Source close to viral Coldplay couple says there was no affair & the fallout is unfair

One of the more fascinating elements of the Coldplay Kiss Cam Gate™ is that when the camera landed on the couple at the center of it all — Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot, CEO and HR Chief of tech startup Astronomer, respectively, and married to other people — the pair were merely engaged in a spoon-hug. Granted, it looked intimate and they were holding hands; but there were still ways to play it off as no big deal. What sent the moment into overdrive was the couple’s kneejerk reactions to duck and cover. Nothing signals “I’m doing something I shouldn’t be” like immediately desisting from the verboten activity and hiding. Since that fateful July concert, Andy and Kristin have both resigned from Astronomer, and Kristin has filed for divorce from her husband Andrew Cabot. The Cabots have also been getting the backstory out that they were already separated before the Kiss Cam seen around the world. Well, now “a source close to” Kristin is speaking out, primarily to decry that there was no affair and the fallout has been deeply unfair.

Inappropriate hugging, but no affair: “Kristin and Andy [Byron] had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair,” the source tells PEOPLE. “It was inappropriate to be hugging your boss at a concert, and she accepts full responsibility for it,” the source says. “But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job — all of that is unfair.” … The moment thrust two couples — Byron and his reported spouse, Megan, and Cabot and her husband, Andrew — into the spotlight, fueling countless memes and headlines.

It could happen to any of us! “It is important to note how inappropriately mislabeled Kristin has been — as a homewrecker,” says the source, who notes Byron and Cabot attended the concert with a group of friends. “It’s unfathomable to witness what has happened, and how devastating it can be, for not just individuals, but entire families,” says the source. “All I can think of is that this could happen to any of us at any time. I think all of the misinformation has been the most mind-blowing to witness. These are real people and real families,” they say. “The way people have taken a lot of enjoyment at their expense, it’s hard to see.”

Kristin’s husband was also there “on a date”?? “Kristin and Andrew [Cabot] had been living apart,” the Cabot source says, adding that on the night Cabot was seen with Byron, her husband was also “at the Coldplay concert on a date.” “It was not a company event,” says the source of Byron and Cabot being together that night. “There was no company box. It was a night with a big group of friends and an inappropriate moment.”

The lack of privacy has been hard: As for how Cabot is doing, the source says, “It’s been hard for her to leave the house. She’s been prioritizing her family. Her kids have been through a lot.” … “Kristin had people standing outside her car while she was picking her son up from work, grown women laughing, taking pictures, pointing,” the source says. “It’s been a tough thing to watch.” … “In the first three days after the news broke, she had about 900 death threats on her phone,” the source says. “And just overall, the mockery made of someone, the way people really seem to enjoy it and feel as though if somebody makes a mistake — public shaming is absolutely on the table as a punishment.”

Focusing on the kids: Right now, the source says, Cabot “is making sure her kids are okay, and that’s going to take time. Kristin has a lot of family and friends around her that know who she really is and love her, and will all see her through this,” the source says, adding, “It will take time.”

[From People]

The people I’ve always felt the most for in this messy situation are all the kids involved. Kristin has kids from a previous marriage, her now-estranged husband has kids from a previous marriage, and Andy Byron has kids with his current wife (or as People Mag referred to her, “his reported spouse, Megan”). I really hope all of these kids have solid support networks. And it’s also good that Kristin has support of her own from friends and family, including this devoted “source” who insists that Kristin is no homewrecker. The thing is, though, we’re still missing half the equation, right? The “source” can only speak to the parties she knows, the Cabots (and commenting that Andrew Cabot was also “on a date” at the concert sure seems like a telling admission). But if Byron “and his reported spouse” were not separated, then… yeah. And frankly, the Byrons don’t owe the public any explanation or clarification. I will say, that if Coldplay frontman Chris Martin championed the practice of conscious uncoupling, then this group is giving a master class in unconscious entanglement.

Astronomer HR head Kristin Cabot has also resigned after Coldplay cheating video

Chief People Office Kristin Cabot has finally resigned from tech company Astronomer (a unicorn!). The official exit comes days after CEO Andy Byron resigned, and a week after the pair of them, each married to other people, were caught on the kiss cam at a concert. They were watching Coldplay, where presumably they thought they’d be safe from attention or recognition of any kind. Instead, they went viral. Though the camera didn’t catch them actually kissing, their obvious knee-jerk reaction to hide ended up giving the game away.

Days after Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned from the tech startup, the HR exec who was with him at the infamous Coldplay concert has left as well.

“Kristin Cabot is no longer with Astronomer, she has resigned,” a company spokesperson wrote in an email to CNBC Thursday. Cabot was the company’s chief people officer.

Cabot and Byron, who is married with children, were shown in an intimate moment on the ‘kiss cam’ at a recent Coldplay show in Boston, and immediately hid when they saw their faces on the big screen. Lead singer Chris Martin said, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” An attendee’s video of the incident went viral.

Byron resigned from the company on Saturday. Both Cabot and Byron have been removed from the company’s leadership team webpage.

