Halle Berry in a mirrored Siriano at the Oscars: incredible workmanship and design

Presenter Halle Berry was such a standout on the red carpet in this intricately designed and fabulously executed Christian Siriano gown featuring thousands of mirrored pieces. I love the sequin mesh sides and the little train. I was just blown away by this gown. Christian Siriano was part of the E! fashion panel and he said it was a career goal to dress Halle for the Oscars. You could tell how proud he was of this look and he should be, it was phenomenal. The only thing I’ll say against it is that it flashed on camera and reflected the light in a way I found distracting when she was on stage. I don’t know how they could have avoided that. I would watch a two hour documentary on this dress. Her styling is also perfection.

I would have loved to have seen Van Hunt on the red carpet with her but he doesn’t need to go to everything and I imagine that these ceremonies can be a drag for plus ones. Sometimes I think about Don Cheadle saying that he feels restrained at the Oscars because he can’t talk smack about people when the cameras catch every moment. That’s so relatable to me apart from getting to go to the Oscars.

Presenter and EGOT Whoopi Goldberg wore a “custom Siriano liquid water” off the runway gown. I like how bold this is, the color and reflective properties of the fabric are such and standout. As a Gen X woman I love seeing Whoopi. She was a staple of my teen years. Whoopi brought her daughter, Alex Martin, as her date.

Performer Queen Latifah was also in Siriano, in a lovely crimson gown with puffy shoulders. Queen Latifah did the Quincy Jones tribute last night and I like that they opened with Ease on Down The Road from The Wiz! That was the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. I was five and I had skipped school that day, but my mom still let me go to the movies.

Speaking of the performances, we had a whole ass tribute to James Bond for some reason. I’m thinking Amazon paid for that. My favorite performance was Raye doing Skyfall at the end. She was adorable in her red carpet interview and I will be watching her career. Raye wore Vivienne Westwood and she looked like a bombshell.

Doja Cat was very on brand in leopard print retro Balmain. This was kind of cool looking and we’ve seen so much worse from her. I kind of loved her performance outfit with the dripping sequins even though it was quite on the nose for “Diamonds are Forever.”

Lisa of Blackpink was in a custom Mark Gong tuxedo dress on the red carpet. This is one of the most unique looking tuxedo gowns I’ve seen and I see the craftsmanship and thought that went into it. The designer describes it on Instagram as “a long tailored coat with a long pleated white shirt and velvet bow tie.” He calls it “strong, confident but mysterious” and says “it was joyful and exciting to create this look.” It definitely shows! I love how the buttons for the shirt continue down the skirt and how everything layers delicately.

Paranormal The View Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg: ‘If ghosts don’t want you in a house, they’ll let you know’

Embed from Getty Images

Whoopi Goldberg is talking about the paranormal again. When we last heard Whoopi speak on the subject, she was interviewing Kumail Nanjiani about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Kumail’s belief in aliens came up, which prompted Whoopi to declare that not only does she also believe in them, she knew for a fact that aliens are already here, “watching us.”

This time, Whoopi is talking about one of my favorite parts of the paranormal: ghosts! During Monday’s episode of The View, the co-hosts were talking about the sad story of a man who bought a house at a $100,000 discount because it was the site of a horrible crime. He lived there without issues for years. However, the man’s wife ended up leaving him because he hid that terrible tidbit from her prior to proposing and having her move in. According to Whoopi, that’s no big deal because most people have lived in homes where people have previously died. In fact, you shouldn’t worry about living with a ghost at all because if they don’t want you there they’ll be sure to tell you immediately!

The 68-year-old EGOT icon introduced a grim Hot Topic on the latest episode of the ABC talk show, involving a man who bought a house discounted by $100,000 because it was the site of a murder-suicide, but whose wife eventually left him because he didn’t disclose that information to her before she moved in with him.

“Most places most of us have lived have had people die in them. It’s just the nature of life,” Goldberg said, to which panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin replied, “Peacefully is a little different for me. Quietly in the night, I can deal with.”

Cohost Sara Haines then proposed the idea of hosting a podcast with Goldberg inside the murder house, asking the actress to reprise her Academy Award-winning Ghost role as medium Oda Mae Brown in the process.

“Will you visit? Come on, we can do this together, Whoopi,” Haines said before embracing her colleague.

Goldberg attempted to shut down the anxieties over the thought of living in a haunted house, reassuring the cohosts that, if they were living in a spiritually infested abode, the ghosts inside likely wouldn’t waste time tormenting them.

