Anne Hathaway Madonna Met Gala Nicole Kidman Shakira

Anne Hathaway wore a great Carolina Herrera ensemble to the Met Gala

I would have loved to see Anne Hathaway in a very sharp suit with fabulous brooches, but we got this instead – Anne in Carolina Herrera, with Bulgari jewels and a high ponytail. I actually like this look a lot – she looks amazing and timeless. But yeah, it didn’t have much to do with the theme.

Madonna in Tom Ford. Call me crazy, but she nailed this, right? Totally Cab Calloway.

And here’s Nicole Kidman – I was very surprised to see her out this year, but she seemed to be enjoying herself and she seemed to think her Balenciaga fit with the theme (it did not, but it’s fine). The most interesting part is that she’s seemingly chopped off her weave and she now has a “skaterboi” haircut.

And finally, Shakira had no idea what she was doing in this Prabal Gurung. She just thought “Met Gala = big gown.”

AI instagram Madonna photos Pope Francis

Madonna posted AI photos of herself with the Pope and people are mad

Life is a mystery. Everyone must stand alone. Unless you use AI to generate photos of yourself standing next to the Pope. Standing very close next to the Pope. Which is what Madonna did on Friday night, posting two images to her Instagram where she and Pope Francis are embracing, with the odd captions, “Going into the weekend like…” for one, and “Feels good go be seen…” for the other. But just like a dream, these pics are not what they seem. In both “photos,” Miss Madge is scantily-clad in lacey black while Francis complements her in papal white. While Madame X dressing provocatively isn’t anything new, her unsuspectingly dragging the head of the Catholic Church into a couple of intimate-looking poses has plenty of people upset. Let the choir sing:

The first photo depicted the pope, 87, hugging the “Frozen” singer, 66, from the side with a huge smile across his face. His nose was pressed against her cheek.

“Going into the weekend like…” she captioned the head-turning snap.

The second image showed Madonna in a lacy corset with Pope Francis seemingly going in for a kiss as he wrapped one arm around her waist.

“Feels Good to Be Seen……” the “Like a Virgin” singer penned atop the second snap.

Social media users were quick to slam Madonna over the images, with one calling her actions “ridiculously disrespectful.”

Another person wrote via X that the “Vogue” singer’s post was “creepy,” while a third unamused individual said, “This is just weird as hell… she’s lost it.”

“Disgusting! I pray her soul gets saved!” another critic seemingly shouted from behind their screen.

Page Six reached out to Madonna’s reps for comment on the backlash but did not immediately hear back.

The seven-time Grammy winner is no stranger to stirring up controversy, however, as she had done so several times throughout her career.

The Vatican once suggested that people boycott Madonna’s Blond Ambition World Tour due to her 1989 “Like a Prayer” music video, per Entertainment Tonight.

The controversial video featured her kissing a black saint who was wrongly accused of murder and several religious symbols, such as burning crosses.

Her commercial with Pepsi was even pulled at the time, though Madonna was given permission to share it in September 2023.

“Artists are here to disturb the peace,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram Reel at the time, as she debuted the commercial after it sat in the dark for 34 years.

Earlier this year, Madonna was sued by a fan who attended her “Celebration” tour and accused her of exposing fans to “pornography without warning.”

Her shows surely had some punch to them — as her backup dancers were routinely filmed giving raunchy lap dances on stage.

[From Page Six]

Ah yes, I remember that lawsuit from the California concertgoer who was “forced to watch topless women on stage.” In that instance I was leaning on Madonna’s side — Celebration was her 12th concert tour, I think it was fairly predictable that Madonna would have racy material, girl. But the difference with a concert is that an audience member chooses to purchase a ticket. The Vatican may correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Pope Francis sanctified Madonna using him as an AI prop. There is so much that doesn’t make sense to me in regard to these images. What do the captions mean? She’s going into the weekend with the Pope, and he’s the only one who really sees her? Why is he seemingly canoodling with her, going off of the body language? But I think my biggest question of all is, Madge had to have known that the photos would quickly be identified as AI-generated. So… why?? What is she trying to say here? This isn’t my religion, so I’m not offended on those grounds; I’m offended by a celebrity with Madonna’s following making such a desperate attention grab. Heaven help her.

Note by CB: It looks like these photos were created by an AI/Photoshop artist named Rick Dick and that Madonna, or her social media person, just reposted them in her Instagram stories.

