Gabrielle Union in Valentino at the Fashion Awards: amazing and dramatic?

Gabrielle Union in Valentino

There was a great turnout at last night’s Fashion Awards in London, which named Kim Jones of Dior Men and Fendi as designer of the year. Here’s a link to the list of designers who won. First off was Gabrielle Union in a huge bright green Valentino with a side cape and a cutout bodice. I love the big poof in her hair I just wish her makeup wasn’t so subdued. A lot of women were wearing toned down makeup so that must be on trend. You know I like a giant Valentino gown, it fulfills my childhood Barbie fantasies. Just once I would love to wear an enormous dress like that – with all the diamonds too!

Billy Porter hosted, and he made his entrance in a houndstooth sequin Richard Quinn look with pointy shoulders. He was surrounded by acrobats in floral Richard Quinn jumpsuits. I’m trying to decide if Quinn should have coordinated the dancers’ looks with Porter, but that might have been too matchy looking.

Model Munroe Bergdorf looked like a Disney villain in this Richard Quinn ensemble. She’s the lizard queen who lures in children with her mesmerizing eyes. I love how she’s playing that up too.

Addison Rae got the worst Richard Quinn. You might wonder why she was there, but this event was sponsored by TikTok. Look at how uncomfortable she is in that ill fitting garish pink and silver bodice and tight mermaid skirt. She looks mad in some of the photos. It’s what she deserves.

This is Lily Allen in Fendi. I really like the idea and execution of this suit. It’s a tuxedo suit with just the lapels and I don’t think I’ve seen that before. It’s hard not to notice how small she is now.

Gillian Anderson was in Chloe, and she was there with their Creative Director, Gabriela Hearst. This looks so comfortable but it’s a mumu.

Finally here’s Charlie XCX in a black sequin Tommy Hilfiger. We’ve seen this dress from so many designers! Someone phoned this in, but it’s not bad overall. I bet Addison Rae wishes she had this gown instead.

David Harbour Lily Allen Marriage

David Harbour on how Lily Allen’s daughters inspired him to propose

David Harbour appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote Stranger Things and the Black Widow movie. I guess Jimmy is back to desk and couch interviews now, things really are returning to how they once were. The first thing Jimmy did was congratulate David on getting married. David and Lily Allen surprised most of us by getting married in Las Vegas last September during the pandemic. They posted some pictures to their social media from their wedding, but beyond that, neither spoke much about any of it. However, on Kimmel, David opened up a bit. He said that he and Lily had actually gotten engaged before lockdown, but it was Lily’s daughters, Ethel and Marnie, who inspired him to make things official. David said he married Lily so her daughters would know what to call him.

David Harbour made it official with Lily Allen due, in part, to some accidental advice from the British singer’s two young children.

The Stranger Things star, 46, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday, where he spoke about how Allen’s daughters Marnie Rose, 8, and Ethel Mary, 9, whom she shares with ex Sam Cooper, played a role in the couple’s decision to wed in a low-key Las Vegas ceremony last September amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We got engaged right before the pandemic. Then the pandemic hit and nothing was happening,” Harbour said of his plans with his partner, 36.

“We were riding around beginning of pandemic — she has two kids, these beautiful daughters, 8 and 9 — and we were riding bikes out in the country trying to figure out what we were gonna do for the next year or however long it was going to take. And the little one was riding along and she was going like, ‘David, dad, David, dad.’ Because the D got her confused,” he recalled. “And the older one got very upset with that, which I understand. She was like, ‘He’s not our dad! He’s not our dad!’ ”

Harbour continued: “And then younger one was like, ‘Well what is he? He’s kind of our dad.’ She’s like, ‘No he’s not, he’s our stepdad.’ And she goes, ‘What is he?’ And she goes, ‘He’s just some guy in our lives!’ ”

According to the Black Widow actor, that conversation confirmed it was time for him to take the next step.

“I was like, ‘I need to marry this woman,’ ” Harbour joked. “Because the emotional fallout … “

[From People]

If you watch the clip on Kimmel, it’s really funny. David is a great storyteller. But I kind of think there’s an element of truth here. David and Lily had a unique rollout to their relationship. It’s become obvious they aren’t doing it for anyone but themselves. Remember when they first took up, they were hanging all over each other in the streets? I really thought that was going to be their brand. But their honeymoon phase matured and we heard very little from them. They didn’t disappear, just kept to themselves mostly. David clearly became involved with Lily’s daughters, that was apparent on their social media, but he was respectful of their father, Sam Cooper. So I think when he heard Marnie call him “some guy in our lives,” it was funny, but he also wanted to prove to them he was in it for the long haul. If that message was more important than the bells and whistles of a big ceremony, why wait? Maybe David saw the chance to prove his dedication to Lily and the girls right then and there. And the wedding looks like a lot of fun. I’m still in love with Lily’s wedding look. I think everyone go the wedding they wanted.