“Five years went by, the husband had no issue, he forgot to say to her, ‘Darling, I asked you to marry me, but you’ll be living here in the murder house with me. Nothing in the five years bugged her,” Goldberg said. “If stuff was going to come up and get her, she’d have been gotten by now. Ghosts don’t tend to wait. If they don’t want you in the house, they will put you out by hook or by crook.”

[From Entertainment Weekly]

OMG, I would absolutely check out a ghost podcast hosted by Whoopi. It would be such batsh-t crazy entertainment. I don’t know how she “knows” all of this stuff, but I’d be right there on the journey to find out. It makes sense, though. I’ve seen Beetlejuice. I know if a ghost wants you out of their house, they’ll tell you. I appreciate how Whoopi just goes out there and says these things with her whole chest.

As far as I know, I have never lived anywhere where someone’s passed away nor have I ever lived in a haunted house. My father-in-law, however, is convinced that his house is haunted, even though it was a new build when they bought it 20 years ago. He thinks maybe it’s the spirit of someone who was buried on their land plot ages ago. He’s even set up cameras to try and prove it. My MIL has never seen it, but my SIL says she has and my older son apparently made a comment to my FIL one morning after he spent the night there that has him convinced that he saw it too. Thankfully, my in-laws’ alleged ghost seems to be okay with them being there. Because, as Whoopi said, it would have let them know if it wanted them to leave.

Whoopi Goldberg on why she’s not married: ‘I’m not invested… I don’t care how you feel’

Whoopi Goldberg has been married and divorced three times. So when she says she’s not meant to be married, I believe her. She’s done thorough research! Not to mention she’s a grown ass woman who knows herself. But a woman preferring to be unattached is still unsettling to some people. (“What do you meeeeaaaaan you don’t want to be married?!”) While appearing on Chris Wallace’s show last week, Chris asked Whoopi to elaborate on her relationship views, and her answer was refreshingly honest: she’s not invested in a partner’s feelings and she doesn’t want to share. It’s as simple as that! Look, I’m not advocating for everyone to be self-centered, but there is value in being clear-eyed about yourself and acting accordingly. Whoopi also touched on the family relationships she is invested in, as well as her hilarious term for hookups:

Whoopi Goldberg believes she isn’t meant to be married, and she has a good idea why.

On Friday’s episode of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” the thrice-divorced actor and comedian elaborated on some of her previous remarks about being ill-suited to married life.

“Why are you not meant for marriage?” host Chris Wallace asked. “You don’t want to share?”

“No, I don’t,” Goldberg said. “I don’t care how you feel. I mean, it’s terrible. You know, when you’re married to somebody, you have to be invested in how they’re feeling.”

“Absolutely,” Wallace agreed, to which Goldberg responded with a laugh, “I am not.”

The “Sister Act” star clarified that she does care deeply about the feelings of some people — just not a potential spouse.

“I’m invested in my kid, I’m invested in her kids, I’m invested in my son-in-law, I’m invested in my friends, but I am not invested in a relationship that would require as much as having a child requires,” she said. “And I know that that’s not for me.”

When it comes to affairs of the heart, Goldberg said she’s not averse to “hit-and-runs.”

In March, the 68-year-old revealed to her co-hosts on “The View” that her most recent relationship was with a man 40 years her senior.

As Wallace noted, Goldberg has spoken multiple times in the past about the realization that she and marriage are not a match. In 2016, she famously told The New York Times Magazine, “I don’t want somebody in my house.”

[From HuffPost]

“I am not invested in a relationship that would require as much as having a child requires.” Freudian slip or pointed commentary from Miss Whoopi there, likening a husband to a child? Whichever it is, I’m fascinated! When I was a kid I commented to my mother that she tended to mother my father, her husband. And she didn’t disagree! In that moment I thought, “I do not want to do that for another adult.” So I’ve pretty much taken Whoopi’s approach, except even before the practical experience of marriage and divorce. Yes, I’m fully aware that my own insecurities play into this decision. But relationships have always been on the backburner. Figuring myself out, and the work I want to do, are more important to me. At least for right now. I’m open to my feelings changing and evolving as my life unfolds. Just as Whoopi has come to her decision based on having lived her life. And if you want to hear more about Whoopi describing her ingenious hit-and-run ethos, please enjoy this tweet.