Apologies aubrey plaza Madonna Patti LuPone

Patti LuPone would rather eat a ‘death wing’ than apologize to Madonna

Seven years ago, while appearing on Watch What Happens Live, three-time Tony award winner (and national treasure) Patti LuPone called Madonna “a movie killer” who “cannot act her way out of a paper bag.” Good times. The backstory between the ladies was that Patti originated the role of Eva Perón on Broadway in Evita, while Madonna was cast in the part for the movie adaptation. So why are we rehashing seven-year-old news? Because our candid Ms. LuPone was just on Hot Ones Versus with former roomie and Agatha All Along costar Aubrey Plaza (the show premieres September 18 on Disney ). The two squared off in a battle of truth-or-eat-the-hot-wing, and one of the challenges Aubrey laid down was for Patti to apologize to Madonna on camera… or eat a “death wing.” I swear, Patti dove in for that death wing before Aubrey even finished her sentence.

Patti LuPone is taking the Madonna lyric “please don’t say you’re sorry” to heart.

The Broadway icon joined Aubrey Plaza on a recent episode of Hot Ones Versus, where she refused to apologize for incendiary comments she once leveled at the pop star. Plaza directed LuPone to “look into the camera and apologize to the pop icon” for calling her a “movie killer” who “can’t act her way out of a paper bag” on Watch What Happens Live, or else eat a “death wing” — the show’s spiciest offering.

Want to guess what the legendary diva chose to do? Eat the wing down to the bone in a matter of seconds, stare straight into the camera, and then throw the wing at it.

“I’ve seen her on stage and I saw her in a movie and I went, ‘Um, okay,’” the actress and singer told Plaza. “There’s just some things some people can’t do, and you just gotta admit you can’t do it, that’s all. Or don’t even try it! Everybody can’t do everything.”

That seemed to be the end of LuPone’s feelings on the matter, but actually, she had one more right hook waiting. “Like Kim f—ing Kardashian. Can we go there? Or shall I eat another wing?” This isn’t the first time LuPone has critiqued Kardashian’s acting abilities.

Madonna and LuPone both have their fair share of beefs (Sandra Bernhard recently spoke about how “sad” she is that Madonna abruptly ended their friendship 30 years ago; LuPone also recently spoke about her regrets over her own 30-year feud with Andrew Lloyd Webber). But in this case, the beef in question appears to be entirely one-sided, in LuPone’s direction.

The American Horror Story star first fired shots at Madonna when prompted by a viewer question on a 2017 episode of WWHL. She said she hadn’t spoken to the singer after she took on the role of Perón in the 1996 film adaptation. “The only thing that Madonna has ever said to me was ‘I’m taller than you,’” she recalled.

When host Andy Cohen pressed on to ask what LuPone thought of Madonna’s Evita, she held nothing back. “I was on the treadmill when MTV used to have videos, and I saw, I believe it was ‘Buenos Aires’, and I thought it was a piece of sh–,” she said. “Madonna is a movie killer. She’s dead behind the eyes. She cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be in films or on stage. She’s a wonderful, you know, performer for what she does,” LuPone conceded, “but she is not an actress.”

[From Yahoo! Entertainment]

If you have to ask who won the hot wing battle, then you don’t know Patti LuPone. Granted, Aubrey Plaza entered the fray already compromised with “an open wound” in her mouth. But still, Patti barely seemed phased by the heat. Her matte bright red lipstick didn’t even smudge! Hilariously, the only thing that seemed to get to Patti was Aubrey turning to use a spit bucket for what she couldn’t handle. That she could not stand! So yeah, nobody f–ks with Patti LuPone. Not rude theater-goers, and not deathly hot wings. The one bone I’ll throw to Madonna is that she did not manage to kill A League of Their Own; that movie is too good to be tanked by supporting role stunt-casting. But that film notwithstanding, I look forward to the inevitable drag queen impression of Patti LuPone saying, “There’s just some things some people can’t do, and you just gotta admit you can’t do it, that’s all,” with extra points for having Madonna’s and Kim K’s images emblazoned on the costume.

Hugh Jackman Madonna Movies Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman had to visit Madonna to license ‘Like a Prayer’

Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters this Friday. For the last few months, we’ve been treated to some delightful interviews with its stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. I was somewhat meh on another Deadpool movie until the trailer came out in April. It made the movie look really fun. At the time, I mentioned that the use of Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” fit perfectly in the trailer. Well, it turns out that awesome addition to the trailer required some extra effort to make happen. In an interview with Andy Cohen on Friday, Reynolds, Jackman, and director Shawn Levy revealed that in order to license the song, they had to visit Madge herself to ask for permission in person. I hope she didn’t keep them waiting.

“It did involve a personal visit to Madonna, where we showed Madonna the sequence where ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used,” Levy, 55, explained.

“Also, let’s preface it with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, particularly that song,” Reynolds, 47, added.

