Cate Blanchett wore conch shells to the Serpentine Gallery summer party

Here are some photos from the annual Serpentine Gallery event, which was held last night. Fun fact: Princess Diana wore her famous little-black-revenge-dress to the Serpentine Gallery reception in 1994. This year, Cate Blanchett – who is now living in England full-time and integrated within the upper echelon of British society – acted as co-chair of the Summer Party. Cate wore Dilara Findikoglu to the event… and I really dislike it! She loves oddball stuff like this though. Cate fully wore conch shells on her hips.

Alicia Vikander in custom Louis Vuitton – this is prettier from a distance and very bridesmaidy up close.

Kelly Osbourne looks like this now.

Lord Freddie Windsor and his wife Sophie Winkleman were there. He always looks like the pale horse ridden by Death.

Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer coordinated in red for some reason. Also very bridesmaidy.

Minnie Driver looks great from the neck up, but this has got to be one of the most unflattering dresses. It’s literally designed to be tent-shaped.

Jourdan Dunn was like the only one there who heard “summer party” and actually wore a cute, fun cocktail dress.

Princess Beatrice wore Emilia Wickstead to Ascot Day 4: surprisingly good?

Here are some photos from Day 4 of Royal Ascot. No joke, I’ve really enjoyed covering Ascot this year. Some Ascot years are boring from a fashion and gossip aspect, but this year’s Ascot had a lot of interesting storylines and hilariously bad fashion. It was especially well-attended this year, at least from the royals and royal-adjacents. Day 4 saw King Charles and Queen Camilla come out yet again (Camilla came for all four days), plus Princess Beatrice and Edo Mapelli Mozzi, Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife, plus Peter Phillips and his new girlfriend, Harriet Sperling. Peter and Harriet are Ascot-official now, which is probably a thing in some circles.

Fashion-wise, I am enjoying Beatrice’s green floral Emilia Wickstead. Royal women tend to wear very light colors to Ascot, although it’s not like a purely pastel color palette is enforced. Beatrice’s Wickstead really stood out and the silhouette was flattering on her too. Some people have suggested that her husband Edo is quite a dandy and he’s basically styling his wife. I don’t think so – I think Beatrice works with a stylist and she now has some kind of budget for designer clothes.

I also have to give a special mention to Camilla’s very absurd hat. Cam is truly in her Bonkers Hat Era these days. She wore those comically oversized hats around the D-Day anniversary events and she’s continued the “big hat” theme during Ascot. This Philip Treacy one might be my favorite? It just looks soft, I want to touch the feathers or whatever they are. Her dress was a snooze – Anna Valentine, and it’s not her color. Her brooch on Day 4 was the Jardine Star. That one was a favorite of QEII.

Sophie Winkleman: The Windsors are ‘uncomplaining’ in the face of undermining

Okay, I think I’ve got it: Lord Frederick Windsor is the son of Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Michael of Kent. Frederick is 43 years old and married to Sophie Winkleman, an actress. Frederick doesn’t have much to do with the royal family – he’s rarely invited to the family gatherings, although he and Sophie were in attendance at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. They were also invited to Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas event last week. When I saw photos of them, I just thought “that’s weird” and “the extended family really came out for Kate’s piano recital, huh.” Well, Sophie Winkleman has some kind of column for The Spectator, and I now believe that Frederick and Sophie’s invite to Kate’s event was some kind of quid pro quo. Sophie wrote this sh-t in the Spectator with a straight face:

This Christmas will be spent in London. I love a London Christmas. The streets are quiet, the parks are empty – it’s a bit like lockdown London but without the masks. We’ll see my parents on Christmas Day and some of my husband Freddie’s relations in various locations. I cherish my growing closeness to the senior members of the royal family who are so hardworking, uncomplaining and brave in the face of relentless and brutal media attention, criticism, lies, undermining and fictional TV programmes – and always so good to me that I’m honoured to know them.

[From The Spectator]

LOL, imagine selling your soul like this just because you were invited to Kate’s Let’s Mean-Girl Meghan By Wearing Burgundy event. “Fictional TV programmes,” my goodness. Maybe she was talking about The Crown?? I would agree, it was fictional for Peter Morgan to portray Charles as sympathetic and wronged, rather than as an abusive gaslighter who smeared Diana for years with Camilla’s help. Imagine Sophie getting on her high horse about the senior royals when Camilla was literally having lunch with Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson a week ago. “So hardworking, uncomplaining and brave” – sure, Jan.

Man, Prince William and Frederick look so much alike, it’s kind of creepy.