Between Law saying he never felt drawn to dating/romantic partnership and Whoopi’s disinterest in marriage/long term partnership…

I enjoy the truthful reminders that there are people who can, and do, practice doing without them. pic.twitter.com/thMjklKA1b

Aliens Kumail Nanjiani Paranormal Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg: aliens are ‘already here, they’ve been here for quite some time’

Embed from Getty Images

Alright, you guys, we are back to one of my favorite topics: the paranormal! To recap, I am fascinated by all of these supernatural, Universe-y type things. I’m talking about ghosts, dreams, intuition, synchronicities, aliens, psychic abilities, etc. I love hearing other people’s stories, too. But onto the topic at hand! Kumail Nanjiani was on The View this week to promote the new Ghostbusters movie, Frozen Empire. Naturally, the topic of conversation had to include a question about whether or not Kumail believes in ghosts, because of course it did. When Sunny Hostin floated it out there, Kumail responded that while he didn’t believe in ghosts, he does, in fact, believe in aliens. Whoopi really turned the convo up, though, when she shared that not only does she believe in extraterrestrials, she knows for a fact that they’re already here, “watching us.”

While Nanjiani said, “I don’t believe in ghosts, I’ve never had an encounter or anything,” he did bring another intriguing idea to the roundtable.

“I’ll tell you what, I do believe in aliens,” Nanjiani boasted. “I think aliens are circling us, waiting for us to get it together so they can come on down. … I think they’re waiting for us to clean up a little bit so that they can come here and tell us we’re really messing things up.”

That’s when a soft-spoken Goldberg, 68, spoke up and said, “They’re already here. They’ve been here for quite some time.”

A surprised Nanjiani needed clarification, asking, “You think they’re here? What are they doing?”

“They’re watching us,” a very serious Goldberg responded.

Hostin, 55, tried bringing some levity to the situation and joked, “They’re talking to Whoopi.”

Given the nature of the conversation, cohost Sara Haines couldn’t help but bring up Goldberg’s Oscar-winning movie to close out the wild conversation.

“She talks to ghosts, not aliens,” Haines, 46, said. “Duh, the movie was Ghost, not Alien.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg brought up her belief in aliens. Back in 2023, Goldberg said she already “knew” about their existence before a congressional hearing on UFOs and aliens claimed the U.S. government recovered “nonhuman” remains from space objects.

“I don’t know why everybody else is so surprised. We’re not the only ones in the universe. We’re just not,” Goldberg explained. “There are more things in heaven and Earth that we are aware of, and we have to be aware of, because that is the nature of being an earthling. It’s going to happen, it has happened, and, so far, we’re alright.”

Still, Goldberg did her best to combat any panic about any supernatural beings, instead insinuating that perhaps they just want to be friends.

“I can say I haven’t seen any zapping happen, I haven’t seen things that you see in the movies, so, maybe they’re not adversaries,” Goldberg said. “Maybe they’re just trying to get along!”

[From Us Weekly]

Well, okay then, Whoopi! Tell us more, I am all ears. I’m not kidding when I say that I love hearing first-hand accounts of anything supernatural. When we talked about Kevin Bacon’s haunted shack, I loved hearing everyone’s stories so much. Some of y’all even recommended podcasts and I subscribed to them, so thank you! As far as aliens go, I do believe that there are so many things that we don’t understand about whatever exists outside of or even within our physical world. Like Whoopi said, it’s such a huge universe out there that it’s difficult for me to believe that we’re the only ones within it. It feels arrogant to think that we are. I mean, it would go a long way to explaining Ron DeSantis, #amirite? JK, JK. But seriously now I want to know what exactly Whoopi knows and how she knows it.

If you’re interested in hearing more on the subject of UFOs and aliens, CB covered the Netflix documentary Encounters last year. Definitely check it out if you’re into this topic.

Whoopi Goldberg’s will stipulates that she won’t live on as a ‘hologram’

Every now and then my mother will stop and say, apropos of nothing, “You know, I really thought we would’ve had teleportation by now.” Well Ma, we may not have teleportation, but we do have holograms and they’re causing existential crises for celebrities and their legacies. We heard Dolly Parton chime in last week and she gave it a sweet and folksy no thank you. Now Whoopi Goldberg has weighed in, saying on a recent episode of The View that she’s taken precautions in her will to guard against any hologram of her being made after she’s gone:

Whoopi Goldberg really wants you to know that she does not want to live on in this life as a hologram.