“It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it,” the Deadpool actor continued. “We went over and met with her and and sort of showed her how it was being used, and where, and why.”

Levy added that it felt like the production team was “meeting royalty,” before Reynolds jokingly said that he asked one of the members of Madonna’s team how to address her when meeting her.

“Like am I allowed to just say, ‘Madonna?’ ” he recalled. “Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan.’ ”

Reynolds also said that not only did Madonna agree to let them use the track (and it helped that her son was a fan of the first two Deadpool films), she also offered them notes on the scene where it would be used.

“She gave a great note,” Reynolds said. “She watched it, and I’m not kidding, [she said], ‘You need to do this.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t like spot on.”

“We literally went into a new recording session within 48 hours to do this note. … It made the sequence better,” Levy added.

[From People]

To be fair to Ryan, I probably would have no idea how to address Madonna in a business meeting either. (Though I think overall, I’d be more intimidated by Mariah Carey, lol.) I wonder if they’re going to use the movie for a fight sequence in the film itself. It would totally fit! It’s kinda cool that she gave them notes that they felt improved the trailer. I’m kinda curious as to what that change was! Also, I didn’t realize that she doesn’t license out “Like a Prayer” without special permission. This reminds me of how it was a big deal when Led Zeppelin gave permission for “Immigrant Song” to be in the trailer for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I believe R.E.M. is also pretty strict with songs they license out too. I get it, though. You don’t want your music to be misused or used by a campaign or group that doesn’t reflect your values. Remember when Neil Young sent a cease and desist to the Trump campaign for using “Rockin’ in the Free World?” I can only imagine what nefarious means people would use “Like A Prayer” for. I’m glad she gave Ryan and Hugh permission. It’s a fun trailer and I can’t wait to see if it’s also used in the movie.

Concerts Lawsuits Madonna

One lawsuit against Madonna dismissed, her lawyers say there was no settlement

Madonna has been sued three times for starting three different concerts on her Celebration Tour two or more hours late. The first of this trifecta of lawsuits was filed by two fans who had attended her Brooklyn show in December. Madonna’s team issued a broad statement that that particular show was derailed due to technical reasons, which I took to mean the fact that it is technically impossible for Madonna to start a show on time. Nobody’s perfect, but most people aren’t charging an arm and a leg for the privilege of seeing a beautiful stranger perform, either. Just a few days ago we had an update that Madonna’s lawyers were crying “harassment!” over the plaintiffs’ lawyers saying they had reached a settlement. They had not. And they still have not reached a settlement, which Madonna’s lawyers emphasized when news broke that the case has officially been dismissed by the plaintiffs with prejudice, which means they can never ever bring the suit again. I did not see this one coming.

The lawsuit against Madonna pertaining to the late start time of her Celebration World Tour has been dismissed without settlement.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Wednesday, June 19, the lawsuit, which was filed by plaintiffs Michael Fellows and Jason Alvarez against the singer, sent a notice of a “voluntary dismissal with prejudice.”

The Grammy winner, 65, was sued on January 17 over a delayed start time during the December 13 show of her Celebration World Tour in Brooklyn. The plaintiffs accused her of “false advertising” and filed the suit.

Due to their recent dismissal with prejudice, Fellows and Alvarez cannot re-file their claims. The singer and Live Nation’s attorney, Jeff Warshafsky, wrote a letter on June 19, noting that the dismissal “was not the result of any settlement” between the parties.

The letter stated that Madonna and Live Nation “do not agree with plaintiffs’ position that each party should bear its own fees and costs.”

“Defendants believe that this action was a frivolous strike suit designed to force them to incur legal expenses,” read Warshafsky’s letter. “Plaintiffs have now abandoned this lawsuit when it became clear that this approach would not result in a settlement payment and that they would need to oppose defendants’ motion to dismiss the Amended Complaint.”

Additionally, Warshafsky noted that the “defendants reserve the right to move for sanctions, attorneys’ fees, and costs” due to the plaintiffs’ false “Notice of Settlement” that the Court struck on June 10.

The plaintiffs claim that the popstar’s Dec. 13 concert started at 10:30 p.m., despite the tickets advertising that it would start at 8:30 p.m. The two fans accused the delay of being a “wanton exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.”

The original filing stated that the two fans “would not have paid for tickets” had they known about the start time. The filing also noted that the plaintiffs argued that concert attendees were “confronted with limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs at that late hour” when they left the venue after 1 a.m.