David said both Marnie and Ethel still jokingly call him, “some guy in our lives.” I love it. It’s like a pre-teens way of keeping the new parent in line.

Lily Allen on How She Lost Weight: I just eat a lot of crisps | then and now lily allen

On how she lost a lot of weight lately:

‘I just eat a lot of crisps, I’m not really eating a lot of proper meals [while on tour]. I think it’s touring and dancing and probably, you know, the not wanting to eat room service thing. I don’t really like food being mass produced, you look at those kitchens and they’re huge just I don’t like it.’

… says Lily.

Police Not Amused By Lily Allen’s Prank Photo

Lily Allen thought her photo of herself being arrested would make people “smile” (see what I did there, thanks) but actually, it made Australian police frown.

Ms. Allen thought it would be fun to get a shot of Australian police handcuffing her and her technicolor hair for her Instagram…and now an official police investigation is being launched to basically decide who the hell thought that would be a good idea. From TMZ:

The Australian Federal Police say officers were escorting Allen through Gold Coast Airport when she jokingly asked one of the cops to handcuff her … and she posted the picture on Instagram.

The AFP wasn’t happy about it and launched an investigation … acknowledging protocols were breached but then kind of justifying it by saying the officers were “caught in the moment.”

The photo has since been removed from her Instagram account, but TMZ got a snap before its disappearance:

Personally, I think it was a baaaad idea, and I think she realized that and deleted it.

Watch This: Lily Allen’s Video for ‘Air Balloon’

I still can’t get over how much I love this song. It’s a little MIA ‘Paper Planes’ derivative, but only in the slightest way – but it’s all around REALLY listenable. If this is a taste of what Lily Allen has to offer on her new album, I’m all in (though I always have been a fan).

The video was shot on location in Cape Town, South Africa and directed by someone called That Go. I’m not generally a fan of music videos and prefer just to listen to the songs, so it’s no surprise that the video does nothing for me. The song itself, though… so good.

Lily Allen on Music Comeback: ‘I Was Bored at Home with Kids’

lily allen

Lily Allen is back in the spotlight, and pop music fans are excited. I know I can’t wait to hear her new album. But why did Lily – who swore she was done with the music industry for good – decide to come back? The last we’d heard upon her retirement, she was ready to spend her time concentrating on being a wife and mum. Turns out, that wasn’t so fulfilling after all and she really missed being creative.

Talking to, she revealed:

“Why did I choose to come back? I ran out of money! No, I’m joking! I thought I’d be a really happy mom just sitting at home, playing with my kids. That was my dream.

“I love my children, but I’m a very impatient, busy person naturally so two babies, neither of them can talk, it was quite boring! Staying at home all day talking to people that can’t talk back.”

“I didn’t realize how much of a creative person I am and that I need somewhere to put my creativity.”

I’m glad Lily was so honest (as always). I think a lot of people would feel guilty admitting that just being a mother wasn’t totally fulfilling in and of itself because they’d be afraid it would make it seem like they didn’t totally love their kids, which is silly. You can love your kids and want to do something for yourself, too – which all people with common sense know, of course. Love me some Lily Allen.

Also, ‘Air Balloon’ is a really good song.

Lily Allen Is Steering Clear of Pop Clichés

lily allen

Lily Allen is back in the music game, having released a lovely Christmas cover for John Lewis and her own new single, ‘Hard Out Here’. This, of course, means a full-length album must be following sometime soon, but Lily wants you to know that her lyrics will be as frank as ever and she has no plans of sitting around talking about the same bullshit the rest of these stars do.

From Q Magazine:

“It’s no use just singing about being famous, or rhyming ‘crazy’ with ‘baby’ a million times over,” she explains. “I still want to write about things that are relevant to other people.

“And I like to be frank, whether it’s about sex or politics or feminism… but if people want to call it controversial, then, well, that’s their thing.”

Fair enough. I enjoy Lily Allen quite a lot and I can’t wait to see what her new album is like, to be honest. I really loved her other two, and I think she’ll have matured just slightly but still have that cheeky side to her. It’s gonna be good. Of course, it’s still pop music, and I think you can’t really make it more than what it is. It’s great that she wants to talk about shit we all relate to, but I’m sure some 14-year-old in Kentucky really feels every bit of Britney Spears‘ ‘Piece of Me’ like it was written with her in mind, so it’s all relative, I suppose.
