Cristin Milioti finally won an Emmy last night for ‘The Penguin’

One of the highlights of the Emmys was Cristin Milioti’s win for outstanding lead actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for The Penguin. I was surprised at how genuinely effusive she was during her acceptance speech, just because I associate her with her stoic character Sofia Falcone in The Penguin. The whole room was also elated for her, and she’s been getting awards buzz for that role for ages. It’s kind of unknown whether there will be a second season of The Penguin, although the showrunner seems open to it.

Cristin was so pretty in a scarlet Danielle Frankel gown with a structured top. I love this trend of straight severe necklines, it looks so cool. I really like the delicately gathered asymmetric bodice and the slight train. These are subtle, thoughtful details.

Meghann Fahy was also nominated in this category, for Sirens. She was lovely in a black velvet Valentino with shoulder pads and a deep bustline. This is drama and she looks gorgeous. She’s giving vintage Michelle Pfeiffer.

Rashida Jones was also nominated in this category, for Black Mirror. That’s such a good series but every episode I’ve seen apart from San Junipero has traumatized me somewhat and I love horror. It just hits too close to home. Rashida was in custom Dior styled by Brad Goreski. This dress looks better in motion.

Simona Tabasco wore a colorful Marni to the Emmys: fun & cute?

Behold, the women of The White Lotus’s Season 2. For my money, Season 2 was so much better than Season 1! I loved almost all of the actors in the second season, especially the two Italian hookers/con artists/party girls, played by Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Grannò. They were so much fun! Simona even got an Emmy nomination for her role! She decided to go all out and wear this Marni dress straight from the runway. Beatrice wore Armani – a more traditional Emmy look. Simona and Beatrice just seem like they’re having so much fun with their newfound fame!

Meghann Fahy wore this “sweet” Armani – it looks like something Margot Robbie would wear. It’s pretty, but it reminds me of a bridesmaid’s dress.

Aubrey Plaza wore Loewe – I know I’m not stylish enough to “understand” Loewe, but jeez, this is such a weird look.

Jennifer Coolidge wore Etro and she won an Emmy for her role in The White Lotus. I actually kind of like this? It suits her.

Jenna Ortega wore Versace to the SAGs: goth princess in a high-fashion trash bag?

Jenna Ortega wore Versace to last night’s SAG Awards. Did it look like she was wearing a trash bag? Kind of. But I like it – it’s high-fashion goth, which is her brand. Considering the wild success of Wednesday, Jenna will probably have to stick with “goth princess” for a while. Anyway, I love this.

Cate Blanchett also wore Versace. This was a reworking of an older Versace gown she wore years ago. Cate is very into sustainable fashion, and during the Tar promotion and awards season, she’s been rewearing old pieces or having old gowns reworked. It’s been pretty amazing, and I like this for the most part. It was also nice to see Cate lose a big award to Michelle Yeoh. Maybe the Oscar race is more unstable than we thought.

Cara Delevigne in Carolina Herrera. People were falling all over themselves to praise this look and Cara’s more subdued vibe. Sure. She kept it together for a red carpet and that’s about it.

Haley Lu Richardson in Carolina Herrera. It’s a surprisingly good look for her? She spent most of White Lotus dressed like a ‘90s reject, so it’s nice to see her make an effort and wear a real gown.

Meghann Fahy in Ralph Lauren. She’s so beautiful and she has the lean, lanky proportions of a model. This veers on “too simple,” but she looks elegant and lovely.
