Who was the best-dressed of the 2025 MTV VMAs?

The MTV VMAs were held last night in NYC. One of the weird things about the music industry is that MTV’s importance and relevance has vastly decreased over the course of the past fifteen years, I would say. I can’t even really pinpoint it, but I would say it started happening when MTV became more of a reality-show and gameshow network and there were like no music videos on the channel, ever. As such, I wonder why they even bother with the VMAs at this point – it’s not like MTV even shows the videos they’re awarding. Anyway, you can see the list of this year’s VMA winners here – Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande were the biggest winners of the night.

Sabrina Carpenter wore Valentino on the red carpet. The dress makes her waist look especially snatched, but the mismatched boa is so dumb. I “get” Sabrina’s styling and the look she’s going for, and it’s fine. It’s nothing new.

Ariana Grande wore Fendi – this is awful??

Doja Cat in Balmain – sure, whatever.

Ciara in Schiaparelli – this is weirdly my favorite look of the event.

Lola Young in Chanel. I like Lola!

FKA twigs wore custom Matières Fécales. This is awful as well.

I did not even recognize Ashlee Simpson.

Lady Gaga wore Marc Jacobs. Well, it’s a look!

Diana Ross Doja Cat Fashion Khaby Lame Met Gala Tessa Thompson Tracee Ellis Ross

Diana Ross made a dramatic entrance at the Met Gala in an enormous Eleven Sixteen cape

Diana Ross was one of the arrivals who made everyone sit up and take notice last night. She was there with her son, Evan Ross, and she said in her interview that he convinced her to go. Diana was in an Eleven Sixteen by Ugo Mozie gown complete with a halo-like feather hat and a cape with a huge train that required multiple handlers. She killed it. This was Diana’s first Met Gala in 22 years! She is 81 years old.

Prior to last night, I had not heard of Khaby Lame, but I definitely know who he is now. He is the most followed person on TikTok and he has 80 million followers on Instagram. Ugo Mozie styled him in Boss and he was such a standout! I thought he was a model.

I don’t have an ID on Tessa Thompson’s fabulous bubble suit gown, but she linked to Thom Browne in her Instagram Stories, although the designer hasn’t posted her look yet (update that was to an editorial in Vogue that included Browne, so this may be incorrect). Tessa had an Andre Leon Talley fan!

Diana’s daughter Tracee Ellis Ross was in Marc Jacobs. I adore this oversized look in shades of pink and burgundy. Tracee always brings it.

Doja Cat was a bit silly in a pinstripe Marc Jacobs bodysuit with a leopard bodice. At least she didn’t dress as an actual cat this time, although that look was on theme for the Met Gala’s Karl Lagerfeld homage.

Doja Cat Fashion Halle Berry Lisa Oscars photos Queen Latifah Raye Whoopi Goldberg

Halle Berry in a mirrored Siriano at the Oscars: incredible workmanship and design

Presenter Halle Berry was such a standout on the red carpet in this intricately designed and fabulously executed Christian Siriano gown featuring thousands of mirrored pieces. I love the sequin mesh sides and the little train. I was just blown away by this gown. Christian Siriano was part of the E! fashion panel and he said it was a career goal to dress Halle for the Oscars. You could tell how proud he was of this look and he should be, it was phenomenal. The only thing I’ll say against it is that it flashed on camera and reflected the light in a way I found distracting when she was on stage. I don’t know how they could have avoided that. I would watch a two hour documentary on this dress. Her styling is also perfection.

I would have loved to have seen Van Hunt on the red carpet with her but he doesn’t need to go to everything and I imagine that these ceremonies can be a drag for plus ones. Sometimes I think about Don Cheadle saying that he feels restrained at the Oscars because he can’t talk smack about people when the cameras catch every moment. That’s so relatable to me apart from getting to go to the Oscars.

Presenter and EGOT Whoopi Goldberg wore a “custom Siriano liquid water” off the runway gown. I like how bold this is, the color and reflective properties of the fabric are such and standout. As a Gen X woman I love seeing Whoopi. She was a staple of my teen years. Whoopi brought her daughter, Alex Martin, as her date.

Performer Queen Latifah was also in Siriano, in a lovely crimson gown with puffy shoulders. Queen Latifah did the Quincy Jones tribute last night and I like that they opened with Ease on Down The Road from The Wiz! That was the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. I was five and I had skipped school that day, but my mom still let me go to the movies.

Speaking of the performances, we had a whole ass tribute to James Bond for some reason. I’m thinking Amazon paid for that. My favorite performance was Raye doing Skyfall at the end. She was adorable in her red carpet interview and I will be watching her career. Raye wore Vivienne Westwood and she looked like a bombshell.

Doja Cat was very on brand in leopard print retro Balmain. This was kind of cool looking and we’ve seen so much worse from her. I kind of loved her performance outfit with the dripping sequins even though it was quite on the nose for “Diamonds are Forever.”

