I remember being so disappointed when I first heard Brett Goldstein speak in his normal voice. He did something to his natural speaking voice on Ted Lasso – he managed to consistently make his voice deeper and gruffer as he played Roy Kent, a character for which Goldstein won two Emmys. The real Brett Goldstein is more of an artsy writer/actor/comedian, and he actually comes across as very sweet and unassuming. Well, Goldstein will soon work with Jennifer Lopez on Office Romance, and people are trying to make “J.Lo Brett” into a thing. They were also recently spotted at a play!

Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein are spending some quality time together. The pair was spotted at Oh, Mary! to support Betty Gilpin, who stars in the upcoming Office Romance with them.

J.Lo and Brett took a photo with the cast alongside Meryl Streep and Martin Short, as one does, but before you read into things, they were standing on opposite sides of the group.

That said, a source just told the Daily Mail, “After a very tough start to 2025, Jennifer can’t wait to start a new project and it certainly helps that she will be working with a very handsome and smart star like Brett. He is one hot ticket and a real class act with talent to back it up—he not only acts but he writes amazing scripts. He is like the younger, better, British version of Ben. She thinks he is very cute.”

The source also somewhat hilariously claimed that “Ben knows who Brett is, he is plenty aware. Brett is younger and smarter than Ben. It will irk him for sure.”

While Goldstein isn’t married, he has been with Beth Rylance for years and I’m pretty sure they’re still together, although they keep it pretty quiet. Just FYI – I’m sure J.Lo loves flirting with a handsome British man, but I think this will just be a friendship and working relationship for them. I also hope that J.Lo isn’t constantly thinking about “so-and-so is like Ben/Ben will be so jealous!” Enough!!

Hannah Waddingham wore a custom Marchesa to the Emmys: lovely or overworked?

It was pretty crazy to watch Ted Lasso’s fall from awards-season grace. Lasso’s seasons one and two were heavily favored at all the awards shows, and most of the actors picked up big awards, from Golden Globes to Critics Choice to Emmys. Then Season 3 came and went and society collectively moved on. Lasso’s final season was shut out of last night’s Emmys. Deserved or not? Anyway, Hannah Waddingham turned up in this custom Marchesa, made to match her eyes. The top of it is actually great, beautifully done. The bottom half is pretty extra. Bonus: Colman Domingo in custom Louis Vuitton.

Brett Goldstein is ‘the only person in L.A. in the last 15 years who has body hair’

Brett Goldstein is a 42-year-old “overnight sensation.” Not really – he had been working steadily and toiling in British television and the comedy scene for decades before his world was flipped upside down with Ted Lasso. Goldstein was originally hired as one of the writers for the show, then he auditioned for Roy Kent and that was that. What’s great is that Goldstein isn’t whining about how successful he is now or anything like that – he’s used his newfound fame to strike while the iron is hot. He co-created Shrinking (also on AppleTV), he’s writing other projects and scripts and he’s doing a huge comedy show in Seattle. Goldstein covers the latest issue of Variety and he talks a lot about his life, all of his projects and how he’s not really Roy Kent (he is). Some highlights:

On his ‘sex symbol’ status: “How do I feel about becoming a sex symbol? I don’t know. You can say, ‘He blushes, looks confused, his head explodes.’”

The only hairy man in LA: “Yeah, [people like] the grumpy guy. Maybe it’s hairy men. I seem to be the only person in L.A. in the last 15 years who has body hair. Maybe that’s a thing. Like, ‘Whoa, what’s this? This is new!’”

He loves Roy Kent’s rage: “I really love playing Roy Kent. People always say, ‘You don’t seem angry in real life.’ And I’m always like, ‘But I’m f–king angry.’ And maybe there is a part of me that gets to process it through Roy.”

His early drama auditions: For years he pursued dramatic gigs, but “all I would ever get audition offers for was terrorists. I guess they see my headshot and go, ‘Well, he looks like a terrorist!’”

He’s training for a marathon right now: “I always feel like I’m making up for lost time that I didn’t enjoy as a youth. Because I was a very miserable kid. I was so miserable as a young person that now I enjoy things more. ‘Oh yeah, we should do fun stuff!’ I was a 6-year-old who sighed a lot. I was born this way. I had a dark way.”

