bees.
