Cate Blanchett wore conch shells to the Serpentine Gallery summer party

Here are some photos from the annual Serpentine Gallery event, which was held last night. Fun fact: Princess Diana wore her famous little-black-revenge-dress to the Serpentine Gallery reception in 1994. This year, Cate Blanchett – who is now living in England full-time and integrated within the upper echelon of British society – acted as co-chair of the Summer Party. Cate wore Dilara Findikoglu to the event… and I really dislike it! She loves oddball stuff like this though. Cate fully wore conch shells on her hips.

Alicia Vikander in custom Louis Vuitton – this is prettier from a distance and very bridesmaidy up close.

Kelly Osbourne looks like this now.

Lord Freddie Windsor and his wife Sophie Winkleman were there. He always looks like the pale horse ridden by Death.

Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer coordinated in red for some reason. Also very bridesmaidy.

Minnie Driver looks great from the neck up, but this has got to be one of the most unflattering dresses. It’s literally designed to be tent-shaped.

Jourdan Dunn was like the only one there who heard “summer party” and actually wore a cute, fun cocktail dress.

Zendaya wore a bubble skirt & a terrible blazer to the PFW Louis Vuitton show

I still say that it was a bad idea for Zendaya to sign on to a brand ambassadorship with Louis Vuitton. She is THE fashionista of the moment and every atelier wants to dress her. The only positive thing I’ll say is that her LV contract must be non-exclusive, because it does not seem like she has to wear LV exclusively on every red carpet. LV wants Zendaya’s fashion clout though, they want her at every show, they want her to bring all of the cameras and attention. So here we are – Zendaya attended the LV Spring show this week in Paris.

Vogue describes her look as “reminiscent of the suiting silhouettes that dominated the 1980s, notably in cult-classic films like Working Girl.” How dare you, Vogue!! This is not Working Girl-inspired in the least. It IS ‘80s inspired though, and I mean that in the most derogatory way possible. I’m not anti-bubble skirt, but the blazer is killing me.

Cate Blanchett also went to the LV show. Those pants are objectively hilarious. Cate’s bob is lethal these days.

Alicia Vikander is still a brand-ambassador for LV, I believe. The way they styled her should tell you everything you need to know about LV.

Chloe Moretz arguably got the best look. She’s giving Florence Pugh vibes here.

Natalie Portman wore a recreation of Dior’s 1949 ‘Junon’ dress in Cannes

Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore went to Cannes to premiere their new Todd Haynes film, May December. It’s apparently good? I love Todd Haynes anyway, so I’ll see it. For the big premiere, Portman wore this spectacular and iconic gown from Christian Dior. As in, the original “Junon” gown was actually designed by Christian Dior. The real dress from 1949 is in Dior’s archives, so they made Portman a beautiful replica with very few edits. It’s gorgeous, and it’s perfect on her, honestly. She also wore a snazzy Dior mini at the photocall.

Jennifer Lawrence is also stuck with Dior, and I guess she still has a contract with them? In any case, she wore this red Dior which… is kind of boring and I wish she could get out of this Dior rut. Obviously, Dior is perfectly capable of doing amazing looks for some people, just not J-Law.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton, with her husband Michael Fassbender. She’s an LV ambassador and, much like J-Law’s Dior contract, I don’t think LV gives Alicia their best pieces. This is a snooze.

Gigi Hadid in Zac Posen. Some people love Posen’s designs, but I find them overwrought and overworked. This might have looked better in a different color?

Marion Cotillard in Chanel. LOL, this look went viral over the weekend because the people in charge of Chanel really put Marion out there in the South of France in Daisy Dukes and a cardi. Tragique!!

Who had the most hideous Louis Vuitton look at the Academy Museum gala?

The Academy Museum gala was held this weekend and a shocking number of A-listers flew into LA just for this event. The Oscar season really has begun in earnest now. Some designers treated the gala like some kind of LA-version of the Met Gala. Nicolas Ghesquière was one of those designers – he grabbed all of his new Louis Vuitton looks fresh from the runway and he threw them on every woman he could find. To terrible results. Every person in this post is wearing Louis Vuitton and it’s a comedy of errors.

Let’s start with Alicia Vikander and Emma Stone, two of the biggest LV ambassadors out there. I’ve always hated Emma’s LV ambassadorship, it’s just not a good fit at all. You can make the argument that Alicia is somewhat of a better fit, but Ghesquière gives her some of the worst looks. Making Alicia and Emma pose together just highlights the breadth of bad design, the slouchy, shapeless fit, the overreliance on lace, the asinine ruffles, the f–king tragic leather work. My god. And Nicolas Ghesquière isn’t even a “bad designer.” He’s just doing really weird sh-t at LV, like it’s a contest to see what ugly sh-t women will wear.

Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas are also very ride-or-die for LV, and they’re both brand ambassadors too, I believe. I mean… I hope they’re getting paid for this.

Genuinely feel bad for Alana and Este Haim, they got the worst LV dresses.

Renate Reinsve (the star of The Worst Person in the World, one of my favorite 2021 movies) has been all about LV for a year. She wore LV to the Oscars, she shows up at the LV shows, and this is what they gave her. Ugh. It’s a purse-dress.

HoYeon Jung actually made her LV look a bit fresh and cute. Of course, she got one of the better minidresses, and she styled it with boots. The whole thing looks very ‘90s to me.

Behold, the only “just okay” Louis Vuitton look, on Queen Ava DuVernay. This would be perfect without those giant f–king buttons.

Alicia Vikander ‘doesn’t own much,’ her son ‘has much more stuff than me right now’

We barely talk about Alicia Vikander or her husband Michael Fassbender anymore. Which is on purpose, on their part. They went away. They moved to Portugal, they took time off from the movie-making grind, they started a family, and they rarely give interviews these days. I genuinely wonder if Fassbender is going to even act that much in the future, and whether it will fall to Alicia to be the “breadwinner” for the family. Alicia covers the latest issue of Harper’s Bizarre UK to promote Irma Vep, a series written and directed by Olivier Assayas. She plays an American film star named Mira who comes to Paris to star as Irma Vep in a remake of Les Vampires. It is, I suppose, self-referential and a movie-within-a-series and also. Assayas is basically redoing his own cult-favorite film. Alicia spoke to Bazaar UK about the pandemic, getting pregnant and a lot more – go here to read the full piece. Some highlights:

She’s in favor of on-set intimacy coaches: “The only thing that can’t be improvised is an intimate scene – you have to make choreography and stick to it. It’s the worst thing ever to do those scenes. I am very comfortable with my body and I’ve done quite a bit of nudity and sex scenes, but it’s never easy.” The coaches, she says, “should have existed at the beginning of my career. I’ve been in situations that were not fine, where I didn’t feel I was protected.” She describes one occasion on a set where “everyone was busy doing their own thing and, in the middle, you have an actor who sits there naked for a couple of hours. And someone is supposed to arrive with a robe, and they don’t. It comes afterwards – [the knowledge that] that was not right. I should have been looked after.”

Her female friendships: “I am really attracted to them. Very often, when I see them, I’m like, ‘Woah, she’s so impressive!’ With all my closest girlfriends, I had that first-love moment and I said to myself, ‘I need to be with that person.’ It’s another kind of love. I’ve never wanted to go to bed with a woman, but I’ve definitely had a spark and a magic and a rawness that is intense.”

She’s not sentimental when it comes to possessions. “I don’t own much,” she says. When she travels, she packs light, with one suitcase containing perhaps “two pairs of jeans and three sweaters”. Her son “has much more stuff than me right now”.

Where she spent the pandemic: Vikander and Fassbender lived together in their house in the Basque country in France, and to begin with, she recalls, “there was obviously quite a lot of fear. But I was very fortunate that all my loved ones were fine. And it was the first time I was at home for that long since I was 19. That was quite a blessing, in the end.”

Starting a family: “I tried to get pregnant for a while. So I had tough times during lockdown. I struggled for a while. You saw me now… And I kind of stopped and thought, ‘Am I going to talk about this?’ But I think it’s universal and so many women go through similar things. And it’s tough. I didn’t think I even wanted children, actually, until I was 30.” It was the experience of having a miscarriage that brought home to her how much she wanted to be a mother. “For a while I didn’t think that I could get pregnant.” But now she has her baby, she finds she has changed “in every way. It’s life. It’s so profound.”

The pandemic routine: The pandemic was “a chance for my husband and me to be at home, just cooking. We had a routine. We worked and we met up with five other families on Zoom and worked out Monday to Friday together.” Since the regulations in France at the time were draconian, involving carrying a passport every time you left the house, they stayed at home much of the time, enjoying their garden, reading plays, watching films and “falling in love with movies again”.