[From People]

I am gobsmacked by this development! So it’s lose-lose for the plaintiffs — no settlement and no adjudication of the case. What happened behind the scenes? Because the fact that Madonna started more than two hours late is undisputed. Since her lawyers are calling it a “frivolous” suit, I’m wondering if the language from the original filing came back to bite the plaintiffs, the parts about their having to be up and at work the next morning. This tactic never seemed like a good strategy to me; they were saying too much that the defense could use against them — which it seems they did — when the facts alone were strong enough. So again I ask: what happened behind the scenes, here? Also, it seems especially pernicious that Madonna and Live Nation’s lawyers are talking about going after the plaintiffs to pay her legal fees. Come on, I know Madge is an unapologetic bitch, but the Material Girl just made $225 million from this tour alone, and Live Nation is the touring world’s biggest monopoly. Don’t make two poor fans who have to get up for work in the morning foot the bill for everyone’s fees!

There’s at least one more chance for the justice system to get it right, as two lawsuits still stand: one for a Washington, DC concert that Madonna began by saying “I am sorry I am late… no, I am not sorry, it’s who I am… I’m always late,” and one in California where the plaintiff added charges related to the AC being off (Madonna’s preference), leaving the packed arena to steadily roast while waiting hours for the show to start. If these cases also get dismissed, I fear the only repercussion that will get through to Miss Madge is if her ticket-buying fans show her the power of good-bye.

Madonna’s lawyers ‘will not be harassed into settlement’ for concert lawsuit

Madonna has been on holiday since closing her Celebration Tour with a rapturous, free beachside concert in Rio that was attended by 1.6 million people. It remains fascinating to me that she actually started the Rio show, which again was free, within an hour of the scheduled start time. 50 minutes late is basically early in Madonna math. But though the tour is over, the lawsuits are still chugging along. Madonna has been sued by fans for starting the show egregiously late (2-3 hours) not once, not twice, but thrice. The first suit was filed in January in relation to a Brooklyn tour stop last December, and apparently the lawyers from both parties have been engaging in a little tête-à-tête recently. Per Billboard:

Over the weekend, the dueling teams of lawyers engaged in a bizarre back and forth. On Friday (June 7), attorneys for the accusers told the judge that the two sides had “reached a settlement” that would end the case. But first thing on Monday morning (June 10), Madonna’s legal team emphatically denied that any such deal had been reached: “The parties have not settled this matter.”

“To be clear, defendants are not necessarily opposed to settlement if certain terms can be reached,” wrote Jeff Warshafsky, a partner at the firm Proskauer who reps Madonna and Live Nation. “But defendants will not be harassed into settlement and cannot abide false statements made to the court.”

In the filing, Madonna’s lawyer said the two sides had “discussed the possibility of settlement” but that they had “made no settlement offer” and “we do not know what plaintiffs believe they are accomplishing or trying to accomplish with the false notice.”

“The false notice is part and parcel of the harassment campaign that plaintiffs’ counsel has been waging against defendants over the last several months in hopes of extorting a lucrative settlement by forcing defendants to incur unnecessary legal fees,” Warshafsky wrote. “Whatever plaintiffs’ motive … defendants believe plaintiffs’ complaint is completely without merit and intend to fully defend themselves.”

An attorney for Madonna’s accusers did not immediately return a request for comment.

Madonna and Live Nation were first sued in January over the Brooklyn shows — a case that made headlines because it claimed the fans “had to get up early to go to work” the next day. She was later hit with a similar case in Washington, D.C. that claimed fans had waited in an “uncomfortably hot” arena and that she had lip-synched portions of the show. A third case, filed last month, echoed those claims but also alleged that Madonna’s show had been unexpectedly “pornographic.”

All three cases have been filed as class actions, seeking to represent potentially thousands of other fans who also faced the alleged delays. By starting the concerts later than expected, the cases claim Madonna and Live Nation breached their contracts with fans and violated state consumer protection laws.

Madonna’s attorneys have strongly rejected those accusations. In a request to dismiss the New York case earlier this year, her lawyers argued that simply needing to wake up early was not the kind of “cognizable injury” that can form the basis for a lawsuit. And they say that anyone buying a concert ticket is well aware that a show likely won’t start at the exact time printed on the ticket.

“No reasonable concertgoer — and certainly no Madonna fan — would expect the headline act at a major arena concert to take the stage at the ticketed event time,” her legal team wrote in April.

A version of that motion to dismiss the case remains pending. With no settlement reached, a response from Madonna’s accusers is due on July 1.

