Currently, Princess Charlotte is still going viral on Tennis Twitter because of her lack of interest in Jannik Sinner winning Wimbledon. She “did her duty” in speaking to the redheaded Italian, but Charlotte is clearly one of Carlos Alcaraz’s biggest fans. She was brimming with joy in 2023 and 2024 when Alcaraz won the men’s singles title, but she was noticeably subdued about Sinner. I get it, Charlotte. Sinner wasn’t my pick either.

Anyway, I was so focused on Charlotte’s mom during Wimbledon’s championship weekend, I forgot to talk about Charlotte’s styling. Apparently, Charlotte’s dress on Sunday was a custom look designed by Sarah Burton, and they’re saying it was made to mimic a dress worn by Kate several years ago. Charlotte also wore Finlay & Co sunglasses, Camilla Elphick flats and a special charm bracelet from Pandora. Her bracelet had three charms – an emerald (her birthstone), a small heart-disk and a rose-gold charm of Nala from The Lion King.

People Magazine also had a story about Charlotte’s cute pink manicure, and People noted: “there’s no official rule when it comes to manicure colors” for royal women and girls. Many years ago, we were endlessly told that a certain Black duchess was “breaking royal protocol” by wearing noticeable nail polish colors. I’m not saying that people should yell at Charlotte or Kate at all – I’m saying that people should apologize to Meghan for screaming at her for daring to wear bright or dark nail polish a few times.

Princess Kate wore a blue Roksanda to the 2025 Wimbledon men’s final

The Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Wimbledon men’s singles final together, with their two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The final was between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and it genuinely looks like both George and Charlotte are huge Alcaraz fans and they were sort of disappointed when Sinner won. Still, when Sinner visited the Royal Box after his win, Charlotte did ask him to sign a tennis ball. Reportedly, she asked him to sign it for Louis, who apparently isn’t allowed at Wimbledon. People suggested that Louis is too young for the Royal Box? Sure. But they also know that Louis can’t sit still for three-plus hours.

As for fashion… there’s some confusion about why George and William were in ties and jackets… that is the dress code for the Royal Box for men and boys. All men have to wear a tie and jacket of some variety. Now, do I think William and George both should have worn light linen suits given the heat? Sure. Kate wore a blue Roksanda dress, which is new-to-us. It’s pretty. It emphasized her thinness more than anything else she’s worn recently. The Daniella Draper necklace was way too “heavy” for this dress. She also wore and carried an LK Bennett hat, plus Cartier earrings and Ralph Lauren shoes.

A word about the meet-and-greet in the Royal Box for Jannik Sinner…in the old, pre-pandemic days, the champion’s visit to the Royal Box was more of a receiving line where the champion could also speak to some of the other people who attended the final, like tennis legends and celebrities. There was a famous moment when Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon title in 2016 and he greeted Benedict Cumberbatch and asked if Bendy was making another season of Sherlock. But in the past few years, they’ve basically roped off the area so the champion can only speak to Kate and her children. It’s the weirdest thing – champions should be able to speak to other people in the Royal Box besides Kate and the kids.

Princess Kate wore Self Portrait to the 2025 Wimbledon women’s final

A couple of hours before the Wimbledon women’s final on Saturday, Kensington Palace confirmed that the Princess of Wales would attend. This was Kate’s first appearance at Wimbledon during the fortnight – she even skipped the days when Roger Federer was in the Royal Box last week! Kate skipped the women’s final last year as well, only showing up for the men’s final. I thought that was going to be her new thing, skipping the women’s final. I was actually pleasantly surprised that she went on Saturday. She turned up solo – no Charlotte, no George, no Pippa. She missed a British doubles team (Cash & Glasspool) winning the Wimbledon men’s doubles title, but who knows, maybe she talked to them after their win.

Anyway, Kate didn’t really have to worry about the heat yesterday – ESPN said it was around 90 degrees, and basically half of the attendees had their fans out. But the final went by in a flash – Iga Swiatek defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in about an hour. Anisimova couldn’t find any part of her game and it was one of the worst finals I’ve ever seen. Someone on Twitter said that Swiatek won so quickly, no one even had time to faint. So Kate was down on court to present the Venus Rosewater dish much faster than she expected. Kate consoled Amanda a bit, like she did with Ons Jabeur in 2023 (after Jabeur lost in her second consecutive Wimbledon final).

Fashion-wise, Kate kept it familiar, although this wasn’t a repeat. It just FEELS like a repeat because she has a few variations of this ensemble in her closet. This is apparently Self-Portrait in what looks like an off-white, but it’s possibly pale yellow. The buttons are back in a big way too! Kate also carried an Anya Hindmarch purse (my favorite part of the ensemble, and it looks like a purse which Meghan would carry) and she wore a Halcyon Days bracelet (which also looks very “Meghan”).

I’m including some of Wimbledon’s videos involving Kate – she did get a standing ovation and cheers when she walked into the Royal Box, and it didn’t look like people had to be nudged into standing for her (which is what happened with Camilla). Not everyone stood for Kate, but it was fine. She got a warm response. Incidentally, Kate’s appearance at Wimbledon came after she skipped her husband’s charity polo match on Friday.