[From Harper’s Bazaar UK]

I feel like the “I don’t own much” thing is very Swedish? Alexander Skarsgard says that kind of sh-t in his interviews too, and it just feels like it’s pretty pervasive in Swedish culture, or maybe pervasive specifically in Swedish artist/actor communities, this whole “I don’t need to own anything” or “it’s showy and braggy to own nice things.” Like, it’s a bracelet not a PhD thesis on capitalism. I also wonder why they decided to ride out the pandemic in France, especially given that they bought a place in Portugal, right? I wonder if they were affected by all of the lockdowns and EU border issues? Hm. Anyway, Alicia, Michael and the Fassbaby sound like they’re doing fine.

The Louis Vuitton show was a mess from a fashion & protest standpoint

Celebrities attend the Louis Vuitton fashion show during Paris Fashion Week

Every time I look at photos from a Louis Vuitton show in Paris, I’m always upset by how many celebrities come out for LV and how bad all of those celebrities look in LV clothing. Ana de Armas arguably got “the best” look from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2022 collection, but it’s not like there was tons of competition. Look at that weird rope-knot on the dress!! LOL. Jennifer Connelly is a complete wreck in her ensemble. Phoebe Dynevor’s dress is a mess. Alicia Vikander – who has been with LV for years now – looks like she’s wearing a tennis skirt with a Members Only jacket.

Against this backdrop of fug fashion, protesters emerged. Well, by “emerged,” I mean “stormed the runway.”

It is a long-standing tradition that Louis Vuitton closes out Paris Fashion Week and, in turn, a long month of runway shows that starts in New York. But the grand finale of the spring 2022 collections was a little different this season. On Tuesday afternoon, a protester joined models on the catwalk, carrying a large fabric sign that read, “OVERCONSUMPTION = EXTINCTION.” Eventually, the protester was tackled by security guards and carried off.

Three climate activist groups were mentioned at the bottom of the protester’s sign and have publicly aligned themselves with the action: the French chapters of Extinction Rebellion, Youth for Climate, and Friends of the Earth. A group of protesters with signs also gathered outside the Louvre, where the show took place.

“La planète brûle mais la mode regarde ailleurs,” wrote Extinction Rebellion France in an Instagram post. This translates roughly to “The planet is burning, but fashion looks elsewhere.”

[From The Cut]

I would understand it a bit more if the protesters were specifically protesting “fast fashion,” the cheap mass-market fashion which is designed to be worn once or twice and then fall apart or thrown out. But while I find these LV designs hideous, they are not fast fashion. These pieces will be kept and worn or sold to vintage shops and reworn, etc. But yeah, overconsumption is an issue.

A protestor got into the line-up at #LouisVuitton with a message for — well, everyone. Later, security guards tackled her and carried her off. pic.twitter.com/gpCy3XrVRb

Alicia Vikander confirms that she & Michael Fassbender welcomed a Fassbaby

156465PCN_LightKKA025

In early August, paparazzi got some photos of Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender on the set of Alicia’s latest movie. Michael was seen holding a baby and there were some questions about whether it was a stunt baby, a prop baby, his own baby or perhaps just a baby of some friend or relation. Photographers ended up getting pics of both Michael and Alicia holding said baby, so it seemed pretty clear that it was their baby after all. Now Alicia has confirmed: she gave birth to a child and she’s very happy about it.

Alicia Vikander is opening up about becoming a mom. The fiercely private star, 32, quietly welcomed her first child with husband Michael Fassbender, 44, earlier this year and says she’s embracing her happy new life changes daily.

“I now have a whole new understanding of life in general,” the Swedish star tells PEOPLE in the latest issue. “That’s pretty beautiful, and obviously will give a lot to any of my work in the future.”

The actress is currently promoting her new emotional film, Blue Bayou, in which she plays an expectant mother opposite writer/director Justin Chon (Gook, Twilight).

Asked to sum up exactly how much life has changed having a baby, Vikander says she’s keeping the finer details to herself, but doing her best to live in the moment with each new milestone.

“No, I think I’ll wait with that one,” she says. “I’m enjoying finding it out in the moment right now, more than anything.”

[From People]

I’ll admit that I was surprised when we saw the photos last month. I was surprised that they “hid” a whole-ass pregnancy, although commenters told me that there were photos of Alicia last year (I guess) looking pretty pregnant. Alicia and Michael married in October 2017 after meeting on the set of The Light Between Oceans in 2014. I still haven’t seen that film! I LOATHED the book. We read the book for our now-defunct Celebitchy Book Club and that book was so bad, we ended the book club shortly after that. Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, the Fassbaby. From the paparazzi photos, the baby doesn’t have much hair, so you can’t really tell if the Fassbaby is a ginger like his or her dad. I hope the ginger genes are strong!