Pete DeJoy, Astronomer’s CEO, wrote in a post earlier this week that recent and unexpected national attention has turned the company into “a household name.”

In May, the New York-based company, which commercializes open source software, announced a $93 million investment round led by Bain Ventures and other investors, including Salesforce Ventures.

[From CNBC]

Before you start feeling too badly for Kristin getting booted out of a job (thanks to her own actions), I invite you to take a look at these pap shots from the Daily Mail of Kristin watering the garden of her stately, $2 million second home in New Hampshire that she bought this year with the man she’s still married to. I can’t believe it’s only been one week of Kiss Cam Gate™! Feels longer. Anyway, I think now is the time to leave these families to sort themselves out; that’s private and for them. The feeling of being swept up in a cultural moment, however, belongs to all of us. There’s for sure a movie to be made, here! It doesn’t even have to be about the couple. I’m thinking some Rashomon-style piece in which the kiss cam is the inciting incident around which we follow an ensemble of characters. So really the film is about all these other (fictional) people; snapshots of their lives, and then all vignettes are united through these disparate stories being intersected by one viral moment. Though I think this pic would easily be at home with A24, I am open to receiving offers from other studios as well. Except for Paramount.

Tech CEO resigns after Coldplay concert cheating video goes viral

For my 2025 bingo card, I certainly did not have us getting an epic viral moment… from a Coldplay concert, but here we are. On Wednesday (yes, we’re only five days in to Kiss Cam Gate!) Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot attended a Coldplay concert in Boston, and gave the world a master class in what NOT to do when the Kiss Cam lands on you in the midst of an affair. We the public probably would have been none the wiser had Andy not ducked out of view, or Kristin hadn’t hid her face in her hands and then turned her back to the camera. (Sidenote: a couple has helpfully put together a tutorial on better ways to play off such a moment. The world truly is coming together in hard times.) Complicating matters is that Andy and Kristen aren’t merely lovers, they’re also coworkers at billion-dollar tech company, Astronomer. And they’re not merely coworkers, they’re both C-Suite Leadership, with Andy CEO and Kristin the Chief People Officer, or Human Resources. Yikes!!

So after the story blew up on Thursday and Friday, Astronomer came back down to earth over the weekend and made a series of announcements via their LinkedIn page. Here was their first statement:

Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.

The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.

Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event and no other employees were in the video. Andy Byron has not put out any statements, reports saying otherwise are all incorrect.

That last line was in response to a couple things; a fake statement that was attributed to Andy before being debunked, plus the rumor that attending the concert was a work event/outing. No other employees may have been there, but I’ll stake my life on the fact that whoever that woman is standing to the left of the couple, she KNEW they were being caught in the act! Watch the clip again and just focus on that woman — her facial reaction is the personification of, “Oh, fuuuuuuudge.” Moving right along, Astronomer issued a second statement that CEO Andy had been put on leave:

Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEO given Andy Bryon has been placed on leave.

We will share more details as appropriate in the coming days.

And then the “coming days” came quickly, with Astronomer confirming they’d let Andy resign as they released a third statement:

As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.

Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.

Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI.

While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not.

We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.

[From LinkedIn]

And of course, the whole thing gets messier. Interim CEO Pete DeJoy liked a LinkedIn post made by a former Astronomer colleague in which the poster said, “Yes, I’ve laughed at the memes.” Actually, this makes me like DeJoy more. (Also, his bio says he was a cofounder of Astronomer eight years ago; by my calculations, that means he founded the company when he was 12. Look at the baby face of his profile pic!) There have indeed been some glorious memes, my favorite probably being The Phillies’ own take on a Kiss Cam. I won’t say more so as not to spoil your viewing.

But the messiest part continues to be the trysting duo at the center. As of this writing, Kristin has been put on leave, and the internet uncovered that she divorced her first husband in 2022, and is still married to her second husband, another CEO named Andy, who has a rum business. Andy Byron’s wife, for her part, dropped her married name from her Facebook page and then deleted it. Both couples have adolescent and young adult children, so old enough to be online and mortified by what’s going on. If any lessons can be learned from this, well, obviously don’t cheat! And I’d also like to reiterate: no business is worth tanking, nor marriage worth wrecking… over a Coldplay concert.

Tech company CEO and head of HR caught cheating by jumbotron at Coldplay concert

Today in stupid news, two coworkers at a billion-dollar tech company were caught canoodling on the jumbotron at a Coldplay concert in Boston. I should note that the pair are not married, at least not to each other. And they weren’t exactly canoodling, it was more of a very amorous looking spoon-hug situation. But the real tip off that these two were doing something they shouldn’t be was each of their reactions. Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, took all of three seconds to duck out of view, while HR chief Kristin Cabot covered her face in her hands before turning her back to the camera and eventually walking away. Watch for yourselves, it is BAD! Making the moment even more cringe was frontman Chris Martin remarking on their scurrying out of sight, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy.” The former, Chris.