Lisa of Blackpink was in a custom Mark Gong tuxedo dress on the red carpet. This is one of the most unique looking tuxedo gowns I’ve seen and I see the craftsmanship and thought that went into it. The designer describes it on Instagram as “a long tailored coat with a long pleated white shirt and velvet bow tie.” He calls it “strong, confident but mysterious” and says “it was joyful and exciting to create this look.” It definitely shows! I love how the buttons for the shirt continue down the skirt and how everything layers delicately.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat wore a t-shirt with an image of Sam Ryder, a Nazi-adjacent comedian

When Doja Cat started getting a lot of attention for her music, suddenly there was an interest in her background. Of course people started digging, and it didn’t take them long to figure out that Doja had a history of hanging out in incel/misogynistic/Nazi online spaces and doing and saying dumb sh-t. She also recorded a song under the name “Dindu Nuffin” which seemingly disparaged Black victims of police brutality. In 2020, Doja said that she never stripped in incel video chatrooms but she did some “dumb-ass” stuff when she was younger and she gave some kind of apology. Crash cut to three years later, and Doja posted-and-deleted photos where she wore a t-shirt with an image of Sam Hyde, a “comedian” with neo-Nazi links.

The US rapper Doja Cat has been slammed online after photos posted to her Instagram account showed her wearing a T-shirt that featured an image of a comedian with neo-Nazi links. On Friday, several images posted on her account showed her wearing a top featuring the controversial comedian Sam Hyde.

The celebrity news account Pop Base said that Doja Cat, 27, initially shared her look in a photo on her main feed but later deleted it and re-uploaded a new version with the image cropped out. A slightly blurry selfie of her wearing the shirt showing Hyde’s face was also posted on her Instagram stories.

Representatives for Doja Cat did not respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside of normal working hours.

Hyde co-wrote “Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace,” a sketch-comedy show that premiered on Adult Swim in 2016. Pitchfork reported that the show was canceled after one season following criticism that it promoted racism and sexism and shared bigoted views.

In 2017, Hyde also pledged $5,000 for the legal defense of the founder of the Daily Stormer website, a neo-nazi publication. Andrew Anglin was sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center for organizing a “troll storm” against a Jewish woman in Montana, the Los Angeles Times reported. When a reporter contacted Hyde to ask for a comment, Hyde reportedly asked if they were Jewish and claimed $5,000 was nothing to him.

[From Yahoo]

I had no idea who Sam Hyde was or his background, or the fact that his merchandise exists. That’s what gets me – you can argue that, oh, Doja maybe didn’t know who he was and she just randomly wore this t-shirt, whoopsie. But where did she get it? This isn’t a MAGA hat, which can unfortunately be found anywhere. You would actually have to seek this out and hunt for this t-shirt. So, yeah, I sort of believe she knew exactly what she was doing. It sounds like a continuation of her Nazi-adjacent bullsh-t.

Doja Cat really has deep rooted issues as a woman & she thinks being an “edge lord” for ugly white men makes her different..

Amanda Seyfried Doja Cat Jared Leto Met Gala

Doja Cat had a prosthetic cat face and wore Oscar de la Renta at the Met Gala

The Met Gala was a lot of fun last night. So many celebrities had stories about working with Karl Lagerfeld and the fashion was playful and fun. There were plenty of cat-themed purses and some people dressed as Karl’s beloved cat, Choupette. Doja Cat had the most buzz early on as she showed up in this Oscar de la Renta sequin and feather white gown with a little cat-ear hood. Notably she was sporting prosthetics to make her look like a cat. This is striking, but it’s like a high end version of a lazy girl’s Halloween costume – throw on some cat ears and a sexy dress and call it a day. It could be a little more creative, you know?

Amanda Seyfried got the better Oscar de la Renta look in this “custom gold and platinum draped bugle bead embroidered dress.” She’s one of those celebrities who makes you go “ooh who is that?” when you see her from far away. Her styling is perfection and I absolutely love this gown. She looks amazing.

I know Jared Leto should maybe get his own post since he showed up in a giant fluffy cat costume, but f this guy. I can’t stand him. He regularly pulls stunts at the Met Gala, and this is no different. He was basically a mascot. Anyone else could have taken that hat off and I would love this look honestly, it’s fun. I can’t find a designer ID yet but I’ll update when I do. He usually wears Gucci.

Cardi B wore a sculptural Gaurav Gupta to the Grammys: gorgeous?

The Grammys are always so… all over the place. The most chaotic and shambolic awards show, especially for fashion. I remember a time when artists would turn up the Grammys in their leather rocker gear or what amounted to their concert-performance gear. Now people wear couture and it’s just another red carpet. Now, I still enjoy it when someone makes the effort. Cardi B is such a Fashion Girl – she loves couture, she loves to experiment, she loves trying out different designers. At this year’s Grammys, she went for this sculptural Gaurav Gupta gown. It looked amazing on her.

