Adrien Brody gave the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history

It seems Adrien Brody can’t win an Oscar without also breaking a record. In 2003, Adrien became the youngest-ever man to nab Best Actor with his upset win for The Pianist when he was a wee bairn of 29. Had Timothée Chalamet won last night, he would have tied Adrien. So for now, Adrien still holds the title for youngest winner. But not one to rest on his laurels, Adrien broke an entirely new record with his second Best Actor victory: Guinness World Records confirms that Adrien’s acceptance speech for The Brutalist is the longest one in Oscars history. At a lengthy five minutes and 40 seconds, Adrien edged out the previous recorder-holder (Greer Garson in 1943) by 10 seconds. Thanks for making it official, Guinness, but I think anyone watching Sunday night could’ve verified that!

As per the Guinness World Records, Adrien Brody’s best actor acceptance speech at the 2025 Oscars is the longest in Oscars history.

Brody emerged triumphant ahead of Timothée Chalamet, Sebastian Stan, Colman Domingo and Ralph Fiennes at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood’s biggest night of the year, claiming one of the top performance prizes for his portrayal as Hungarian-Jewish architect Lászlo Tóth in The Brutalist.

He came up onstage — not before spitting out his chewing gum and throwing it to partner Georgina Chapman — and ignored the standard 45-second timer to speak for a whopping five minutes and 40 seconds. It beats the record of five minutes and 30 seconds held by Greer Garson, according to GWR, when she won for Mrs. Miniver in 1943 (though there is no existing footage of the speech in its entirety).

When the music started to cut the star off, he said: “Turn the music off! I’ve done this before. Thank you. It’s not my first rodeo, but I will be brief.” The moment may have conjured up old memories for Brody — his first Oscar win aged 29 for The Pianist in 2003 was interrupted, too. At the time, he said: “One second, please. One second. Cut it out. I got one shot at this. I didn’t say more than five names, I don’t think.”

He got payback by covering myriad topics this time around, among them antisemitism and racism: “I’m here once again, to represent the lingering traumas, and the repercussions of war and systematic oppression, and of antisemitism, and racism, and of othering and I believe that I pray for a healthier and happier, and a more inclusive world, and I believe if the past can teach us anything it’s a reminder to not let hate go unchecked.”

The actor also described acting as “a very fragile profession.” He continued: “It looks very glamorous, and certain moments it is, but the one thing I’ve gained, having the privilege to come back here is to have some perspective and no matter where you are in your career, no matter what you’ve accomplished, it can all go away, and I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still to do the work that I love.

“OK, I’ll get out of here, I love you, I appreciate you all,” he said as he wrapped up. “Let’s fight for what’s right, keep smiling, keep loving one another, let’s rebuild together. Thank you.”

When speaking to GMA after his acceptance speech, Brody explained, “It’s a pretty long movie so I had to have a little bit extra time to say what’s relevant,” he said. “It’s been a very long time between speeches.”

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

I didn’t know your allotted speech time correlated to film length? [insert sarcasm here] Look, I like Adrien Brody. I think he has a real artist’s soul. And I didn’t hate his speech (like some people did). But to borrow an artistic metaphor, the speech needed some serious sculpting. There were peaks of heartfelt, beautifully-worded moments. And then valleys of agonizing pauses! He stopped the orchestra from playing him off, with the words, “It’s not my first rodeo, but I will be brief.” And then how many silent seconds was it before he started speaking again?! The pauses just ended up diminishing the impact of the better parts of his speech. So in short (short, get it!), I give full marks to Adrien for emotion and sincerity, but his timing needs work. At his caliber, he should be able to deliver a tighter performance of an actor in an acceptance speech. And this isn’t even getting into the whole unfairness of less-famous winners being cut off, all for unnecessary dance numbers (you know who you are).

subjecting cillian murphy to the longest oscar speech in history should be a crime https://t.co/YlJTSX9Llt

Adrien Brody Andrew Garfield Colman Domingo Jeremy Strong Oscars Sebastian Stan

Oscars Hot Guys: what’s going on Andrew Garfield’s sass & rizz these days?

I don’t know what’s gotten into Andrew Garfield, but that man walks around with major BDE lately. Maybe it’s something about his 40s – he’s no longer the soft, sensitive guy who cries through interviews. He’s the heartthrob who looks like he’s DTF anywhere, any time. He’s also dating Monica Barbaro, who was nominated in the supporting category. Andrew chose a brown Gucci look for the Oscars, which I’m not crazy about but he does look good. Oh, Garfield’s biggest fans claim that he went to Turkey for a hair transplant. Was that what shifted everything for him??

.