He’s obsessed with Twin Peaks: “Here’s a secret about me that I don’t that I’ve told anyone. Here you go, here’s the scoop: People ask, ‘What do you do to relax?’ What always makes me happy is looking up ‘Twin Peaks’ fan theories. I love reading about ‘Twin Peaks.’ I love thinking about ‘Twin Peaks.’ It exists in my head now and forever.” (His thoughts on the recent revival? “Magnificent. Five stars. Incredible. How did it happen?”)

He wants more Ted Lasso: “I really do get that it’s a hard decision. Because it’s this wonderful thing, and these three seasons feel really perfect. Do you gamble? Do you leave the table? Or do you keep going because you have more?” What Goldstein does object to is the idea that “Ted Lasso” should end before it turns to sh-t. “I’m like, ‘No, it wouldn’t get sh-t. Because it’s a really good f–king group of people who care about it. Jason’s a f–king genius. No way we’d make something sh-t. Because why would we suddenly be sh-t? Like, ‘oh maybe it would go downhill.’ Why? Have we suddenly all gotten sh-t at our jobs?”

When I found out he does a podcast, I listened to a few episodes only to discover that he doesn’t talk like Roy Kent in real life and he’s also just kind of dorky. I say that in a nice way – he’s a film geek, a comedy geek and very chatty. He’s not the strong silent type in real life. That’s what this interview reminded me of – oh right, he loves reading Twin Peaks fan theories and he’s obsessed with the Muppets.

Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein is dating British comic Beth Rylance

Brett Goldstein plays the foul-mouthed, crotchety Roy Kent on Ted Lasso. Roy is a legendary player who dominated his sport. We love him because he has a heart of gold beneath his cross veneer. Plus, he’s smart enough to hook up with Keely who is several shades of amazing. Brett brings such talent and humanity to Roy. Not only is he an actor, obviously, he’s one of the main writers for Ted Lasso. He’s also brilliant at Twitter and adored by his co-stars. Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt, lost his mind Sunday when Brett won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. And Hannah Waddingham, who pays team owner Rebecca, is incapable of conducting an interview without mentioning Brett. Their interaction is such that many have speculated that maybe their relationship off-screen was more than just good friends. Alas, if you were routing for Goldingham, you’ll need to recalibrate. When Brett made his at the Emmy’s, he said he wanted to thank, “my mum, my dad, Tara, Matt, Zebbie and Bo. And Beth, I love you.” I thought those were all relations, but “Beth” is Beth Rylance, comedian and Brett’s girlfriend.

Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein may be the show’s heartthrob — but sadly for fans, he’s dating fellow British comedian Beth Rylance, Page Six can exclusively reveal.

Goldstein picked up the 2021 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Sunday for his role as gruff but lovable soccer player Roy Kent in the Apple TV show.

In his expletive-ridden acceptance speech, the 41-year-old actor told Rylance — no relation to famed actor Mark Rylance — he loved her, to which she responded on Instagram, “I wanna cry so bad, but I don’t think I can spare the moisture.”

Ever the comedian, Rylance also joked on Twitter about her Emmys Sunday versus her newly minted A-list boyfriend’s.

“Today is the day that my boyfriend goes to the Emmy’s [sic] as a Best Supporting Actor nominee and I am at home on my second load of laundry,” she wrote, then joking, “Just to confirm, my boyfriend is Kenan Thompson off of SNL.”

After Goldstein picked up his trophy, Rylance tweeted, “My godmother has just text [sic] me to say congratulations on my boyfriend’s Grammy award and this is why I love her.”

During the UK’s pandemic lockdown, Rylance frequently posted clips of Goldstein appearing in small comic skits online.

I admit I’ve not heard of Beth prior to this story. As the article mentioned, she is no relation to the actor Mark Rylance and she notes that fact in all of her bios, so clearly, it’s a question she fields often. Her latest work is on Laugh Lessons which is a collection of comedy shorts that showcases new comedians. Just going of her IG, she seems quite clever but also politically and socially active.

As of this writing, none of her social media accounts are verified, but that will probably change soon. Just as I was writing this, the last two IG posts she’d added during the Emmys were taken down, so clearly fans – and possible trolls – have already found her. I scrolled through her IG and found posts with Brett in August of last year. They made a series of shorts called Lone Island together. But I think this might be him as well, is it? And that’s from 2018. Anyway, they’ve been together for a while, they’re in love and now the world knows. Congratulations to both of them. I hope social media is kind to her.

BTW, you all know Brett has a podcast, right? Films To Be Buried With on Apple and he has a different celebrity guest each episode. It’s charming.
