Jennifer Connelly wore a great Louis Vuitton to the royal ‘Top Gun’ premiere

While the Duchess of Cambridge got the most attention at last night’s royal premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, I do think it’s worth discussing the other women at the premiere! Jennifer Connelly was brought into the sequel, and she plays Maverick’s love interest. Jennifer is a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton, so she’s almost always wearing LV on any given red carpet. It gets a bit boring, but LV gave her some interesting looks for the promotional tour. I actually loved her LV last night. I love the print (which I think is beading, actually), I love the simplicity of the black-and-white on her. And I love that she’s finally doing a real hairstyle and not the scraped-back look she usually does.

As for the men, Tom Cruise wore Brioni, the same brand which Brad Pitt reps. Interesting choice. Miles Teller went with a double-breasted Fendi tuxedo and I actually think he got the best tux/suit look. Miles’s wife Keleigh wore Zuhair Murad. I… love her look as well. I don’t know what’s going on here. Maybe the pandemic made me miss big red carpets or something, but I think everyone looked great?

Also: thanks for sending me this tweet, I completely agree with this theory. The Duchess of Cambridge is rarely photographed next to or in front of women who are thin fashionistas. While there are photos of Kate speaking to J-Con, the way those photos were staged for the bank of photographers made it almost impossible to get a photo of Kate and J-Con together, side-by-side.

So … I have a theory that KP and the rota reject photos where Kate is near women who are as attractive or as thin as she is. Notice the difference between the first picture (posted my KP) vs the typical photos posted by news outlets. Interesting how KP hides J Connelly 🤔 pic.twitter.com/4JAJP3omzp

Jennifer Connelly looked severe in Louis Vuitton at the Cannes ‘Top Gun’ premiere

In the South of France on Wednesday, the stars of Top Gun: Maverick descended upon the Croisette for a big, splashy, not-in-competition premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The premiere got an excellent turnout – so many of the biggest names come out for the first four or five days of Cannes, then the red carpets get a bit weaker. Tom Cruise was clearly in his element. He’s promoted films at Cannes before, but it’s been years (decades, really) since he’s done this kind of big Cannes premiere. The festival was super-happy to have him there too – the festival gave him a special surprise: an honorary Palme d’Or, their top prize. The audience gave him a five-minute standing ovation. I know, I know, but I believe it was probably all about his career, not his cult.

Jennifer Connelly and the rest of the Top Gun cast was there, and they walked the carpet en masse. It was kind of cool. Connelly wore Louis Vuitton. I honestly don’t hate the dress, but I don’t care for her styling. She and Rooney Mara are both obsessed with that severe, scraped-back hairstyle and minimal makeup with ghostly pale skin. What I wouldn’t give to see Rooney or J-Con do bouncy, fluffy hair on a carpet.

Some other notable ladies at the Top Gun premiere – here’s Elle Fanning in a pale, bespoke Armani. This is stunning on her, and I’m usually not a fan of this kind of thing. She’s so beautiful and such a fashion girl.

Adriana Lima is pregnant (which I forgot) and she wants us to see her bump. That’s why she wore this Balmain. It’s fine, good for her.

Eva Longoria wore Cristina Ottaviano. Did she get a new stylist or something? She’s looked a lot sleeker so far. It really works!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda. A mess, Aishwarya!!! I love this lady but this is a whole g–damn mess. She looks like she’s smuggling a flower shop into the premiere.

The Louis Vuitton show was a mess from a fashion & protest standpoint

Celebrities attend the Louis Vuitton fashion show during Paris Fashion Week

Every time I look at photos from a Louis Vuitton show in Paris, I’m always upset by how many celebrities come out for LV and how bad all of those celebrities look in LV clothing. Ana de Armas arguably got “the best” look from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2022 collection, but it’s not like there was tons of competition. Look at that weird rope-knot on the dress!! LOL. Jennifer Connelly is a complete wreck in her ensemble. Phoebe Dynevor’s dress is a mess. Alicia Vikander – who has been with LV for years now – looks like she’s wearing a tennis skirt with a Members Only jacket.

Against this backdrop of fug fashion, protesters emerged. Well, by “emerged,” I mean “stormed the runway.”

It is a long-standing tradition that Louis Vuitton closes out Paris Fashion Week and, in turn, a long month of runway shows that starts in New York. But the grand finale of the spring 2022 collections was a little different this season. On Tuesday afternoon, a protester joined models on the catwalk, carrying a large fabric sign that read, “OVERCONSUMPTION = EXTINCTION.” Eventually, the protester was tackled by security guards and carried off.

Three climate activist groups were mentioned at the bottom of the protester’s sign and have publicly aligned themselves with the action: the French chapters of Extinction Rebellion, Youth for Climate, and Friends of the Earth. A group of protesters with signs also gathered outside the Louvre, where the show took place.

“La planète brûle mais la mode regarde ailleurs,” wrote Extinction Rebellion France in an Instagram post. This translates roughly to “The planet is burning, but fashion looks elsewhere.”

[From The Cut]

I would understand it a bit more if the protesters were specifically protesting “fast fashion,” the cheap mass-market fashion which is designed to be worn once or twice and then fall apart or thrown out. But while I find these LV designs hideous, they are not fast fashion. These pieces will be kept and worn or sold to vintage shops and reworn, etc. But yeah, overconsumption is an issue.

A protestor got into the line-up at #LouisVuitton with a message for — well, everyone. Later, security guards tackled her and carried her off. pic.twitter.com/gpCy3XrVRb