I’m also including some of the other “hot guys” of the Oscars – I’m sure I’m forgetting people, like Cillian Murphy who only showed up at the very last minute on stage. Colman Domingo (a nominee in the lead category) came with his husband, Raul Domingo. They are too hot!! I’m also including photos of Kieran Culkin and Adrien Brody, both winners last night and unconventional hotties. Sebastian Stan is always an internet-boyfriend for many, and he explained on the red carpet that he couldn’t shave for the Oscars because he’s working right now – he also brought his mom and his girlfriend Annabelle Wallis. And Jeremy Strong, of course. He wore Loro Piana.

‘The Brutalist’ used AI to make Adrien Brody’s Hungarian more authentic-sounding

I still haven’t seen The Brutalist, but I’m looking forward to seeing it and I’ve heard excellent things about the film and the performances of the actors – Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce especially. The Brutalist is waging a pretty typical “late surge” Oscar campaign and it’s been working, and many believe that Adrien Brody and the film itself are major contenders for Best Actor and Best Picture. Before now, the only thing “hurting” The Brutalist’s Oscar chances are run time and the reports that most Oscar voters haven’t watched the whole movie (it’s 3 hours and 35 minutes long, and it has an old-school intermission). Well, there’s a new knock on The Brutalist which might actually hurt its Oscar campaign: editor Dávid Jancsó admitted that they used AI to massage Brody’s Hungarian accent in the film. Oh????

The Adrien Brody drama “The Brutalist” has received rave reviews and racked up nominations at multiple awards shows — but the film is also coming under fire for its use of artificial intelligence to fill in minor language gaps left by Brody and co-star Felicity Jones in a key part of the film. In an interview with Red Shark News published last week, editor Dávid Jancsó explained how the film’s team used A.I. and why they chose to in the first place.

The decision to use A.I. was born out of the need to supplement a small part of Brody and Jones’ Hungarian speaking skills. “I am a native Hungarian speaker and I know that it is one of the most difficult languages to learn to pronounce,” he said. Jancsó added, “It’s an extremely unique language.”

The moment in question is a roughly two-minute segment of the movie in which a letter from Brody’s character to his wife is read aloud. The letter is read in full in Hungarian, and it is understood by TheWrap that no other part of the actor’s performance was augmented with Respeecher.

“If you’re coming from the Anglo-Saxon world certain sounds can be particularly hard to grasp,” he said. “We first tried to ADR these harder elements with the actors. Then we tried to ADR them completely with other actors but that just didn’t work. So we looked for other options of how to enhance it.”

The team used Respeecher to record the actor’s voices and then add in A.I. words in Hungarian. Jancsó’s voice is also in the film. “Most of their Hungarian dialogue has a part of me talking in there. We were very careful about keeping their performances,” he explained. “It’s mainly just replacing letters here and there. You can do this in ProTools yourself, but we had so much dialogue in Hungarian that we really needed to speed up the process otherwise we’d still be in post.”

Jancsó also defended talking about A.I. in general. “It is controversial in the industry to talk about AI, but it shouldn’t be,” he said. “We should be having a very open discussion about what tools AI can provide us with. There’s nothing in the film using AI that hasn’t been done before. It just makes the process a lot faster. We use AI to create these tiny little details that we didn’t have the money or the time to shoot.”

[From The Wrap]

In general, I’m on Team We Don’t Need AI For 99.9% Of This Sh-t, but I have to admit, I find this fascinating. They used AI to enhance an actor’s Hungarian pronunciation and make it sound more realistic in one particular scene? That’s such a specific use and I can sort of understand why they would turn to whatever technology would make it easier. At least, easier than forcing Brody to learn every single nuance of Hungarian, with a very specific Hungarian accent. Now, do we think this AI admission will affect the Oscar race? Some Oscar-campaign watchers think so.

Scarlett Johansson wore Carolina Herrera to the NYC ‘Asteroid City’ premiere

Here are some photos from the New York premiere of Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City last night. I look forward to all of Wes Anderson’s films, although I rarely see them in the theater. I’ve heard critics say Asteroid City is Anderson’s “best film in the past decade,” which is completely strange because his last four films (The French Dispatch, Isle of Dogs, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom) have been absolute masterpieces. If anything, the critical acclaim Asteroid City got at Cannes makes me question if I’ll enjoy this one.

In any case, the stars of the ensemble film came out for the premiere. Scarlett Johansson (arguably the “star” of this film?) wore Carolina Herrera. Is it just me or has Scarlett’s styling been “off” for years? Like, something is always going wrong – the dress wasn’t properly tailored or her hair is a mess or her makeup sucks. At this premiere, I think the dress was wrong. The flower on the bust makes it look like she has a third boob.

Other stars…Margot Robbie wore Schiaparelli, an okay look which… I mean, it could be better, but at least it’s not another boring Chanel. Maya Hawke wore Prada – I think she’s trying to cultivate a “quirky fashionista” persona and I don’t hate that. We need more quirky fashionistas. I’m also including photos of Hope Davis, Adrien Brody and Georgina Chapman (they’re still happening), Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Rupert Friend in palazzo pants, plus Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartman.