During a discussion about Aretha Franklin’s newly discovered couch-dwelling will papers, the Oscar-winning Ghost actress, Diablo IV video game fanatic, and The View moderator revealed that her own will prevents anyone from making a digital hologram of her likeness after she dies.

“Yeah, no, I don’t want to be a hologram, but that’s been in my will for 15 years,” the 67-year-old cohost said on Wednesday’s episode of the talk show, referring to a celebrity hologram modeled after Whitney Houston.

Cohost Joy Behar then quipped, “No one has really asked me if I want to be a hologram yet,” to which Goldberg replied: “They don’t ask you, that’s the thing. They just do it, and then you go, ‘Hey, isn’t that Tupac? Wait a minute, didn’t Tupac die? What is he doing up on…’ Yeah, see, I don’t want that. It’s a little freaky, creepy.

Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in to say she thought it was okay if the celebrity’s estate approved of such a move, but Goldberg shut that down, too.

“Yeah, my estate doesn’t want it,” Goldberg said. “My estate wants to be left alone.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg has revealed the contents of her will on The View. In December 2022, she said that her post-death documents prevent unauthorized biopics about her life.

“They’re not going to make films because in my will it says, ‘Unless you speak to my family, try it.’ Try it,” Goldberg said at the time.

[From Yahoo! Entertainment]

So I’m lucky in that my day job is working with the estate of a dearly-departed entertainer, and I can tell you that this is a hot-button issue right now (holograms, not Whoopi’s will). And for obvious reasons, right? Operating under the assumption that we can’t control anything after we die, the drive then is to preemptively protect yourself from people putting words in your mouth and from being associated with something you don’t sign off on, and naturally all that is amplified in the case of a public figure. Putting explicit instructions in legal writing is necessary–don’t forget how close we came to Justin Timberlake besmirching Prince with a hologram at the 2018 Superbowl Halftime Show. With SAG-AFTRA officially on strike alongside the WGA, and one of the key issues being safeguards against AI, I think we’re going to be hearing a lot of artists talking more openly about this. So I think Whoopi is doing the right thing in spelling out her wishes clearly in her will. That being said, it is pretty hilarious that she’s thinking about keeping other people from maligning her image when she does a heck of a job doing that to herself.

Whoopi Goldberg criticizes Duchess Meghan for feeling objectified as a Briefcase Girl

The latest episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s Archetypes podcast dropped on Tuesday morning. Instead of listening to the 50-minute podcast and judging Meghan’s words directly from the pod, there seems to be a whole trend for celebrity women to “read a TMZ headline about Meghan and react publicly.” Like, even if you don’t have 50 minutes to listen to every Archetypes pod, Meghan’s talk about her days on Deal or No Deal are part of the first ten minutes! You can seriously listen to it for free and judge her based on her words, without any tabloid filter! It’s that easy! Claudia Jordan didn’t get the memo and she wrote a whole-ass Instagram Story about sh-t she didn’t listen to. It seems like Whoopi Goldberg did the same on yesterday’s episode of The View.

Whoopi Goldberg is taking issue with some of Meghan Markle’s recent comments about her time on the game show Deal or No Deal. On Wednesday’s episode of The View, the Oscar-winning actress questioned what Markle, 41, recently revealed during her Archetypes podcast. In the episode that aired Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex — then an aspiring actress — shared her experience as a “briefcase girl” on the NBC show, telling guest Paris Hilton she felt “objectified.” Markle said she eventually left the show because of these feelings.

Markle’s thoughts didn’t resonate with Goldberg, 66. “On that show, you basically had a suitcase and they wanted to know: ‘Is this the deal you want, or is this not the deal you want?’” the Sister Act actress said to her co-hosts.

“I don’t know that the people who are sitting there are thinking about you like that,” continued Goldberg. “They’re thinking, I want the money.”

Goldberg noted, “[Wheel of Fortune hostess] Vanna White is always in something interesting and beautiful, and she’s been doing this. The objectification might be coming from you and how you felt about how these women were being portrayed, and that’s what you have to change — because we’re performers. When you’re a performer, you take the gig.”

As The View roundtable continued to discuss Markle’s comments, Goldberg talked about what’s expected in Hollywood. “We’re not journalists, we’re actors,” she said. “You left, and that was your prerogative. But I feel bad because I don’t think people were looking at these girls like this, I think people wanted the money.”