People had to be nudged into standing for Queen Camilla at Wimbledon

Queen Camilla made it to Wimbledon on Wednesday to catch two quarterfinal matches on Centre Court. Camilla arrived in time to watch the women’s match (which was on first) and she stayed for the entirety of Novak Djokovic’s match against Flavio Cobolli (Novak won, but Cobolli is very good). I watched most of Djokovic’s match, and I was surprised by how many times ESPN cutaway to Camilla in the Royal Box. The American commentators were pleased that “the Queen is in the house” too. As a tennis fan, it’s legitimately cool that royals come out to support tennis – it’s good for the sport, generally speaking.

That being said, it’s always f–king funny to watch tennis people or tennis fans navigate their complete disinterest in royalty. Very few people in attendance at Wimbledon actually gave a sh-t that Camilla was there. When Camilla staggered into the Royal Box, various Royal Box guests had to be physically NUDGED into standing for her. You can see from the photos that Camilla’s presence was treated as nothing special. The comments on Wimbledon’s social media accounts were hilarious too – every time someone says “the Queen,” people deadass think they’re talking about QEII.

Did Hugh Grant doze off in the middle of the men’s match at Wimbledon?

Hugh Grant is a major tennis fan. I’m sure he has his favorite players, but really, he’s just obsessed with the sport entirely. He’s not only a regular at Wimbledon – where he can often be seen in the Royal Box – but he’s also a frequent guest at Roland Garros in Paris. There was an infamous moment in 2017 when tennis fans really embraced Hugh: he turned up in Paris to attend that year’s French Open women’s semifinals. He watched every minute of Jelena Ostapenko vs. Timea Bacsinszky. He has taste!

Well, anyway, Hugh was invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon on Wednesday for the second day of the quarterfinals. I strongly suspect that he was more interested in the women’s match which was on Centre Court first (Andreeva vs. Bencic, with Bencic winning). But he stayed for the men’s quarterfinal match – Novak Djokovic vs. Flavio Cobolli, with Novak winning in four sets. There were tense moments in the first set, with Djokovic and Cobolli trading breaks of serve, then taking it to a tiebreak. This is how Hugh responded to the most nerve-wracking part of the match: zzzzzzz….

It’s always a smart move to keep your sunglasses on so that you can take a little catnap and no one is the wiser. Except Hugh was seated right behind Queen Camilla, and during the Djokovic match, there were dozens of cutaways to Camilla (and Hugh). So… yeah, people caught him napping in the Royal Box. I still say that he was mostly there for the ladies’ match though.

Carole Middleton & Roger Federer are sitting (separately) in Wimbledon’s Royal Box

Over the weekend, Andy Roddick made his first-ever appearance in Wimbledon’s Royal Box. He told ESPN that the All-England Club had extended the invitation, and so he decided to go and just watch tennis and have fun (he brought his wife Brooklyn). I bring that up because the club really does have to *invite* former players and celebrities to sit in the Royal Box, and no one is there by chance.

So, today, for the fourth-round singles matches, the club invited Roger Federer and his wife Mirka Federer to watch the matches from the Royal Box. The club also invited Carole and Michael Middleton. As soon as I saw that Roger was there, I knew that the Middletons would try to get near him. I’m honestly shocked that the Princess of Wales didn’t come out today so she could flirt with Rog. Kate’s due to take a “starring role” in this week’s state visit by President Macron, so maybe she didn’t want to pack too much into her week. Still, you know it hurts to miss “sitting with Roger and ignoring Mirka.”

A few more things… Roger really showed up to watch one of his biggest rivals, Novak Djokovic, get his ass handed to him by Alex De Minuar! As I’m writing this, Djokovic lost his first set 6-1 to Alex. You know Roger is chuckling to himself. As for Carole… she wore a really terrible dress today. Yikes.

Andrew Garfield & Monica Barbaro watched women’s tennis at Wimbledon

I spent the July 4th holiday weekend watching Wimbledon, which is pretty chaotic this year as far as top players losing early. I have no predictions for the finals, but I have my fingers crossed for Amanda Anisimova. Anyway, over the weekend, tons of celebrities came out for tennis. Two of those celebrities? Oscar-nominated actors Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro. They started dating earlier this year, just as Barbaro was getting tons of (well-earned) hype for playing Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown. It would not surprise me at all if they started up last year.

So, Garfield took his girlfriend to watch some tennis. They coordinated in white Ralph Lauren ensembles – RL is a major sponsor of Wimbledon, and RL often dresses celebrities for their Wimbledon appearances. Andrew and Monica watched the tennis on Centre Court, but they were not seated in the Royal Box. Did Andrew just buy regular tickets, I wonder. Or maybe the tickets were comped by Ralph Lauren. The Royal Box is invitation-only by the All-England club. Also: they had great taste in tennis matches! Centre Court’s matches yesterday were excellent – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v. Sonay Kartal (which Garfield and Barbaro were seated for), Sabalenka v. Mertens and Carlos Alcaraz v. Andrey Rublev. Great day to have Centre Court tickets.

Anyway, do you think Garfield and Barbaro are built to last? Garfield seems to only date women for about a year and then he moves on. But maybe Barbaro is the one! I doubt it, but they look nice together.