Doja Cat in Versace. I had no idea her waist was that snatched. She looks amazing in this vinyl creation.

Olivia Rodrigo in Miu Miu. Such a ‘90s Girl look, I can’t believe this is back in style, I love it so much.

Machine Gun Kelly in Dolce & Gabbana (he looks like Jiffy Pop) and Megan Fox in Zuhair Murad. Surprised that these two are still happening, honestly. And I was shocked by his hillbilly accent on the red carpet.

Doja Cat Feuds Noah Schnapp

Noah Schnapp apologizes to Doja Cat for leaking her DMs

Last week, Doja Cat mired herself in controversy by publicly bashing 17-year-old Noah Schnapp for leaking DMs in which she asked him to hook her up with his costar. It was rude and immature of Noah to post her DMs, but it was even more rude and immature for 26-year-old Doja to make a huffy live video slamming a teenager. Going by her Twitter moves (strategic likes and name changes) Doja seems to have dug in her heels and it doesn’t appear she’s apologized. But apparently Noah has? On his TikTok, in response to some fan comments he noted that he apologized to Doja privately and they’re all good.

In a now-deleted TikTok, the teen star shared a screenshot of his conversation with Doja. But the following day, she put him on blast in a livestream with her fans.

She claimed that Noah’s actions were “degrading” and “exploitative” as she questioned his motives for sharing it.

“Maybe he is, like, a whole snake. But I didn’t see him that way,” Doja said. “I made an assumption that he was gonna be chill about it, and he went and shared information that I didn’t feel comfortable with him sharing.”

“There’s just something very weird. It’s very degrading and exploitative behavior,” she went on. “And it’s embarrassing. It’s, like, super embarrassing.”

Doja then said that Noah’s behavior wasn’t “normal” as she admitted that she hadn’t told him not to share a screenshot of the chat because she didn’t expect that to be something he’d do. “You don’t expect people to do that because it’s not normal to do that,” she said. “It’s literally not cool and it’s not normal.”

“It feels like a weird power play thing,” Doja concluded.

While people sympathized with Doja for her messages being exposed without her consent, many felt that she was too harsh on Noah considering he is only a child.

But Doja appeared to double down on her stance on Twitter, where she liked a tweet in her support amid the backlash. “No one was mad at you for DMing him when he posted, they were all laughing!” the tweet read. “But the second you express your concern it’s, ‘Why was she DMing a 17-year-old?’ Like they need to be serious.”

Doja herself tweeted an apparent jibe at the critics, writing: “Y’all are so cringe and lame and nobody wants to hang w u that’s why y’all be on here unironically writing replies to shit that makes you mad.”

She also changed her username on the social media app to “im better than you.”

But Noah has now revealed that his and Doja’s run-in is water under the bridge, insisting that there are “no hard feelings” between them after he privately apologized for sharing the screenshot.

In fact, the actor went so far as to use one of Doja’s songs in his latest TikTok video, which simply showed him doing math equations via a filter in a car.

His followers couldn’t believe that he’d used “Kiss Me More” by Doja as the upload’s audio, with one commenting: “NOT YOU USING A DOJA SONG 😭 #icon”

Another wrote: “THE SONG NOAH ILY😂” And a third said: “LOLOL DOJA SONG.”

Upon seeing the reaction, Noah decided to set the record straight. He commented: “Guys everything is all good I apologized and I still follow her and love her music no hard feelings ❤️❤️”

But while Noah and Doja may have been able to make amends, the incident has had long-term repercussions on their online profiles.

In fact, social media analytics company Social Blade revealed that Doja lost 200,000 followers on Instagram after she called Noah out. Meanwhile, Noah’s following has increased by 920,000 accounts.

Doja has not publicly reacted to Noah’s most recent TikTok, and Joe is still yet to acknowledge the entire thing.

[From Buzzfeed News]

So I’m not one of those Never Apologize people, but I definitely don’t think he needed to apologize here, especially after she made that video bashing him. It’s extremely lame to call a teenager names and she also ascribed nefarious intentions to what was actually just an obnoxious and immature action. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t trying to degrade or exploit or power play her. He was just acting like a dumb kid. And his behavior wasn’t abnormal either — people far older than him screenshot and share crap they shouldn’t all the time. But it definitely was embarrassing, I’ll give Doja that. But for her more so than him. She should apologize, but she probably won’t. I get why he did, even though he didn’t have to — it also has the bonus of making him look like the bigger person and come off better than her. He also gained 900K Instagram followers, she lost 200K, and there’s been nary a peep from Joe Quinn. Well played, Noah; poorly handled, Doja.