Goldberg added later, “That’s TV, baby. But, what did you think you were going to? You know that’s what the show was.”

[From People]

Meghan literally spoke about how grateful she was to work on Deal or No Deal and be part of the union and have healthcare. She said that the spray tan vouchers and the bra-padding were all part of the job and she didn’t complain, but she did leave the show because she wanted to do something different. Whoopi argues that Meghan shouldn’t have FELT OBJECTIFIED because the contestants weren’t focusing on the looks of the Briefcase Girls… even though the women were all required to wear skimpy clothes, pad their bras, get spray tans and suck in their stomachs. Sure. Good talk, Whoopi. Seriously, what is with people this week?

Whoopi Goldberg suspended from ‘The View’ for two weeks following anti-Semitic comments

One of my least favorite gossip subsets is “Whoopi Goldberg said something appalling and people are really mad about it.” Whoopi has a long history of saying awful sh-t, and people – mostly conservative jackholes – always climb up her ass about it. Both things can be true: Whoopi says incredibly offensive stuff regularly, and conservatives target Whoopi particularly because she’s a politically liberal Black woman. This week, everyone’s mad at Whoopi because she said some God-awful sh-t about the Holocaust:

“The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg has apologized after provoking outrage for repeatedly asserting that “the Holocaust isn’t about race.” Her initial comments came during a segment of the ABC talk show on Monday that focused in part on a Tennessee school district’s decision to ban “Maus,” a graphic novel that depicts the horrors of the Holocaust. Earlier this month, McMinn County, Tennessee, Board of Education removed the book from its eighth-grade English language arts curriculum, citing “rough, objectionable language” and a drawing of a nude woman.

During the roundtable discussion, Goldberg said she was surprised that the nudity in “Maus” — and not the Holocaust itself — is what appeared to concern the school board, while co-host Joy Behar replied that the nudity concerns were likely “a canard to throw you off from the fact that they don’t like history that makes White people look bad.”

“Well, this is White people doing it to White people, so y’all gonna fight amongst yourselves,” Goldberg said, referring to the Holocaust. While none of the co-hosts pushed back after that statement, the conversation then turned to how some are attempting to ban problematic parts of the nation’s history, particularly history dealing with race and racism, from being taught in schools. Goldberg responded: “If you’re going to do this, then let’s be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race.” She added that the Holocaust, which saw an estimated 6 million Jews and 5 million others killed as a result of the Nazis’ racist ideology, was about “man’s inhumanity to man” and said it involved “two White groups of people.”

In a statement late Monday, Goldberg said she made an error with her comment.

“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust “is not about race but about man’s inhumanity to man.” I should have said it is about both,” she wrote on Twitter. “As Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League shared, “The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.” I stand corrected. The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.”

[From CNN]

Ugh. Of course the Holocaust was about race! Jewish people are Semitic. That’s literally why it’s called “anti-Semitism,” because it’s racism against Semitic people. Nazis literally called Jewish people “an inferior race.” I can’t believe The View cohosts didn’t push back on Whoopi in real time. This is the kind of dumbf–k Holocaust misinformation which LEADS to hate crimes and racist propaganda. Anyway, as you can see, Whoopi “apologized” and everybody was still really mad at her. This time, ABC couldn’t clean up Whoopi’s mess with an on-air apology and a promise to do better. They actually had to do something harsher: they suspended her from The View for two weeks.

Whoopi Goldberg, the comedian and actress who is also a co-host of the ABC talk show “The View,” will be suspended for two weeks, the network announced Tuesday night, after she said repeatedly during an episode of the show that aired on Monday that the Holocaust was not about race, comments that come at a time of rising antisemitism globally. She later apologized.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Kim Godwin, president of ABC News, said that Ms. Goldberg would be suspended for “her wrong and hurtful comments.”

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” she said. “The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

There was a fierce backlash to Ms. Goldberg’s remarks. Jewish groups said that her comments were dangerous and the latest example of growing ignorance about the Nazi genocide. During World War II, under a policy of mass extermination, the Nazis killed six million Jews — about a third of the world’s Jewish population at the time — on the basis that they were an inferior race.

[From The NYT]

For what it’s worth, Page Six’s media insiders say that Whoopi could conceivably be fired from The View. She would only have herself to blame, quite honestly. Imagine digging in your heels about this, just days after International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and during a period where there’s a global rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes.