Caught in the act: Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his alleged mistress can be seen rushing to shield their faces as they flashed up on a big screen draped in each other’s arms. As a “kiss cam” camera panned onto married Byron and his HR chief Kristin Cabot at Wednesday night’s gig in Boston, Massachusetts, frontman Martin said: “Oh look at these two.” But Byron – who had his arms wrapped around Cabot – swiftly let go of his grip and dived behind the barrier out of view as his shocked alleged lover hid her blushing face with her hands. Laughter erupted among the thousands packed into Gillette Stadium as Viva la Vida singer Martin quipped: “Oh what… either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy.”

Public displays of affection: According to Byron’s LinkedIn, he has been CEO of software development company Astronomer – understood to be worth more than $1.3 billion (£1 billion) – since July 2023. Cabot, meanwhile, has been the firm’s Chief People Officer for nine months. The HR staffer … boasts on her page that she wins “trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants”. When Cabot was appointed in November, Byron released a gushing comment praising her “exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management”. He added: “She is a proven leader at multiple growth-stage companies and her passion for fostering diverse, collaborative workplaces makes her a perfect fit for Astronomer.” Cabot released a similarly enthusiastic comment, saying she was “energised in my conversations with Andy and the Astronomer leadership team about the opportunities that exist here”.

People are rallying behind Byron’s wife: The mortifying footage from Wednesday night’s gig has gone viral on social media – having been shared thousands of times on X and TikTok. Hundreds have accused Byron of cheating on his wife, and have shared support for her. One social media user commented: “Sorry for the wife but glad they’re being exposed and embarrassed.” Another wrote: “How utterly sad.” A third said: “They are both incredibly stupid, sorry. Why would you go to a concert of all places if you are having an affair.” Neither Byron or Cabot appear to have addressed affair allegations yet.

[From The Sun]

Yeah, I’m with the commenter who simultaneously expressed sympathy for Byron’s wife — who’s already had to make her Facebook private due to the influx of affair questions coming in — yet glee over the lying lovers being so publicly embarrassed. Ridicule is the least of what they’ve earned. And speaking of, those fawning quotes they gave about each other as colleagues really don’t hold up well in the new context of their affair. Or am I the only juvenile who read lines like, “deep expertise in talent management” and “energised in my conversations with Andy” with exaggerated emphasis on certain key words?

As far as I’m concerned, these two have committed at least three crimes. There’s the crime of infidelity, the crime of stupidity, and then I’m gonna add the crime of making ME feel stupid, cause I’ve been reading their company Astronomer’s homepage over and over again for 10 minutes straight and cannot figure out what the f–k it is they do! And I’m a woman of moderate intelligence! (Stop laughing.) “We are the company behind Astro, the industry-leading data orchestration and observability platform powered by Apache Airflow. Astro accelerates building reliable data products that unlock insights, unleash AI value, and power data-driven applications.” Ok, but what do they do? I understand all of these words individually, but together… Just sayin’, I can unlock plenty of insights, too, and I would never wreck a marriage and flaunt it at a concert. So why can’t I be a billionaire?!

Taraji P. Henson Thought Coldplay Was Maroon 5 At Super Bowl Halftime Show

You would think it’s pretty common knowledge that Coldplay was the Super Bowl 50 halftime show headliner (though it certainly seemed more like they were the supporting act to Beyonce and Bruno Mars), but apparently that’s wrong. In fact, Taraji P. Henson was jamming out at the big game to what she thought was Maroon 5, giving her life. Alas, Chris Martin is not Adam Levine (thank God), and Taraji’s public blunder was basically the best part of yesterday.

I suppose it doesn’t really matter who she was getting her life to, and all that matters is that she was enjoying herself. After all, it’s a pretty hilarious blunder to make and a harmless one at that, so why not just enjoy it for the genius it is? Someone with her must have set her straight on things rather quickly, though, as she hit up Twitter soon after to acknowledge her mistake:

Oops, indeed! No harm, no foul, Taraji. You just keep doing you.

Gwyneth Paltrow won’t stop bragging about her divorce

gwyneth paltrow

Look, I know the source is somewhat wonky on this one, but is it really so hard to believe that Gwyneth Paltrow is being insufferable about her perfectly orchestrated divorce announcement? She and Chris Martin announced their “conscious uncoupling” last month, and apparently Goopy hasn’t shut up about it since because she thinks she did so brilliantly with it.

From Radar Online:

’Conscious uncoupling’ has become a joke among Gwyneth’s friend,” a source close to the 41-year-old Country Strong star told Radar.

“All she’s doing is bragging about how peaceful her divorce is and how she and Chris planned it so perfectly that it is hardly disrupting their lives.”

“Gwyneth has always thought she had the most perfect life and even though she’s getting a divorce and both of them are getting bad press she doesn’t care,” the source told Radar.

“She has become insufferable saying how happy she is with the way everything is evolving,” the source told Radar.

“It’s so ridiculous to listen to her talk as if nothing bad is going on at all for her.  But Gwyneth has always had a protected privileged life and this is no different.”

LOL, yeah, this actually sounds 100% legit. Now, I wonder how she’ll gracefully get out of that GOOP financial trouble