[From Billboard]

Plaintiffs’ attorney: “We believe we have reached a settlement.” Madonna’s attorney: “This is harassment!!!!” That’s the gist of it, right? From the time the first case was filed, Madonna’s lawyers have tended towards the hyperbolic. The initial rebuttal was that they’d be defending her “vigorously!” … and then what is the defense? “No reasonable concertgoer — and certainly no Madonna fan — would expect the headline act at a major arena concert to take the stage at the ticketed event time.” Bitch, she’s Madonna, she doesn’t have to justify her lateness! True Madonna fans know this! With all due respect, Mr. Warshafsky, even Elle Woods would come up with a more substantial argument than that.

So by my calculations, the “celebration” in the tour remains to be, at least from the audience’s perspective, the fact that Madonna took the stage at all, and that they survived the inhumane roasting in the un-air conditioned, densely packed arena. Madonna — pushing her fans over the borderline… of patience.

Madonna sued by another concertgoer who cited ‘flippant disrespect for her fans’

Earlier this year Madonna was slapped with two lawsuits from concertgoers in New York and Washington DC, respectively, over shows on her Celebration Tour starting more than two hours late. Now West Coast fans are entering the legal fray, with plaintiff Justen Lipeles filing a class action lawsuit for himself and “all individuals in California who were deceived and lulled into purchasing expensive tickets for Madonna’s concert!” Ok, I added the exclamation point, but this CA case is really upping the ante. Not only are Lipeles & Co. suing over another late start, but they’re alleging Madonna roasted them by refusing to put the AC on, and exposed them to lewd and lascivious imagery on stage. Plus she lip-synced!! They cited all of these misdeeds as Madge’s “flippant disrespect for her fans.”

The charges: The plaintiff, Justen Lipeles, filed a class action lawsuit on his behalf and that of all individuals in California who were deceived and lulled into purchasing expensive tickets for Madonna’s concert. He slammed the music icon, her promoter Live Nation, and other organizations involved in her Celebration Tour for six crimes — breach of written contract, negligent misrepresentation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false advertising, negligence/negligent infliction of emotional distress, and unfair competition.

Hot & bothered: Lipeles claimed the defendants, specifically Madonna and Live Nation, “purposely and deceptively withheld informing ticket purchasers” about crucial issues while promoting her Celebration Tour. Because of this lack of information, he arrived at Kia Forum early on March 7, 2024, expecting the concert to start at 8:30 pm, as promised. Instead, the show started after 10:00pm, and things worsened inside the venue because Madonna allegedly demanded the air conditioning be turned off. Lipeles noted he and other fans were profusely sweating and eventually became physically ill due to the heat. According to the lawsuit, the heat became unbearable to the point where fans voiced their complaints about the uncomfortable atmosphere. However, Madonna cold-heartedly dismissed their discomfort and allegedly told them to take their clothes off.

Lip-synching & topless dancers & flippant disrespect, oh my! Lipeles noted that their fans’ woes didn’t end there, as the money they had spent to see Madonna perform live was wasted on her “apparent” lip-synching. Then, they were “forced to watch topless women on stage simulating sex acts. … Forcing consumers to wait hours in hot, uncomfortable arenas and subjecting them to pornography without warning is demonstrative of Madonna’s flippant disrespect for her fans,” Lipeles argued, noting that it felt like he was watching a pornographic film being made.

Warning – the concert you are purchasing a ticket for may not begin on time: Lipeles argued that Madonna and her tour promoters were aware of her habits; therefore, they should have informed fans about her possibly starting a concert late. He claimed they did so in 2019 at her Madame X Tour, where they gave consumers reasonable notice of a later start time.

Lipeles wants damages for himself and other ‘aggrieved’ fans: He stressed that they deserved compensatory damages for breach of written contract since the concert didn’t start at the agreed-upon time. Lipeles’ demands also included pre- and post-judgment interests, costs of the lawsuit, and reasonable attorney fees. The plaintiff asked for injunctive relief ordering the defendants’ “unfair business acts and practices” to cease and restitution in the amount he and other fans paid for tickets plus the disgorgement of the profits Madonna’s corner made from those transactions.

[From The Blast via Yahoo! Entertainment]

No AC at a densely-populated event?! That has to be a violation of some government code, surely, if not a crime against humanity. That’s a serious health risk for the audience (it’s been less than a year since a fan died at an overheated Taylor Swift concert), but also think of all her dancers working they’re patooties off. No wonder they’re topless! Madonna has everyone literally burning up for her! Just imagine how long the disclaimer is gonna be if this plaintiff is successful in forcing promoters to issue a warning to fans: “Please be advised, in purchasing a ticket to this performance you are acknowledging and consenting to a long, unpredictable wait time for the show to commence, uncomfortably verging on unhealthily hot conditions throughout, and being both exposed to and encouraged to take part in nudity. Music makes the people come together.”