Scarlett Johansson wore a pink Prada at the Cannes ‘Asteroid City’ premiere

Wes Anderson’s latest film, Asteroid City, will be released theatrically in mid-June. The film got its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and if you ask me, Cannes should have made this the opening night film (instead of that Johnny Depp catastrophe). Wes Anderson always has star-studded ensemble casts and this one is no different. The film stars (in no particular order) Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Steve Carrell, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Hope Davis, Maya Hawke, Edward Norton, Margot Robbie, Bryan Cranston, Rupert Friend, Hong Chau, Rita Wilson and like twenty other actors you would recognize. You can see the trailer here (it’s charming, as all of Wes Anderson’s films are).

Here are some photos from the Cannes premiere last night. Scarlett was there with her husband Colin Jost, and a very strange Prada dress. I’m aghast at her styling too – bright orange-red lipstick with this pale pink dress? Ugh. Maya Hawke also wore Prada, and if you ask me, both women’s dresses have severe darting issues. Also: Adrien Brody is still with Georgina Chapman, and she was there at the premiere.

Other notables at the premiere: Julia Garner in a vibrant emerald Gucci and Brie Larson in a feathered Chanel. I’m so disappointed in Brie’s Cannes fashion. When she was appointed to the Cannes jury, she must have just called up Chanel and asked them for whatever they had laying around. That’s what it looks like – she’s wearing the dregs which no one else wanted. Julia looks amazing.

Adrien Brody Georgina Chapman Kris Jenner Met Gala Naomi Osaka Timothée Chalamet

Naomi Osaka in custom Louis Vuitton at the Met Gala: amazing or meh?

Naomi Osaka was one of the co-chairs of the Met Gala, and she ended up wearing one of her sponsors, Louis Vuitton (she’s a brand ambassador). The ensemble was co-designed by her sister, Mari Osaka, but Naomi’s date was Cordae, her boyfriend. This surprised me! There’s been low-key gossip online that part of the reason why Osaka was out-of-sorts during the North American hardcourt tournaments was because she and Cordae had perhaps broken up. But I guess not. They didn’t coordinate looks though! As for Naomi’s look… it was a lot of styling, especially with the hair and the pink makeup smeared all over her eyes and cheeks.

Timothee Chalamet was co-chair of the gala, and he wore a shiny white Haider Ackermann suit with busted sneakers. He was cute posing with his other co-chairs though.

Adrian Brody & Georgina Chapman walked the carpet together in Cannes a few months ago and people were fine with it, so they decided to go to the Met Gala together too. They really seem like an odd couple, and yet they make a lot of sense? It’s weird.

Georgina Chapman finalized her divorce, got full custody, two homes & a lot more

Cannes Film Festival 2021 -

Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence for rape in the state of New York. The state of New York is going to extradite him to California at some point so he can stand trial for eleven counts of sexual assault. My point? He’s a 69 year old man in poor health and he’s going to die in prison. That won’t change the pain and trauma he caused so many women, but it is something. While he sat there in prison, his lawyers had to work out his divorce from Georgina Chapman. I’m sure there are legal reasons (like Harvey’s victims suing his estate) why there was apparently some kind of fight about money and property, but Georgina walked away with some big assets and full custody of their children.

Georgina Chapman has officially finalized her divorce from Harvey Weinstein, The Post has learned. The couple’s contested divorce in Manhattan Supreme Court was finalized this week and online court records show the case is now listed as “disposed” after a final, sealed motion was filed Monday, according to records and sources.

Weinstein, 69, and Chapman, 45, share two children — India, 10, and Dashiell, 8 — and married in 2007 after meeting each other at a party. The former pair reached a divorce settlement in January 2018 that required the fallen Hollywood titan to pay his ex between $15 million to $20 million and give up custody of his kids, a source previously confirmed. The ex’s prenuptial agreement stated Weinstein must pay Chapman $300,000 in spousal support for each year of marriage and after a decade, the figure jumps to $400,000. The settlement came just as the couple was reaching their ten-year anniversary.

Chapman also secured a slice of the marital assets, like their $15 million West Village townhouse and $12 million Hamptons beach house, and other payments, sources previously said.

[From Page Six]

I wonder if Chapman had not filed for divorce, all of those assets would have been hers as his wife anyway? Like, unless he explicitly kept her out of all of their finances during their marriage, she would have already “owned” that real estate and all of investments, etc. But, again, she would see all of their fortune looted by all of Weinstein’s crushing legal fees and such. Chapman really got out while the getting was good. She walked away with a sizable settlement, her business (Marchesa) free and clear, two pieces of prime real estate and full custody of their children, all while her ex rots in prison.

Georgina joined her boyfriend Adrien Brody in Cannes this week. Considering Cannes was one of Weinstein’s favorite hunting grounds, there’s an ick factor to these photos.
